Lets not forget Dave Holland on those killer drums. I saw him with Judas Priest in 1988 and I never seen anybody beat on the drums so hard. The dude was a monster. RIP Mel and Dave.

Got to see Trapeze in '74 not knowing Hughes had already left the band.
After that show you could see that Mel Galley was Trapeze. So full of energy, so much talent

Recorded by Radio Trent by John Arnold and John E Moon, what a band !!! check out the other new release "Best of double" on Purple records which has another live concert from 1977 recorded by John E Moon, when Mel had rested his vocal..............specially for the recording

I saw this 1975 tour in Dallas. Mel Galley handled the vocals and lead guitar - amazing. I mean how do you play and sing Way Back to the Bone at the same time?

Do you know, for the first minute or two,i thought it was glenn singing......then realized it was mel,wow incredible job!! Glenn was the obvious front man and vocalist, but hey come on,mel gets real close in his phrasing and pitch, often think that rob Kendrick was not needed, they would have been a brilliant three piece!! 🤷‍♂️🥳👍?

The singer did a nice job of imitating Glenn. At first i thought it was Glenn until I remembered he was with Tommy Bolin and Coverdale in purple

Dave plays hell a lot better than in Priest , fuck theses fills ..
And it sounds Thrashy with the riff

He could easily play double bass on most of the 70's Priest stuff- Sinner, Beyond the realms of death and I am sure that he would also do Exciter...

      @Nissardpertugiu Місяць тому

@borutvolk7901 Yeah he did on Genocide, Diamond & Rust, White heat red hot in 1979-1980.
Considering what he did in Genocide, and Starbreaker live that wasn't much different of what the pattern was later "programmed ( or maybe played) in Hard As Iron, same groove, more or less the same speed, he could do stuff in Exciter.
We can add Rapid Fire or Jawbreaker, studio ok, but it was played live in studio in thoses times, and more importantly a decade earlier he did the intro studio as better live of the song Keepin'Time opening the 3rd Trapeze album, in 1972.
No mention the metallic performances of Jury, Your Love is Alright where he played double bass.
After his departure Dave played a lot of double bass on the Allan Atkins record " Victim Of Changes".

@@Nissardpertugiu I guess he played as he was ordered to play with Priest. I guess Glenn Tipton had nailed his left foot to the hi-hat pedal...

@borutvolk7901 Yeah, the dirty thing is Dave Left because of Glenn behave on the 1988 tour...once he left on promotional stuff till this day, as strangely Rob that " He couldn't do the double bass " ..bullshit.
      I don't understand.
Even Rob in his book said that Dave played simple ...if he was that fan of Trapeze he knew that Dave did play more than simple.
And even on Priest, Screaming For Vengeance for exemple, isn t simple on all levels, the dynamics are so trappy, the articulation on the drums too.
Rob saying that the ram it down album was done with a drum machine because of Dave 's limitations , but you know surely that Dave played Ram It Down twice as hardcore on the tour, so...what limitations ? Its even more fierce that most of what is on Painkiller, for thoses who talk about "speed".
But Painkiller was fast, but its the compression with the kick drums that give that feel, but Metal Meltdown is not faster than Exciter on Unleashed or Rapid fire.
Certainly not faster than Ram It Down live..
Dave was from the first old guard, he was swing, heavy, progressive and one of the best funk drummers you'll hear ( Play Me Out 's Glenn Hughes 1977), but i feel now that in the developping elements he participated, Dave was very Punky too, Hardcore meets Metal, in the old stuff..
Its urgent, its raw, but it still kind grooves beign very fast, agressive, direct.
Rapid Fire,Steeler, Riding on the wind, SFV, Freewheel burning...Ram It down..
Also on 1988, live in Victim Of Changes and Sinner.. The Sentinel ( not a simple song either in structure), you feel a fluidity in fills and stuff you didn't hear much except on few stuff since Trapeze, its more intricate but terribly efficient.
