I love how sinister the Farfisa sounds when you return to the main riff. Incredible playing by the way!

Thank you! And yes, I think the Farfisa sounds more heavier and darker than a Vox Continental.

This is fun. The organist does a nice job giving the solo the Farfisa treatment. On the original 17 minute studio recording, Organist, Doug Ingle and the Iron Butterfly band do a wonderful job of transporting the listener through other-worldly lands, in their performance of In A Gadda Da Vida!

I haven't heard this version in over 40 years it brings back fond memories of when I and my brother would be at a band practice. So happy to find it.

My favourite part of the whole song as well, and it sounds great on a Farfisa.

Probably my favorite part of this song, that and the funky bass lick they throw down before going back into the head.

Beautiful. Sounds like something that would fit in an obscure 70s European gothic horror flick.

You've done such a good job on this. Want to add a comment on those really dissonant chords after the Dsus to D leading down to the A chord before the counterpoint. They are rootless V13b9 chords voiced like this:
G (which is removed) F-B-E-G#....etc. It will take two hands. An easier way to think of it is this is "E/F bass". Do this: Left hand-F Right hand-B-E-G# and move them around chromatically until you get down to the A chord. It is a very cool sound!
    .
I do a lot of jazz playing and it's common in that, but not in this use. If you put that G in the root, you will hear that the chord is not all that "outside", but without that root, LOL....Look out!
I think it's ingenious what Doug did and you did great work. I don't have the solo down yet, but I did want to tell you those chords. Something about the combo organ even makes it sound even more eerie, LOL.

I was looking for a tutorial you had up not too long ago on this piece that had the beginning, and a GREAT version of the solo section in it as well. I believe it was titled, "part two". I would watch it for inspiration once in a while and that "eargasmic" feeling that the solo has never failed to produce in me. If you know what I mean, like an overwhelming rush of endorphins that push through your heart and soul all at once as the music makes its connection. An incomparable ride as it applies to this piece, or any piece of music you find yourself so attuned to. The video, as I remember, was shot at an overhead angle that at least gave me the hope that by repeatedly studying it, I too might be able to find it under my hands.

Very good tutorial. Seems like the organ is pitched down about a 1/2 step (not quite), though.
I remember reading the liner notes on the LP and it said Doug Ingle's father was a church organist.
Would have been nice to hear a pipe organ in the original, but that Farfisa is a haunting sound in and of itself. Amazing following the history of psychedelic to prog and how Iron Butterfly and Vanilla Fudge were influential on later bands like Yes and some others. As I understand, Yes bought their first good PA system from Iron Butterfly.

    • @LDB3Music

Just saw your comment about the organ being pitched down. I guess I was so excited to watch the video, I didn't read all of that.

@@LDB3Music Yes that is indeed correct. My first video was of Vida the full length version. Has a blue tint to the footage. That was the only one I had in standard. I tune my instruments down about a half step, so E flat I guess. I'm not good at knowing those things. I just like to play and mess with tunings. The rest are all down. I have a few videos of this song as some have a corrected intro. Some are on the Vox Jaguar and some are on a Vox Continental plugin which also has more of a pipe organ sound as you mentioned.

How close does your organ sound compared to Mr Ingles' Vox Continental? The Vox is a draw bar organ? Great keyboarding!

      @theironbutterflychannel9400  Рік тому +2

Yes that is correct a Vox is a draw bar organ where as this is a rocker tab organ. And it's no where close to Doug's organ sound due to it being a Farfisa and thanks

No if it were one, it would have long metal bars with a plastic tip, usually black or white like a Hammond or and Italian Vox Continental. Its just a combo organ with rocker tabs, which is those switches you see above the keys

Woah, how long did that take to learn? I’ve read that you learned this by ear, which is amazing. I learned the entire drum part by ear 😀 It took me a few days, but I got there 👍🏻

Yes it took me many years to learn this by ear and even to this day I still think it's not as great but it was not easy to learn. I feel like drums are easier to learn by ear than organ.

The early Pink Floyd sound is pretty cool. I know Richard Wright used the Compact Duo which I think sounds better than the single manual Farfisa. At the time this was the only organ I had so I just went with it instead
