Love the fact that you even show the bits where you get it wrong and don't even try to apologise for your errors. It makes the whole thing more real - I don't have to give myself a hard time when I mess up.
Never stop integrating your promos into your vids in funny and awesome ways. I am not big on watching advertisements, but you always seem to make it fun.
Well, actually, it *IS* possible. But, it would take a lot of time and patience. Basically be using hand whittling tools to carve it out, along with a very long piece of wood, assuming you'd like a decent sized chain...
cyberstormin Heck, you wouldn't need it to be TOO long if you were really good with your hands; you could get 2-3 times the length of a board if you carve it in an S shape. Side note, I actually tried to do this (minus the S shape) with a dremel and a whittling knife and it worked pretty well. It didn't look pretty but, hey, it worked!
That was nice of you to use Porter Cable in your video. It was nice of PC to give you the router. It's good to see people that believe in the 2 way street philosophy. Those of us that are generation X and older were taught that growing up.
I actually really liked the way he did the product placement. not too subtle, but not super intrusive. I usually don't like product placement, but I liked this one :)
Not only instructional (and very good at that!), it was funny without being obnoxious. Well done Steve, very well done! And kudos to Porter Cable, I have a lot of their tools and really love them.
Great video!! I bought the same router 6 years ago and only used it once. Lol. I think I need to use it more. Lol. But I knew this old man that lived next door to my grandfather growing up and he sat out under his shade tree in a swing every day and carved things out of wood. I remember this 8 ft long wooden chain he made from a 8ft 2x2 and hand carved a perfect chain link with out breaking them and gluing them together. It was AMAZING!! I've still yet to see anyone do it to this day. 👍🏼
Great video thanks! And I have to say I bought a really nice Porter Cable Router just because of this video....and I'm very happy with it so thanks again!
Ohh, by the way, routers are really cool! My brother-in-law and I made a arcade cabinet last summer. He's a carpenter and he brought along his router. We made the first side of the arcade cabinet and the second one was just a rough cutout then ran around with the router. It was carbon copy. I was amazed.
love the product placement. I made a wooden chain a few years back and i carved the whole thing. im not really bitching i just wish i knew a faster way. Love your videos. keep em comin
That was a good video plug for porter cable. It was very creative. I was reading some of the comments that were left for you and I just wanted to say the hell with the haters. You are creative and very good at what you do.
This is so cool! Really beautiful project, and honestly, the humor of the "product placement" was just hilarious!!! Very entertaining video. Now I'm gonna watch it again!
Your work was solid man, thanks for the upload. Your product placement though was hilarious! At some point and for the rest of the video, I was constantly looking forward to the next bit! Thanks for the laughs!
You could make a badass heavy duty (looking) chain for your bike lock, and paint it gunmetal gray. It would look impossible to break, and be 1/4 the weight of a steel chain. It would work great. Until somebody rattled it and realized it was wood.
I made a chain from a single piece when I was a kid after seeing LONG wooden chains on display at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. Start with a square piece of wood and cut out the corners to give it a cross-shaped cross section. Then just carve away until you cut the links apart. Easy.
Uhm. Think of how small that router's bit has to be, as well as the jigs. I'd also like to think the pieces for chainmail would be so small that they would possibly shatter in your fingertips. Still, a cool idea though.
The quality of your older videos makes you look older. Kind of freaks me out when I click on a random older video and suddenly you look 8 years older, but it was 7 years ago....
согласен с предыдущим комментатором "нас опять ------- " Я делал такие цепочки учась в ремесленном училище из цельного бруска длинной около метра . Нужно просто знать одну хитрость и тогда делай хоть километр
I was introduced to Porter Cable in Jr. High school, but always considered the Porter Cable to expensive but now at 50 years old I have a four piece set of 18 v cordless Porter Cable they are great and first rate and not that expensive they pulled good service throughout rehabbing my mothers mother-in-laws house.
This would work if you take a big piece of wood, and cut it into a cross shaped prism (which probably isnt the propper word to describe that body), then you would have to cut out the rough shape of each chain link, every 2nd piece turned 90°. The Links would have to be closer together to give you enough space to seperate them without messing up. It should be possible to do this with a router, or a jigsaw and a ton of patience... I think ill give that a try some day ;-)
maria stem That is just a redirect to Ted's Woodworking Plan scam. I repeat for anyone looking here, that is a scam and you will get crappy stolen plans and a deal to resell them to "make your own money". Complete bullcrap, please don't fall for it.
nearly 2 million people watched this video and all porter cable paid was a single on of their tools. Probably the cheapest advertising they've ever had.
My mental gymnastics as I followed along your "jig making" video were enormous ! "How is he gonna get to a chain with this ? " Then, the ol' pocketknife trick showed up ! How quaint !! Bummer !
You, sir, have a wonderful sense of humor!
Hmmm I was waiting to learn how to do this without breaking the links !!
i agree once he broke and glued them the magic was dead for me
well step one. devide by zero, break spacetime. defeat laws of physics, and then make chains haha
Well, actually, it *IS* possible. But, it would take a lot of time and patience. Basically be using hand whittling tools to carve it out, along with a very long piece of wood, assuming you'd like a decent sized chain...

Your product replacement was just hilarious 😂
As someone who's only seen newer WWMM videos, this played like a "before they were famous" find. Loved it.
That was hilarious! Great sense of humor, and cool project
Totally agree with Martin
That was nice of you to use Porter Cable in your video. It was nice of PC to give you the router. It's good to see people that believe in the 2 way street philosophy. Those of us that are generation X and older were taught that growing up.
The product placement had me laughing so much.
You know you’ve stumbled upon an old video when there is no micro jig intro.
It disappoints me
Or a new one as he doesn't represent them anymore.
He looks older in this one than the new ones lol
Or when hes bashing ads as if youtube isnt about to slap ads on all his videos in the near future
I don' know if I am the only one but, I found this video very funny and entertaining.
Definitely yes. Excellent instructions presented in a fun way. YAY!
Telepathic Mage I did also! Lol
_QUITE_ entertaining :)
He is an excellent teacher, who enjoys his woodwork shop. He is an artist.
I actually really liked the way he did the product placement. not too subtle, but not super intrusive. I usually don't like product placement, but I liked this one :)
your product placement is actualy really funny
capitra
+Anthony Volpe Particularly the manicure.
the video description and the subtle product placement earned you a like.
You are AWESOME man! You are not afraid to show your mistakes. It makes me feel not alone :)
Not only instructional (and very good at that!), it was funny without being obnoxious. Well done Steve, very well done! And kudos to Porter Cable, I have a lot of their tools and really love them.
You're awesome! My wife and I will now slowly but steadily whatch each and every video of yours! Keep up the great work! Cheers!
Well?
Great video!! I bought the same router 6 years ago and only used it once. Lol. I think I need to use it more. Lol.

I don't know why, but I feel like purchasing some *Porter Cable* products. Weird.
I had to watch it twice, the first time I was only looking for the product placement :-)
Laught a lot! Thanks!
That product placement was hilarious! I subscribed, this was informative a humorous.
Steve, you are awesome. I have watched about 300 wood working videos and you are the only one i subscribed to.
Love the un-obtrusive product placement.
I'll have to do that with some of my fishing products.
I'm just encouraged to see the art of subtlety isn't lost. Great video. Thanks!
Cool chain. So who made your router?
I think it's a Dewalt.
Great fun watching your video. Must admit I'm not a woodworker, but right now I'm regretting it! Long life to you and your toolkit!
From France.
I've never seen carpenter with full set of fingers before!
Lol! You should hang out with safer carpenters.
Steve, love you man. Really happy that Porter Cable have helped you out.
This dude cracks me up, in addition he knows how to edit video. Unlike a lot of youtube videos.
Great video thanks! And I have to say I bought a really nice Porter Cable Router just because of this video....and I'm very happy with it so thanks again!
i thought its made by sculpting in ONE piece of wood, i didnt expect a glue
I hate to admit it but so did I LOL
***** So did I and I don't hate to admit it.
+joanna Wood Best *wod* plans? Sounds legit.
Me too...I also think it's possible to put together the links just with only one cut, and use hot water to distort it.
+waterfall792 so did I
Thanks Porter Cable for sponsoring this... MICROJIG, maker of the Gripper work safer work Smarter
Must buy Porter Cable
Was going through some of your old videos and I could not stop laughing at your "product placement." Congrats on the quarter million followers!
The whole point (novelty) of wooden chains is that they are CARVED from the SOLID.... a very painstaking and skillful task.
Ohh, by the way, routers are really cool! My brother-in-law and I made a arcade cabinet last summer. He's a carpenter and he brought along his router. We made the first side of the arcade cabinet and the second one was just a rough cutout then ran around with the router. It was carbon copy. I was amazed.
id say at 4+ million views that porter cable made a good decision..
Steve Ramseys' vids are the best!! just love the sense of humour!!
Awesome work! You know what else is awesome? Porter Cable© is.
love the product placement. I made a wooden chain a few years back and i carved the whole thing. im not really bitching i just wish i knew a faster way. Love your videos. keep em comin
hilarious and a very good tutorial
Oh Steve I've been watching your videos for a little while now and I live your humor
Thanks Council
Deaf Valera Pozhitkov
I just recently bought my first router which is a Porter Cable. I love it . Everything gets a round over edge now.
advertising for the next generation.
I love this type of advertising, funny, and informative :D
Love the tongue-in-cheek product placement. That's how it should be done IMHO.
cool, can i use my wifi router for making this? :D
Lol
If you're creative, anything's possible
yeah! a servlet chain!!
iuno777 You can use your WiFi router to make an internet chain.
You can use that to make chain mail
That was a good video plug for porter cable. It was very creative. I was reading some of the comments that were left for you and I just wanted to say the hell with the haters. You are creative and very good at what you do.
Will this work with a modem?
This is so cool! Really beautiful project, and honestly, the humor of the "product placement" was just hilarious!!! Very entertaining video. Now I'm gonna watch it again!
you can carve a chain out of wood with a few whittling knives and about 4-6 hours per chain link.
Thank you my kids and I found this vary educational.
best commercial oops no best product placement video EVER
yeah it made me laugh >u
Another great video. Very cool to watch. Don't let the haters get you down. Keep the cool projects coming!
Lol yah the advert was really discrete
Real subtle product placement there Steve! barely noticed it!
Keep the great projects coming!
i wish i knew what tool company he means
i think is was Black&Decker, Bosch or Makita but don't know ;-)
Yeah it was subtle...if you blink you missed it.
And in 2017, your thoughts on commercials, product reviews, and product placement are spot on, six years later.
where'd you get that router?
Porter Cable
+Mugiwara Ricky trololololololo
mastercraft i think
you need help...
Love your creative and humors product placement.
We used to do this with a pocket knife and a few wood files using real wood, all one piece, not plywood... no glue required.
Prove it
First video I've seen from you... Impressive teaching and very funy! Congrats
So, uh, what brand router did you use?
must have been Craftsman.
Or DeWalt, I don't know
AxialSCXten CrawlCA no no, definitely ryobi
Best non-commercial ever. Subbed.
I loved the "subtle" product placements for, er, who was it again?
this was the best video with product placement i have ever watched! it actually made me laugh instead of annoyed ... good job Steve! :D
Wish you would have made the product placement more visible, still can't figure out which company sent you the tool.
FrostyFooy porter cable - he gives broll at around 3 minutes
+ there is a print at the end
***** You know I was joking right.
FrostyFooy pretty difficult not to
Your work was solid man, thanks for the upload.
Your product placement though was hilarious! At some point and for the rest of the video, I was constantly looking forward to the next bit!
Thanks for the laughs!
Kind of a letdown at the end when it came down to having to glue the links into one another.
Great way to say thank you to the that router company. Good video.
That seemed like a good router. What brand was that?
I looove the humor and product placement haha. Great videos.
I was expecting a Porter Cable© logo on your forehead the first time you turned the camera around
Love the subtle product placement....great videos, ive got a few more projects on the list now..
nice way of doing product placement, made me laugh. keep up the good work!
love your channel Steve, Thank you
You could make a badass heavy duty (looking) chain for your bike lock, and paint it gunmetal gray. It would look impossible to break, and be 1/4 the weight of a steel chain. It would work great. Until somebody rattled it and realized it was wood.
Amen brother. Thanks for the video. Great project. I plan on making this some time this week.
lol what a lovely person
Well done!!.... Wooden chain looks good for some kind of children toys!....cheers!!.
What works better, Dlink or Linksys?
Belkin is even better, but DONT GET A ROUTER FROM PORTERCABLE!!
They dont send any signal
I made a chain from a single piece when I was a kid after seeing LONG wooden chains on display at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. Start with a square piece of wood and cut out the corners to give it a cross-shaped cross section. Then just carve away until you cut the links apart. Easy.
Now try and make a full chain from 1 pic of wood without cheating!
+Migwell Bloggs Here's one: watch?v=SPVATwyUTz0 but not using a router!
I would absolutely LOVE to see wooden chain mail.
Uhm. Think of how small that router's bit has to be, as well as the jigs. I'd also like to think the pieces for chainmail would be so small that they would possibly shatter in your fingertips. Still, a cool idea though.

Man, you are hilarious, Steve. I chuckled through the entire video. Keep up the good work.
Hey, what router brand did you use? I couldn't see it in the video..
XD
I think it is a Cisco ...
Martin Nah I'm pretty sure it was a craftsman
*****
white van :D
Crisco
Exactly what i was looking for.
Plus, i love that rubber band clamping. 👍👍👍

Does anybody know what is the company that makes that router?😂 Still don't know!😂
BeGamerSl I think it was a Dewalt.
Bosh...
No im pretty sure it was makita
Bosch?
This comment made my day
A very interesting video. Wood is an incredible beautiful and versatile material. Nice work.
Make it from one peace, without gluing links?

Don't forget to film it ;-)
The old Welsh lovespoon makers used to do this trick on a regular basis (single piece, no glue, no power tools).

that right there. that is good advertisement. not only us wood enthusiasts should learn from this, but the guys on TV as well.
Цепь из дерева ценна, когда она изготовлена из цельного куска древесины без помощи клея.
Да вот я до конца ждал, когда же он покажет секрет изготовления цельной цепи.
Andrew Potapenkoff если только вырезать всю цепь из цельного куска дерева, что проблематично.
***** То ли дело, вот это цепь так цепь!
