Regarding the Pickguard and protective plastic, when using Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate), always test first on scrap material or an inconspicuous location so you don't have any unpleasant surprises.

You should do an episode on the amazing John Cippolina SG and his even more amazing amp setup, both of which are unlike anything else you've ever seen. I think the whole rig is at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. In the picture you can see something called a Modulux, which I'd like to know if it's one of those old oil can vibe units. I'm pretty sure he had more than one of those custom SG's, and I don't think Gibson modified them, but I'm not sure. You should call on your Gibson connections to get the inside info, I'll bet the old timers around there know something.

Borh Angus and Malcolm have/had very small hands. Mal would play a lot of open chords because of this. Their combo Gibson/Gretsch sound is just amazing, but so are they as players. AC/DC will be touring this year, but they have announced a new bass player (Cliff Williams is retired. He only came out of retirement for "Power Up" and that festival), the drummer that played with them at Powertrip, Matt Laug (solid drummer), Stevie Young, plus Brian and Angus. At this point, as much as I've absolutely LOVED AC/DC as a 9 year old in 1980, there's just too many replacement members for my taste. I won't go, but to those who do, have a great time!

The entire (signature) ryrhm section replaced...no Mal (RIP) no Phil no Cliff that unfortunately feels like a sell out for me.
....But I suspect it doesn't just have to do with money, because they really have to have more than enough of it. that means they (Angus & Brian) probably also do it for fun on rock n roll...respect for it!

THANK YOU for doing another SG, for doing another Angus Young SG!!!
My favorite Angus sig is the '09/'10 custom shop run. The bevels are terrible, but they are correct for his original, and add to the unique look.
Then this one, for the inlays, but I wish it had the vibrola and cartoon.
Then I'd pick the '00-'09 for the headstock demon Angus drawing and the Angus engraved vibrola plate
The perfect version would be the Custom Shop version with the cartoon on the headstock and the engraved vibrola. A guy can dream.
I'd love for there to be a Gibson USA level Angus sig reissue (hopefully with darker boards than this one, yuck)
but if I had my pick, I think they should collaborate with him on making one inspired by two of his noteworthy SG's; his JayDee SG (which also had the lightning bolt inlays) and his white pickguard SG Custom.
Again, a man can dream. I'll even do the photoshop work for him ;)
    P.S. Thunderstruck isn't tapped, it's picked, check it ;)

Live Angus is known more to play the half pickguard over the years . But his Nr1 is the batwing guard that’s retired due to condition, is the one he used and still use for most of the studio work.
They should bring back an Angus sig. I would love the problem child sg, in ebony would be cool. Angus done a lot of tours with a ebony sg, half guard.

  • @there_is_nothing_here

It's definitely based on one of his touring guitars. And that early custom shop was based on one of his black 61 LP that I think can be seen in the live at Donnington

you’re absolutely right - I also think of the bat-guard when I think of Angus. Nevertheless I bought myself a SG with the small pickguard as my second guitar in 1988. But it’s special in it’s own way. For example it has the quite rare side-jack which lasted only a couple of years.

The original "Problem Child" SG was my dream guitar for years after I started playing. One of the local guitar stores had one and I would go in regularly and just admire it in full Wayne's World fashion. I never knew they made this other model though, so it was cool to see and hear it in action. I have to agree that I prefer the 68 style SG over the 61. It's the bat wing pickguard for me

Just learn the 1st 12 opening notes...do it twice. Be sure to put the vibrato in too. Now you're a guitar god.
BTW @6:20 There's my guit. Not that exact one, but the one right after that....the one with the brass switch tip. The dude who it was intended for skipped out on paying Trog, and I jumped. That was just a little over 3 years ago.
I want to thank that dude whoever he is. And tell him that is the most awesome guitar there ever was, you shoulda paid. And yeah, it ain't for sale.

    Salutations Austin!
Besides Tony Iommi and Angus Young, there were many other artists that played Gibson SG’s back in the mid to late sixties, including Robby Kreiger from the Doors 🚪, Carlos Santana, and Neil Young, as but also both bands that played for Janis Joplin also primarily played Gibson SG guitars. Frank Zappa was also well known for playing SG’s, along with Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom from Blue Oyster Cult. There are actually too many guitarists to mention here that popularised the Gibson SG, however, the majority of them were popular back in the sixties and seventies and if you watch videos from back then you would see how ubiquitous the SG was back then. Even early Judas Priest videos show Glen Tipton playing an SG, and I have personally seen him playing an SG.
To the best of my knowledge, only Tony Iommi, Angus Young, and possibly Frank Zappa are the only ones who have Gibson Signature SG’s today, but that may eventually be subject to change.
Thank you for sharing your experience with this instrument and posting this video!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!

Please don’t suggest using super glue to glue back down the plastic pick guard cover. That will permanently damage the pick guard and definitely not worth it for something that was intended to be removed and thrown away. Don’t suggest super glue because some dummy might actually do it!
