I bought the Rane one soon as it came out. Yeah i was disappointed at first it only had serato FX. Since I was so used to the pioneer djs 9 effects. But once I started using the Rane one FX. They sound good to me when I'm mixing. I can combined 3 FX at once. That now I'm more creative using my effects when mixing. I love my Rane one controller, I've being doing lots of gigs with this controller. I sold my pioneer mixer and replaced it with the Rane 70 to have the whole set with my Rane 12s.
Thank you CT, well said! Master the gear you have in front of you! Stop jump shipping to the latest and greatest gear thinking that it'll help you boost to another level. Unless you really feel you have plateau'd on the gear you have, then consider what you need next. I think DJ gear has become hyped up like sneakers now a days. People want the latest hyped piece of hardware when they are barely using the features they have on their current set up.
The same reason why I by DJ equipment is the same reason why I upgrade my computers it’s just part of the game if it wasn’t that I would still just be using 1200 techniques
@@djstuc I keep it all I still have my 1200s that I purchased in 1988 still have every piece of equipment that has value I even have a realistic mixer from RadioShack
Thanks for the comparison review, you went over a lot of points that are not discussed in other videos. I come from a turntable background, and was using my Technics at mobile gigs until until I received the Rane One in Jan 2021. I've used the Rane One primarily out and about and will Here are my Pros for the Rane One: 1) Turntable Feel with the portability of vinyl control. The felt slipmat is super thin and backspinning is very light in resistance. My DVS records + Butter Rugs never felt this smooth. It is very fun to use 2) Easy to do Instant doubles. Double tap load button and you're good to go 3) Crossfader is butter 4) reliable as fuck!! I brought my turntables for a wedding gig, only for my DVS Phase to not work correctly (again). Had my Rane One on hand (for backup) and it worked flawlessly. 5) sound quality is amazing CONS: 1) OLDER COMPUTERS - This one isn't spoken about because I assume UA-camr Channels have the latest and greatest computer hardware for their gigs. My Pioneer SB2 allowed me to set my Serato Buffer Delay at 1MS with no issues. Even using actual turntables with Vinyl DVS (Numark Scratch Mixer + Ortofon Scratch Concorde Needles), I could also have my Buffer Delay at 1MS and program runs great. When I connect my Rane One and change to 1MS, my system begins to slow down and clip the audio. I have to change my Buffer Delay to mid/default at 5 MS. It is something to work with, but I don't like having to increase the delay to use newer hardware. I forgot what it is like when I use DVS + Phase (I've had sooooo many issues with Phase). I truly wonder what the Rev 7 will be like with my laptop 2) Not a fan of Cue buttons on mixers, that should be left for 4 channel devices 3) Crossfader curve adjust is on front, making it easy to accidentally change from sharp to smooth mid performance 4) software fx are unsatisfying and not fun to use. I'm not totally against Serato FX..They were fun to use on my Pioneer SB2, and pretty great on my Numark Scratch DVS mixer. Something about the Rane One, my FX always feel "off" Sometimes I'm using DVS or Rane One and I need to quickly rewind, and I find myself holding shift and backspinning on the vinyl but it rewinds normally and not fast. I'm glad they added this to the Rev 7. I've also always wanted a Pioneer DJM S Mixer and I've always loved the Jog Displays on the 1000 (not the SRT). DJM S Type mixer + Cue crossfader + Hardware FX + Potentially better vinyl/mixer - Durability issues - Rev7 Price = I preordered my Rev7. Plan to test out both extensively and return/sell the one I don't like
Finally a balanced comparison! I wonder how many of the people who posted negative opinions against either of these machines have actually used both of them in order to make the comparison in the first place! Given the rev 7 is not even officially available yet I’m guessing very few. Why can’t they both be great? Let’s all let live and love.
As I'm just a hobbyist the Rane One was the better choice for me. The extra features for my use case wasn't enough to justify the extra $300. I can't wait til it arrives.
Excellent comparison video.. I’ve watch many Rev7 videos over the past couple of weeks and have concluded that staying with the Rane One isn’t a bad choice.. for me it would feel like a lateral move because the only consideration I have is the mixer layout and on board fx on the Rev7.. Those are the only things missing on the Rane and since I just purchased it (40 days ago) it doesn’t make sense to spend $1899 on such a similar controller.. so even though the Rev7 has more features I’m sticking with the Rane One (for now) ✌🏾❤️✊🏾
I kept my rane one after using the rev 7 for a few of weeks. The rane one ticked more boxes for me. I was able to modify the controller to add whatever I felt was missing (innofader and so on). Great video. Keep up the great work CT.
From someone who bought a rane one that came with a pro x case for only $1300, there’s no way I’m buying the rev 7 even if it probably performs better. Like you said, no buyers remorse
I remember saying on a Serato group chat Pioneer could have left the pitch slider the original way and got negative feedback. Glad someone understood the advantage of that. I still use the Rane 72 mixer because I love the fact it's built like a tank. If I were ever to buy any Pioneer gear I would put a Twelve inch skin on it right out of the box for protection.
Terry , First of all , Thank you for adressing my comment! (5:43) , its really helpfull to know what we are dealing with ... would really love to see a comparison between NS7 ii and the pio rev 7 ... i had my controller for like 7 years now , they were way ahead of their time ... the original akai MPC pads still feel like new , built like a tank , 4 channels , and many functions , i still find hard to belive that the pio rev 7 is better than my ns7 II ... ( many users like me would think about a change after 7 years of using the same gear... but i still think that the NS7 II is the king of motorised platter Dj controllers .) I hope u see this comment . Love ur videos , keep up the good work. would love to hear your opinion on this comparation.
Thorough, glad you revised brother, awesome work! I have the Rane One but I'm a fanboy both brands. Still have my cdj's, rane 56 and 12's as the home set up for fun.
Alright Cleveland watched many but BEEN WAITING for this comparison. Update just watched it, I think it was fair. I purchased the Rane One a week before Rev 7 came out and thought oh no! But after gathering myself and letting the hype train leave the station to your point I got what I need. I’m not a full time mobile DJ and have always been happy with Rane. I purchased a Rane 70 just last year based on your review. Guys like 69 beatz and Eskei need and want a controller like this. For those of us that use echo time to time and loop Rane one is perfect.
I am old school as you can get, I still rock my Numark mixer with 2 crossfaders, 4 channels and 8 band EQ. Touch a Rev 7 recently and it felt like I was still using jog wheels. Maybe something visually with the spindle guides hand placement for me. My Rane One brings me back to my first time scratching with Marantz turntables. I will get the Rev 7 (I'm a DJ tech junkie, just replaced my Numark mixtrack with my Mixstream just because..) but for those who trying to choose, heavy scratches in sets should go the Rane route while blenders and remixes should go the Rev 7 route even though both controllers can do it all...
I've watched both of your original reviews for each multiple times. that took care of the technical description very well. this video was a great wrap up... great job
a couple of things: 1) i've always used tuner spray to loosen up the faders on any of my mixers 2) regarding audio quality, they both have good sound, however, the rane sounds more analog when scratching, more real. in fact, in videos where it was rane vs other setups, the rane systems always sounded more like real turntables maybe do a video comparing scratching sound quality?
To date, I think this video and your commenTerry (see how I flipped that?) is the fairest and most unbiased comparison video in the One-Seven debate. To be fair, I have the Rane 12s & 70 mixer in a coffin. The Rane One sparked my interest last year for a lightweight backup unit, or for small events. However, I had a gut feeling with all the feedback about onboard Fx, that another would be released after 2022. Then the Rev-7 dropped, which actually has me in popcorn mode... waiting to see what happens next. If another Rane All-in-One comes out, no doubt it will be better than the One. Great Video!
Great comparison and real comments. If you are a dj coming from turntables and mixer. ALL controllers with moving platters and the Rane 12 are a dream. PERIOD. No needles or crates, serato, instant doubles. We blessed.
When the Rane One came out....wasnt really "wow'd" enough to buy because I already had the Traktor S4 MK3. It is a rock SOLID unit and have had ZERO issues with it. I had a Pioneer set up YEARS.....I MEAN YEARS AGO!! (2 CDJ500'S AND DM750 MIXER!! 😆) Nothing Pioneer has put out has made me want to spend the EXCESSIVE prices for their gear to get ANY of it!! ($13-16k for top of the line CDJ'S and mixer 🙄) But....I preodered the REV7. mostly because I wanted something new and NI hasnt EXACTLY been killing them game with anything new for the past few years. Plus, I started with turntables and still practice with them at home. (Just dont use them giging becauae of EXCESSIVE weight). Im excited to gwt my hands on this when it comes next month (hopefully ...fingers crossed)
Sold my Rane One for the Rev 7. I really regretted the lack of built in effects. I also wanted to upgrade at some point to a full turntable and mixer setup, and the Rev 7 may be exactly and really all I need.
What’s up my brother. I had to lean towards the rev 7. I’m jumping from a rev 1 to rev 7. Me personally, I really don’t like all the effects. I’m more of a old school with the 1200s. I do love my rev 7. I can’t wait until my rev 7 arrive. Thank you my brother for your review.
Great video CT! DJBooth here! The platter spinning uncontrollably and having problems is a known issue on Numark's Old V7, NS7, and TTX turntables... The problems appear usually after a few years of use. Looks like the RANE ONE is still using the same motors from the old line for their new gear. They are strong, but they have their issues down the road. Both are dope tho
@@ClevelandTerry Yeah, those motors will go forward and backwards uncontrollably fast for no reason until you turn them on and off. They don't seem to last as long as the other super-oem style motors.
@@kareem_the_dream interesting you mention sounds just like the Rane 12 mk1 which was recalled for motor issues. Sure it’s made of metal but has Numark parts….whack!
Great job. Thanks for the insight. The spindle adjust is something I thought about as well. Having turntables and looking for a portable version of home, the one may be more familiar.
I just got the RaneOne and love it! I'm coming from a ddjsx that I had for 7yrs and it just started to give me issues. I wanted the ddjsx3 for gigs and the 12s for home studio but a new ddjsx3 was 1200 and the 12s and mixer was 3k, so I said f**k it, get the RaneOne and case. The REV7 looks nice but 1900 for that and abunch of features that you will never use, to me, is pointless. Simplicity is the best way to go, it makes you focus on what really counts and thats mixing!!!
I come from Technics and recently started using the Rev-1 controller.... I’m probably going with the Pioneer Rev 7 because I love the Rev-1 so far so when it’s time to upgrade I’m going with the Rev!!!!
Very easy to get blindsided to the predecessor when the newer rival model comes out, but the Rane One blazed a trail in refining and slimming right down from the sizeable NS7 models. The pendulum swings back and forth. The Rane One is also used by Rob Swift. That is a significant endorsement in itself.
@@ClevelandTerry ... that’s because it was the only thing popping with spinning platters at the time and he needed something compact for the road that was easy to move around I think rob should test out the rev 7 just to see the difference it was nothing to compare the Rane one to at the time now it is!
Finally! ... was looking for the answer to my question about SEARCH FUNCTION on the Rev7 for weeks and now I have the answer. Thanks, CT. I agree that the Rane One touch strip is the more intuitive way to track search than the SHIFT+JOGWHEEL implementation on the Rev7... it may not take much time to adjust to the procedure, I hope.
Cheers CT, much appreciated. I'm still rocking the original NS7 (bought 2nd hand a year ago)and don't plan (as of yet) on upgrading to either of these even thought they look amazing.
Great comparison video. I don't own either one yet. I definitely prefer the XLR I/O, the raised design, and the power cable on the Rane One, but I'm probably going to go with the REV7 as I'm used to my DJM-909. I've always got my Rane SEVENTY and 1200's as a backup.
I'm moving from Traktor S4- S5 (over 15yrs) to Serato. I will admit, I like to have some bells, whistles, something a bit extra. I'm an IT type guy, so I want to feel that there is a level of functions that I haven't found out about yet. What I'm saying is that, I would feel buyers remorse if I got something that was within a year I figured out every nock and cranny of it, then realize that I don't have anything new to learn from it in the years to come. Coming from Traktor, I've had friends who said that the controller was overwhelming, but I always point out, just follow what you know when jumping on. The bases will always be there on each one. It's just, do you want to be the guy that avoids the voiceover, "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain!" Nah, let me see whats behind the vail! Lol. I told a friend once, if I come over, I'll be looking @ the Denom Prime 4, well Rev7 will be my transistion over!! You had a good point in regards to the mixer to platter size for scratching, it would be a bit tight, other controllers to Rane ONE, it's better but it looks like the Rev 7 gives you that extra space, so the Rev 7 would ease me to feel like I can scratch or at least get me learn more. All to say, I'm good for the full package!!
Thanks. I love your channel. I traded my RANE ONE to get the REV7 I love the lay out of the 7. I have S7 S9 S11( I run sound for concerts) Like you said about the efx. The RANE I had to remember what efx I had. With the 7 they are right up front. Once again keep up the great work and THANKS
As usual, a detailed analysis on both controllers. As I was thinking about it, I am thinking "these are still controllers, not standalone units." And these are niche controllers for a specific segment of DJs. I think this rationale is why Rane went its classic approach for the One (except for the placement for the pitch faders). While I can't deny that Pioneer has bought something unique with the Rev7, we still don't know if it will hold the test of the time and have some of the issues that the Rane One is currently having. I'd like to see a long term usage review for that. For most people, there is better value to be gained by the flagship controllers of the previous years. But I think your overall point in Rane One owners not having buyer's remorse is important. That being said, I am curious to see if Rane will come out with a Rane Two to address all the issues of the One.
You always do a great job in these equipment comparisons . I have the Rane One and I find it awesome. However, I do look forward to checking out the Ddj Rev 7. Peace
Just bought the Rane One and I have to say that it has brought me back to the passion of DJing. I started on Technic 1200s and this reminds me of that so much. I don't think I'd get that from the Rev 7 so I'll stick the Rane.
Good Info. This provided me some needed 411. I have been using a DDJ-SR for some time & love it! I have an upcoming gig where a Rane is the house controller. Just want to know what I'm working with it before my performance (always do your homework when in a "foreign place" when DJing!"). Thanks Cleveland! Be Blessed
Thank you for the informative video. Literally bought a Rane One just a week before the Rev 7 announcement and kinda felt like it was a major miss especially staying in Africa, travel has been crazy difficult not to mention how hard it is to come by money in the 3rd world. Was thinking if only I had waited one more week but then again, there was no way to guess that Pioneer was dropping something new. I will definitely put the Rane through its paces. No buyer's regret.
Thank Cleveland your honest comparison. it was refreshing to hearing the truth about both DJ gear. Thank and keep up the good work. Please tell your friends at Pioneer to put the S11 Mixer inside DDJ 1000 srt and that will be the best controller ever
The height of the rane one is to match the height of turntables and I have a problem with Pioneer mixer the effects pedals are flimsy most of the mixer in the Club in New York City are broken& let's hope the rca on the pioneer won't give us problems like the s9 I almost forgot no click in the middle of the pitch like technics turntable's
Problem solved.......get both. haha just messing BUT as an owner of a RANE ONE and a future owner of a REV7, i can honestly say i plan to use both of them. The rane i plan to use on functions where i dont need much, just small events, small venues, stuff that dont require me to "perform" and more or less just play music. The REV7 is going to go with me to "clubs" and places where i would "perform" such as with an artist or with a band. I have uses for both and i plan to keep both. they all have their own pros and cons but so far everything has been great with the RANE ONE and i do not plan to sell mine, PLUS i just got the JESSE DEAN tone arms, so now i can play 45s and 7 inch records whenever i wanna do an all vinyl set with that type of media. I really do feel like SERATO really needs to revamp their whole FX sound and use, i think if they fixed that, there would be no real gripes from DJs about the "hardware" effects. Please serato fix your FX to make it more useable.
Thanks for the info. I am a 52 yr old DJ originally out of Chicago. I started Dj when I was 10. I grow up Mixing disco, High NRG, Italo Disco, Electro Funk and was there for the birth of House music. I have never used CDJ's. I spinn now for my own personal pleasure. I am using My MacBook Pro early 2015 with Mac os 10.14 Mojave with Serato 2.0,5 because this setup still works with my Rane 62 and NumarkNS7II. I use hot ques and Loop a lot, I really don't sync, I ride the pitch old school style. I need moving platters. I will need tp upgrade soon!!!!!! This class complaint thing!!!!!! The rev7 look very strange to me. If you could help? The only effects I use are filters and I use them to change the frequency of a trax to mix into the other trax and delay to do some simple trick I used to do with doubles on truenables with vinyl. I am a blender not a scratch dj. (been looking at the Rane mp2015 rotary mix for my replacement of my Rane 62), Which controller feels for like the Numark NS7II? and has the better filters? The rev7 or the rane 1? Thank you for helping out an old man with new gear. Thank you Dj Abraham"Trackieman"Rios
I revisited this comparison today as my rev 7 came in today ...In short I feel exactly the same way about everything you spoke on ...my intention were to part with rane one once the rev 7 arrived ...I have really enjoyed the rane one as I actually bought it twice. I returned it when it first came out because of up and down faders no mic affects or on board fx...I went a head and got it again becouse of the size and build if it came down to me parting with one or the other it would be the rane .. its not an easy choice ...ps I did order some rubber feet to gently adhesive to my rev 7 ...so now its sits up off surfaces just life the rane one ....feet I got off amazon
I own the Rane one and like it overall, but the platters are way way too sensitive. I feel like it spins so easily compared to my 12s. It makes mixing hard b/c if you nudge the record (when speeding up/slowing down), it just skips ahead as it seems too feely to move. Another easy example is if you backspin--It will backspin for days as it's so light and lose feeling. Pitch bend becomes your best friend which defeats the purpose of using a movable platter unless you are only scratching, but even then, it's way too light and airy feeling compared to a 12" What I have done is stack slipmats which has helped it, but it still is too slippery and you cannot touch the record when mixing.
@@deejayladyshay ya, the fact that you cannot use the platter to mix and only scratch is a no-go for me, which is why I am selling. Also, if you use the outside out the platter to nudge, instead of using the record itself, it "will work," but you can literally hear the pitch bending, even with keylock as it senses you are trying to scratch, not bend. It's decent for scratching, but not for tight mixing. The Rane 12s, on the other hand, are terrific, especially when you change the slipmats and control record.
@@deejayladyshay I don't use the mic inputs as I use a Bose T4s to process all inputs before going to speakers. What is the deal with your mic? Just curious.
Completely agree with this! I have the twelve mk2’s with a djm S7 that requires some warranty repairs so I bought the Rane one for easier mobile and for a redundant unit. Platters are so so sensitive/easy to spin etc. Having a hard time with them relative to the twelve mk2’s which feel amazing . Other than that, I really like the unit…
Re Rev-7: With a better layout style on deck, effects and better line faders this is a deal maker for me. The concept of Rane 1 which I've own for some time now was a good one however Rane appeared to drop the ball with the very basic DJ essentials and that's layout and then the issue with on board effects , line faders , deficits with sharp cut in time and knobs on the front panel
I don’t do much gigs anymore, I’m mostly a bedroom Scratch/ DJ these days. I’m still rocking a Pioneer DDJ SX. I also have my 1210 MK5 a Rane62 and Rane TTM 57SL.
Awesome video! I’ve been having my Rane One for a year , and the booth and hi/low frequency knobs acted up , maybe the use of it ? But just to add those details!!
I like this review, I’ll be looking at more. I ended up coming back to the game after a long break from the 80’s and picked up the Mixstream Pro, but I’m having an issue with the jog wheel for scratching and cueing like my old 1200’s. Now I’m looking into the Rev7 or the Rane one for the spinning platters. Decisions, Decisions….thank you for all of the reviews and expertise…
I'm not even a controller type DJ but I think I would buy the Rev7. And I'm seriously thinking about selling my Rane 12's for one. Think I'll keep my 70 tho. Now I also and never will give up my original 1200's with a S11. But man! this video is making me come closer to getting the Rev7 for the house and simple gigs if I don't want to take out my 1200's.
I think you forgot my weird deciding factor…cue fader. Might sound ridiculous, but at least my last 3 mixers have had one. It is a big deal for me and how I mix in headphones.
I have a Rane One, and a Rane Seventy.. Salute to the Rev 7 and S11 owners out there, at the end of day once you learn the functions theres not much difference. I stick with Rane cos years ago i bought a second hand SL1 box that developed an issue. Contacted Rane and they fixed it for free even though it was out of warranty and i didnt have proof of purchase.
In a perfect world for Rane's response to the Rev 7 i wouldn't want a screen in the middle of my platter, I love my custom vinyl too much. Here's what I think would make it perfect. 1. Like CT said, sharper CF and smoother up faders. 2. Move the knobs in front (my belly hits them sometimes and moves their position, chubby people problems) 3. 4 CHANNELS AND DUAL LAYER DECKS! I seriously need 3/4 decks for my creativity but can't find it with an AFFORDABLE set up that's also motorized. 4. On board effects, not quite for me but just to catch up with the Rev7 for those who need it With all of the above I'd never buy another controller again. I wouldn't mind it weighing more or even being a bit of a bigger controller if I had it all in one package.
I’m still so torn! Can’t decide wether I want to sell my Rane One & switch to the Rev 7 or not. I was underwhelmed w/the Rane One from jump but it seems like such a hassle to sell/rebuy when I just got the One maybe 6 months ago. 😩
I was sitting this one out until my gig calendar required that I jump in. Needed turntable emulation that could travel easily, survive the rigors of the road and perform well on high stakes events. After being blown away trying out the REV7, I ended up copping the Rane One. For me it came down to tank-like metal construction, the internal power supply (you can find an IEC/C13 cable anywhere on the planet) and the feet. Road worthiness won out over the amazing REV7 feature set. Kinda blown to not have hardware fx at this price point but I had to be overwhelmingly practical with this decision.
Thanks for the video Terry. I’m glad you put the section about the power cord. That can be a big deal for a lot of people. But I will say…..Yo….that music made me sad for some reason. Lol
My friends selling me his rane one w innofader and foam case for 15. He's getting the rev 7 to upgrade. It'll be my first motorized unit. I think It'll be a good controller for me. What do you think?
no onboard FXs or physical curve adjust at that price point was the deal breaker....Think the Rev is awesome...i would go with rane due to its simplicity if not for FX issue.
Another great review. Thanks for doing it. I was waiting to see if Rane was going to come out with a Rane One n MKII any time soon. If you know, please let me know? Also the pitch placement on the Rane One when using a case is a bummer for me. I was planning on getting a Pro X case with a Rane one. but after seeing your review, i'm thinking Rev 7. I also heard that they were coming out with a Rev 10 or a Rev 7 with a 10" platter. Have you heard this?
For all the car enthusiasts, this is no different than the difference and similarity between a Mitsubishi EVO and Subaru WRX, Ford Coyote and Dodge Hemi or even Yamaha R1 and Suzuki GSXR1000. It really comes down to the person behind the controls.
I was wondering if you were gonna mention adding turntables with the capability of using the rev 7 mixer with them. What are your thoughts on that feature?
Hey Terry! Digital Dj Tips did the same comparison review and said exactly what u said. Which means u can’t go wrong either way. I personally love Rane gear have used it’s since the early 90’s (mp 24). I just think the built quality is better. I do like the Rev 7 but honestly the screen in the middle is over kill. I rather have more real estate to put my hands since it’s only 7 inch platters. If Rane comes out with a Rane 2 with onboard effects then that’s perfect! I definitely love the simplicity. Oh pioneer always suffered from poor pre amps. This Rev 7 by far is the best sounding controller in the pioneer brand. Here’s a video someone posted showing that the Rane 1 has a slight better sound quality even with pioneers improvement. Great job Terry! ua-cam.com/video/sHuEamCeDI4/v-deo.html
Great job on the comparison of the 2 controllers, they both are great. DJ's should buy what they are comfortable with. i'm old school 2 turntables and a simple mixer. Extra features are cool, but i know i will not use them too much. Your pros and cons were for the controllers were perfect. i love my Rane one, but the Rev 7 is awesome as well. if there is ever a price drop, i would buy it just to add it to my collection. thanks for the info.
Hello Cleveland, I believe you got me sold for the Pioneer ddj- 7, coming from a background of Technical 1200’s , however moving to serato how do you download music to your laptop , where your serato software is kept? Thanks Al 👍🏼🙏
Are the channel faders replaceable on both and will I have to send in for service? Pioneer and Rane both need to consider making this process easier for the consumer. Cross faders & Channel faders should be self replaceable- plug and play. Great video! Thank you!!
I wish the Rane one had spindle adjust like the 12’s. I have custom discs and the stick sometime and I get Too much resistance and limited spin. I know you can losses through screws but that still requires tinkering to get right. 100 % agree on the headphone jacks. I have that issue with them
The gadget nerd in me wants the rev-7 since I got duped by the allure of the rane 12s. But the size of the rane one the xlrs and the power cord have me leaning towards the rane one. But the numark mixstream is calling my name since I'm back at square one with having to replace all my equipment and music. Decisions Decisions. Thanks good vid.
Nothing wrong with the Rane 1. so if you got it last year or so don't worry about it. I did not get the Rane one for GIGs because it was lacking things I needed to perform. also, it is a bit crowded. I love the Rane 12mk2 with my S9 which I use the most. but the rEV 7 will be perfect for my mobile gigs, I really don't care about the 23 pounds. just love the unit. remember you can get a great Serato controller for $800-$1000. but the sound quality on the rev 7, man listen. for what I hear. you can take it to festivals and the sound guy will love you, lol
I didn't even know about all the problems you listed here about the Rane One. I'm buying a new device because I'm having problems with the current one. I don't know what the current status is, whether the bugs have been fixed. But if these are hardware problems, they won't be that easy to fix I guess. My favorite is also the Rane One as Pioneer is way too expensive in comparison.
I had another question for you. The market was going crazy with the battle-style dj gear. Not all dj are rough house or I guess the industry changed to beat juggling, scratch djing. Do you know If Searto, traktor, rekord box are working with Pioneer, In Music (Numark, Rane, Denon) with gear for blinding dj? Rane was once known for their rotary mixers. I hope I am not going to be forgotten by companies that only care about pushing a one size fits all product. I may need to dust off my Bozak Rotary mixer and just try and find new vinyl to spinn and stop buying music from Beatport or Traxsource. I wish Rane would combine the MP2015 mixers with 10" spinning platters like a mini 12mkII with the pitch, not on top or battle mode, and some simple Serato controls, like hot cue, looking loading trax, I would love to have a dream controller like this!!!!!!! Sorry, just an old man who has a hard time dealing with new gear that does not speak to me. Maybe it's time for me to walk away?
I don't think the industry is changing. I think they finally made a product for the scratch and battle DJs out there. If you really think about it, every controller is made for the standard DJ.
I currently have the Traktor S4 MK3, so I'd rather not get a controller that doesn't have motorized jogwheels or platters. I've grown to love too much. I'm looking to transition over to Serato this year. So I'm kinda torn. I love that the Rev 7 gives you an entire S9 mixer basically. But I also love the streamlined look of simplicity that the Rane One has. Ultimately, either would be a logical solution for me. But I guess it'll all boil down to which one feels better. Hard to choose without knowing how either of them feel 🤷🏾♀️
You have come a long way. There eas a day when you would have never come out and say which one you think is better. You would say it's all personal preference, I believe. If that truly is the case, and my sincerest apologies if not, I like this way better. Nothing wrong with you giving your opinion, especially after giving such a thorough breakdown. Put your ass out there! I ain't broke down nothing and I'm picking pioneer. I was thinking about an s7 but now this is out, its mine. Getting too old to keep lugging this cfin with tablets and mixer 😒. You are givin mojax a run for his money with your tech reviews 👍🏿
I can’t justify the $1500 price difference for the REV7. Here in Canada 🇨🇦 I can pickup a used Rane One for $1400. A new REV7 will set me back $2900 not to mention most suppliers here are back ordered till mid May. Gonna wait for the Rane One MkII. Hopefully Rane is listening and will introduce new features to make the Rane One replacement a viable option.
Said it before Serato is the winner here, Rane no doubt will tweak the next model whilst keeping a more traditional platter design, the real question is should both of these devices been made to function as stand alone? The second question being who out of Rane and Pioneer will take the risk and make a stand alone all in one with moving platters, given that Pioneer have already put screens in their platters, it is not massive jump to add screens to the mk2 model for them, Rane could borrow the 7 inch screen from the Prime go and slap it in the middle if a screen were to be added it would need to be adjustable.
After watching an interview with Pioneer they claim the reason why they didn’t put an internal power source is because of heat on the platters. They never mentioned anything about noise which wouldn’t make sense considering they have IEC cables on their pro mixers
@@ClevelandTerry Totally makes sense thank you! I ordered one. If you find any cases or semi rigid bags for the Rev 7 please let us know. Depending on the way I’m thinking about bringing one of my next tour at the end of February
@@djstuc Agreed! I'm still using my Sony a6500 and its still going strong! It's perfect for what I need it for, and nothing more!
I will alway buy and try new stuff been buying dj Equipment since 1985
The same reason why I by DJ equipment is the same reason why I upgrade my computers it’s just part of the game if it wasn’t that I would still just be using 1200 techniques
I've used the Rane One primarily out and about and will Here are my Pros for the Rane One:
1) Turntable Feel with the portability of vinyl control. The felt slipmat is super thin and backspinning is very light in resistance. My DVS records + Butter Rugs never felt this smooth. It is very fun to use
2) Easy to do Instant doubles. Double tap load button and you're good to go
3) Crossfader is butter
4) reliable as fuck!! I brought my turntables for a wedding gig, only for my DVS Phase to not work correctly (again). Had my Rane One on hand (for backup) and it worked flawlessly.
5) sound quality is amazing
CONS:
1) OLDER COMPUTERS - This one isn't spoken about because I assume UA-camr Channels have the latest and greatest computer hardware for their gigs.
I truly wonder what the Rev 7 will be like with my laptop
2) Not a fan of Cue buttons on mixers, that should be left for 4 channel devices
3) Crossfader curve adjust is on front, making it easy to accidentally change from sharp to smooth mid performance
4) software fx are unsatisfying and not fun to use. I'm not totally against Serato FX..They were fun to use on my Pioneer SB2, and pretty great on my Numark Scratch DVS mixer. Something about the Rane One, my FX always feel "off"
Sometimes I'm using DVS or Rane One and I need to quickly rewind, and I find myself holding shift and backspinning on the vinyl but it rewinds normally and not fast.
CT always has the best reviews from someone who actually uses the gear in real life scenarios 👍
Like you said, no buyers remorse
what a deal!
Where u get that deal
@@FyahEmblem Facebook marketplace bro
I've watched both of your original reviews for each multiple times. that took care of the technical description very well. this video was a great wrap up... great job
a couple of things:
1) i've always used tuner spray to loosen up the faders on any of my mixers
2) regarding audio quality, they both have good sound, however, the rane sounds more analog when scratching, more real. in fact, in videos where it was rane vs other setups, the rane systems always sounded more like real turntables
maybe do a video comparing scratching sound quality?
This was exactly what I needed, thank you! Unrelated, but I love the fact that you used Battlecat's routine for footage lol
Thank you.
($13-16k for top of the line CDJ'S and mixer 🙄)
But....I preodered the REV7. mostly because I wanted something new and NI hasnt EXACTLY been killing them game with anything new for the past few years.
With regards to the cross fade, there are many DJs who have installed an Innofader and are now very happy. Keep up the great work Terry.
I have an Innofader in my rane 70.
I used turntables for 36 years and never used the spindle,I use the platter with my finger to slow down or push the record and pitch to speed up.
Thankyouuuuuuu...I just purchased the Rane one. I'm happy with it so far. It's all I need.
Good to know. I’ve seen serial IDs on the rane one with numark designations so I think you’re right.
Been waiting for this ever since you said on your live you'd be dropping the comparison vid!
I have some much respect for you man... you're one of the rarest without BIAS ... respct.
Well to be fair, and I know Rob, rane did send him that unit but yes, he does use it religiously.
@@ClevelandTerry ... that’s because it was the only thing popping with spinning platters at the time and he needed something compact for the road that was easy to move around I think rob should test out the rev 7 just to see the difference it was nothing to compare the Rane one to at the time now it is!
Agreed.
Finally! ... was looking for the answer to my question about SEARCH FUNCTION on the Rev7 for weeks and now I have the answer.
It's just, do you want to be the guy that avoids the voiceover, "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain!"
Nah, let me see whats behind the vail!
They better. 😀
Curious but what issues do you feel the Rane One is having right now specifically?
You always do a great job in these equipment comparisons . I have the Rane One and I find it awesome. However, I do look forward to checking out the Ddj Rev 7. Peace
Just bought the Rane One and I have to say that it has brought me back to the passion of DJing. I started on Technic 1200s and this reminds me of that so much. I don't think I'd get that from the Rev 7 so I'll stick the Rane.
They are both good
Great comparison! I kept thinking Lo Pan from Big Trouble in little China was gonna pop out at some point because of the background music lol.
Stop calling africa 3rd world. Thanks
Thank Cleveland your honest comparison. it was refreshing to hearing the truth about both DJ gear. Thank and keep up the good work. Please tell your friends at Pioneer to put the S11 Mixer inside DDJ 1000 srt and that will be the best controller ever
Great video, Cleveland! Thanks for the helpful insight.
The Rane 1 is perfect for blending dj that don’t scratch, the tension on the up faders are perfect for blending trax
This was a very thoughtful analysis. Thanks for doing it.
Also, honestly, I would have loved to hear what your original review was. I was like, Hummm, Can't Wait to hear what Mr. T has to say!! lol
My original review links are at the end of the video.
Thank you

Rane's sound and build quality will always be second to none
The rev 7 is comparing quite nicely against the rane one.
I revisited this comparison today as my rev 7 came in today ...In short I feel exactly the same way about everything you spoke on ...my intention were to part with rane one once the rev 7 arrived ...I have really enjoyed the rane one as I actually bought it twice. I returned it when it first came out because of up and down faders no mic affects or on board fx...I went a head and got it again becouse of the size and build
if it came down to me parting with one or the other it would be the rane .. its not an easy choice ...ps I did order some rubber feet to gently adhesive to my rev 7 ...so now its sits up off surfaces just life the rane one ....feet I got off amazon
I completely agree about nudging. Also, my mic is terrible. Two of the main reasons I’m looking to jump ship.
@@DJJASProductions they sound really muffled the more volume you give it. And yea I run everything thru an external as well.
The concept of Rane 1 which I've own for some time now was a good one however Rane appeared to drop the ball with the very basic DJ essentials and that's layout and then the issue with on board effects , line faders , deficits with sharp cut in time and knobs on the front panel
al always, you did an amazing job on reviewing dr gear.
I don’t do much gigs anymore, I’m mostly a bedroom Scratch/ DJ these days. I’m still rocking a Pioneer DDJ SX. I also have my 1210 MK5 a Rane62 and Rane TTM 57SL.
The rane one is the best because it is built like the 1200 turntable
Awesome video! I’ve been having my Rane One for a year , and the booth and hi/low frequency knobs acted up , maybe the use of it ? But just to add those details!!
Thank you another amazing break down video 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Mr Cleveland … do you think Rane 1 lacks headphone volume punch compared to pioneer?
I think you forgot my weird deciding factor…cue fader. Might sound ridiculous, but at least my last 3 mixers have had one. It is a big deal for me and how I mix in headphones.
I agree, I hate the buttons but some don’t.
Thanks for the content. Any chance you can add some gain to your audio? It's significantly lower than the typical content I watch.
Thank you for this comparison video!
That was a different rane tho. There service used to be absolutely amazing when they were in Washington or Oregon. I always forget.
In a perfect world for Rane's response to the Rev 7 i wouldn't want a screen in the middle of my platter, I love my custom vinyl too much.
Here's what I think would make it perfect.
1. Like CT said, sharper CF and smoother up faders.
2. Move the knobs in front (my belly hits them sometimes and moves their position, chubby people problems)
3. 4 CHANNELS AND DUAL LAYER DECKS! I seriously need 3/4 decks for my creativity but can't find it with an AFFORDABLE set up that's also motorized.
4. On board effects, not quite for me but just to catch up with the Rev7 for those who need it
With all of the above I'd never buy another controller again.
Tough decision. I’m glad I’m not you. 😀
I get it.
@@ClevelandTerry I mean, price differential was a factor as well.
I’m under nda so I can’t say anything about upcoming gear but I can tell you there is no rev 10.
For all the car enthusiasts, this is no different than the difference and similarity between a Mitsubishi EVO and Subaru WRX, Ford Coyote and Dodge Hemi or even Yamaha R1 and Suzuki GSXR1000. It really comes down to the person behind the controls.
Coyote over Hemi. WRX over EVO.
Evo more exclusive but over all done better imo with WRX.
Excellent reference can’t forget Small Block Chevy! LOL
Great review!
That's right. Buy what we like. Awesome 👍😎. Great day.
Thanks for the review, i like both but if the reliabilty is better in the rev 7 i gotta go with that
My comment is on the video. 🔥🔥🔥
Ty for this video brother CT..
It sounds excellent.
Wich one sounds better rane one or rev7?
@@angelfranco5809 up to the user. The rev7 has a overall better sound to me.
A very fair comparison ….. thank u!
Thanks again for the info!
Good review. I get a lot of DJ work from 'DJ Work Agent' so I need something solid to use. Thx...
AMAZING CONTENT !!!!! DOPE ISHHH BRO
Soon I buy the Rane. I love it
After watching an interview with Pioneer they claim the reason why they didn’t put an internal power source is because of heat on the platters. They never mentioned anything about noise which wouldn’t make sense considering they have IEC cables on their pro mixers
I have pioneers rev7 release documents and that was the reason. Yes heat is also a reason, but that’s not the reason they chose to highlight.
@@ClevelandTerry Totally makes sense thank you! I ordered one. If you find any cases or semi rigid bags for the Rev 7 please let us know.
Depending on the way I’m thinking about bringing one of my next tour at the end of February
Rane One Team.
