It is incorrect to say that the Western or Wailing Wall is the only remaining part of Herod's temple complex. Most if not all of the temple platform wall is Herodian. Great video Sam! 3:45 The notion of separate kingship and high priesthood is not found in Numbers, but you are probably thinking about Korah's dispute over the leadership which is found there, ch. 16. Indeed, the institution of kingship is never mentioned in Numbers. Notions of separate kingship are found in Deuteronomy, in chapters 17-18. Interestingly, the notion of a strict devision probably did not exist in the early monarchy; David performs sacrificial rites (2Sam 6) and his sons served as priests (2Sam 8). Still, unlike in Hasmonean times, this was probably the exception not the rule, as the Levite-Zadokite clan is said to be the primary priestly family.
The massacre of the innocents probably did not result in very many deaths. A potential high number could be in the teens. And it does fit Herod’s character.
They were probably around 30 or 40, given that bethlehem at that time had a population of roughly 1000 people according to Josephus. Its not something that historians would care about, as it would just be another minor episode.

7:35 Many historians is unwilling to consider the historical value of religious texts. The massacre might also have been seen as irrelevant by outside and later historians and supressed by historians living during the reign of the Herod dynasty, since there is a high certainty that Christ is an historical person.
While later traditions say that 14 000 or 64 000 or 144 000 boys where killed in the massacre (all numbers of prophetic significance), scholars today estimate that the massacre would only have between 6 and 20 victims, based on what we know about the population of Bethelem at that time. The word Jewish is synonymous... judean doesn't mean of the tribe of Judah. It's the same as being an American, it's a geographical designation, but not racial as in relating to Jacob the man who was renamed Israel. See the book tracing Our Ancestors by Frederick Haberman.
I'm descended from Herod the Great, but I only know that because he was an ancestor of Charlemagne and since a great portion of the European world has him as an ancestor that really isn't that special.

According to Historian Josephus, Herod Antipas executed John the Baptist because he feared John's popularity. So, the Herodias/Salome tale of John's execution seems to be a christian embellishment to John's death. 14:15 omg, my last name is Cohen and my father's family (grandparents) were Egyptian Jews born in Cairo. Who knows !!
You're lucky , you didn't see Jonas family tree from the series of DARK hhhhhh😂🤣🤣
imagine not getting the notification for a video until 7 hours later
Great channel just wanted to correct the part where you say that only book of Matthew speaks of King of Kemet ordering male Israelite children be put to death, it’s mentioned also in Exodus’s 1:15-22, this is where it’s first mentioned. I believe it’s mentioned in the KJV 1611 w Apocrypha
There were other descendants of Tigranes VI like Julia Quadratilla who could be an ancestor of Charlemagne.
Jesus Christ is the True God emporer of mankind. He is the Son of God who died, was buried, and rose again in accordance with the prophecies told about him. Isaiah 53 being one of them
What about Julia Iotapa, the daughter of Gailus Julius Alexander of Cetis. She married Gaius Julius Lupus Titus Vibius Varus Laevillus. Their descendants survived.
The book of Matthew doesn't say 3 wise men, it only says wise men. The 3 has only been assumed because it mentions 3 gifts.
Another good video!
The name Μακκαβαῖος מַכַּבִּי makaBI (Maccabeus) is from מַכְבַּנַּי makh-banai (1 Chronicles 12: 13) and מַכְבֵּנָה makh-bena (1 Chronicles 2: 49) and כַּבּוֹן kabon (Joshua 15: 40).
The account of the Visit of the Magi never indicates how many Magi there were; tradition says three probably because three gifts are mentioned in the biblical story. There could have been as few as two or there could have been many; all the story makes clear is that there were more than one.
Please do a video on the family tree of Adolph Sutro. Very important man in US history that not enough know about.
Could you slow down while narrating for further reference please???????? Thank you!!
Had there been a shred of material archeological evidence about the Temple location, we would have been bombarded with that on daily basis.
Could have mentioned the failed Israeli Lavon Affair in 1954 instead of just saying Jews were expelled from Egypt.
Nice charts though, with a studied choice of themes and words and selected events.
The word Jewish is synonymous... judean doesn't mean of the tribe of Judah. It's the same as being an American, it's a geographical designation, but not racial as in relating to Jacob the man who was renamed Israel. See the book tracing Our Ancestors by Frederick Haberman.
I would need a whole month of solitude to follow this meaningfully 🤦🏾♂️
Hope you make a chart of biblical genealogy
Check the description. 4 out of the 6 parts are now finished.
I'm descended from Herod the Great, but I only know that because he was an ancestor of Charlemagne and since a great portion of the European world has him as an ancestor that really isn't that special.
That makes no sense. There's no way that it'd be possible to trace Charlemagne's ancestry to Herod as well as the facts that it'd make no sense to claim descent from him since he's the bad guy of the story. Lastly, google-ing it yields no mentions of even a *proposed* connection.
@@BurnBird1 Of course parts of it are not known with 100% accuracy, but the line appears to be: Herod the Great -> Prince Alexander -> Gaius Julius Alexander -> Tigranes VI of Armenia -> Gaius Julius Alexander -> Julia Iotapa -> Julia Quadratilla -> Aulus Julius Claudius Charax -> Julia (Qaudratilla) -> Gaius Asinius Quadratus Protimus -> Gaius Asinius Nicomachus Julianus -> Asinia Juliana Nicomacha -> M. Charlemagne was not a descendant of Herod.😂😂😂
Herod was an Idumean, so basically you're saying you're a descendant of esau!!
Dang it this needs its own chart lol The ancient dynasties chart you sell has a huge missing chunk that goes from Josiashs grandson to jesus lol. I NEED THIS CHART TO BE A THING! IF you wish lol Nice vid.
Also in the section of ancient dynasties chart you sell, the names of the Hasmoneans are fairly different than they are shown in this vid. Why is that? Thanks again!
Hearing about Pompei’s actions before the civil war feels … weird
I am a descendant of the Herod Dynasty, I have been doing research and just found out. Now I know why my family suffers from a generational curse. Evil man.
Are from Demetrius line my god we may have found him
What's your nationality?
the heads horns etc in rev 12 are the herodian dynasty.
Super!
God bless pray you come to Christ and turn from sin in Jesus name.Amen.
I have a very good idea for your channel: The organization of the Holocaust. This is very confusing as the Nazi Party, German government, SS, RSHA, SD, SiPO, Gestapo where overlapping organizations. Somehow there is an organizational relationship between Hitler, Himmler, Heydrich, Eichmann, Globocnik and Stangl commander of Treblinka, but I have never seen it. Where does the Operation Reinhardt and the Einsatzgruppen diverge?
I don't do charts about Hitler and his evil cohorts. I believe in the principle of Yimakh shemo (may his name be forgotten). I'm not saying that there shouldn't be Holocaust education. There should. But so many people like to focus on Hitler and Nazis to the point that it's almost glorifying them.
When you say a family replaces another, do you mean that they're still genetically linked with different last names? Or are they not related in any shape or form
Shadrach was also the name of a track by the Beastie Boys. All three members were Jewish.
Herod the murderer.
"It's better to be Herod's pig than his son." -Augustus
note Herod was an adomnite not a jew
@@godisreality7014 No that doesn't even make sense, Jews are of Jacob , Edomites are of Esau. They don't call themselves Jews because they hate Jews. They completly hate Judaism and everything about it, look up where Edom is located it's literally Palestine and those Palestinians completly hate Jews and kiII a lot of them.
Useful charts deserves 1 million subs (:
7:14 huge fan Sam, but everyone knows that there were only "3 wise men," right? The magoi were never numbered in Matthew. This later European detail stems from their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, which Matthew does mention. And it might be good to consider what such a contingent of religious leaders coming to Herod might actually look like. But at that point, we'd have to acknowledge that Persia exists.
And that is history
Excellent video series. At 10:00, I think it is anachronistic to talk about 'antisemitism'. Basically, I think romans crushed judea because it was too unruly to govern. My impression is that the first judean war was a quasi civil war situation that degenrated in all-out war with rome...
He didn't say antisemitism was the act of crushing Judea
After this .. next generation history ?
The last video has verification check marks showing who was and wasn’t proven to be historical figures. Is everyone in this video’s timeline a historical figure?
Yes.
Cohen? I somewhere read, that among german jews the name Kohn was found, and that Kohn was not only a name, but was also a kind of title, so the end of the video seems plausible.
Yes, Cohen or Kohn is both a last name and a title given to those who are supposedly direct male line descendants of Aaron, the first high priest.
@@UsefulCharts even more interesting still is the fact the just like Genghis khan - genetic research found that almost all those with the last names of kohen, kahn, kogen and the like do have a common ancestor around three thousand years ago (give or take several centuries) - the so called priestly gene. so their claim does indeed seems to be true.
With all the wars and destruction and "purifications" (what a horrible term) over the centuries, I wonder if there are ANY families today, who can safely trace their ancestry back to, say, early roman times
EDIT: that is, in europe. I know the japanese tennos can go back pretty far
@Lobhath Swodaem You can go even a little bit further, like two or three generations, via Ferreolus' wife, to Afranius Syagrius in the late 300's.
And when you can actually trace your (mother's) male line back so far, that's so incredibly awesome, I envy you ^_^
Please please sell your posters on Amazon. I want to buy more than one!! it'll be more than convienient.
They are known for treating their workers poorly. I don't want to support that.
Are the royals today through Esau I believe the pharisees were through Ezau and the dukes were mention when talking about Esau.
According to Historian Josephus, Herod Antipas executed John the Baptist because he feared John's popularity. So, the Herodias/Salome tale of John's execution seems to be a christian embellishment to John's death.
Robert Eisenman who, in my opinion, wrote the definite history of those days until new material would be discovered, wrote that the apostle Paul was a Herodian. It would be interesting to know where is his place in that tree. But who knows!
@@humphrey212 Only according to the new testament, which that, in and of itself is faulty.
You're so beautiful so interesting that I'm learning from you. God be with you, God bless you. Thank you for this inspiration is showing us this chart everyday. I learned a lot for you as a seventy five year old man
