What i love about your channel is that you are constantly asking which is the best. You display pretty nice footage and then you show the Sony A7SIII footage and the heavens shower us with golden light, a choir of angels sing, blue birds drop ribbons everywhere and baby deer wink at us from behind your eagle thing that is always in the background. You never get this. It is right in front of you and blindingly obvious.
Late last year, Canon filed a patent for an RF 200-500mm F/4L lens with built-in 1.4x extender. A fixed-aperture zoom that long and fast, with a built-in extender, will likely cost over $10K USD. Fuhgeddaboudit unless you're a sports or wildlife pro. The Sony 200-600 wobbles simply because of its weight. The RF 100-500 is easy to handhold; that's its biggest advantage. I add a 1.4x extender, but that makes it a 700mm F/10 at the long end and it needs good light. Still, I do like it. If you think the Canon zoom IBIS is jerky when you pan, try an adapted Tamron 150-600 G2. Unusable! That's why I sold it for the Canon. I just saved you the trouble of testing it.
Correct, as the center of mass is further from the face, along with more inertial mass in the Sony and then the correction reflex of our arms overshoots the subject target, and then that has to be corrected again, etc... A lens made out of Styrofoam would solve this. Coming soon from Tamron.
I didn't hear you mention the fact that the Canon 100-500 can focus from 4ft at 500mm, making it more versatile than that 200-600 from Sony. It is also a great close up lens.
Why is the canon so noisy compared to the Sony? When doing the Aden's camera ad it seemed like you were several stops underexposed. I suggest you overexpose a bit and then bring down the footage. It's a matter of Signal to noise ratio, you get more signal at higher ISOs and you see less noise when lowering the exposure in post. Especially when you hit the double gain: Canon EOS R6 mark II is very inefficient under 800 ISO, it seems like, my suggestion would be being at least at 1600 with that camera. A7s III on the other end seems to handle thing better, but from 1600 ISO and up is where it shines. Source: Photons to photos.
Not sure when the native clog3 ISO begins at the R6 II, but on the R7 you also have the base ISO in clog3 and HDR PQ at ISO 800 as well where the noise is the least, ISO 400 looks cruel compared to. In 8 bit recording ISO 100 to 400 looks amazing. I get it with the dynamic range boost to get a noise floor similar to a doubled ISO, but clog3 footage is notoriously noisy on ANY EOS R additionally...

thats because sony has denoiser baked in the footage, you can't turn it off... while canon can be turned off. althought i think kasey might not nailed the setting quit right, not sure where is the issue. might not be at base iso or he lifted the shadows in post... both system has their way to make it better... if you use a sony a7siii you know that you can't go off the base iso or it's gonna be noisy af
@DNdavidsonsnation not entirely true!! It's more than likely as he's recording, the camera's set to auto focus and it's actually the lens motor that's noisy.... not the camera!! My sigma 18-35mm has a very lud focus motor and a good microphone will pick that up very easily.... so, Lens Motor NOT CAMERA
Tough choice, colour and balance better on the left. Face is nicer on the right.. but it does look a bit jaundiced on the right. Shirts a bit deeper and more saturated on the right.
Same issue with the R7 - 1080p is just "bad", you have to use the regular 4k mode which is barely much sharper or detailed than the 1080p with wasting a ton of SD card space. But at least there are no compression artifacts left by using the 4k mode instead of the low bitrate of 1080p The R7 is my pseudo R6 II, pretty much as good except for low light and uncropped 4k60.
I'd love to have you videograph the wildlife on my property, 12 acres plus I have 4 alpacas. Sure, I may live in Wisconsin and yes it was -12F w/out the wind chill taken into effect but I noticed there was still room in the shot to "Elevate" that Aden cameras logo. Should be enough to pay for the flight and a pair of alpaca mittens so you're in business
At least for my a7iv, I have the custom button on the lens set up manual focus override which functions like what you describe for the canon. You have to hold the button down while manual focusing (and peaking will be on), but if you let go, it will go back to autofocus. It works great often when the animal/bird eye detect is struggling, I can manually help it out but then revert back easily.
The Canon images look significantly sharper and more natural than the Sony shots that look like they have too much digital sharpening applied. The 4K60 on the R6 II is the best in the mirrorless world right now and it shows. I wonder why you get so much noise in your Canon footage? I have the R6 II and I routinely shoot 4K60 Clog3 at ISO12800 and it has almost no noise at all. Daytime shots at ISO800 are completely noise free. Something is wrong with your exposure perhaps but more likely it's something to do with the log conversion. Set up Resolve to a color managed workflow and the results are spectacular.
I think you have your noise reduction in camera set to standard. Try turning it off which will show a much sharper image but may introduce more noise especial at higher frame rates
its must be an user error because its 1.4 lens also. On my R5 with lenses like 2.8 in room i got way better rersults without any noise. Auto-Setting never going right
as expected... clog3 :D Yeah clog3 is also on R6 and R7 very noisy, HDR PQ is pretty much noiseless compared to. Basic 8 bit recording without DR boost give the least noise under high ISO conditions.
@@cameraconspiracies Is it automatic settings or manual? it looks like the iso is automatic + the toneh is reduced by a few stops. You need to raise the shadows a bit but at the same time so as not to burn out the lights, it is known that there is nothing to pay attention to the lamp, I'm speaking generally. In C-Log3 from Canon you must have well-exposed shadows, i.e. you must see details well in them. Then you will reduce the noise a lot more because the image will be properly exposed, I recommend using the histogram and turning off the contrast simulation in the C-log settings.
@@harrison00xXx You are wrong, you just need to expose the logos well and not use the contrast simulation in the c-log settings and also use the histogram. I used R6 and R7 and there were no problems. Of course, these cameras hum more, but not that much :).
I am not an expert but Sony seems not a little but a huge sharper...about color: eth is true if you compare side by side, but less strong in single image
Thoughts on fluid head tripod for bird/wildlife video? All these wobbly bird videos, not really enjoyable to watch, 240p or otherwise. I feel like those who shoot hand-held video are like 'natural light' photographers who are really just too lazy to learn how to use flash and haul around the extra gear.
Curious how you would compare the R6ii to the R. I'm using the R for wildlife with an adapted Sigma 150-600 and find it quite good. The Sigma has issues with R5/R6 but works great on the R.
I switched from RP to the R6 (and then to RP+ R7 as nice combo), i also have the Sigma 150-600C and i also found the Sigma less problematic on the RP (than on R6 or R7) But in the end especially for videography and 60+ fps the R6 II is just MUCH BETTER than the R (or RP, basicaly the same crop nonsense), the R6 was already and i even prefer the R7 over the R6 because of the crop, not so the additional heavy crop in 4k60 tho but with shorter lenses its nice because the smaller than MFT sensor size. The R6 II sounds really nice except for the thing i heard in this video, the not avoidable overheating message when switching to 4k60, thats a bummer and 4 seconds wasted, thats literally worse than the Panasonic GH6 and how long it takes to start the recording. Probably, if not fixed via software a reason to avoid it lol.
Have you tried cinematch? I'm getting pretty natural but more pleasing results going from slog3 to gh5s colour using their software fixes a lot of the bizarre colors you get some times.
I'm gonna start off by saying "Leopards of Saturn" is one of the nicest, smartest, and most relaxing pieces of music I've heard in a long time!! I literally listen everyday!! 2nd, I think the R6II will be my 1st FF camera and the R7 will be my upgrade to my now M6II which I looooove btw!! It really is the one I shoot all my vlogs with!!
I got the R6 II in December and it's just amazing; easily the best camera in its class (followed by the A7IV, then the R6, then the S5 II... nobody has time for cropped high speed modes in 2023). The 4K60 is the sharpest 4k60 of any mirrorless and much sharper than the 4k120 of the A7SIII. I don't believe oversampled 4K60 exists on any other mirrorless cam AFAIK. I'm also shocked at how relatively easy it is to edit 4k60 10 bit Clog3 footage on my 7 year old 27" iMac. UA-camrs had me believing I needed a new M1 Mac to run this but it's totally doable (in Resolve Studio). Here I know you are reviewing the "system" and not just the camera. But the camera on its own is definitely the class leader.
Agree, but GH6 has even oversampled 4K120fps. Both Lumix and Fujifilm brand cameras have oversampled 4K60fps, GH5 II and GH5 had as well. Same a lot of Fujifilms. And - in the Canon lineup - a lot of cameras, not only R6 mark II, but - R6, R5C, R3. R5 has oversampled 4K60fps in APSC mode, not full frame, but you can use speed booster, actually R5 can even output 5.1K 60 FPS to Atomos Ninja V+. I'm pretty sure Nikon Z9 do oversampling 4K60fps as too. Sony A7SIII has oversampling in this mode as well, from 4.2K to UHD. In Sony A1 there is some option with external recorder to achieve oversampling in 60fps (internal line-skipped only, but still there is an option). I'm not sure about Sony A7RV. But - there are actually plenty of mirrorless cameras which can do oversampling in 4K60fps, starting with super cheap Lumix G9 (can do it too!).
I used to use pp11 and never noticed the sky getting the colors you are, maybe I need to go back through my old footage. I may have prematurely congratulated myself for getting it right straight out of camera. Not even kidding
Great comparison! The R6 II colour science is worse, the extra yellow/green gives a jaundice look to skin tones, and a 'forever golden hour' vibe to outdoors shots. Plus the very noisy shadows and lower 1080p quality points to line skipping again
All Sony were more pleasing to me and I am a Canon relic. I’m drinking from a Canon mug as I write this comment. Purple sky is a fair trade off for Sony imagery. You do beautiful work with both systems.
Sony color science is the best. I dont want fake canon colors jeopardizing the integrity of my shot. If im going to over saturate, ill do it myself in post. I want my out of camera images to be the most genuine possible. Even if that means theyre not always the most flattering on humans.

4k120 from A7s3 is top of the class at the moment. Canon has only caught up to 4k60. Unless we count R5c but that thing has lots own problem for Kasey's use case. Lens wise 100-500 is the better lens.
What are you yammering about. The R5 came out with 4K120 before the A7SIII and the R6 II is the only mirrorless with oversampled 4K60 right now... it has the sharpest 4K60 out there.
@@77dris R5 4k120 is the single most unusable feature in its many limited functions. Typical Australian summer day outside under the sun, 5min before you feel the heat, the camera overheat s first. After that even 4k HQ is limited until the whole system cools down to normal temperature. Stop listening to youtubers live in Canada tell you new firmware fixed the R5 overheating issue. It has not

@@hy7968 the 60-600 is a thick, heavy boy. Also its stabilizer is horrendous, worst stabilizer i ever saw on any tele lens, and my 150-600C isnt much better. Hell, even my 150-600C is "too heavy" for hikes and i prefer the RF 800 F11 which is really a lightweight charme.

Kasey, in my opinion it is fair to compare 100-500 L vs 100-400 GM.
Also i suppose the Sony a1 in APS-C mode + 200-600 G would beat your setup.

Yeah thats why I think the sony 100-400 gm would be so nice. It can focus from 98 cm at 400. Almost macro shots. The 200-600 is like 2 meters

Canon has the best colours, Sony has to much saturation and Nikon has a green tint. In my eyes.

Sony with their sensor have mostly won ISO and DnR, even since their first FF Camera came out, the RX1, theyve GOT ISO and DR nailed.

Try turning it off which will show a much sharper image but may introduce more noise especial at higher frame rates
The canon doesn't look sharp, looks like a mushy mess, this footage I would discard.

its must be an user error because its 1.4 lens also. On my R5 with lenses like 2.8 in room i got way better rersults without any noise. Auto-Setting never going right

Yeah clog3 is also on R6 and R7 very noisy, HDR PQ is pretty much noiseless compared to. Basic 8 bit recording without DR boost give the least noise under high ISO conditions.
@@cameraconspiracies Is it automatic settings or manual? it looks like the iso is automatic + the toneh is reduced by a few stops. You need to raise the shadows a bit but at the same time so as not to burn out the lights, it is known that there is nothing to pay attention to the lamp, I'm speaking generally. In C-Log3 from Canon you must have well-exposed shadows, i.e. you must see details well in them. Then you will reduce the noise a lot more because the image will be properly exposed, I recommend using the histogram and turning off the contrast simulation in the C-log settings.
@@harrison00xXx You are wrong, you just need to expose the logos well and not use the contrast simulation in the c-log settings and also use the histogram. I used R6 and R7 and there were no problems. Of course, these cameras hum more, but not that much :).
I am not an expert but Sony seems not a little but a huge sharper...about color: eth is true if you compare side by side, but less strong in single image
Canon R5C 5.9K oversampled 4K with 1.6X crop gives you 800mm FOV and still more pixels than the A7Siii with the 100-500.

Thoughts on fluid head tripod for bird/wildlife video? All these wobbly bird videos, not really enjoyable to watch, 240p or otherwise. I feel like those who shoot hand-held video are like 'natural light' photographers who are really just too lazy to learn how to use flash and haul around the extra gear.

Curious how you would compare the R6ii to the R. I'm using the R for wildlife with an adapted Sigma 150-600 and find it quite good. The Sigma has issues with R5/R6 but works great on the R.
I switched from RP to the R6 (and then to RP+ R7 as nice combo), i also have the Sigma 150-600C and i also found the Sigma less problematic on the RP (than on R6 or R7)
But in the end especially for videography and 60+ fps the R6 II is just MUCH BETTER than the R (or RP, basicaly the same crop nonsense), the R6 was already and i even prefer the R7 over the R6 because of the crop, not so the additional heavy crop in 4k60 tho but with shorter lenses its nice because the smaller than MFT sensor size.
The R6 II sounds really nice except for the thing i heard in this video, the not avoidable overheating message when switching to 4k60, thats a bummer and 4 seconds wasted, thats literally worse than the Panasonic GH6 and how long it takes to start the recording. Probably, if not fixed via software a reason to avoid it lol.
That's my next comparison.
Have you tried cinematch? I'm getting pretty natural but more pleasing results going from slog3 to gh5s colour using their software fixes a lot of the bizarre colors you get some times.

I'm gonna start off by saying "Leopards of Saturn" is one of the nicest, smartest, and most relaxing pieces of music I've heard in a long time!! I literally listen everyday!! 2nd, I think the R6II will be my 1st FF camera and the R7 will be my upgrade to my now M6II which I looooove btw!! It really is the one I shoot all my vlogs with!!

I got the R6 II in December and it's just amazing; easily the best camera in its class (followed by the A7IV, then the R6, then the S5 II... nobody has time for cropped high speed modes in 2023). The 4K60 is the sharpest 4k60 of any mirrorless and much sharper than the 4k120 of the A7SIII. I don't believe oversampled 4K60 exists on any other mirrorless cam AFAIK.
I'm also shocked at how relatively easy it is to edit 4k60 10 bit Clog3 footage on my 7 year old 27" iMac. UA-camrs had me believing I needed a new M1 Mac to run this but it's totally doable (in Resolve Studio).
Here I know you are reviewing the "system" and not just the camera. But the camera on its own is definitely the class leader.

GH6 has even oversampled 4K120fps. Both Lumix and Fujifilm brand cameras have oversampled 4K60fps, GH5 II and GH5 had as well. Same a lot of Fujifilms.
And - in the Canon lineup - a lot of cameras, not only R6 mark II, but - R6, R5C, R3. R5 has oversampled 4K60fps in APSC mode, not full frame, but you can use speed booster, actually R5 can even output 5.1K 60 FPS to Atomos Ninja V+. I'm pretty sure Nikon Z9 do oversampling 4K60fps as too.
Sony A7SIII has oversampling in this mode as well, from 4.2K to UHD. In Sony A1 there is some option with external recorder to achieve oversampling in 60fps (internal line-skipped only, but still there is an option). I'm not sure about Sony A7RV.
But - there are actually plenty of mirrorless cameras which can do oversampling in 4K60fps, starting with super cheap Lumix G9 (can do it too!).
Had the r6ii and sold it. Honestly overrated and overpriced camera
I used to use pp11 and never noticed the sky getting the colors you are, maybe I need to go back through my old footage. I may have prematurely congratulated myself for getting it right straight out of camera. Not even kidding

Great comparison! The R6 II colour science is worse, the extra yellow/green gives a jaundice look to skin tones, and a 'forever golden hour' vibe to outdoors shots.
Plus the very noisy shadows and lower 1080p quality points to line skipping again

All Sony were more pleasing to me and I am a Canon relic. I’m drinking from a Canon mug as I write this comment. Purple sky is a fair trade off for Sony imagery. You do beautiful work with both systems.

Sony color science is the best. I dont want fake canon colors jeopardizing the integrity of my shot. If im going to over saturate, ill do it myself in post. I want my out of camera images to be the most genuine possible. Even if that means theyre not always the most flattering on humans.

4k120 from A7s3 is top of the class at the moment. Canon has only caught up to 4k60. Unless we count R5c but that thing has lots own problem for Kasey's use case. Lens wise 100-500 is the better lens.
What are you yammering about. The R5 came out with 4K120 before the A7SIII and the R6 II is the only mirrorless with oversampled 4K60 right now... it has the sharpest 4K60 out there.
@@77dris R5 4k120 is the single most unusable feature in its many limited functions. Typical Australian summer day outside under the sun, 5min before you feel the heat, the camera overheat s first. After that even 4k HQ is limited until the whole system cools down to normal temperature. Stop listening to youtubers live in Canada tell you new firmware fixed the R5 overheating issue. It has not

What transform lut do you use for the Sony? Maybe a different lut is better, like the phantom luts.?

I think I’d rather use apsc crop on canon with non-alien colors to compensate for the 100mm loss on the long end
In most blind tests, people always prefer Sony colours, confirmation bias is a bad thing mate, you might want to get that checked on by an otoscopies
I would rather just buy the 60-600mm sigma and use the cheap rf adapter.
@@hy7968 the 60-600 is a thick, heavy boy. Also its stabilizer is horrendous, worst stabilizer i ever saw on any tele lens, and my 150-600C isnt much better.
Hell, even my 150-600C is "too heavy" for hikes and i prefer the RF 800 F11 which is really a lightweight charme.
@@harrison00xXx maybe you have a faulty unit. The stabiliser actually seems to perform the same if not better than the canon lenses.
