its year passed since this video released on youtube and currently used price of EosR is around 1000USD. I think its depend on what you want from your canon Rs. In my situation i have my dedicated video camera (BMPCC4K and osmo pocket3) so all i needed was just camera can use my old EF lenses with better focus accuracy with mechanical shutter!!! So i changed my R8 into R lately (Sold out my R8 around 1100USD and get R with 1000USD) and now im very much satisfied.

Canon eosR with magic lantern could have been a great camera. There's UA-cam videos with the first software where they remove the crop, the sensor is the same as the 5d iv and the CPU is better. The connectivity with the smartphone exclusively for Apple phones it's a nice move pair with no longer usb connection you forced to drain your battery using WiFi....
Seams like Canon doesn't have the Ibis ready when everyone else is releasing mirrorless. So they "remake" the 5d with evf and the new mount. Then remove a lot of features intentionally for the eosR cause they have a lot of 5d to sell for 4.500$ or more.
A metabones and Atmos ninja to fully utilize the eosR video potential... Canon could give a update removing the crop, allowing to use usb-c to move info into any smartphone or m.2 SSD to be able to get all sensor info in raw Mbps/s are limited cause the SD speeds... The list goes on and on. It's just frustrating how many doors Canon intentionally close, they bring the printer policy to cameras.

@@krejn It seems hard cause Canon wants, did you think is hard moving raw images to a none Apple phone working stable? Developing the app and sending the info by Wifi or Bluetooth takes the same time.
Forcing you move your data not using the usb by any means it's coincidental? Like the Apple magic mouse either you use it or charge it or sharing lan connection between macbooks and smartphones, cables make us feel cheap. Now Canon will start providing same service adding that a specific brand of phones is choosed. 1 that doesn't have SD for expansion and ask you the same from a smartphone with decent memory than a new Canon RF lens.
So I don't know how much is Apple paying to Canon for this. But I'm done with Canon products. At the same time the things with printers start to been on the news for how bad it was....
If you want ML put pressure on Canon or just wait to the eos r1, It's hard to believe that for exclusively professional job most of the cameras been from a news agency.... I don't think they have balls to loose potential clients that gona spend that much.
Nomination for greatest slow motion test known to man at 12:40, LOL. Dramatic profile rocks. Need to keep it on permanently. They both seem plenty good enough for me but prefer the R. The R6ii cost is through the exosphere. Some of us budget photo hobo freaks are still trying to upgrade from the Panasonic GF1, LOL.
Oof. These camera prices. Still using 800D (AKA t7i). Serves me well enough. Wish 4K 60 wasn't so expensive. You'd think the same pricepoint 5 years later would get you 4K but nope, it is still several times higher cost. 800D will remain my go-to for YT and my phone for commercial work (iPhone with gimbal and lenses... village folk can't tell the difference anyway).
R6 II looks great to me. 4K60 no crop. 8 stops of stabe and no stupid touchbar. AF also a lot better in the R6 II than the EOS R (still lagging Sony by a tiny bit). Crazy quick readout on that new 24MP sensor as well with low rolling shutter. The R6 II is basically a flawless camera that will become one of the Canon classics. I'm a Sony guy and I even bought it. It's a better overall camera than the A7IV, which is saying something.
Bingo! You said it . I was going between the R6 and A7IV and researched for about a year on both. Then the R6 Mark II came out and it's definitely best in class as the A7IV's cropped 4K and bad body/LCD drops it down. The S5 II isn't really in the same league as it's essentially a cropped camera as all of its high speed modes, even in 1080 are cropped and crippled in some way. DSLR Videoshooter did a great video on the S5 II and was one of the first to mention these shortcomings as well as some real bad AF issues that nobody wants to mention for some reason.
It’s the lens selection, unusable ibis in video, horrible white balance tool, micro hdmi, average battery life, and poor raw image quality that really holds this camera back. Now that the Panasonic s5 ii is out I don’t think there is any reason to pick up an r6 ii. The Panasonic is better in virtually every way other than slightly slower sensor readout.
I shoot Sony, Canon and Panasonic. The Comments on the S5ii / R6 II / A7IV are hilarious.

I used the R6 II in a Wedding and although there is no crop… I would never used it without a Gimbal or Tripod. S5 II I would walk with but has crop yet with 6K Open Gate 😮 Let’s Go Pany…. And lastly I got 22 minutes of video from the A7IV before overheating 😢.
My point is get the one you will fall in love with it…and it will inspire your creativity…because it’s part of your tribe and stop flirting with the competition.

I use both camera's for events and portraits. Night and day the R6 ii is better. Even with less megapixels, the R6 ii is sharper. better battery, faster autofocus and more accurate.
2 bad things with the R6 ii, the start up is slower that the R and the 4k60 warning.
Why there even a question which camera better ?
I see a problem with color grading in most clips. But I also see you're having a lot of fun with your new gear. Yeah, c-log is sometimes hard to color in. The point about the menus is a much bigger issue with the R6. You almost have to live inside this camera to get the results you are expecting. I use a lot of different tools in my work and just trying to remember which fekking setting, which cryptically marked button, which lens-crop-format-frame-rate-AF setting lives where took the fun out and replaced it with trepidation. Scene happening in front of me, me fiddleing with dials, shows over. I grew to loathe the R6. A true genius with multiple personality disorder. Always promising to do great work and then turning up with unusable footage or missed shot because "it was my fault". The menu system needs to be re-designed from the ground up. Its not even finger friendly. It doesnt cut it for high end film situations. Its DOS.
I ended the abusive relationship. I miss its photos.

I understand why, but I don't get why people still hate the R's touchbar. It's the best and most powerful feature I've had on a camera and I wouldn't trade for anything. It's worked flawlessly since the day I got it and saved me countless times. On the other hand, I think joysticks are stupid. 😆
Kasey, you mentioned there was very little in a way of video tests of the X-H2s using firmware 3.0 for wildlife. I also have not been able to find any tests on-line. It is seems that most are using the the X-H2S for photography--lots of tests. In any case, I have an X-H2S using firmware 3.0 and an XF 70-300 with a 1.4X teleconverter. Here is my preliminary 60 FPS test of a mourning dove in a tree with lots if grey branches behind the bird. I was using bird detect autofocus. Of the 8 clips that I shot, 7 clips were in perfect focus. One clip was out out of focus.
I also tried at 4 clips at 120 FPS. Of the three clips of mourning doves in front of denuded branches all three were in focus. I also tried a grackle with the same branches behind the bird. Because there was much more contrast between the bird and the branches, I expected a perfect result. It was disappointing to find that camera did a lot of focus hunting.
My impression is that firmware 3.0 did make some improvement. But with this release of firmware 3.0 FujiFilm still has a way to go to make autofocus Sony/Canon level.
I'm legit in this predicament. Got 2 r's and thinking of upgrading both to the R6 II.

The 1080P is line skipped on R6mii, that sucks. I thought one of the good points of the R6M1 was the strong 1080P. The 1080P on the r6M1 is underrated and Likely far better then the C100Mii. Mind you there is some colour banding in 1080P meaning it could be line skipped?, but I think its stellar

Sure the R is a fantastic camera if you can get it for a good deal in 2023, but sporting the 5dmkiv sensor, horrendous touch pad, no scroll wheel on the back and a 4k crop, it easily gets beaten by the r6 from 2020 which has the 1dxmkiii sensor, and is overall just a better camera in every way, basically an RmkII if you will. Yes, the removal of the top screen is a bit of a shite move by canon, but that's just the r6, and the r6II is a big step up over the 6 so I don't think you can even compare the R and R6II

I just saw the strangest ad during this video. syncbot. It was hard to tell if they preferred the EOS R or the R6 ll.
The only complaint i have about the eos r is the lack of autofocus in 120p. How hard would it be to upgrade the software to support 120p autofocus when it's 720 frames per second.
I shoot pics with the Eos R in +0- HDR using my Automatic color science with my own adjustments and the Jpeg images that come out are simply amazing with enough information for adjustments in Lightroom !!!!!!

I did not want to like this camera… I had a chance to use one and many sleepless nights later, I bought one. I like it, I like it very much. The on/off switch was a little strange at first but I find that new muscle memory has taken over. I am now a Canon R6 Mark II user… I’m going to need a minute to get over that sentence.

Picked up my R6mkii after having the eosr for 3 years and I absolutely love it. Almost went to Sony for the A74 but I had the lenses and the R62 fit the bill 👍
I bought the R6IV and its a lot better, kind of like crypto, it just keeps on giving, everyday.
Yup, I had the EOS R for a similar amount of time and I've added the R6ii so I can use a two cam set up. I just need to get the 70-200 RF Lens and my set up is complete (for now...) 😅

Just came across your page a few days ago and had to subscribe. Love the content delivery and use of the real world scenarios. Too many videos only talk about specs! I'm an audio engineer and photographer getting into videography. I mainly want to shoot music videos and short films but I also get requests for vlogs and podcast work. I currently own a 5D MK II (not ideal for video I know but its been getting the job done) looking to get something more recent/portable for video purposes. I've been between the R8, R6 and R6 II. R5/R5C sound amazing but way out of my price point. One of my friends owns the A7SIII so I get to use that when working with her. Love the camera but can't afford to leave the Canon ecosystem. Besides the ergonomic changes would you say functionality between the R8 and R6II is roughly the same?

14:22 seems like Canon and Panasonic had a meeting about how everything would be manual in their previous budget full frames, until 2023... We need a S5 II vs R6 II
S5 II is basically a cropped camera at this point. While the R6 II leads the industry with oversampled 4K60, the S5 II has cropped and crippled all of its high speed modes, even in 1080. That along with terrible rolling shutter while the R6 II has the best rolling shutter of any full frame non stacked sensor camera out there.
Tyler Stalman had an interview recently with Jordan Drake, and he was complaining over and over about C-Log3. He was saying that is a "barely log" and it's like a "flattened rec709/standard profile"...
I am so used to hearing a camera is "a piece of shit", that hearing "it's okay", next to Canon's name, makes me check if I'm on the right channel 🤪

As somebody who owned the EOS R for nearly a year and has now owned the R6 Mark II for 2 months, I can say definitively the R6 II is a much better camera in every way.
Even when it comes to resolution, the R6 II images scaled up are sharper and more detailed (weaker AA filter I suppose).
The EOS R was cheap and that's about all it had going for it. The 5D IV was actually a better camera (better IQ).
Is the R6 mk2 better in low light as well?
@@pauls6043most likely, 30mp vs 24mp. 24mp has less pixel dense sensor which means less noise so yeah, its most likely better.

You never did the g100. I know you laugh at it, but get a 12-35 f2.8. It can AF in all modes in 120fps, and has PASM exposure options. Also note there is a slow and quick mode on the dial.
Maybe it isn't exactly the perfect camera. It certainly would be if it was a touch bigger to house IBIS, and have PDAF on the second version.
Make sure Panasonic keeps the PASM options, as well as PDAF for slow motion. Your influence could help! Plus the g100 is dirt cheap.
The menu system is also super simplified, and slightly different the the normal Panasonic menus.
How did you count the "potential"? Line-skipped means it used every second line. That is half of the 3375 lines used for 16:9 crop. That is 1687 lines. However you would count, if the image is line-skipped it is usually half the "potential".
6k sensor for photos. Only using 2k resolution for 1080p and line skipping it to 1k.

Great video! I love the tests you did. It really shows how capable the EOS R still is in the right hands... I've had one since 2019 and recently got the RF 24-70 F2.8L IS USM! I will eventually upgrade when the time is right. The color science in the R6 MK2 is sad... the green tint reminds me of Sony's color science. I mainly shoot industrial laser material processing machines and the 4k crop actually helps me punch in further into a machine I'm filming. I also do fashion e-commerce photography and street portraits on the weekends as a side hustle.
I vlog with canon RP and EF 24mm 2.8 no IS and digital stabe only. I was convinced I needed to upgrade my shaky hobo life, but in this video you mention digital only is not so bad (no warpy corners). Should I upgrade, and if so EF 24mm 2.8 IS ($450 CAD) or RF 24mm 1.8 ($750 CAD)?
I Will also add the benifit to EF is the USM motor is faster than STM. My EF 24mm USM autofocus is much faster than my RF 35mm STM. Con is USM is also much noisier and gets picked up on shotgun mic.
Big mistake at 12:51. When you put a stabilized lens on an RF body with IBIS, IBIS is only enabled by turning on lens stabilization. With lens stabilization off, only digital stabilization is available in the menu. I do sometimes wish I could use either lens stab or IBIS independently, but it's impossible on a Canon. If the lens has no stabilization at all, you can turn on IBIS via the menu.
I don't have lens stabe in the 24mm T1.4. Canon changed their stabilization menu. Instead of turning on EIS or Enhanced EIS from the touchscreen, it turns the actual IBIS on/off. You now have to press info to get to the EIS. So I thought I was turning off EIS, but that turned off IBIS altogether.

The color science of c log on the r is a bit dead and flat to me, kinda like that the c log 3 looks a bit more colorful (sorta like fuji color science)
Canon has amazing battery life so on battery saver, you don’t even need to turn it off at all.
Did you double your shutter speed and iso for the 120 fps? Feels jittery in those segments 11:49 etc Also, the need to over expose clog3 by about 2 stops is really obvious around 15:43 etc Took me a while to understand that one. People: "we want to recover more shadows" Canon: "jim, i think we should push this clog3 thing but only allow it to be really good at recovering highlights!" Anyway...I just slap a variable nd on it in daylight, set iso to auto, and rock on

I don't understand how old Canon R has superior 1080p than anything newer from Canon! If you make videos for UA-cam, you don't need 4k but now you have to use it as 1080p is too soft and IPB instead of all-i.
You do need 4K for UA-cam, not 1080p. Some people will even record in 1080p and upscale. This is because 4K gets a much higher bitrate, preventing the colors from being crushed as much as they do with 1080p video.
When will canon and sony have open gate?
In full frame cameras Canon IBIS is only second to Panasonic. It's better than Sony / Nikon.

hi Kasey, it seems obvious that the r6ii is for photographers, a stills camera with some low end video capability.. at least by todays standards. the eos r was and still is a very nice camera, allbeit from a hundred years ago. great comparison, i like your music too.
