There's something really charming about the Barbie table and tea set being the perfect size for the military men.
If she had a toddler that table would be lethal
The teapot and cups on the Barbie table, with army men around, sort of reminds me of the tale of that incredible lady, Countess Constance Markievicz who, during the 'Troubles' held some young soldiers hostage. Whilst I would never agree or even condone with her, or anyone else holding firearms, she was was actually thanked by the same soldiers for the comfort that she had held them in and for the spread of tea, cakes and sandwhiches that they were given.
reminds me a little of the monthy python sketch when they play french soldiers in a trench, opening wine and eat garlic bread and some french food..

After a long day of crawling through mud, stepping on land mines and committing war crimes, they can all come home and have a nice warm cup of tea together with the Barbie tea set :)

It just dawned on me that there is absolutely no clothing for Barbie so far, with the exception of the mermaid tail.
And jewellery.
Oh right?! That would have been so cheap and yet much more fun.
Instead they put literally any crap that didn't sell into the box and claim it's Barbie stuff.

Those glasses make the tree lights look really impressive. I think I need a pair for everyone who comes to my house since my lights are abysmal this year.
The displays at the fair ground have pairs you can get and they do make the stands of lights look super cool.

Here 'zerlegt' can be interpreted as 'take apart', as well as 'blow up'. Basically a fun German word play :)

Those kaleidoscope glasses were pretty popular in the US in the early 2000s. I remember they used to sell them for fireworks viewing around Independence Day

I honestly think it would be a lot less bad without the stickers. They add absolutely nothing, aren't relevant to the show and don't even fit anywhere on the calendar. Would have been better if they were just more flaps, perhaps with framed pictures of famous scenes from the show.
Still bad, but at least it would make sense as a diorama.
if they just advertised it as a diorama display advent and filled it with stuff for the diorama, it would at least be understandable, but still overpriced.
Depends on lots of factors.
People have a massively distorted idea of what things cost today, from a world with horrific levels of near slave labour in countries that already have staggering production scales before taking that into account, then lack of safety to care about and all the other countless things.
The army calendar is a good example. You aren't producing that at the same quality for the same things in a developed country with good pay and all the rest for less than coming up to 3 digits probably.
The Only Fools one is made by a small UK company, that appears to produce in the UK, and has extensive green policies etc. After licencing, pay, UK based rents/taxes/power costs etc what you are looking worryingly might not even that crazy.
Or they are lying, and they do produce somewhere else and are just greedy.
I work in a high school and all the students love the diffraction glasses whether they're 11 or 18. For the seniors it's actually a nice demonstration of quantum mechanics - if you look at an LED or gas discharge tube you can see the individual emission lines instead of a smooth spectrum of light.
That's also why UA-camrs have to be careful what LEDs they purchase, as some white LEDs don't have much in the red side of the spectrum, so people look very pale and sickly.

In our county, one of the major parks has a huge Christmas lights show you drive through nightly from Thanksgiving night until Christmas. They sell these for $2 each at the gate and it makes you feel like you’re going through hyperspace in a Christmas themed SciFi universe.
Wearing those while driving would be potentially fatal, but interesting.

What about when you're specifically told you won't be seeing any in that Advent calendar?
I'm surprised they've never seen those kinds of glasses before- I remember seeing them a lot alongside the typical christmas lights, usually with designs in them! If you looked at very small bright lights (like holiday lights on a string) they would become a shape like a snowflake or a tree! It technically did it to all light but just showed up best on those- like you see the splitting best on the tree lights in the video! IDK if there's a proper name for them, I remember thinking they were magic as a kid and amazed they werent sold everywhere

To be fair about the Barbie calendar. Its the same quality of what a young girl would get back in the 90s. I remember my sister had some "girl toys" and they always had a doll of that size and some accessories with some stuff that where weirdly off scale.
In other words, "to be fair to the Barbie calendar, it's 30 years out of date"
Same thing while I was growing up in the 2000s. It's a Barbie tradition!

@@CaptNSquared I was gonna also point out how overpriced it is, but after looking up Barbie toys on online retailers to make sure I wasn't talking out my ass, I have come away having no idea how much a barbie is supposed to cost.
The ones based on the movie (that are much higher quality than this) are like $25 (on discount from like $60???) and the ones that are just like, Barbie's friends are like, $6 and the rest are anywhere in-between. (Admittedly you can't escape third party resellers who mark everything up 300% anywhere these days)
So £25 is pretty overpriced but fuck it, clearly its a wild west out there.

I have some glasses a bit like those, one pair makes all the lights look like reindeer, another pair turns the lights into gingerbread men. And if you move your head, it looks like the gingerbread men are all dancing in unison. Trippy

Canadian currency post-2011 has that light-splitting lens built in as a form of counterfeit protection. What’s cooler is each bill splits the light into a circle made of the dollar amount repeated a few times.
So far I think the prizes I like the most from the calendars this year are the dragon from the Barbie calendar, because I like the look of the clear, glittery plastic it's made from, and the dog in the toy soldier calendar, because I just really like dogs in general.
I feel like the stock footage people at the end are just giving us Dan's mental state as he continues to fail to win.
I rember as a kid I got a similar pair of thoes glasses except it turned all the individual lights into little snowmen :)
Back in the 90s, I had a car windscreen that did what those glasses do. It wasn't nearly as much fun with streetlights at night, I'll tell you.
Looking back, that was really dangerous and i should have replaced it. What a dumb teen, i was.
I am amazed that the tree ( which has just the facing side lit... yes we noticed ) is still standing ! Those glasses are giving me 1970's Top Of The Pops vibes ! I have some shades that do the exact same effect that I love, you just don't want to try walking anywhere whilst wearing them ! :)
I've actually had a few pairs of diffraction glasses like what Stuart's got, the best pair I've seen was given to me at legoland for a fireworks show and they made all the fireworks look like lego bricks. Best firework show ever.

I'm amazed you guys have never come across the rainbow glasses before. We had them in the UK in the 1990s. They sold them in plastic visor frames. We called them Geordi visors.
Here in the states we sold them during the fourth of July I called them fireworks glasses.

Proper versions of those glasses were available from museums in the UK in the 1990s. I had a pair that also had the advantage of making the wearer look like Geordie La Forge from Star Trek.

As an American (and this may seem odd) I have seen those glasses as a product before they sell them around the 4th of July for watching fireworks. They actually are pretty fun for that.
I feel like at some point Ashens had some of those light-effect glasses that turned normal lights into reindeer or snowflakes or something... maybe in a Christmas special? Time to binge-watch the last ten years of specials!

Day 22 is the best day of this year's series simply because our military men get to have their tea and the viewers get to experience their favorite duo on LSD.
I've seen similar glasses like those that make lights into shapes like candy canes. They are really cool at first but not so much after a few minutes.

I am 45 years old and we used to get those glasses when I was a kid to look at Christmas tree lights. I grew up in Canada also used them alot in the 90's at raves. you can even get some that make shapes with lights.
