“Bleed for the dancer” meaning has eluded people for decades. There are many interpretations. On one hand, you are the dancer. You are the one that puts in the work to make your life heaven or not put in the work to make your life hell. You got to bleed for your success. On another hand the dancer can mean the arts. Ronnie in many interviews considered this song to be his best song writing works. In regards to Brad wondering what "No One Bleeds for the Dancer" means; RJD stated No One Bleeds for the Dancer was directed at up and coming artists, to encourage them to pursue their dreams and not be deterred by whatever powers that be. In that context , I think of the dancer as perhaps a metaphor for the arts, how nobody advocates for the arts nearly as strongly as say, politics and power. The world is full of Kings and Queens, who'll blind your eyes and steal your dreams. 2 thumbs up reaction!!
My interpretation is that people do not care for the ones doing or performing or making anything, they do care about the results (the arts, the goods, the achievements) and they would die for it, but not for the person that makes these things possible.
Wow thank you for explaining that..that's DIO all the way..reminds me KILL THE KING..he hates power ..in people in power..he likes power into the individual
Haha, great song, love your reactions! I was lucky to see them perform the Heaven and Hell album and Dio was an amazing front man and singer. Sabbath sounded just like the CD live in concert, truly legends!
Thank y'all for hitting this one. It's one of the best songs on my favorite Sabbath album. I recommend "Neon Knights" and "Children of the Sea" as well.
Great song and overall a great record! Dio coming to Sabbath injected new life and vitality into the band. And the best thing for Ozzy too as his solo career reinvigorated his creative juices and he went on to greater commercial success than Sabbath had. My favorite from this record is Neon Knights!
'Heaven and Hell' is an all time classic and can't be played enough. Thank you for the reaction! Also, check Black Sabbath's 'When Death Calls' from Headless Cross; an amazing song and there should be more reactions to it.
One of my fave all time songs, Dio said the best he'd ever written. Was lucky to see Dio live sing this twice with Black Sabbath. Fantastic reaction so happy to see Brad really enjoy it!
One of the finest pieces of composition ever put to vinyl. It uses both space and density with equal finesse. It evolves, it changes, it takes you on a journey, yet at no point do you ever wonder whether you're still in the same song or not. The musicianship and (underated) the production/recording/mixing quality is top-notch.
While I love this whole album, one of my favorites on it that doesn't get as much attention is a song called " Walk Away". Great showcase of each of the artists in the band. Really strong groove in it.
My initial reaction was the act of “bleeding” for something meant to sacrifice for it. “Love can be SEEN as the answer.” We’ve always heard “all you need is love” “love thy neighbor” but the world is still a mess. Nothing good in life is free (in spite of what our leaders may say). Every decision has a sacrifice attached. Good or bad (or heaven and hell)
You've got to bleed for the dancer to me is about feeling for those that feel life that aren't just going through the motions, but embrace the beauty, the art of life...you've got to bleed for the dancer. It's like a mantra
It's so fun watching how the two of you process what you're hearing. You can see the wheels turning in Brad's head as he analyzes the lyrics and tries to understand the message. Lex just gets lost in the sound and feels the music. I love it!
Back when all this music was coming out all the parents were screaming we were Devil worshiping, when really it was deep thinking music with a heavier sound. it really makes you think on good and evil, rage against the machine(government). these musicians were telling us what was going on in a world we were just going into as teenagers to young adults.
My interpretation, since first time i hear it, never changed and i really like it so i would share it with you :) Dancer bleeds trying to achieve perfection, and typical person only see result of that hard work (she bleeds for you, you don't bleed for her). You love as an answer but are not willing to bleed for others. Basically doing more than you want to make place better.
“Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer” Is a line that has been pondered since the song came out. I’ve heard a lot of different interpretations of it. I think the dancer is any artist and bleeding for is understanding the hard work and training they put into their craft. I of course could be way off.
I agree. "The Dancer" represents all artists, and "nobody bleeds for the dancer" is saying that artists are way down on the totem pole in society. The money makers and politicians are more important to those in charge.
Dio always preferred to leave his lyrics open to interpretation but he did drop hints throughout the years of where inspiration for different songs came from. Sometimes like with this line you wish he would explain his thinking in a little more detail.
@@evilfantasy69 Yeah, I wouldn't overthink it. I'm sure most of us have heard the expression, "the dance of life" or something similar, and I think it safe to say, keeping with that analogy, that we are all dancers.
@@supertrexandroidx 'The Dance' by Garth Brooks is another example - "I could have missed the pain, but I'd had to miss the dance" The song sounds like he is talking about his feelings during a literal dance but he is actually talking about the entire relationship from beginning to end.
I am personally of the mind that the dancer means all the beautiful and meaningful things in life which we should love (that is the answer) but that nobody bleeds for the dancer means that people are not willing to fight for those things, thus them saying that love is the answer is meaningless

As great as this album is, I think the "Mob Rules" album is even better... The songs Mob Rules, Sign of the Southern Cross, and Country Girl are some of Ronnie James Dio at his best...Check it out, you might just like it...
Fun fact: Ronnie James Dio invented what’s now known as the Devil Horns. He took it from his grandmother who would show the maloyk to people (giving someone the evil eye and protection from the evil eye)
That’s not true. It came from Coven. They came before Black Sabbath, wrote a song called Black Sabbath and had a bass player named Oz Osborne. They’re doing the devil horns on the cover of their first album “Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls”. A few years later, Black Sabbath comes out in England and music critics refer to them as England’s version of Coven.
Man when I saw y'all's 1st reaction to Dio and lex said she did like it my heart hurt, but NOW they get it and it warms my heart to see a new appreciation for the late great Ronnie James Dio... RIP DIO...

As much as I adore Dio and his epic voice Sabbath will always be Ozzy for me and in his era metal was just being formed. It was rougher and darker then to my mind and will never be beat the riffage was supreme.

My introduction to Black Sabbath and Ronnie James, was about in 3rd grade.
Such an amazing singer - one of the best if not the best metal singer! I saw him live in 2004 in a crowded small club in Karlsruhe, Germany.
That's a bunch of shit , Dios lying
This has nothing to do with coming artists, are you crazy, listen you dummy
My interpretation is that people do not care for the ones doing or performing or making anything, they do care about the results (the arts, the goods, the achievements) and they would die for it, but not for the person that makes these things possible.
"Dancer" means "angel" (associated with heaven). So love can be seen as the answer, but no one [is willing to sacrifice for what is good.]
Let's Go!
Holy crap...thought it would never happen! Glad you reacted to this amazing song and enjoyed it! RJD said that this was his masterpiece.
Great song and overall a great record! Dio coming to Sabbath injected new life and vitality into the band. And the best thing for Ozzy too as his solo career reinvigorated his creative juices and he went on to greater commercial success than Sabbath had.
My favorite from this record is Neon Knights!
Lex just ... gets it .. feels it. Natural Born Rocker if ever is saw one
'Heaven and Hell' is an all time classic and can't be played enough. Thank you for the reaction!
Also, check Black Sabbath's 'When Death Calls' from Headless Cross; an amazing song and there should be more reactions to it.
Dio was great with Sabbath, brings many memories
Dio had one of the best voices
in Rock/ Metal EVER!!
One of my fave all time songs, Dio said the best he'd ever written. Was lucky to see Dio live sing this twice with Black Sabbath. Fantastic reaction so happy to see Brad really enjoy it!
Nice to see Brad smiling to this song
One of the finest pieces of composition ever put to vinyl. It uses both space and density with equal finesse. It evolves, it changes, it takes you on a journey, yet at no point do you ever wonder whether you're still in the same song or not. The musicianship and (underated) the production/recording/mixing quality is top-notch.
My favorite Song of all times... 🤘
... my alarm clock ringingtone since over 20 years 😎
Nice🤘
This song has some of the most profound lyrics ever in a song
While I love this whole album, one of my favorites on it that doesn't get as much attention is a song called " Walk Away". Great showcase of each of the artists in the band. Really strong groove in it.
seen them in cleveland Heaven and Hell. I fucking loved it!!
Try DIO in Rainbow "Man on the silver mountain ".
It's so fun watching how the two of you process what you're hearing. You can see the wheels turning in Brad's head as he analyzes the lyrics and tries to understand the message. Lex just gets lost in the sound and feels the music. I love it!
The entire Heaven and hell album is amazing!
Was lucky enough to see this performed, at the Birmingham NEC when Black Sabbath reformed with RJD in the 90's. It was unbelievable live!
Back when all this music was coming out all the parents were screaming we were Devil worshiping, when really it was deep thinking music with a heavier sound. it really makes you think on good and evil, rage against the machine(government). these musicians were telling us what was going on in a world we were just going into as teenagers to young adults.
Pink Floyd spoke all about today's world. True back then too. Welcome to the machine.
My interpretation, since first time i hear it, never changed and i really like it so i would share it with you :)
Dancer bleeds trying to achieve perfection, and typical person only see result of that hard work (she bleeds for you, you don't bleed for her). You love as an answer but are not willing to bleed for others. Basically doing more than you want to make place better.
“Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer”
Is a line that has been pondered since the song came out.
@@supertrexandroidx 'The Dance' by Garth Brooks is another example - "I could have missed the pain, but I'd had to miss the dance"
The song sounds like he is talking about his feelings during a literal dance but he is actually talking about the entire relationship from beginning to end.
I am personally of the mind that the dancer means all the beautiful and meaningful things in life which we should love (that is the answer) but that nobody bleeds for the dancer means that people are not willing to fight for those things, thus them saying that love is the answer is meaningless
As an old school metal head my 3 favorite bands were Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath & Rainbow fronted by Dio. I consider this album in its entirety to be one of the best Metal albums ever and I literally own thousands of albums. Love the Zep rep. Keep on doing what you are doing! Blessings.
As great as this album is, I think the "Mob Rules" album is even better... The songs Mob Rules, Sign of the Southern Cross, and Country Girl are some of Ronnie James Dio at his best...Check it out, you might just like it...
Couldn't agree more
Lex, thanks for the playlist suggestion. I’ll use those 3 songs to start one right now. Awesome!
This is one of my all time favorites! I am so happy you guys both enjoyed it!
Please try "cradle of filth - her ghost in the fog" - but with the video, the video adds to the song, perhaps get the lyrics on screen to follow it.
Bleed for the dancer is one of Ronnie's most enigmatic lyrics/riddles he left us with.
You should listen to "I" by Black Sabbath w/ Dio.
YES! Another of my fave Sabbath tunes!
The dancer is someone who chases you. They dance for you. Someone who really wants you
Fun fact: Ronnie James Dio invented what’s now known as the Devil Horns. He took it from his grandmother who would show the maloyk to people (giving someone the evil eye and protection from the evil eye)
Dumb 💩 Gene thinks he invented it and even tried to own the rights to it, but he owns the rights to the money bag in Monopoly
RIP DIO...
Try Stargazer guys!
I believe "the Dancer" is the common person. Who must "dance" though life just to make it. While all the wars and big social battles are waged for elites, by the common folk.
Hi! No disrespect to Ozzy, but THIS album is my absolute favourite Black Sabbath album! Enjoy! 🤘🏻🇨🇦
Mine too
Headless Cross is very good too.
and Mob Rules…
Dio's era was the best one... Black Sabbath just...powerful! 🤘🏻
i was 13 years old when i bot this album. still one of my favorites. RIP Ronnie. my favorite songs on the record are this one and "Neon Knights" and "Die Young".
ie young is a guitar virtuoso masterpiece lex would love it.
Brad is a deep and contemplative dude. This is one of the few songs I have seen him enjoy.
I saw Black Sabbath with Ozzy and with Dio. Dio is a much better singer but both shows were great.
Dio is better, but he is no Ozzy.
You guys gotta hit Black Sabbath "Mob Rules" Which incidentally is in the movie soundtrack for "Heavy Metal" I've been telling you guys to checkout. Anyways the live version of this is so much better. The CD is called Black Sabbath "Live Evil".
Great Period in Black Sabbath History when DIO was in the Band .. 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Saw DIO's Last in Line tour..probably the best all around rock concert I've ever been to..Was fortunate to have gotten to know One of his closest/best friends from a young age Peter Restey..RIP brother..He was there when they recorded Heaven and Hell album..Peter ended up being a legendary behind the scenes stage presence for many famous/top notch bands..Anyway got to hear a lot of cool stories of them in studio and on the road..DIO also did a couple of songs with the songwriting legend Kerry Livgren of the band Kansas..Was chatting with Kerry briefly about working with DIO ..They got along great..Anyway love the reaction!! Had to subscribe!!
"Bleed for the Dancer" always meant to me, feel for the people out there compromising their selves and doing whatever needs to be done to survive. The girl on the pole because she needs to eat.
I can agree with that....🍺🤘🏼
Black Sabbath are the gods of heavy metal.
OZZY split from the Band and Ronnie was the best thing that happened for Heavy Metal in a long long time, what a fricken fantastic album
Ozzy was kicked out of the band.
That bassline that comes in around 7:00 is just incredible. What an epic track.
I saw this show in Philly. And I got to see him solo. Dio is with out a doubt one of the best voices in music history. Just my opinion
Not just yours. Dio is a legend.
My father had every Black Sabbath Album. He had every rock album in existence. I'd sit on the floor and flip through each record cover and be mesmerized while he had them out doing his religious routine cleaning his albums/records. This I did in 70's & into the 80's before my parents divorce. AC DC, Styx, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Dio, Genesis, Motorhead, Boston, Foreigner, ZZTop, Journey, Rolling Stones, Iron Butterfly(love!), Frank Zappa, Thin Lizzy, Alan Parsons(love!), Beatles, Doors, Moody Blues, Lynrd Skynrd, Quiet Riot, Accept, Wasp, Anthrax, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Gary Numan, Peter Gabriel, Fastway, Also Nova (love!), Deep Purple, John Fogerty, Cheap Trick, Pat Benetar, Heart, Stevie Nicks, Grand Funk Railroad, Van Halen, Billy Squire, Loverboy, Scorpions(love!), Queen..on n on it goes. Name it, he had it! Love all really I do cuz mean much to me cuz major part of my life since I was a toddler!!
As much as I adore Dio and his epic voice Sabbath will always be Ozzy for me and in his era metal was just being formed. It was rougher and darker then to my mind and will never be beat the riffage was supreme.
Guys Dio was MAGICAL!!!! He was the greatest singer, and front man of metal ever. He was hypnotic!!!The " dancer" is the devil.
Tarot Woman with Rainbow. RJD at his really, really best. Intro to this song is one of the best intros on keybord ever made.
Vinny Appice, my favorite drummer. Years with BS and Ronnie solo. Carmine's little bro (Vanilla Fudge) and is a great addition on the drum kit later in BS - never enough credit.
He made a great work at Dehumanizer and The Devil you know.
Dio, Appice, Iommi and Butler, the most freaking mix ever
Loved watching you guys figure out and react to this masterpiece
Lex: Tony Iommi on the guitar is another of those heroes. He as a unique sound, cut of his fingertips in an accident but ignored the fact and continued to play guitar and is just simpkly a legend.
This whole record is AMAZING!!!!
I saw them at the Radio Music Hall and I lost my mind!!!
Love discovering gems like this one. thx Brad & Lex.
Ritchie Blackmore’s rainbow Mistreated live 1977 Germany probably Dio’s best vocal performance.
FACT!!
Bleed For The Dancer- Care about others that work hard and deserve recognition.
This entire album is a complete classic. Every song is great. One of the greatest metal albums ever, IMO.
Great reaction to this iconic song! The Heaven and Hell album by Black Sabbath is considered a masterpiece by many, including myself. Although I can't remember Dio directly saying this, my impression from countless interviews is that he held this album close to his heart. RIP RJD! 🤘
I got to see this group live in Lakeland Civic Center.....Mind Blowin,,,, this is one of the greats.....🍺🤘🏼
Check out Black Sabbath's Sign if the Southern Cross.
Believe me, you'll enjoy it.
Yes
Total banger. Awesome choice and great review! This whole album is killer.
