Thanks for putting this together! I'm a relatively new backer (joined during last year's IAE), so it's great to see the progression of the ship designs and how much progress CIG has made since the early days.
Watching these commercials with the old ship models takes me back to when the only thing we had was the hangar module, and all we could do was look at our ships and dream about flying them.
I remember those 2013 - 2014 commercials where we were all wide eyed and thought that by 2020 we'd have our second life in space... Now we're in 2022, almost 2023 and we only hope the next ship won't take 7 years to come out and maybe maybe something stable to play by 2030...
@@davedanter Many have been made, but more than half still haven't, and we've learned with the years that each new concept is at least a 3 - 4 years away, more for very large ships... So it's kinda disheartening... But we still hope. Must admit I'm not "hyped" anymore about the project, but I follow it, hoping for it to succeed and be able to make, one day, my own space opera one day in my Polaris!

They just recently realised they should pass their build through a script to see if it was viable? The excuse of ambition is wearimg really thin. The problem aren't the 10 first years. It's the 15 that are to come while still being only an alpha. Because we do know we'ren in for a good 10 - 15 more years in "alpha but it's so ambitious give them a break" phase.
Wish they kept that shape for anyone that bought the 300 series back then. Like cars, the year and model should persist. Wanna change to the new model, upgrade charge. 💸
The Hangar Module went live end of August 2013. That's when we were able to explore the first Ships in Game. Mid June 2014 Arena Commander was Released and we were able to Dogfight. End of January 2015 the PU was available for the first time to fly around Port Olisar. Mid December 2015 the playing field was extended to the Moons of Crusader with Version 2.0. The Current PU with walkable planets started to take form end of December 2017 with Version 3.0.
@@elfwyn8707 Remarkable, it really has come a long way. Hopefully if 3.18.0 is a smooth, successful patch, everything might move a little faster. There does seem to be a much higher level of stability these days. Fingers crossed. Thanks for that trip down your memory lane.
Starliner had an interactive Promo Website, but no comercial. The Concept model probaply never made it into engine in time for the sale back then. In engine concept models are more of a recent trend actually. It is very likely that the concept model from back then was painted over manually for the promotional pictures.
There's a lot of nostalgia in it for us, like remembering when the Freelancer was supposed to have VTOL engines and the Hornet was meta. The torture is seeing just how far the game has come and knowing just how much farther is has to go. We're still 6 years out, give or take. And by 6, I mean 6-15.
Nice commercials but the game sucks ! To get that lvl of action and playability as they show in with the MSR.....maybe RSI needs more trillions in their bank and also mabye hiring all the video games companies in the world to help SC.

In 2013 - 2014 early backers brought concepts........in 2022 a majority of those concepts still haven't been built, nothing beyond concept art?
