    I went away for a week and when I came home the water level was below the filter so in return my tank was not being filtered. I don’t know how long but my tank is now green. I bought some jungle pond algae relief but I am afraid to use it. I came across your video and I feel more comfortable using hydrogen peroxide than the other. I have a 25 gallon tank. How much would you recommend using and would I let it sit with the filter not running and the air off for fifteen minutes then turn everything back on and do a 50% water change? That’s what I am getting from the information here on UA-cam. Is that what I should do? I really hate adding chemicals to my tank but something needs to be done. Thank you for your time and help. Rhonda

    We used to use regular isopropyl alcohol for sanitizing our nets when I worked at a tropical fish hatchery . After soaking them we would then give them a decent water rinse and then set them out to dry overnight . You can also use kosher salt soak to treat nets and plants but with freshwater plants no longer than 2 minutes max and then a freshwater rinse but I wouldn't use it for mosses at all .

    Number Seven: Treating a snail infestation.
    Added to the water column, it can kill snails at levels that are safe for fish and plants.
    The first time I used it to treat algae, the recommendation I'd read was 3mL per gallon. I followed that recommendation and my fish and plants showed no signs of stress but it killed way over half of my Malaysian Trumpet Snails (I imagined the survivors were buried deepest in the sand substrate).

    Loved your vid but no details on amount x the tank dosing. I soaked a few plants y'day in 100% h2o2 for about 15 min. then rinsed thoroughly before putting back in tank (not roots or rhizomes). • @JHAquatics
      @JHAquatics  5 років тому

      Columnaris is a gram-negative Bacteria. I would treat it with E.M. Erythromycin, and salt. A daily salt bath of 5-10 mins and then returned to a medicated tank with E.M. Erythromycin. Please don't forget water changes and redosing every 4-5 days. That is just what I would do, but I'm not a veterinarian or doctor.

    • @theR6969
      @theR6969 5 років тому

      JH Aquatics, now you lost my confidence in you. Columnaris Is gram positive bacteria by most accounts and E. M. Erythromycin is useless to treat it .. Kanamycin, Neomycin are better treatments since they treat gram positive more effectively. I suggest you give your information a "once over" before you share it.

      I think 1ML per 10 gallons is for a stronger concentration than 3% 35% food grade is also a popular concentration to use and that one may be 1ML per 10 gallons, which is kind of scary because it gives you way less room for error.

      Salt can be used but with monitoring the parameters of the water and doing water changes as well. you should be using Aquarium Salt or marine salt as well. You should check out a video I have on salt. in my series on medications.

    I did and still they were acting up but when i put them on a plastic bag and gave a little shake to shake off the chemical then put them back, they turn out fine but i had 5 casualties out of 20-30

      Yes, you gave them gill burns. Sometimes it takes a while to suffocate from gill burn... you might have more casualties.

      many people might dose 1ml per gallon. I believe that will harm fish or kill fish. I always spot treat with a syringe and i have never treated my 29 gal with more than 10 ml with out a water change.

    Got to love H2O2! They make food grade H2O2 that doesnt have the stablilizers in it. I have gone as far as 10 ml per gallon and was fine but not that I would recommend it. 2 ml is good.

    • @JHAquatics
      @JHAquatics  6 років тому

      I prefer 35% food grade, but it can be dangerous so I kept it to 3% in the video for safety reasons.

      L.R.Bretz's Aquatics I agree but outside the States everything is so much more expensive. It's like $200 ($150 USD) for a small bottle of food grade h2O2

  • @capnspicy5565
    @capnspicy5565 6 років тому +8

    A word of caution, Even in very low dosages it will kill mollusks!!! That can be a good thing to some people, But in my case it's a very bad thing, I only use 3% food or dental grade with no added stabilizers, Or I will just make my own h2o2 most of the time, But, I use it constantly for almost everything, A whole channel about h2o2 would be really awesome, Not sure people like chemistry as much as I do. lol

    Can peroxide hurt my turtle? It’s in a 10 gallon tank with just enough water to swim and it has rocks and all in there. I’m asking bc it’s my son’s turtle and he is not home for a couple days and the filter went out. I’m ashamed to say but my son let the thing get too dirty and last night I cleaned it out and boiled water to put in it ( yes I let the water cool off before I put the turtle in it).... but my reasoning is bc I can’t get to the store right now and I just couldn’t stand the turtle being in there in that nasty ass water. Anyways, it’s in the clean tank now. There just isn’t a filter in there and I’m afraid it’ll kill the turtle without one. Please help??? ASAP!!!!!

    Hydrogen peroxide is actually very beneficial to earthbound and aquatic plants. It oxygenates the roots, kills bad bacteria that grows as a film on their leaves and it also promotes new route growth. I highly recommend keeping new plants or plants you’re going to transfer to another tank into a hydrogen peroxide and water mixture. 20% hydrogen peroxide, 80% distilled water to rinse let it sit in there for a minute, pull it out and rinse it off with some pure distilled water, and then place it into its new tank.I highly recommend dipping new plants or plants you’re going to transfer to another tank into a hydrogen peroxide and water mixture. 20% hydrogen peroxide, 80% distilled water to rinse let it sit in there for a minute, pull it out and rinse it off with some pure distilled water, and then place it into its new tank. do use of hydrogen peroxide in earthbound plants should only be used as a last resort as it kills all beneficial bacteria and nutrients in the soil.
