Spearfishing Hawaii Knife Jaw Catch and Cook + Sashimi Taste Test

  • In this video I take off with Sam to explore some new areas to go spearfishing in Hawaii. They end up being too rough so we dive a popular spot and manage to collect my first ever knife jaw. I lose a massive uku and pick up a few other reef fish as well. As usual I break down my dives to show you what I did right and wrong. I happen to have 4 different sushi grade fish in the fridge so we compare how they taste and then teach you guys one of our favorite simple fish recipes. Thanks so much for watching!!!

    Since Justin is a Hawaiian legend you should do a blindfold sashimi challenge, have him guess which fish is which that would be funny to see and I hope he does well! Haha

    Great video, you can really tell when Sam does not like the taste of something. Her actions speak louder than her words. I have watched many many “Catch and Cook” Hawaiian videos. This recipe in this is video was a welcome difference. If I have watched 100 Hawaiian fish cooking videos the fish in 90% of the videos were deep fried, 3% were steamed, 3% were grilled and the remaining 4% were other. It is so nice to see fish prepared in a way other than deep frying. Mahalo for that.

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  4 роки тому +1

      The way I use the creekkooler is basically 90 % of the time I don’t fill up the small 15 l one. If I do fill it I have a stringer on my belt I just put on the cooler like a regular float and I’m usually on my way in anyways. I like the minimalist small version as it’s what works the majority of the time.

    Alamihi mama that. Alaihi is the smaller football shape one. It’s good raw, or any way really.
    Her 3 prong seems like the rubber is a couple inches too long. Plus maybe some skateboarding grip tape or electric tape where she holds the shaft to stretch the rubber.
    Cheers.

    Have to remember you cannot go everywhere some of the small communities that subsist off of these areas rely on their fishing grounds. There are plenty places you can go discover but just remember get some places you’ll go and and fish or dive and your car will be vandalized. I don’t condone these actions but it’s a reality we live. People actually live far away from work or Costco so they need their ahupuaa and it’s resources to feed their families. If any of this doesn’t make sense to you, I suggest taking the time to research. This is an important part of Hawai’i not many understand. I enjoy the videos always nice to hear and see adventures around the island as long as you not revealing grounds that the native people need to subsist. Obviously you love Hawai’i and it’s culture and people. How lucky you get friends that take you to their zones. Blessings. Oh and those who say this is America and you can go wherever you wish. Historically Hawai’i was stolen from its people similar to the banana republic of South American countries.
    With attitude you not going have a pretty stay here. Again just my experience.
    Also tips on living and diving in Hawai’i. Only take what you need Malama the cycles of the iʻa fish. Always ask before you go in someone elses zone. Go Be apart of these small communities and build relationships.
    Always take your trash you bring in and take it out.
    Remember all your bankrupt fishing lines get stuff on the reef. People like me who live in these small communities often end up cleaning up after the large number of people who vacation or hobby fish.
    Always honor what you catch and hōʻihi (treat sacred) the places you travel.
    Never take a whole pile of fish from each school. Just couple. That goes for bugs as well. No be greedy.
    Follow those rules and you will likely be better welcomed the those who just come and do what they like not thinking about their impact.
    Aloha.

    How did that red wine taste? I never drink red wine with seafood. It makes the red wine taste fishy. For sashimi I would pair with rice wine/sake, vodka, or white wine.
