@@RyanMyersExpeditions I had a bad experience with my hero 7 freezing on me (randomly) made it unusable for taking in the water (surfing and diving). Can I ask if you encountered this issue? If so how did you fix it? Mahalo!
For All beginners learning to hold their breath longer should do it under close observation with a very experienced diver to watch for “SHALLOW WATER BLACKOUT”! It can be a very Deadly event if and when it happens, I unfortunately had two of my friends and fellow divers hav this happen to them, my friend Jarret in the ‘90s during a Coast Guard training break and Gene Higa in 2008, That’s why the old timers Always say “NEVER DIVE ALONE”! Not only that... but who ever you dive with must be well proficient in his or her capabilities of quickly spotting and reacting to their partners “Shallow Water Blackouts” and to quickly react to retrieve their partner and bring them up to the surface and may have to perform CPR. It’s also best to go with more than one other person but with a group of experienced divers, my uncle trained me as a little boy first to watch them dive by pulling the “pakini of fish” and fallowing them, a couple years later taught me to use the the old door hinge Hawaiian sling, then the 3 prong... then to the spearguns, and he always had a few other divers with him to assist if one of them had the “Shallow Water Blackout”, Two divers to assist a fellow diver in Distress should be the bare minimum. Holding your Breaths takes Practice, Patience, Conditioning and being Consistent (often), treat it as a Workout!
Hi! Awesome video! Im looking for a tip as beginner! When I shoot Uhu I cant reach the fish in time before they snap away, unless of course stone shots. It keeps happening over and over, so i just dont shoot uhu anymore. Its very frustrating, I hate spearing fish without retrieving it and I really enjoy the fish taste. Doesnt happen with other fishes though. Any advice?
Uhu are extremely soft and unfortunately without a perfect shot many of them tear off. My advice is to keep hunting them but only take the shot if you are certain it’s a head shot.
Wow didn't expect you to answer. Thank you for the advice, I'll do that. I'm really new to the channel but so far from what I've seen, awesome fun content, similar vibes which me and my friends practice this sport with, even though we're in the other side of the world. Thank you and keep it up. Props from Portugal.
Is it possible to do this with just a snorkel and a 3 prong I’m not the strongest swimmer and moving back to Maui soon I won’t have enough money for a wet suit and all the gear, I plan on doing catch and cooks. Would a simple set up work and do you have any tips for me ?
absolutely can do this with just a snorkel and 3 prong. you'll need some fins to but you can use a simple pair of snorkeling fins in shallow water. go check out my kole videos for some tips on using a 3 prong
You are lucky Mr Ryan. Here i am in tiny Singapore where all the beaches are literally closed due to the pandemic. I can't wait till the borders are open n the nearest legal country to spearfish is neighboring Indonesia. Stay safe. Peace.
Hi, good catch out there, i am kind of interested in one particular fish, The black, big one., we call Pacific Beak Fish(Oplegnathus sp), how do you call it. your friend show it to the camera at the minute 20. we have those down here in Peru.

Aloha, awesome video! Couple questions. Do you wear earplugs? I spearfish/paddle/surf on Oahu and have been bothered by constant ringing in my ear via the wind/deep dives. Also, how long are you holding your breath for on the average dive? Finally, I've broken several three-prongs by missing fish and hitting the reef/rock, how do you avoid that issue/ do you (or beginners you're with) come across that issue often?
No, I don't wear any earplugs when diving but I use a wonderful rinse after diving that helps clean and prevent infections. it's 1 part distilled white vinegar to 1 part rubbing alcohol. let it sit in each ear for a few minutes and then drain and dry ears. average dive is less than 2 minutes. three prongs are kind of like spears, they're borderline disposable. the more you shoot the more they break. the nicer you buy will probably last longer. but I've actually never owned my own three prong. Thanks for the questions and thanks for watching!

Ya they are known to be high in ciguaterra. Some people eat the smaller ones but I try to avoid them. Mostly people shoot them and leave them on shore, chum with them, or put them in their gardens.
Aye Ryan, inform your followers that while most of us is staying home... that they should take this down time to check our fishing/diving gears and repair and restock on things that needs looking into, but most of all to call there favorite fishing supply shop and support them (if they’re open for business) while staying safe! Aye Ryan, inform your followers that while most of us is staying home... that they should take this down time to check our fishing/diving gears and repair and restock on things that needs looking into, but most of all to call there favorite fishing supply shop and support them (if they’re open for business) while staying safe! Aloha.
Great idea! thanks bro
