    Great instructional video! I love baked uhu. Well, I used to. But they are an integral part of the marine ecosystem. With their beaks, they are the few that can break down dead coral (that turn to sand) and also they eat algae that can smother smaller corals. So save da uhu!!

    For All beginners learning to hold their breath longer should do it under close observation with a very experienced diver to watch for “SHALLOW WATER BLACKOUT”! It can be a very Deadly event if and when it happens, I unfortunately had two of my friends and fellow divers hav this happen to them, my friend Jarret in the ‘90s during a Coast Guard training break and Gene Higa in 2008, That’s why the old timers Always say “NEVER DIVE ALONE”! Not only that... but who ever you dive with must be well proficient in his or her capabilities of quickly spotting and reacting to their partners “Shallow Water Blackouts” and to quickly react to retrieve their partner and bring them up to the surface and may have to perform CPR. It’s also best to go with more than one other person but with a group of experienced divers, my uncle trained me as a little boy first to watch them dive by pulling the “pakini of fish” and fallowing them, a couple years later taught me to use the the old door hinge Hawaiian sling, then the 3 prong... then to the spearguns, and he always had a few other divers with him to assist if one of them had the “Shallow Water Blackout”, Two divers to assist a fellow diver in Distress should be the bare minimum. Holding your Breaths takes Practice, Patience, Conditioning and being Consistent (often), treat it as a Workout!

      Great advice I’ll make a video soon talking about blackout prevention and treatment and about my own blackout. Thanks!

    Aloha, awesome video! Couple questions. Do you wear earplugs? I spearfish/paddle/surf on Oahu and have been bothered by constant ringing in my ear via the wind/deep dives. Also, how long are you holding your breath for on the average dive? Finally, I've broken several three-prongs by missing fish and hitting the reef/rock, how do you avoid that issue/ do you (or beginners you're with) come across that issue often?

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  4 роки тому +1

      No, I don't wear any earplugs when diving but I use a wonderful rinse after diving that helps clean and prevent infections. it's 1 part distilled white vinegar to 1 part rubbing alcohol. let it sit in each ear for a few minutes and then drain and dry ears. average dive is less than 2 minutes. three prongs are kind of like spears, they're borderline disposable. the more you shoot the more they break. the nicer you buy will probably last longer. but I've actually never owned my own three prong. Thanks for the questions and thanks for watching!

    Awesome video guys! Absolutely crushed the fish and the cooking. My favorite diving technique is dive bombing, i've been pretty successful with groupers using it. (surprising I know lol) Keep it up!!

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  4 роки тому

      Dive bomb can definitely crush some groupers but I prefer to settle in and crawl over. Especially with your gags on the gulf. Thanks for the support like always! More coming soon!

    Try taking a trip to the Marianas Islands or even somewhere like Palau. You would LOVE the diving.

      Im thinking of getting a rob allen aluminum tuna railgun is that gun really good ? Or the rob allen snapper ?

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  4 роки тому

      I think they both actually are the same gun but with different band setup. The snapper has lighter bands. Not sure though. We always use the tuna.

    I've seen people taking out the Roi because they are invasive and harmful to other reef fish, are they too high risk of cigutera to eat? What do you do with them if they are?

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  4 роки тому +1

      Ya they are known to be high in ciguaterra. Some people eat the smaller ones but I try to avoid them. Mostly people shoot them and leave them on shore, chum with them, or put them in their gardens.

Aloha.
