Ohhh... I remember this. If you searched through old COD4 sound files you can find Mac's voicelines that suggest you went back to him and rescued him. It's a cut content probably, just like training camp in COD4
they also only say that he's been hit, usually in the series following voicelines like "leave him" or "We can't get to him" indicates they're dead or will be, given how nothing came after that ive always assumed he was hit but not KIA'ed, but by the sounds of it he actually isn't/ wasn't

@@yanishioun7462 I played the original not remastered and during the retreat arem spawns in a house far off from the one I'm talking about, the house in question I said mac was in can be accessed by the player but you cant go into the room he's in, if mac was providing sniper support from a location far enough to see the whole village he should've been fine. But he died.

If so, Mac would've been using an MG to give us covering fire, as in the old COD4, no-clipping into the room with it would reveal an unmounted MG that auto-locks onto targets and shoots them. This character, like captain price, was a reference to real life SAS soldier John McAleese. He died in 2011 and had taken part in the 1980 Iranian embassy siege.
His families story and demise is very sad. His son died in an IED attack in 2009, he died from a heart attack in 2011 and his wife committed in 2019 on Remembrance Day.

Could be he had plate penetration and took a round to the heart. With the adrenaline pumping that will explain the casualness of it being accepted, possibly not initially even aware of how bad it is. That groan would then more than likely be a groan of falling unconscious due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. So if it was the case technically he isnt dead when you hear that but he will be a few minutes from then on. Just a possible justification for the rather subtle death line you hear. Could also be he took a second round as he went to say something and just moaned as he went down.
