Thomas (since he’s been known to have insulted those like Terence) could’ve been talking badly about Harvey with Henry Gordon and James while Edward or Percy (where it also isn’t really like him to insult others for their looks) could’ve taken his role instead
The fandom may have several different opinions but I think everyone agrees that the characters who got the worst treatment from HiT were the characters who are supposed to be old and wise (Edward, Toby, Skarloey, and Rheneas).
While I do think this episode was not written well at all, I think the concept of Edward having a prejudice against cranes could work. The aforementioned Harvey scene in season 6 was the start, but I think the nail in the coffin for this trait was in season 7, when he was knocked off the rails by a crane. Sorta like how James gained a prejudice against diesels after Diesel played tricks on everyone all in the name of replacing them
Edward having a prejudice against cranes ABSOLUTELY doesn't work. The engines judging Harvey was just for no actual reason and Edward getting knocked over by Big Mickey was his operator's fault, not Big Mickey's. How would someone like as wise as Edward actually have a good reason to hate cranes over a simple accident that wasn't actually the crane's fault to being with?
Kiether Adams must’ve not been afraid as he wrote two stories to explain the absurdity that was Edward’s prejudice of sentient cranes. “Sodor’s Early Beginnings” and “Edward’s Rocky Recovery”. Go check them out.
I hate "Edward Strikes Out" so much; it completely ruined Edward's character! He's supposed to be wise and kind, not stupid and rude! 😡 Hit really didn't know how to work him into the new format of Thomas.
It's good knowing Edward's character got better post the Hit and Nitrogen era, only for it to go downhill once more thanks to Mattel and BWBA. Still, it doesn't stop me from disliking such a great character, although I think many will agree Edwards was always the best from the Railway Series. He does have his moments in the tv show, but things just weren't always perfect for the old iron, pun intended.
@@joshuaW5621 Yeah, the first season of BWBA actually did an okay job with him, just after that he barely appeared, though at least wasn't bastardised. Worst he got was Emily's Best Friend and even that was mostly just a silly fantasy sequence. Many also forget that Edward barely appeared in later parts of the Railway Series either. Edward's Exploit and Edward and the Cabbages were largely one offs to remind us he existed, even if Edward's Exploit was a GOOD redeemer.
Edward is (surprisingly) not one of my top 10 favourite characters. But "Edward Strikes Out" even tho I don't think it's the worst from the HiT Era or Season 10 in general.
The episode should've been about Gordon hating Rocky as Edward being used a having this horrible attitude just like Gordon is just way out of character.
Did the writers frim HIT ever read the rws books? Of course f*cken not. Dumbass writers dont know Edward, Toby, Skarloey, and Rheneas are old and wise engines of the rws and proceed to fuck up ther personality in the dam show. This is why I loved the classic Season 1-4 era. I know damn right if I can go back in time to become a writer for HIT. Ill follow what Awdrey actually wants then the bullshit we got. Does anybody agree.
You could fix this episode pretty easy if you add a scene with Harvey be sad and change the dialogue to have the engines prase Rocky having Edward see Harvey being sad
Edward seems out of character in HIT / Mattel era; the TV series past S4 may as well not exist for me... Some of the S3 'original' episodes would fit with RWS such as "Heroes" would take place after "Thomas & the Fat Controllers Engines" as this is the last time we say the China Clay trucks. I imagine since the events of the final Railway Series book that Edward has been retired to the Clay Pits Museum with Bill & Ben and now pulls tourist trains on his old branch line.
Honestly I think this Edward strikes out could work if it was set back when Edward first arrived on Sodor, as was rude to the breakdown cranes. Edward has been hinted at being as pompous as Gordon during his express life so I think this wouldve made sense why he was such a dick to cranes
Tbh I didn’t really care for Edward I found Henry more interesting and to be fair what he has done is great but I really never found anything interesting about him

Fun fact, in the classic series, Edward up until season 7 had a spotless record regarding incidents, showcasing the kind of character he was.
He was still written out of character in Harvey to the Rescue
@@jaanshersaeed4541that was just one line that could easily be looked over or swapped with another character without anyone noticing.
@@joshuaW5621 it could’ve been an extension of Henry’s line
That Line doesn’t even Fit Edward.

7:40 Wouldn’t James have some level of respect for cranes since he was rescued by one on his first day?
Excellent point
I love Edward, he's a father figure to younger engines, especially to Thomas.

it wouldn't add up, true thomas fans didn't understand back then, and the newbies just dismissed it
This is why I stick to the RWS & S1-S7 from now on; albeit I did grew up with the Miller era but still
All the engines thought Edward was too old to do anything and wished he should retire.
Maybe, replace Edward with Henry. Be a rare occasion having Jerk Henry since season 5. Plus Henry is strong enough to haul the heavy pipes.

Say what you will about BWBA, but at least it didn’t have Edward being out of character.
I agree Edward Strikes Out iis darn awful of which I hadn't noticed until i watched reviews on it, Edward is indeed screwed up in it!
Fun Fact: James was originally going to be in Edward's spot in Edward Strikes Out.
That would make the episode so much more tolerable
No he wasn’t. That’s a rumour.
Is tody not the oldest engine
My theory is that this was just one of the boastful engines dressed as Edward, and everyone believed him.
Edward is not my favourite. But this is a bad episode it destroys Edward in a way you would think this was James.
