2000 XR400 Fork Rebuild

  • I keep falling on the XR400R, especially over rocky areas. I know a lot is due to not having a lot of experience, but I'm pretty sure it's setup related as well. Before this video, I have lowered the forks(previous owner had them really high) and lowered the front sprocket a couple of teeth. Both of these have increased my wheel base which has given me more stability, but there is still an uneasy feeling when riding.
    I still feel the front end is a little soft with compression maxed out so I picked up .47kg Eibach springs to replace in the forks. I also picked up some 5wt fork oil to replace. I didn't say it in the video but the old fork oil smelled terrible(probably has never been changed).
    *Note: This is not a how to, this is just how I refreshed my forks. The steps I take may differ from yours depending on model year.

    14mm Wrench
    17mm Socket
    24mm Wrench

    Custom Steel Tube 1"x18" (Cut out notches)
    Measuring Cup for Fork Oil
    Various Phillips and Flathead Scredrivers

      These are just the stock fork and I did not need to add extra air pressure.
