You make me want to use every distro you review lol. My production machine is Fedora and my play machine is ArchCraft, but I’ve even running Linux Mint without issue on the machine my wife uses for 6 years. Really solid distro

I actually like the change from older kernels to tracking Ubuntu. I know many new to Linux users who install Mint on new hardware and have compatibility issues left and right on a fresh install. They often don't understand what the problem is, because the idea of a monolithic kernel is alien to them. In this case, having newer kernels often solves more problems than they create. Just don't go bleeding-edge. That's all I ask.

I think I started with mint five. Really liked it, but wandered around with different distro's. They have been very consistent in their approach and not swayed by alternate tablet type control. Well done. I think it might be time for me to play around with the new version. Any problems with jelly fin?

In my experience your more likely to have bugs from a bleeding edge desktop environment more than an up to date Kernel, for instance Garuda Cinnamon is crazy stable while being enormously up to date. I mention the previous statement because Garuda Dragonized and Gnome are both littered with bugs thanks to KDE and Gnome being less stable on the latest releases, at least on my PC with an Nvidia GPU. Right now I am maining Mint 21.3 until Linux Mint 22 comes out which btw I am so excited about. Mint is just the all around perfect OS with no BS developed for the User before anything else, I really love it!

Well I have been using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS since its release and it has been pretty stable. So I figure this new Linux Mint should be stable and might be easier to use and without snaps. But Ubuntu is good enough for me and started to get use to Gnome.

Titlebars are part of what started Cinnamon, when Gnome 2/3 split happened way back in 2008-2011.
If you don't want titlebars, you might prefer something else.
Cinnamon is about keeping the old style, on purpose.

Did the upgrade from 21.3 to 22. It pretty much gutted most of the apps I use. I was smart enough to do a Clonezilla backup first. Reverted back to 21.3. 22 sucked.

But the latest version came with few issues for me. First the Software Manager didn't work for me. I posted in Linux Mint forums. As per the suggestions given by experts I removed flatpack and mintinstall lot of times and reinstalled. But nothing worked. Somehow one day the Software Manger worked on its own without any fix which was strange. And now Nvidia drivers are not working. Not able to install the drivers and because of this even the upgrade from 21.3 to 22 failed before. I had to perform a clean install because 21.3 got bricked. Now waiting for a solution for this to be fixed.

There are tutorial videos about how to spice up your Linux Mint OS including the themes that you can download and install. I've been using Linux Mint for 2 years now and I have no problem with it's looks. I installed CBlue theme, made the toolbar transparent and put the toolbar icons in the middle. I also used Adwaita icons. And for the wallpaper, I downloaded applications like Wonderwall and Wallpaper Selector so now I have access to thousands of beautiful wallpapers.

why use mint? CONVENIENCE. there are 3 reasons I use mint. 1. nemo file manager -> open as root, open in terminal (you can do this with other FMs, but you need to install addons some extras, nemo does it out of the box. 2 Driver manager - I have not found a distro that handles nvidia driver and other driver issues better. sure fedora will install, but upgrades and others always give me problems. if you use blender, installing the developer pack or whatever extras can cause alot of frustration. once I had to compile some package just to get the driver so to show in blender. i have better things to do. dumped fedora and installed mint. sure it is not as snappy, but so much easier. speed is measured in productivity, not the milliseconds it takes to open a window. 3.removing old kernels - the mint upgrade manager window makes this so easy, see what kernel is installed and get rid of what you dont need. fast, simple, convenient. you should mention these when doing reviews.
one thing I dont understand is when you are doing an install review, why not show how to custom partition the HDD and go through the installer. this is the most important part for people using a distro for the first time. I want to make sure my data on home is not lost. go through the settings. show how much space to leave for swap, home, file system, UEFI, etc. this is the stuff people want to know. not the talk about the same features all other distros have. do a full install and review, not just auto install

Oh well. I'm sure it is all fun and games. But why bother? Everything was perfect with Mint since 2009. Actually probably since 2006. Sure I'll probably get around to updating my xfce version of mint on my machines at some point. But there is no pressing need for it.
It's not like I'm using Apple, Windows, or Ubuntu. Once on Mint there's nothing to do ever again but work on your real work.
