- A Review of a Linux distro called Zorin OS 17.2 released with a new MODERN GNOME Desktop and great new features. This might be the best alternative to Windows for users and they even offer a new Windows 11 Layout with the PRO edition.

I've been using Zorin OS for over 3 years now. Never looked back. It does everything Windows does just faster and smoother with zero crashes. Features are way beyond any Windows version ever made too. Switched from AutoCAD, Solidworks, Office and Illustrator to FreeCAD, Open Office and Inkscape and besides the normal learning curve when beginning any new software, I felt everything was more than enough for a SME Engineering Workshop and Offset Printing House to be viable for commercial purposes with the advantages of being license free.
I'm new to Linux. Have being using Zorin lite in my old laptop for 3 months now.
I don't know why I choose Zorin over Mint or MX, I just liked the looks and the vibes.
I'm very happy with it, and I'm glad I left MS Windows 🎉
Should be noted that once you get the hang of things pretty much any distro can be customized to look and feel exactly how you want. The GUI is an abstraction on Linux.
Guide me file manager and app installing thing.
What alternatives to Windows are you using?
any!
NIxOS+tvix, alpine, arch/CachyOS.
All types of BSD.
Android vanila/OneUI/custom.
Custom built OS for some firewalls+routers+dns and some tablets/phones.
Fedora with Plasma.
Fedora KDE. Before switching I did find Zorin far more unappealing than a Mint distro.
Debian and Fedora (KDE spin)
EndeavourOS KDE
I'm pretty new to Linux. Tried several distros but I'm confused. Your Linux Cheatsheet has everything I need to jumpstart my Linux education. Thank you and keep up the good work.
As of now, after several distro-hopping, I wanna stick myself with Zorin for a while to re-educate myself. After this, I shall explore Arch and Gentoo
Glad you enjoyed the sheets ! Thanks for the support
Personally i think Zorin OS is great user friendly OS for laptops and chromebooks
How do you run it on chromebooks?
@@sheldonkupa9120search up chultrabook
@@sheldonkupa9120 cause it can. just need a few tweaks
Depend on a new user needs I push them to mint or zorin os as options. There are other but thats abit little more for a new user can deal with.
I installed zorin os 12.2 ony imac 2011 with 4gb of ram and i must say it runs excellent, better than High Sierra mac os which isnt supported anymore
Isn’t it great how Linux distros can give new life to old hardware?
i have been a windows user since 1.0 and now in my old age i am seeing the slow disintegration of what was a good OS into just a platform for MS to try to leverage money out of the users aka office 365 and many other what are now being called "apps" not programs anymore.
time to learn how to use Linux instead esp Zorin as my first delve into the Linux OS
struggling to understand the terminal and how to install the programs and apps needed, i have to keep looking up the commands as they are not easily lodged in my failing memory
i am using Zorin as a duel boot on a gaming laptop but not on my main PC just yet until i figure out how to ensure i dont loose my 30 years of data on the main pc
Zorin OS is amazing!
Tried top list distros and stuck with Zorin since a few months ago as it gets the job done. Last one I used was Pop'OS and I was quite happy with it for a while, but it crashed (Ok, I crashed it...😅, that's how we learn anyways, right?).
We appreciate your honesty.
I'm debating on getting it, but will it run Windows apps and programs too?
zorin os has windows app support you just open a exe file and it pops up with a button to install it. then its installed and can run some windows software. for example 99% of my windows games run with this feature installed.
I just installed Zorin OS 17 on my PC coz I can't afford to purchase windows and its softwares. and Yes, unexpectedly, I love ZORIN OS soo much morethan Window.
Now I amalso installed ZORIN OS LITE 15 on my old Chromebook 🥰
It's so addicting.. felt like I am using MAC OS
we installed Zorin OS in 2015 Macbook and could not make WiFi connection working. we gave up and installed DEEPIN OS and we are happy with DEEPIN OS.
Great video. I bought a laptop from someone and he have dual boot windows 11 and zorin. I want to update the OS can I update without paying money or if I update the OS they will upgrade by default?
Personally, for people who have older hardware I suggest Linux Lite, Peppermint OS-Classic, Linux Mint XFCE, and with newer hardware Linux Mint Cinnamon, Zorin OS. There are also a lot of other distributions that are underrated, and worth attention. For example Pardus Os, SparkyLinux, Siduction Linux, Openmandriva etc. These distributions are friendly, and quite easy to use.
There's a Zorin Lite version for older hardware.
The core version of zorin os
I wanna know if this OS is compatible with VMware. Is it possible to install it on VMware?
Zorin is great!
How much does it usually use for ram?
Do you think this will work smoothly on a Chromebook?
Try using Linux Mint XFCE or Zorin OS Lite. They will demand less from your hardware
Can I still download Windows applications from the Internet on it?
I dont think so. It really depends on the app, you can try, but dont be disappointed if it fails to run. It never designed to run on Linux.
You can download them just fine, but installing? You need WINE app to do that.
It's good and not only for beginners, recently go new laptop, HP Victus 15 and installed zori 17.2. had one problem. Screen brightness adjustment did not work. Also tested it on Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse tumbleweed, Pop os, Nabora all same problem. On Ubuntu also got totally dark 😂. Work around was install extension to overide original sliders. Will daily drive zorin and see how it goes. P.s nividia works, just ppl don't forget install nividia zorin version
the tiling with asking which app to open on the other side is the most annoying feature in windows 10. fortunately it can be turned off
wuts an ayawada?
I looks promising for me and similar to windows, so switching to it and using this will be easy for regular users ...👍
Is it a Ubuntu skin?
If you ask me it's what Ubuntu should look and be out of the box.
Linux Mint XFCE is the best Linux Alternative for Windows
Zorin and Linux mint are good for beginners. Linux Lite is another good one. Dont forget puppy linux!! They can run the thing off of flash drive 😊
gnome 43??? a 2 years out of date version seriously? did anyone tell the Zorin team that we are up to gnome 47 now? nice looking polished distro but really they need to get more up to date as newer versions of software have many improvements.
Seriously?
An OS is developed in weeks?
Gnome 47 was "unveiled" September 18, 2024.
As an FYI Gnome 43.9, NOT Gnome 43 when initially released that you are cherry picking, like most any software release comes with bugs and leads to multiple patches. Gnome 43.9 was released late summer 2023, close to a year after the initial Gnome 43 release.
Ever consider that a developer like Zorin would prefer to have some time and miles on the environment that they plan on building on?
So you want Zorin to have had their OS coded in parallel with development of the underlying gnome code base that is not tested and we also aren't even one month into Gnome 47's release?
Oy.
@@mjs28s it's running on old gnome and Ubuntu 22.04 which is an old lts at this point, mint upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 one month after it's release, zorins living in the past
IMO Mint's Cinnamon Desktop would be a much better experience for users coming across from Windows than Zorin's customized GNOME Desktop.
Agree, Zorin is really well done but I much prefer the Cinnamon menu rather than default Zorin, so it's Mint for me!
linux mint btw
A great place to start for people as well :))
Stop focusing on Windows alternatives. Nowadays you have Fedora with KDE shell or Solus OS with Budgie shell, which are very user-friendly, you won't really want something like Windows with those
Lol, being most expensive Zorin pro than a Windows OEM key...
Arch BTW 😂
Arch. BTW 😉
Haha are we suggesting this to new users?
@@SavvyNik That would be a no, they just needed to tell you they use Arch ;D
@@TheOmegaDMM Exactly my brother, exactly 😀
