    You just like to stir the pot lol.
    The first thing I want to say is the direct injection is why the 6.6 can have a higher compression ratio than you typically see for stuff that can run on 87. So you can’t use that one when mentioning the Ford requiring premium to get max performance and for towing. And that’s typical Ford too just so you know. They are the king of marketing because they leave out the fine print stuff lol.
    Second thing is the gearing again lol. I mean it’s not going to help in these runs. The 6 speed Chevy is the perfect example. It just hits 60 mph in 2nd gear with a 3.73. A 4.10 or 4.30 would make it shift to 3rd and you can guarantee it would be slower. But anyways, I agree they should offer the option for two reasons. One because it would truly be a benefit if what you’re doing is going to keep you in 1st gear. And two so all the guys that think it would perform better could get it. But I can assure you it will not.
    And lastly the Ram should have been 4th place, and a distant 4th at that. Now if you’re just going off this test 0-60 and fuel mileage ok fine, but overall it’s a distant last place.
    It would be nice to see you get to do a towing test with these trucks where you could bring up towing stability and such.

      @@JetTech1966 lol. You learn how much transmission gearing works when you go from pulling with 6 and 8 speed autos to a 4 speed auto and vice versa. A couple years ago I had a 2021 1500 Silverado 5.3 with an 8 speed and a 3.23 rear gear and I could do 60 mph on all my grades. Coming home from the races I had a lifter failure. So luckily my dad was driving his truck that night too, which is a 2008 1500 Silverado 5.3 but with a 4 speed auto and 3.73 rear gear. So we hooked his up to my trailer and on my 8% grade I could only do about 45-50 mph and that was with the truck shifting to 1st gear at times.
      So these guys just don’t understand how the transmission gearing is working. A 6 speed makes a huge difference but the 10 speeds (and 8 speeds for that matter) just about render a 4.10 or 4.30 useless for just about every scenario. Pulling exclusively in 1st gear would be the exception.

    I've owned trucks by all 4 companies. Reliability, towing and MPG is most important to me. If RAM had a 10 speed transmission. I'd be A RAM guy. Love their trucks. I've got a GMC 3500 now and really like it. FORD on the other hand was garbage. I've owned 4 FORD'S in my life. They were all trash. In fact I had to go all the way to lemon law on the last one. The 10 speed is why the other trucks suck ass.. the transmissions are always shifting and they have tons of trans problems. I work at a GM dealership and the Trans is shared with ford. It’s a bad design and is always updating. Until
      They fix this they are all trash besides the ram right now. Even the 8 speed rams suck compared to old schoo 6 speed. Gas milage doesn’t matter your buying a huge gas motor truck. You want mpg then get a diesel

      Hey What and how frequent are you towing ? Do you think you need a diesel ? I’ve had both gassers and diesel’s. Overkill is sometimes worse. Diesels need to work to get its full potential. You don’t want them to just sit around until you need to tow something for maybe few times a year. But on other hand you have the money. I’m older and towed frequently but my best tow vehicle was a GMC K30 350, 4 speed , 410 posi rear.

    • @brocklarson457

      Very few people actually NEED a diesel nowadays, these gas trucks have a lot more grunt than what people give them credit for. Even a 6.2 f350 ford can tow a 14k trailer quite easily. In my opinion, unless you’re almost always Hooked up to 15k plus trailers, gas is almost always the better option. Diesels are just so expensive and typically have more dumb problems. (And I’m a diesel guy)

    Been binge watching your vids, and being a Chevy fan, maybe I am biased here, but I don't see enough of a difference in any of the trucks performance that would change my mind. I did like your views on gas vs diesel in another vid. I think many of us don't put on enough miles to warrant buying a diesel and the issues that come with one. I also live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, so we do have extreme temps and mile high altitude. Another biggie for me is that fuel management system that I believe is bad for the engine. The 10 speed Allison is also a plus. I did find out that the Allison tranny is in name only as they are built by GM under license, which I'm not sure makes any difference. Anyways, thanks for the vids as I am in the market for a new Chevy LTZ or High Country. Yep, I'm spoiled. I have an LTZ and I'm not gonna settle for anything less. Prices are coming down, so I am watching vids and paying attention to prices.

    Great test - really appreciate your efforts here giving us your honest feedback and concluding that the Ford is leading in these specific areas. Let me admit now that I am a Ford fanboy so I like hearing it for sure. I also own a 2020 F350 Diesel and I would definitely go to bat for that truck, it’s a beast and I love it. Couple things about the Ford, the 8 foot bed does come with the 48 gal tank, and I know you know that but maybe the audience doesn’t. Also, there’s a couple areas I cannot overlook about the 7.3 engine. The engine breaking is not the best and certainly for towing safety and you’ve even made a point of it in earlier videos, it’s seriously lacking. Lifter issues appear to be resolved in the 2023 models but that’s out there too. So I think there are some real positives that may sway someone from ford to the 2024 Chevy with the 10-speed. I think it’s really a great platform and probably my choice if I were looking for a gasser today. After Ford works the kinks out of the 7.3, I think and as you pointed out, should be a clear winner if all else remains the same. It definitely has a lot more potential. Thanks again for the good content!

    My Ram 6.4 3.73 gearing was way too tall (2015 with 6-speed). I of course love aggressive tires, but there was no way I was going to tolerate even worse converter slip off the line. Felt too slushy even on OEM 275/70 tires. 1st gear went to like 40mph. I went with 285/60s and it locks up much easier now and I can actually use 2nd gear around town.
    4.10s or 4.30s are a must on these trucks if you want to do something like 35s. Function before form.

    One of your earlier videos showed that the 6.4/3.73 was faster 0-60 than the 4.10 bc of the extra shift required by the 4.10.
    The 6 speed 6.6 is rated ahead of the 6.4 w a ZF transmission??? 😂😂😂😂

All my cars are black including trailer so the color is right… what do you think? They say oil consumption issues? True? Thanks ! Comments suggestions welcome… helps that one of my track cars is a C6 (2009) ZRI …have other brands as well… my daily is a Yukon for kids and Costco runs …have farm (not farmer) rent land … barns converted to new builds with 5000 sq foot garage…

    I owned all 3 in the last 4 years, and I know for a fact that the chevy 10 speed gets better fuel economy then the 6 speed. Also I live in one of the worst road conditions in all of America. The chevy rides much better then the ford. Also pulling 12000 pounds the Ram has the best power.

  • @josephpuchel6497
    @josephpuchel6497 Рік тому

    Hey morning nice breakdown. I think it’s going to take some time to sync the 10 speeds. The Ram probably would have come in first if it wasn’t for the cylinder reduction. It makes the engine float around undecided. I like the 8 speed. I’m told 10 speed is for better fuel efficiency and emissions control. You could find an older Ford 7.3 International or 5.9 Cummins or Duramax pre 2007. Year one owner trucks be better

    • @nathanmcdonald610
      @nathanmcdonald610 Рік тому +1

      Pedal commander doesn't do anything other than allow you to adjust throttle sensitivity on the fly. It provides exactly a zero horsepower/torque increase though. It's for driving dynamics, not actual performance. If you want an actual performance bump you'll need to get a full on performance tune.

    I like your feed, but the way you are comparing these trucks isn't relevant. These are heavy duty trucks, they are purpose built and drag racing ,0 to 60, quarter mile , is not the purpose fo any heavy duty truck. On top of that we don't know gear ratios and multiple other factors that can be ordered at time of build , thet would make it fit a specific need. All that set aside these are work trucks not luxury vehicles

  • @chucklohnes7652
    @chucklohnes7652 Рік тому +1

    Fords 1st and 2nd gear ratio is setup to get the trailer moving then it gives it all the mustard after that. It will always lose off the line and scream by everything on top end. 7.3 and 6.7

    JB, this test can’t cover what pro athletes call “the intangibles”. It’s hard to test confidence a certain truck gives the owner, how you feel towing, and I’m sure most will agree. We are all biased to some brand or other, we’re guys. “My xxxxxxx will smoke your xxxxxxx in a 1/4” and so on. Comfort, visibility, it’s all subjective. Besides, my f450 will pull the axles off that pile of junk you call a truck lmao.
