Gotta love the Trichs. My friend got a few Peruvian Torches back in 2001. He gave me an 18" cutting one day, so i rooted it and grew it. It started basally pupping with each season after it got around 4' tall. Another friend of mine back in 2017 i think, wanted a pup, so i cut one off for him. He grew it since. Well me and my family got into a tight financial jam after i suffered a bad accident a few years back, so i gave some of my big plants away due to having to temporarily move and having space issues, and regretfully, my Peruviam Torch was one i gave away (among many other absolute beauties) Well my friend whom i gave the pup to passed away last year sadly, so i made it my goal to retrieve that pup back! When i finally got to his mom recently, the plant was still inside, missed all summer, and didnt get a chance to grow any. It was also broken in half, with a small pup growing out the top. It was so scrawny and emaciated from never being watered for almost 2 years since my friend passed, and it was still dormant as it was in the back room. I finally got that plant back, and _retrieved those genetics of Peruvian Torch!!!!_ This was only at the end of July, so the plant is still dormant. I've been watering it, giving it a nice big soaking each time, and lots and lots of direct sun. Its not pushing any new needles yet, and my time is running out as the end if Aug looms already. But at least ive got it to take in some water, because you can see how much more thicker the ribs have gotten. In honor of my friend, and how this pup went from me, to him, and now back to me... ive named this particular pup after him. His name was Will, and so the Torch is now named Will. Wish Will luck, and to at least wake up by the end of August so i can get one good month before i must coax them back into dormancy for the coming winter!!
    RIP Will...
    Live on thru this pup!!!
    Trichs for life!!!

What an amazing story. I’m glad you got Will back and I’m sure he’ll bounce back. If you take any cuttings I’d be honored to grow one.

@@RareCactus No problem thanks for feeding my cactus fever in more than one way. My wife recently bought me one of your fairly large A. retusus and I love it

I don’t think so, but mine do get lots of exercise daily so I think that’s the trick

I have a huge tall cactus like the blue one you have there but it has a big scar from when I moved 3 years ago. Should I just leave or is it easy to cut above the scar and replant?

If it’s just a scar I would leave it 🙂

Nice job. I would say that you have done this type of work before (kidding).
