I saved up for 2 years to buy my first 48 half pan wooden box set of Schmincke watercolours almost 26 years ago! I since have been able to purchase the 48 half pan metal box set, and a 24 full pan set and have recently (because I’m a crazy watercolour hoarder) have made a bucket list to collect every colour they have available...I am about 10 colours away from completing that...Why? I have no idea, it’s just what crazy paint hoarders do right? 😂
I believe it is called a completion fixation I still have trouble not buying every option available when I fall in love with a Art supply! Thank you for sharing Please say Hullo to Alice! Oh and good luck finishing your collection!
Have you ever considered using only three major colors and mixing them to produce almost every conceivable color in the planet. Actually you could most likely improve the mood and look of your work by limiting the amount of different colors straight from the pans.
I did *almost* the exact same as you did, Denise. I also had one leftover. But then I was delighted when I realised that each row can take 13 halfpans. So I now have a Schmincke 52-color studio set. :P
Like so many things in my life my water colors are old. I'm pretty sure the information in my 1996 Wilcox guide is somewhat out of date but I've always enjoyed my Schminke wc. I hope someday soon to pick them up again. The book is however a good source for which pigments are more lightfast and permanent. I'm probably in for a shock when I get out to pick some fresh paints.
I put together my first watercolour palette this year! After painting for years with a Windsor and Newton Cotman student colour set, I decided it was time to give myself a little upgrade :) I put together a Daniel Smith palette, with a lot of help from your videos, and I love it! Thank you for always putting out quality videos :D
You know you have a little problem with art supply shopping when you immediately recognize the package as being from Jacksons art supplies (I might have mad two separate orders from them the pst couple of months as a gift to myself ). I really enjoy your videos and wanted to say thank you for all of your work that you pun in making the best possible content for us!
These videos are so satisfying to watch, thank you :D. I am new to watercolor and I already want to buy everything, I've always been a bit of a hoarder when it comes to art supplies.
I Did not remember this video so I wanted to rewatch, I also did not comment although I did like it the first time, thumbs up! I have recently started working with soft pastels and Schminke has some extraordinary pastel sticks all the although they are also on the pricey side, just one reason why I have not invested in Schwinke watercolors, but I have bought some of their pastel sticks! I guess I could buy some gum Arabic or another medium and create my own watercolors from the soft pastel pigment sticks! I do you enjoy watching you work. Thanks again Denise, I hope you’re enjoying your day, take care.
you should make a video of colors that should be included in every palette as like mixing colors or just regular colors. like, what colors do you have in every palette?
sam g I'm working on a Skillshare class on that as we speak :) I do have a similar version though in my Daniel Smith essentials where I talk about my must haves.
thank you so much! i'm working on trying to get my mom to let me get skillshare because there's a lot of classes i'm interested in, but i will definitely check out the daniel smith video!
Hi Denise, thank you for this video. I have been doing watercolor for over 30 years (gee, now I feel really old LOL). Scmincke has always been on my mind, and I was finally able to purchase the 12 half pans on Etsy. Can't wait to get them. I also found a store here in Ontario, Canada that sells the half pans YAY! Thank you so much for your time and help. Have a great day.
Very late to the game, but in case other people want something similarish to the White Nights palette: Jackson's palette with the plastic insert with diagonal wells uses the same tin! You don't get the clippy bits to hold the pans, but if you don't mind using magnets or glue dots instead you can at least get the same small footprint and slim profile. I'm much happier buying the £6 empty tin and DIY-ing a way to keep the pans down, since the only other option I've found is buying a £53 24 full-pan White Nights set.
I am a total newbie to watercolour so I appreciate every video I watch here, I get so much info, and inspiration. One thing I realize is I need my own palette... I love DSmith, but I know I want to try a few colours from each brand while I find my style and colours. I bought a 18 set of white knights 1/2 pans, which I love, but I know I want to try a very broad base.. I already had Winsor and Newton for my calligraphy, but ... There's so much choice! I love colour, so I want it all! But I know that's not realistic!
I was one of the affiliate link users - I bought my first 24 15ml tubes of Schmincke (because of your videos!). They are beautiful paints and I can't wait to use them for more than swatches :-) I know what you mean about traveling with expensive paints. I have a palette that I made and haven't brought with me either because I so do not want to lose it. I will probably bring it along one of these days (likely if the hotels have safes!). Hope you love your new palette!
Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve found it helps to group similar colors in groups instead of lines. I tried the lines when I got a large palette and it made me feel restless.
You just made me want to check out the amazing Schminke paint sets. I have a few colors of theirs and they're absolutely lovely (I adore Helioturqoise, and I hope you love it too). Thank you for the lovely video.
So many beautifull colors, but that cobalt turquise is catching my eye. The quin. gold and transparent orange look interesting too. I might aswell look into buying these in my next order
Is it just me, that feels like there's nothing better, more relaxing than swatching a fresh set of paints? Also, I am a beginner at watercolors, I've been using cheap waterbrushes from amazon so far, but I've gotten a set of Mijello Mission Gold paints for my Bday and I'd love to get myself one or two good classic brushes, what would you all recommend for a beginner? :)
Hi Zawii! I have a Top 10 favorite brushes video that would probably be perfect for what you're looking for. I explain why I like certain brushes, and which ones are harder to use. All the best for your watercolor adventures!
I loved this video. I sell a similar palette in my Etsy shop. It has rails for 24 pans, but there is room in it for 36. The set of 12 that I sell has room for 52 pans if you put magnets on the bottom. I love these palettes. I would love to get one with 4 rails. Enjoy your new setup and paints!
This video was so satisfying ❤️ love the Schminke brand, love the smaller profile half pan container! Totally going to see if I can get one of those! Very beautiful set Denise ❤️
Wow, congratulations on finally getting your dream palette! 🎉🎨👍🍾 I also hope to have one someday (I have WetPaintArt 2017 & 2018 Schmincke palettes and 2 little tubes--luckily no dupes!--so I'm about 1/2 way there 😊)
I have 4 colours already, and about to purchase tiny box of 8 to make a little dream box. There I will have to stop where Schminke is concerned, I have a yen for the very different Kremer 8 too. How nice that you have fulfilled a dream. I look forward to seeing the end results of this lovely set....
And I thought I was the only one going completely overboard with those Schminckes ^^' My palette by now got roundabout 50 colours with some additional Van Gogh's that - no matter how hard I try wouldn't want to fit into my tin box ^^' But them again, for me here in Geemany, opposite to your experience, the colours are quite some cheaper than DS's. They cost like half the price I'd pay for those :)
Hi! What do you recommend to start with first professional set? I loveee my white nights, now cannot decide between Daniel smith and schminke, both are similarly priced here
I really like the idea of customizing your palette. I’ve only been watercoloring since last summer and I have been pretty loyal to Daniel Smith, but also have some American Journey and Da Vinci colors. Dr. Oto Kano uses a mixed brand palette and has several Holbein colors. I found a store on Amazon that was selling their Holbein @two for the price of one. I picked up a couple of Colbolt Green tubes and I really love not only the color but the paint.
Really enjoyed this video. I especially appreciate your indicating which paints you aren't likely to buy more of. A follow up video discussing which paints you have and haven't been using would be interesting. I've been trying to talk myself out of creating such a large palette, so a discussion about the practicalities, the positives and negative, would be much appreciated.
Wow Denise, My Schmincke Raw Sienna says its only PBr7. Maybe its changed because I got mine several years ago. It sucks that its now changed. I tossed my Schmincke Yellow Ochre out. I tossed out the Raw Umber, and now getting ready to toss out the Sepia and Burnt Umber. Its been dried in a porcelain palette for 10 years and I don't use it. When its not used in that length of time, its got to go. I've been using only my Holbein and Daniel Smith earth pigments.
I love Jackson's! When they had the awesome Schmincke watercolor sale a couple months ago, I went and ordered a whole bunch of half pans while waiting for the Wet Paint set to come in. I plan on getting a few more colors a bit later. And I love that smaller 48 palette! I'll need to see about getting my hands on it :) I've been using a similar Lukas tin (it was a set of 16 of their student grade paints) with magnets attached to the half pans but with this I wouldn't have to bother with magnets. I don't really like using the regular 48 watercolor tins for anything other than storage as they're a tad bit big for my taste, but I do like the hard to find 36 palette tins (which can be found at Jackson's, yeah!). Don't feel bad about not traveling with the Schmincke watercolor paints, I don't either nor most of my other paints, except for the Lukas as thats more affordable to replace, until I get tubes so I can redo the palette in case of theft or loss (aka the reason why I have so many palettes lol)
Can you compare Rembrandt to Schmincke watercolor paints in pans? I am wondering which is better to purchase since I found them online in a similar price :)
i brought my first few schmincke watercolours yesterday, which are considerably cheaper here in the uk compared to daniel smiths, and i could get student discount with them too! Sadly, i was in a rush and didn't check the pigments, and i was kicking myself a little bit when i realised the raw umber was multiple pigments. Still, their neutral tint is probably one of my favourites. Very versatile and has tons of depth to it! I've only just started my own artist grade water colour collects and have less than ten right now, but i'm really enjoying the process of just learning which brands i enjoy and the sort of opacity and pigments i love.
You have a lot of beautiful colors there Dennise, probably a little too many yellows, but that happens when you put together different palettes. You said you’re using the Arche paper, but which one,hot press or cold? Thank you so much😀
I love the 18 half pan palette. It sits beautifully in my hand and balances well. Concerns thanks to arthritis .to bad it is not availab)e all of the time. I also love the mixing area as it is a little larger than the old fashioned ...and has an edge that dont make dripping onto my work or cloths a thing of the past....you have connections..someone needs to tell daniel smith that this is what they shoukd have done for their palettes. Their plastic palettes were an insult to their beautiful paints. Thank you for sharing your selection from schmincke..
oh i'm really jealous of that white nights tin. i just got their 24 set last week and when i tell you the palette it comes with is terrible. i only had a meeden 25 half pan tin to use for it so i have to use them condensed into 12 paints until i find a new home for them!
If I ever want to setup a new custom palett, I'm sending my paints and palette of choice to you to organize and swatch for me. Along with return shipping.... lol
So JELLY!! ;) I LOVE that White Nights palette!!! Thank you so much for reviewing everything for us! Schmincke is my personal FAVORITE brand. You had many of the colors I had my eye on and it was wonderful to see the colors so close up! Have fun with your haul!!
I have one Schminke half pan, Helio Turquoise. I am a new M. Graham lover, so I have a menagerie of favorites going into a blank cigar box. I have too much paint as well, and narrowing down to quality, and pigments from 4 brands I love to use. Sennelier and White Nights and 2 D.S. WnN Opera Rose, haha! I also use high end student grade if I need to, it dries just like M Graham. I am going to love my wooden box palette. Good for you on the Schminke! I am impressed with the one I have. It's a gorgeous color, but M Graham likely makes something same or close, no?
Hi Terrie, yes MGraham has a similar color, though not exact. Their is called Turquoise. The Schmincke version is PB16, which a couple other brands do carry.
Schmincke Violet (dioxazine) is not very lightfast. So you’re not missing a thing imo. I returned a tube yesterday because I only realized it’s not very lightfast when I sat down to start fulling up my pallet. Imagine my disappointment :/ Fortunenately I was able to exchange it for Quinacridone Purple (PV55). 😅 Anyway great video as always. Great job!
When you put the tubes into the pans, does it set? Or does it always stay in a liquid form? I head before that you leave them out a couple of days to set, is this true, and does it depend on the brand
Yes, they should set up for you as long as you dont seal the container, and they you can work from the dried pans. Brand and climate will affect how long it takes.
Thank you for the video! After watching a lot of your videos I’ve started accumulating one-off colors here and there from various companies to add to my Qor high chroma set, so I’ve got quite the frankenstein palette now as well. It’s a mixture of Daniel Smith, M. Graham, Sennelier, DaVinci and Qor. Custom palettes are fun to set up, and I think I ended up with a lot less colors that I regret buying because I chose the majority of them myself. I still managed to waste money on a couple unnecessary paints though, but ai guess that was bound to happen. I would love to try schminke because those pans are so pretty, but I’m trying to avoid paints with oxgall. The idea of it just weirds me out. Hopefully I’m done buying paints for a while anyway though, because my palette is completely full!
itsteganyay that's wonderful to hear, congrats! My studio palette is a total mix of my favorite colors from whatever brand and I love it. I too have gotten tubes I've regretted but for the most part I love picking out my own colors and find it so much more satisfying than buying a prefab set :)
Buying the sets is the least expensive way to get a large selection of colors without paying big money - sets cost about 1/3 of what they contain. I picked up the 48 1/2 pan set for 270US. Special Edition Sets usually have colors not in the big 48 set, so they expand your palette for less money too...
I always buy the metall cases from white nights... veeery good qualaty for a really good price... compared to other brands or even no name brands😁 and are the first few colors in the new palete from that special schminke box with 3 colors?
They sell that thin palette on Jackson’s with a plastic insert. I always thought it was cool. Now I need to find that one with the metal pan holders too 😂
Schmincke paints look more "natural" and subdued compared to American brands like Daniel Smith, but yes, the 48 colour set does offer brilliant colours. However Schmincke watercolours are less granulating. They are excellent for detailed work and layering builds up their brilliance. They are very reliable and once you get used to them you probably will love them. If you want colours that jump right off the page, you'd better go with Daniel Smith.
This reuse of paperboxes for tubes i actually noticed in my favourite Online art store (can´t get single pans from any brand except schmincke horadam or tubes from every brand in a local store)
I'm not sure I understand the question. You can buy tube colors or mix your own :) I have a Skillshare class on Color Mixing if you're interested, and links to free trials in any of my Skillshare videos here on UA-cam.
I love Schmincke since they have been around me for my entire life growing up in Germany. When my father passed, I inherited his paints (full pans) with colours mainly for landscape which I have been complimenting bit by bit also with DS and a couple of Sennelier paints. I prefer to use full pans. So, obviously, I cannot fit them all in one box but I don't mind having more than one. Usually, what I do, is to take the pans I use for a particular painting out of the box so I can use them on my mixing palette. I find the boxes too awkward to handle while I paint. I wonder if anyone else does this.
Chrissie Nicely aw I'm so glad you get to share that aspect with your late father. I'm so sorry I can't remember who, but I saw someone who took their full pans and blue tac'ed around the edges of a plate for a palette! Pretty ingenous :)
Ooh love this ☺️ I relate SO MUCH with the Cobalt Turquoise purchase wish. I ended up buying Sennelier versions, but one day will surely get my hands on Schmincke. Love the palette! Their Potter's Pink, Perylene Green, Perylene Violet and Mahogany Brown have become indespencible for my palette ☺️ No issues with rewetting and pour in nicely ❤️ Congrats on completing the set!
Can the creator, or anyone else who has ordered from Jackson's to the US possibly take a moment to help me out, for a moment? I ordered from there, and it's gone past the delivery time it claims to take. My delivery said it'd be 6-14 days. I ordered on the 8th, and it said it was officially picked up and in transit starting in the early morning on the 10th. It's about to be the 25th now. The last time they updated was on the 13th, when it said it was on a plane to the US. I asked them, and they said it's likely a delay at customs, and that they had been taking up to 5-7 days max... they said it has been waiting at customs since the 15th. So not only is it past the shipping limit, but it's also gone beyond the limit they gave not only for normal customs, but for the delayed customs timetable. On top of that, the people at customs said they don't actually have it, and that I am technically waiting on their broker, and that they (the shipper that Jackson's uses) are in physical possession of my package, not them. They said they only have control of things they seize, and that they haven't seen or touched my package at all up to this point. So it seems that the shipper that Jackson's trusted is really messing with me, now. I needed this to be delivered on time. It's delaying my work, and I owe commissions I can't do. I will keep trying to get my original order, but ugh. This is not okay. I have two questions, in particular. First, has anything like this happened to anyone else who ordered from them in the US? How has your experience been, if you got stuff from them? Secondly, should I contact Jackson's to ask for a new, expedited order, to make up for this? Frankly, I do feel like I deserve to be reimbursed for this. My clients are already pissed. I'm stressed. They've been giving me the run around and hopefully lying, at times. I do feel wronged, and like I deserve for things to be made right asap. Normally, I'm a patient person. But this is getting pretty crazy. If I get the package within a week from this point, even, I would feel greatly relieved. But at this point, I honestly don't see that happening. Opinions, ideas, etc.? Also, if you're going to call me a bad person for wanting to be in some way compensated for this, you can go ahead and post but I won't feel guilty tbh. Maybe back then I had low self esteem, but nah, not anymore. I deserve to get what I pay for when they say I will, just like anyone else. So yeah, if you respond angrily, don't be surprised if I ignore it, heh. I don't feel I should have to explain why I deserve as much fairness as anyone else. :p~ I appreciate anyone's advice and time, if they feel like sharing. If you do, thank you so much in advance! It means a lot. That's all, I think. Thanks again, and have a wonderful day! Tc.
Wtf I've never heard bad experiences from Jackson's but this situation sucks! I don't really know anyone who's had a bad time with the company, but keep complaining to Jackson's and hopefully they'll start to really notice.
@@anik3216 Just emailed them mere minutes ago, informing them of the trouble I've experienced, and requesting they resend my order with expedited shipping. Dunno what else to do after just under 3 weeks. & yeah, this is my first time ordering, and I have literally only heard good things. I don't get it. It has really, really cost me, trusting them like this... down at least $200 USD in commission work, not to mention the damage to my reputation. Sucks. We'll see how they handle it. I don't have high hopes at this point, honestly.
I have Been following your Channel for almost 6 months now and i must say. I have not Gained more knowledge from any other Channel. but there is one piece of information that i have not found an where . What are the fillers that are used in student grade Paints.? Like are they white pigments or some other chemicals.? can you please help.??
Thanks so much and I'm glad the channel has been so helpful. I *think* that the fillers are a chalk like substance, but I don't know specifically what. White pigment is allowed to be added to paints as a filler without being noted on the label as well.
Hello, Denise! Random question. :P I know vaguely-ish that UA-camrs make money with ads displayed in their videos, yes? If I use an adblocker, will it affect your income in any way?
the schmincke tubes and pans as a single are so damn cheap here, i live on the german border on the dutch side - I can wave Hi to our friend Sadie,lol- , these retail here for around 4 euro. ( Meaning if you have a color of schmincke in a half pan just let me know, I cant pay you a full set, but I can pay for a missing color )The white night nights tin is insane isnt it?? I have two of them both retail here for 11 euro I was like, jeah, bite me I fill mine with schmincke paints lol I have about 26 of mine and stopped when I discovered sennelier, hehehehehe Be weary of the lid though. For traveling I suggest you do a rubber band on it as it does sometimes have issues with closing decently. Don't let that stop you from taking the palette on a trip. With a rubber band it works just fine, and the mixing space is awesome.
PS I just love pyrlene maroon and the cobalt. Their violet is indeed awesome. Watching you make that swatch gives me an urge to take my schmincke's out for a painting
Haha thank you as always! Perhaps one day I'll get to see Schmincke myself somewhere in Europe! For now, I've got plenty of paint to sort through hehe.
If you ran out I'll be officially worried :P I have not seen the company itself. I doubt they let people see how their candy is made: funny how we see distance differently: I need to remember that what for me, say two hours, is a pretty stiff ride, in the us doesnt even get you across town, lol
Now that you have used Schmincke so extensively, how do you think they compare to your other two favourite brands. You know, the ones who took first and second place place on your favourite brands video.
I stand by what I said in the top brands video. I adore these paints, but their cost makes them more prohibitive than DS and MGraham for where I live :)
In Liquid Color Yeah, I totally agree. The way things are, it makes no sense to use watercolours from another continent regardless of brands (maybe with some exceptions from Asia)... E.g., I am very curious about how M. Graham perform but when I can buy 3-4 tubes of Schmincke for the price of 1 from M. Graham, I cannot even justify testing them... Hopefully they will release a dot chart too!
I really am not a fan of the default color choice Schmincke put in their sets. They typically include convenience colors like Sepia, opaque colors like the cadmiums, and black and white. They also don't include Phthalo Blue unless you get the 48 set! It's crazy! Don't even get me started on the names.... But I did recently get a Sap Green from them, and it is so gorgeous and convenient. It's a bit more saturated than sap green should be, but it sounds like Schmincke has no respect for what paints should be called sometimes. I'm still trying to work out what 'Helio' is supposed to mean... Oh. I managed to get 2x5ml discontinued Schmincke PY153 'yellow orange' from a local art store. They changed the formula to PY110 now, and I even found a sap green with PY153 instead of 3 pigments. PY153 is like getting a tube of Daniel Smith original gamboge! I can prolly get at least 2 tubes of the stuff if you want the OG Gamboge. :D Which yellow orange do you have?
I fully agree that their 12 color set is among some of my LEAST favorite colors in my entire collection - I'm not sure why they include them. I do know that naming is different in Europe than it is here. it's not wrong, just different. Helio is their phthalo colors. I don't remember which yellow orange I have. I do know there was a discrepancy between my label and the brochure, but I don't know which was which.
Maybe pitch 'em an 'OCD' Christmas set, with 12 single pigments :). I really liked the design for the Akademie set, and would love a 2018 special with artist grade paints. PB29 (UB), PB15:3 (Phthalo Blue), Quin Rose, Pyrolle Scarlet, PY110 (Indian Yellow), PY3 (Yellow Lemon), PG7 (Phthalo Green), Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Venitian Red, Burnt Umber, Neutral Tint There you go Schmincke, job done. Stick a Da Vinci travel brush in, and stick your bear painting on, and I'd drop 150 euro any day of the week! 🤣 Hey if Jane can get a set, why not...
How happy watercolour makes us. I always come for the pan pouring.
What a glorious collection!
omg i wish i was you!!!!!
Actually you could most likely improve the mood and look of your work by limiting the amount of different colors straight from the pans.
i know Im quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to watch new tv shows online ?
I don't know why but watching you swatch colors is always a pleasing, happy & peaceful experience d. TY
I did *almost* the exact same as you did, Denise. I also had one leftover. But then I was delighted when I realised that each row can take 13 halfpans. So I now have a Schmincke 52-color studio set. :P
Haha you're absolutely right in that I can squeeze four more in here! I left room to row heheh
I'm probably in for a shock when I get out to pick some fresh paints.

yay! So good to see that palette blooming into a beautiful custom palette!
Thanks for making it possible! Or rather... enabling me :P
You heard what I said about also having ordered the gouache, right? 😂 Way too addicted!
I was thinking the same thing 😂 as soon as that brown paper bag came out I knew
You know you have a problem when you don't have a tail but feel like wagging it when you see jackson's on the bag. I know that problem, lol
Me too!! And they have a sale on Schmincke right now. I may be waiting for a set of 48. Yikes!! I'm calling it "market research". Ha ha!!
Ok. That is just plain evil :P
These videos are so satisfying to watch, thank you :D. I am new to watercolor and I already want to buy everything, I've always been a bit of a hoarder when it comes to art supplies.
I have to tell you I was SO excited for you to see how excited you were to get those paints!!! It made me so happy for you!😄😄😄 Enjoy, honey!❤
Christine Renaud ooo congrats! I'm so glad you found a shop that sells the half pans. It's a great way to round our the set.
Oh I'm so happy to watch this video , so fun to swatch and unbox !
Plus Schmincke do a wonder gouache for calligraphy that I love! So I gotta try the water colour too!
Thank you so much Mary! I'm very grateful :)
This is a fun video! Nice to see you so happy to finally get this completed.
Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve found it helps to group similar colors in groups instead of lines. I tried the lines when I got a large palette and it made me feel restless.
I did consider it for this one! Ultimately I chicken out :P but I'm experimenting with my smaller palettes!
Thanks Denise! Helps me whittle down my own Schmincke picks!
I might aswell look into buying these in my next order
nice to see a big pallet of schmincke put together, thanks for showing us them
Is it just me, that feels like there's nothing better, more relaxing than swatching a fresh set of paints?
Also, I am a beginner at watercolors, I've been using cheap waterbrushes from amazon so far, but I've gotten a set of Mijello Mission Gold paints for my Bday and I'd love to get myself one or two good classic brushes, what would you all recommend for a beginner? :)
Hi Zawii! I have a Top 10 favorite brushes video that would probably be perfect for what you're looking for. I explain why I like certain brushes, and which ones are harder to use. All the best for your watercolor adventures!
Thank you very much! I am going to look into those!
I have not been able to find the square Schmincke palette box. I like it.
It's a limited edition box, usually out around the holidays.
I was so lucky to be able to buy the 48 colour set but took a long time to save, so happy for you.
This is so amazing Denise!
Loved this!!! I am a Schmincke die hard!
And I thought I was the only one going completely overboard with those Schminckes ^^' My palette by now got roundabout 50 colours with some additional Van Gogh's that - no matter how hard I try wouldn't want to fit into my tin box ^^'
But them again, for me here in Geemany, opposite to your experience, the colours are quite some cheaper than DS's.
I have a new class on Skillshare about making a customized palette if you're interested!
I will check on it soon! Thank you
Really enjoyed this video.
I think the Schmincke are on sale again, or at least they were when I ordered mine haha. Darn them and their tempting sales!
I moved my schmincke 36 set (in a metal tin) to a meeden 24 set tin , I got in and I for in 37 colors cause I added an opaque white for highlights !
oooh I love this, thank you. DROOLING over that tin!!!
LazyStray I’m thinking on getting the 48 half pans set, do you know if they have vibrant colors?
You have a lot of beautiful colors there Dennise, probably a little too many yellows, but that happens when you put together different palettes. You said you’re using the Arche paper, but which one,hot press or cold? Thank you so much😀
Which warm yellow would you recommend?
I love the 18 half pan palette. It sits beautifully in my hand and balances well. Concerns thanks to arthritis .to bad it is not availab)e all of the time. I also love the mixing area as it is a little larger than the old fashioned ...and has an edge that dont make dripping onto my work or cloths a thing of the past....you have connections..someone needs to tell daniel smith that this is what they shoukd have done for their palettes. Their plastic palettes were an insult to their beautiful paints. Thank you for sharing your selection from schmincke..
I love using raw sienna. I know you will too! Nice haul 😯😯😯
Have you tried their transparent yellow ochre? I do like that one quite a bit, for an ochre.
I think I did on their 2017 color swatch card if I remember correctly? I recall it being hard to rewet, but I don't have extensive use with it.
oh i'm really jealous of that white nights tin. i just got their 24 set last week and when i tell you the palette it comes with is terrible. i only had a meeden 25 half pan tin to use for it so i have to use them condensed into 12 paints until i find a new home for them!
Is it the plastic one you're referring to? I don't have one of those myself, but I don't know why they don't use these metal ones - they're amazing!
yep the large plastic one that comes with their 24 & 36 pan sets. maybe one day they will bring those to the states but im not counting on it.
If I ever want to setup a new custom palett, I'm sending my paints and palette of choice to you to organize and swatch for me. Along with return shipping.... lol
Haha :)
love that palette aaaahhh!!
Nice palette set up. 💞💫
So JELLY!! ;) I LOVE that White Nights palette!!!
Anyway great video as always. Great job!
Does the Holbein or the Sennelier tube paints pour as smoothly into pans as the Schmincke
Some of the Sennelier do. I haven't poured Holbein, so I don't know, but I think those are more solid.
Thank you for responding.
Nice video. Great palette
Buying the sets is the least expensive way to get a large selection of colors without paying big money - sets cost about 1/3 of what they contain. I picked up the 48 1/2 pan set for 270US. Special Edition Sets usually have colors not in the big 48 set, so they expand your palette for less money too...
It is if you'll use the colors in the sets! If not, it's less expensive to buy colors you'll actually enjoy and use :)
Now I need to find that one with the metal pan holders too 😂
Ooo do you have a link?
In Liquid Color www.jacksonsart.com/empty-diagonal-plastic-molding-metal-watercolour-box-will-hold-12-half-pans I got you lol
Thank you for posting this link!
i wanna set up a 48 schmincke palette as well, i looove the paint so much. gonna have to buy them in bits though, they're so expensive
Natálie Vacková like I mentioned in the video, three years! It takes a while, but I'm so happy with the outcome :)
Hi, when you say you use size #2 brush does that mean the 2 or the 2/0? I've never learned the difference. Thanks!
It's a size 2. I'm not positive but I think the ones over /0 are smaller.
thank you SO much for your response.
Does the schminke set of 48 have vibrant colors?
Tubes or halfpans ???
I am new on watercolor painting so i am curious about how you manage to get other shades of colors? Did you just buy it somewhere ? :O
Thank you, Denise! So am I, I am sure he is smiling down at me taking over from him. :-) The blue tack-idea is brilliant! :-)
Ana Markozashvili I love those exact colors too! So great!
yay!
I appreciate anyone's advice and time, if they feel like sharing.
Why did you do every other color first?
To allow the paints to dry, so as not to get mixes. ;)
Hi Lilian, I do not know for certain, but I do believe if there is no ad, no revenue is generated. Thanks for asking!
Oh, it doesn't look like they have any more 48 half pan White Nights Palettes. Only the 12 and 24. Shucks!
the schmincke tubes and pans as a single are so damn cheap here, i live on the german border on the dutch side - I can wave Hi to our friend Sadie,lol- , these retail here for around 4 euro.
You prefer sennelier over schmincke?
Which yellow orange do you have?
I fully agree that their 12 color set is among some of my LEAST favorite colors in my entire collection - I'm not sure why they include them. I do know that naming is different in Europe than it is here. it's not wrong, just different. Helio is their phthalo colors. I don't remember which yellow orange I have. I do know there was a discrepancy between my label and the brochure, but I don't know which was which.
Maybe pitch 'em an 'OCD' Christmas set, with 12 single pigments :). I really liked the design for the Akademie set, and would love a 2018 special with artist grade paints.
PB29 (UB), PB15:3 (Phthalo Blue), Quin Rose, Pyrolle Scarlet, PY110 (Indian Yellow), PY3 (Yellow Lemon), PG7 (Phthalo Green), Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Venitian Red, Burnt Umber, Neutral Tint
There you go Schmincke, job done. Stick a Da Vinci travel brush in, and stick your bear painting on, and I'd drop 150 euro any day of the week! 🤣
Hey if Jane can get a set, why not...
The reviews and information you give is wonderful! It is however difficult to listen “and go ahead” repeated so often.
It's already been noted, lol.
My name is Siana I like raw sienna
I just wanted to let you know that Graham in M. Graham is pronounced (Gray-am).
