19:02 PG19 is not a chromium pigment; it’s a cobalt pigment. I think PG50 cobalt green is closest in hue. I’m not sure how similar both are to PG17.

I recently got the Volcano Yellow and the Volcano Red. I can mix a multitude of Super Granulating with other pigments that I already had (PB29, PB36, PG18, PG50, PV62, PR233, PBk11...). It was a more economical and versatile solution for me.

The forest blue is absolutely my favorite of these and I have a 15mL tube of it and used it in the forest/mountainy background of one of my illustrations.

Thanks! This was honest and concise. Good to hear what you migt use the colours for. I appreciate the yellow and red - and bought them to make my own mixes. There is repetition in the colours, I would buy the mono pigment tubes and make the mixes. Volcano Yellow (PY 153) shows up 14 times in the mixes, Ultramarine Blue 11 times, red ( Pr108) 9 times, for example (counting all the collections) My guess is that you can buy less than 20 of Schmincke's single pigment tubes and mix all 9 collections, 45 colours total. And...you still have the single pigments to use on their own. The videos from Alice Lim got me thinking...thanks for swatching. Thanks foroetting you w about the creative retreat. I had not heard about it at all.

A little late to the party but the Tundra Orange and Tundra Violet together make a fantastic range of interesting greys for rocky landscapes. Tundra was my first set (in the 5ml tubes) and I quickly bought the orange and violet in the large tubes when I used up the originals. About ready to buy the bigger Tundra blue - it's great for diluted out for cold winter skies.

Tundra Violet let loose creates a orangy halo I sometimes really like.
But the heavy price tag keeps me away from temptiation...mostly.

Hullo Denise, I have a very small Schminke Watercolor collection. I purchased a split primary “set” when I was looking for a brand to use when I came back to painting on paper. I spent 15 years or so working in digital mediums only. I had forsaken the use of paint and paper to get better with the digital workflow. I only have 6 colors and I simply made the decision Schminke was to expensive to get as my go to brand! If I lived in Europe I would consider Schminke a front runner for my go to paint brand! I was taught with Grumbacher professional grade paints, I even used them in college. I tried many different brands growing up, but I just never jumped off the Grumbacher wagon! When I decided to come back my local art store was closing and they had 3 tubes of watercolor paint, I don’t remember what they were but I just thought I had better find a newer brand. I bought a lot of split primaries and picked mijello mission gold for my studio palette. I had plenty of paints to make travel palettes. I have to say I was floored when after I watched one of your videos and discovered DaVinci Paints! Now the have taken over everywhere! I simply have never been so taken with a paint brand! Thank you. I have purchased Steve Mitchell’s M.Graham set and of course I am just not happy with his limited choices, so I have found a wonderful auction on e-bay and expanded my choices of M. Graham paints. I doubt that they will supplant DaVinci but I never want to be close minded about paints. Well except my disappointment with DanSmith and their horrible customer service and unswerving lies they refuse to acknowledge about the Primatek paints! Sorry I can go on about that. I enjoyed watching your video as you create wonderful videos and are so relaxed and assured I just like you and your manner of conveying information about watercolors. Again Thank You. Please take care, be safe and have a lovely day.

I'm so tempted by forest blue every time I see it, but just don't have a place for it. Forest grey, however, went on my palette *immediately* when it first came out, though, and has never left. I too LOVE that dank, nasty green, and it's been super behaved across the board for me in painting. I hope you dig it if you end up picking it up and using it!

@@InLiquidColor Yesss!!! I'm also a long time chromium oxide green fan and find the handling is similar (though I use schmincke's) where it's just really nice and velvety and wakes up nicely, just with, you know, a nice n' hefty dose of nasty :D I hope it's to you soon and you enjoy it loads!

Great video - thanks. I bought quite a few of these colors and frankly, I don't use them as much as I thought I would. I do use Volcano brown; useful for tree bark/branches. I have used Shire green and it's odd - I find I have to keep getting more and more out of the tube; it gets used up so quickly. I do agree they are not great at glazing. My philosophy with these is to use them on their own with lots of water and let their unique granulating qualites shine through.

I just splurged on my first Schmincke paints - the Vulcan colors in 15 ml tubes. I've only opened one tube, the Vulcan Orange, but I was super disappointed. When I opened it, nothing but binder came out, and not until the entire (large Quiller) well was full did any sign of pigment appear. What a mess, trying to spoon it into a small porcelain dish and mix it up and spoon it back into two palletes. Then when I used it along with DS Lunar Blue and Ultramarine Blue, on nice Arches cold press, it didn't granulate at all, though they did, nicely.
I use mostly Daniel Smith and M Graham. This was my first experience with Schmincke; I was really excited about it, because I love granulation, but I was really frustrated and sad and felt like I wasted my money. 😔

I agree that shire blue and shire grey are the best out of the set (i couldnt resist buying the set because shire). But i will say, the dot cards don't do the other three in the set justice (i dont own a lot of greens so they could be useful for me) - rewetting those three is a horrible time.
