Star Trek ranges from 2151 (Enterprise first season) to 2390ish (Picard) TOS is set in the 2260s and TNG in the 2360s There are some bits of Discovery taking place in the 3000s as well. Official First Contact between Earth and aliens is set on the 5th of April 2063 in Bozeman, Montana.
About your "better weapons" : I think the word is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Humans did not encounter any aliens they could not kill with conventional weapons, so they just kept using the same thing that works. Notice that they have a kind of gun that shoots a huge explosion at the end : "we've got the weapons". They finally realized the universe is more dangerous than they thought. About the critics score vs audience score : There has been a controversy about wether this movie were an apology to facism or not. Of course, everyone who knows Verhoeven or just looked for subtext see it's a harsh critique of facism and how a nice young man can become a ruthless killing machine who do not hesitate to sacrifice soldiers for the "good of humanity".
Whats missing is the power armor suits they should have been wearing - in the books they drop from orbit in power armor suits that have limited flight capability and enough firepower to rival a tank. They didnt show any suits till the third movie ( i think ) there is also a cartoon series where they have power armor from the late 90's or early 2000's

The book was written in the early to mid 50's. We know what they're playing as Arena Football. This was the first of I think 5 movies. The saying of "Who wants to live forever" is from WWI US Marine of the Second Infantry Division, Sgt Dale, who won the CMH 3 times.
9:20 There are science fiction universes where snail mail carried by spaceships is the only way send information. There are other universes where interstellar communications are insanely expensive, and most communication is done through snail mail.
This was loosely adapted from the novel of the same name by U.S. Navy veteran Robert A. Heinlein. The actor playing Johnny Rico, Casper Van Dien, recently provided his voice in the first person shooter Starship Troopers: Extermination. Ace is played by Jake Busey, the son of Gary Busey
You're in for a real treat with Robocop and Total Recall (Hollow Man not so much). Maybe try out Basic Instinct as well if you haven't seen it. One thing that amuses me about Starship Troopers is that it's intended to be a satire on the "rah rah obliterate the alien other" style war movie, but it has spawned a movie series that generally drops the satire in favor of the righteous action. Personally I think this movie doesn't hit its satire quite as effectively as it wanted to. Also, JUSTICE FOR DIZZY!
Well as crappy as the sequels are they are more true to the book. Heinleins book "Starship Troopers" is often misconstrued as "Fascist" but if you read it no one in the Federation is oppresed. Citizens are still allowed to own businesses, gain wealth and generally lead a productive life. Its just that Voting is limited to those who actually are willing to put their time and lives on the line for the entire Federation. While the military is the primary way Citizenship is also extended to Police/Firefighters and really anyone who uses their time and efforts to better the federation, even voluteering to help other citizens may qualify one for Citizenship. Its a critique, and a thought exercise of what happens when those who have no "skin in the game" have a say and what comes out when things are restruchered to where only those who have paid in get to make the big decisions.

I think the reason why RTs score differ from critic to audience is because when it came out, it was delayed numerous times. I think it was almost a year until it was finally released. Because I always remembered seeing the trailer and waiting in anticipation for it to be released.....watching trailer....again, and again, and again. And when it was finally released, a lot of us didn't expect this type of filming. And I do recall it didn't fill seats in the theater. And one last thing, it was supposed to be a summer movie but got pushed ALL the way into the fall. When people were looking forward to more "homely" type of movies. No one wanted to see blood and gore during the holidays back then. It didn't get big until home video and when it became a cult classic. I did love it when it came out. But the wait and delays hurt the release of the film.
It's still kinda hard for me to believe that people who had been professional movie critics for a while at the time failed to see the satire on militarism and fascism in this. It's not like they talk about the "failure of democracy" in the beginning, that "service guarantees citizenship", that you need a license to have children... and obviously it's not like you have people running around in what could easily pass for Gestapo and SS Uniforms. In reference to his first big role as the chlid prodigy "Doogie Howser", the cast and crew apparently had a nickname for Neil Patrick Harris on set - they called him Doogie Himmler 😂
It's even harder to believe, that ANYONE would find a single fascistic thing in this film. The Federation is a polar opposite of fascism. Verhoven didn't read the book - he just asked Neumeyer for a summary, and then he tried to make a satire of fascism, by basing the society in his film on a genuine democratic utopia, and it backfired spectacularly. Even if Verhoven deliberately left out part of the oath the characters take "to uphold, and defend the constitutional liberties of all citizens, and other lawful residents of the Federation". The uniforms is about the extent of fascism in this film. And the book, half of which is dedicated to what Verhoven tried doing in a single scene (in the classroom) explains well this "faliure of democracy". Basically, it comes down to the fact that when voting rights were universal, people didn't appreciate the value of what they had (since the cost to acquire something is an integral part of its value). Then they became convinced they could get something for free, simply by voting for it, which tended to result in electing unworthy politicians who promised them things. And then there's the problem of responsibility. Political authority that comes from the right to vote, and influence the politics of the state has to be balanced with an equal responsibility. In Heinlein's words - to permit irresponsible authority is to sow disaster; to make a man responsible for something he does not control, is to behave with blind idiocy. When people were not responsible for how they voted, they could vote for anything. And if they voted for the impossible, then the inevitable happened, and suddenly they had to take responsibility they didn't want, resulting from the choices they made. Which is why franchise (the only benefit of citizenship) has to be earned through service, by accepting ultimate responsibility for the state, if you wish to have authority over it. As for license to have children, that's one of the dumbest lines in the film, added willy-nilly, and never explained, or explored. The way the government runs things, which is very hands-off, they have no way (that was shown) of enforcing such a ban - there is no strict government control of resources, services, or anything like that. What there is, is plenty of people who seem to have no trouble whatsoever, having babies - Rico's parents (both civilians), Breckenridge (farmers) has a large family. Shujumi got into Harvard, but couldn't afford tuition. Yet even in the movie, it is clearly stated that the right to vote is not simply a reward for doing federal service, and being "loyal". It's literally a mandate to use violence - you don't reward people with permission for violence. It's a responsibility, allowed only for those who have accepted responsibility for the authority they are entrusted with.
@@jakubfabisiak9810 You are a shallow thinker. How long do you think the Federation existed, and what makes you think Rico's parents weren't citizens in the movie? Heinlein had really screwed up views and his "glibertarianism" was phony.
@@dnish6673 the Federation has existed for "generations" at that point. And it's obvious Rico's parents were not citizens (in the film, his father is very much against doing federal service. In the book, it is explicitly stated, and he later enlists). The only thing you've proven is that you're one of those who shouldn't be allowed to vote. The message of the book is clear - authority and responsibility have to be equal, and voting rights have to be earned to truly appreciate their value. People that oppose this idea are exactly the kind of freeloaders who want authority without responsibility, and they fear that they would either lose their privileges, or else have to pay the cost of acquisition.
@@jakubfabisiak9810 Is this something that you also believe in by any chance? That the right to partake in decision making should be dependent on a willingness to submit entirely to the prevailing order? Awfully convenient for those who hold the reins of power. I wonder how many sons and daughters of Sky Marshals end up assigned to the Mobile Infantry and deployed as shock troops?
I always thought just like there is mental evolution producing psychics in this setting, there is evolution producing physical improvments which is why the football moves seemed so extraordinary. Never read the book to see if they say anything on that line.
I asked myself the very same question you did, when the Bugs were attacking the outpost in mass numbers: where were the explosives? We know the MI Troopers carries small rocket-launched nukes for the Bugholes, but launched far enough away they really would have wiped out a lot of the Bugs.
If you haven't yet seen any interviews or such with Paul Verhoeven, checking one out would explain to you why someone said 'Why Dina?' concerning the naked shower scene. Paul is such a passionate director that was like giving candy to a baby. Truly must've been one of those 'don't get him started' moments.
22:23 A parachute not opening… that’s a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine… having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that’s the way I wanna go!
Verowack, you were wondering why the troopers used bullets in their weapons so much when, in the time setting, 168 years from now, the technology would have moved beyond bullets. The answer, I think, is that science fiction about the future is described in the technology of the day. A professor of mine once said, "Jules Verne predicted that people would go to the moon, but he did not predict that we would be watching the moon landing at home on television."
Zim (the Drill Instructor) got demoted for destroying Rico's Drop Out paperwork, thats why he destroyed it, Breaking Bad Hank had said the only way he would see combat was if he got demoted so he did something to get demoted.
I remember seeing this in the theater. When I walked out I had enjoyed the movie and had even spoke out during just before the anti-ship bugs had launched the "goop" into space. I said loudly "Oh no! Bug farts!" the entire theater laughed. After getting to my car I turned to the others with me and said" That was the best worst bug movie I've ever seen."
Great reaction, i remember watching this movie when i was 12 and loved the effects, the brain sucking scene is so funny. would love to see you watch some Star Trek, tv show/films, their big event is First Contact which i think is 2063 which is only 39 years away
I adore this movie, not only is it a fun silly sci-fi action flick with lots of quotable lines but the satirical twist just makes feel a bit more than just a goofy over the top flick the terran command was a fun game that could have expanded a bit more >
Heinlein wrote Starship Troopers as a protest against the "peace at any cost" crowd. Like a lot of his writing, it's a trese on his libertarian political beliefs. But the writers of this movie just bought the rights to the novel when their story had too many elements of the Heinlein novel. Verhoven never read the whole book and considered it fascist. The controversy of Starship Troopers being a fascist tome is one of those classic debates. Heinlein wrote Stranger in a Strange Land after writing this which gave him legions of hippie fans in the 1960s. Thus the essential dichotomy of Heinlein. The novel was more of a call of service than a fascist tome. The US service academies have them on their reading list because of this service ideology. But the debate still rages. Heinlein was a Naval officer and his novel started a whole sub gerene of military science fiction. His co Ed military world was a change though. Women served as pilots and other roles, but not in combat in the original novel.
17:07 faster but more dangerous, if she didn't alter the path they would have been able to see and give Earth a heads-up about the incoming Meteor that destroyed their communication equipment. 20:25 my favorite quote of this movie hahahahaha
Physical kinetic bullets are reliable, and are likely to damage anything. Other weapons (lasers, sonic - not that I know much about them, but from other sci fi) often have something that they don't have an effect on. Besides - "force, my friend, is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived." Blunt force trauma fits that mentality really well.
Glad you watched it. One of my most favs. It is one of those movies that is fun to watch, lmao you said it while typing, it is somewhat today's video games. Noticed other movies you're watching and I need to check them out (just one never watched), but I dub you as a Starship Trooper. "Come on you apes, do you want to live forever?" Sorry my meme I do treasure... I'm weird sorry.
1That one thing about this film, which most will say paranoid, but way this film does it, propaganda. Hate to throw this here, it made me aware of our own propaganda. I am conscious enough now to ignore the bs, just give me what one stands for and let me decipher at that point. Again, your first time? Where the hell have you been, lmao. Glad you watch it and enjoy it. It's a fun movie!
Drill Sargeant Zim is Clancy Brown. His 2 other big parts where as the Kurgan in Highlander and as the head guard in The Shawshank Redemption. But Id bet you and most other people know him, or at least his voice, from somewhere else. To quote the character "I like Money". Yes Clancy Browns probably highest earning job is as the voice of Eugene Krabs on Spongebob Squarepants.
This is one of those movies which got a bad reputation at release for various reasons. Among people who actually gave it a chance it would probably be rated 85 while random people who half watched it and prejudged it gave it 50s.
The best definition I ever hear for camp, is that it's comedic but played 100% straight. Think of how serious Adam West and Burt Ward are in the old Batman TV series, the epitome of camp. Starship Troopers is definitely campy. But there's a line somewhere, I think, because American Werewolf In London is also a comedy played straight, but it's somehow not campy. Maybe the type of comedy makes a difference?
So... many.. quotable lines!!! What is your favourite movie quote?

This movie is the ultimate war satire, even though the novel is very controversial, it's an impressive Sci Fi Action Adventure film.
Book is AMAZING. Was actually on the Senior Enlisted recommended reading list for the Navy a while back. Not sure if it still is or not. Enjoyed the movie but it is a completely different thing.
I think the satire might account for the difference in Rotten Tomato scores that seem reversed from what is normally expected.
The film is not a good satire.
The easiest thing they could have done was to humanize the arachnids. They didn't.
Next easiest would be showing us negative consequences of legislation. They didn't.
@@yodieyuh It does, however, produce the wonderful effect of having the less bright fellas arguing the satire angle sound like they'd question why a zombie's existence should be considered less valuable that their own in a zombie apocalypse.
@@VestinVestin
Not sure what you're actually trying to say. Which zombie satire are you referring to?
Arachnids that aren't humanized and zombies that aren't humanized are both less valuable than humans in general.
47:10 my short definition of campy is tongue in cheek. Everyone involved knows how silly it is and overact and double down on the comedy. Most have these characteristics (not exclusively); cheesy lines delivered ironically, hammy vaudeville type acting, a lot of nods to the audience, extravagence and often quickwitted jokes
“You wanna live forever ?” Quote is also from “Conan the Barbarian “
Quote is actually from Daniel Daly, a us marine during wwi
Star Trek ranges from 2151 (Enterprise first season) to 2390ish (Picard) TOS is set in the 2260s and TNG in the 2360s There are some bits of Discovery taking place in the 3000s as well. Official First Contact between Earth and aliens is set on the 5th of April 2063 in Bozeman, Montana.
About your "better weapons" :
I think the word is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Humans did not encounter any aliens they could not kill with conventional weapons, so they just kept using the same thing that works.
I was dying wondering why you looked so familiar. Then I realized it, I watched a few of your videos during my Rogue Tower obsession a couple years ago. Always love Starship Troopers reacts, so um... keep up the entertaining work?
Father: "you are going to Harvard"
Verowak: "Does he have the grades?"
You are too precious for this world. lol
I don't care what anyone says. This movie is a masterpiece.
Now you know, why Ace did not want Jody Foster to make first contact! ;)
But now I am also going to "P".
Love your Channel greetings from Germany
I'm glad to hear it! Greetings from Canada! 👋

The book was written in the early to mid 50's. We know what they're playing as Arena Football. This was the first of I think 5 movies. The saying of "Who wants to live forever" is from WWI US Marine of the Second Infantry Division, Sgt Dale, who won the CMH 3 times.
Thanks l couldn't remember the Marine's name
I can't wait for the live action Voltron movie to be made.
I know it's going to be a cool movie
Fantastic reaction to this iconic 90s sci fi movie. I miss the 90s my childhood
9:20 There are science fiction universes where snail mail carried by spaceships is the only way send information. There are other universes where interstellar communications are insanely expensive, and most communication is done through snail mail.
34:43 Not to worry, we are still flying half a ship. 🚢

What you're talking about... Hollow Man is sn great movie
@@Gusr404the vfx in “Hollow Man” are intense and pretty incredible. Kind of runs out of steam towards the end and becomes somewhat conventional, although definitely worth seeing. Not a perfect movie, but I’d say Verhoeven delivers the goods.
That drill instructor is the voice of Mr. Krabs on SpondeBob Squarepants
I've never seen SpongeBob, so I never would have guessed 😅
@@VerowakReactsWOW just wow. Okay Sponge Bob SquarePants movies 1 and 2 are on the list now? Also Clancy Brown was in Highlander the first movie. Pathfinder. As well.
I can't wait to see you review/watch Total Recall and Robocop!
Movie battle sequences filmed at Hells Half Acre, Wyoming. 50 miles west of Casper. It was a big deal at the time.
And the blind teacher I. Bug class was Blanche in Golden Girls lol
This is just a fun movie. I love Lady Vero's sense of humor, to cool. I enjoyed this movie, fun stories, fun action and cool humor.
I'm glad you enjoy my sense of humour 🤣
You're on a roll! First Tremors now Starship Troopers? My childhood coming back to smack me in the face haha I dare you to watch Tremors 2 now lol
Jamie Palomino as the trainee co-pilot was a wonderful surprise.
The actress playing Dizz was also in Saw 2 thru 5
By ciming🎉along with the reaction, leaving a 👍 and commenting, I have done my part to support my queen. Hope you're doing great Verowak, I have enjoyed your reactions the moment I came across one of your reactions however long ago back it was. You are absolutely beautiful and gorgeous, i will always get the scoop on your reactions even if I have to wait until after a day of work or whatever the situation may be. I'd like to know more about you and discuss film and series reactions along with our respective views on certain said film and series. This was a great great reaction BTW
Thank you! You managed to put so many references to this movie in 1 comment!!! 🤩 Colour me impressed :D
@VerowakReacts you are absolutely welcome beautiful. You absolutely make my day when your reactions come out. I honestly would like to discuss film and series with you and know you better, if you're interested in doing so
This time in the late 1990s produced the best looking visual FX films ever, and Starship Troopers tops them all in terms of looks.
Im surprised you played the starship trooper rts lol, thats pretty cool

"....... are they far enough ?....... "
They were in the opening credits. I bet they'll make it .
Basic Instinct is also another Verhoven film that's a great ride also.
Star trek Enterprise: 100 years from now
TOS: 2260s
TNG 2360s
Picard 2401
First Contact: 2063
WW3: 2050
Enterprise starts 127 years from now, but yes.
I'm pretty sure the line "do you want to live forever?" appears in a Arnold's movie too.
Good one. Cool movie 🎥. Great reaction. Nice job 👍🏼
The bugs look very similar to the Zerg race from the StarCraft game.
Diz was always best girl.
Not everyone is good at their jobs 🤣
The movie has more than a few plot holes.
Black Book is another great Verhoeven movie.
I watched this in the theater. It's was good to have a decent fun action film.
I've got the boxed Avalon Hill boardgame "Starship Troopers". Fun game.
Paul also made Total Recall and that is a good one too..
46:23 Fewer blank rounds were used on the set of _Rust_ (upcoming film).
22:23 A parachute not opening… that’s a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine… having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that’s the way I wanna go!
Die while screwing is mine.
I definitely want to dive into Star Trek once I finish Star Wars on Patreon. That'll be a fun franchise to check out I think
@@VerowakReacts Fantastic, been a fan of Trek for about 35 yrs so will be fun to see your perspective.
This movie has such a great following for something that shouldn't have been as popular.
It definitely has a big following yeah
Never thought of it as satire… but I guess that explains why I feel bad for the bugs. 🙃
I adore this movie, not only is it a fun silly sci-fi action flick with lots of quotable lines but the satirical twist just makes feel a bit more than just a goofy over the top flick
the terran command was a fun game that could have expanded a bit more >
I'm tempted to play that game again now that I've seen the movie lol

Absolutely! I love how expansive the universe was and what we got to see of it
@@VerowakReactsthe 2nd movie is more physiological thriller and the 3rd is good campy like the first one .
First time I've ever heard anyone question that Johnny could go to Harvard with his grades and I thought "yeahhhh".
Love this movie. Gets a lot of hate and the book is much deeper and such but this is fun!
I've never seen SpongeBob, so I definitely didn't know he was in it lol
There cannot be a poll on Verhoeven movies. Robocop and Total Recall are must watch.
