For anyone wondering what improvements this made for my 02 4Runner. I just installed the 3 solenoid, filter, and 5 quart fluid (of 12)replace NOW IT SHIFTS LIKE BRAND NEW. I was just hoping it would clean up sloppy shifts BUT IT FIXED way MORE. It kicks down gears SOOOO much faster. If you're in overdrive cruising and full throttle, it NO LONGER applies full throttle to overdrive for 1/2 second to 1 second. It now kicks down the gear/s before the pedal is even at the floor. It literally made this horribly slow suv a tad bit faster just because there isnt lag before the kickdown anymore. It was also holding 2nd gear excessively long sometime. Not an issue anymore. And it was shifting a little soft when light throttle shift to 2nd. NO MORE!! Nice firm complete shift fully engaged. IM PRETTY STOKED!!! My 02 4runner has 185k miles. I did the 1st 5 quart drain and fill with a new filter at 100k miles about 10 years ago so the fluid still looked brand new red, no burnt smell(even though i live in the desert 120+ summers). All she needed was new solenoids. Do it now before you cook the trans!
Exactly my problem...long delayed shift in second gear...but now also when i reach 50mph...i can give it gas but wont accelerate very well. How much did that replacement cost?
My 1987 4runner would not shift to 1st. gear after coming to a stop sign. The way around that was shift manually, the problem ended up being the shift solenoid as described in this great! video. I had the transmission shop change out all 3 solenoids for safe measure. The parts were not expensive.
I have a 2nd get 1993 wlte automatic transmission its having an issue with the gear shifting timings and 4th gear is not coming up is it he same solenoid issues?? Can you help me with this ?
Great video bro, I'm going to do mine very soon here. I just got my solenoids from RockAuto, very fast to Edmonton Alberta. They were a bit pricy due to exchange but oh well Waaa! I'll be doing it at a rental garage end of the month. I lost my last gear. Will not go into overdrive. I think I'll just change all three. Cheers!

Thanks for the video. Question. I have a 2006 v6 Tacoma and my code is P2714 pressure control solenoid "D" performance(shift solenoid valve SLT) so I was wondering if I need to do the same thing or if I have a completely different problem? If you could give me a little advice please I would appreciate it and would be willing to wire you some money for going out of your way to help me. Thanks
Do you have a part number for the shift solenoid? Also, was this from an error code? Mine keeps coming up as P0770 (shift solenoid E), but I don't notice any problems shifting...super fun.
I've got a 92 Cressida. The transmission was fine, then it wouldn't go into gear. I felt like it was a solonoids, so I unhooked the battery, and then started it back up, and was able to drive it perfectly for about a mile, then same thing. Its like I put it in neutral. Shift control, solonoids? Any ideas would be appreciated.
@@MyAccountBitch that's what I've narrowed it down to. Shift control, or computer. The fact that it works fine, for a time, EVERY time, makes me think it's a wiring issue too. Do you get a check engine light or anything? I've posted a full length version of this video that shows you how to read the engine light codes pre 1995
Where are people buying reputable new solenoids for the A340h? I think all of mine are probably cooked as they’re in an 89 4runner that hasn’t had much tlc in its life before I got to it. 230k miles means it’s shifting super hard from 2 to 3 and into reverse. Not sure if they correspond to certain solenoids but I plan on doin all
When an engine dies it's usually due to air or fuel. Transmission doesn't really seem like it would be the cause 🤔 you might just need a tune up... Spark plugs, fuel filter, cleaning the airways... Maybe a MAF sensor... Could be a number of things! Probably nothing major though... Just gonna be a lot of research and trial and error. The joys of owning older vehicles 😂
So someone told me that their 1988 4runner had to be shifted into 1st, then 2nd, and then into drive. That it wouldn't shift up normally if you just put it in drive. would all those solenoids have something to do with that ?
@@angelinaperillo4127 dang, this was when i was looking at a for sale listing trying to figure out if I should buy it or not. Long gone now, but thanks for the reply!
Do the other 2 solenoids come out just as easy as that one? having issues with shifting and thinking about just replacing all 3 if it's as simple as just unbolting and plugging new ones in.
My 97 T100 SR5 4x4 is having all sorts of shifting issues. Jumps immediately from second to third and it won't engage top gear I shift it into D and it disengages completely so I can only drive out about 30 MPH. I bought a complete shop manual set that covers the entire truck, but I don't have diagnostic tools. I'm gonna try this first and hope like hell it solves it and I don't have to dick with it no more. Because I can't find a shop anywhere near me that services Toyota transmissions.
Mine just started slipping on first gear when taking off after a stop. When engages slams and takes off loads hard on rear end? Only does here and there just started rest of time shifts fine?
mine would never go in revers unless you would drive it for a good while. then the 3rd shifting to 4th would take for ever to shift. It gave me the code for 62. I believe solenoid #1 is the issue.
Hey man my 93 4runner started having shifting problems I'm think it's the shift solenoids because I drives & shift amazing once I get to speed & or the truck has warmed up. How much you think the labor would be not including parts to replace the 3 shift solenoids?
I couldn't find a shop to do it. They wanted to do a rebuild. That's why I did it myself. It took me a few hours. I'm sure a shop could do it in a couple of they were willing. My solenoid alone was almost $300 though. I think there's cheaper aftermarket ones though. You'll have to do some looking around.

+carlsbiz1 if the lock solenoid goes your truck will have a hard time getting going from a stop. will feel like your e brake is on. then it will buck like a bronco for the first few feet when it does start moving.

Hi, I have an 05 tundra with shifting problems. Drives good from 1st to 2nd or say 30 mph or if I whack it; 50mph then it revs freely. and if I floor some more it wud engage with a very violent thud like I got smacked in the rear. Throws up code P2716. What's your advice?
alexander uzoechina I'm not familiar with the toyota tundra transmission, but if this solenoid controls shifting pressures, and either is not working, or possibly sticking sometimes, this could lead to hard shifting as you describe. If you have not changed the tranny fluid in a very long time it can also sometimes cause valve body sticking problems like this due to debris built up in the valves, or the coil in the solinoid could be fried. Since it is a moving part and all moving parts eventually wear out thats what I would suspect first.
