agreed. I'm a pc owner looking to pick up a mac, and i mostly only drawn by the amazing screen and just how well the software works with the hardware. I probably won't convert for the very reason you just mentioned though, they always seem to be one step behind the times in terms of tech...
@TheNiliPerson Hold it correctly then. It's not supposed to be "grasped" like traditional mice, it's supposed to be "clawed". It's that flat so the touch gestures are comfortable to use. It takes a little getting used to but when you work out how to hold it properly it's as comfortable as any other mouse.
This is a great, "Blast from the Past". I have always been sad that, Apple, Inc. never included a Blue-Ray DVD player or any any other HD DVD player with any of their computer models (smile...smile).
@MyNikeKicks yes you can! it has a Mini DisplayPort input/output so you'll just need an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort adapter and the setup is ready. BUT the 21.5" wont do the trick! its mini displayport is ONLY output so you cant use its display for any other purpose than the mac itself.
well it depends. On some things apple did lag behind (it used ppc instead of intel until 2006) but it does lead the way in other things (first computer with nehalem processor was the mac pro, pioneered Firewire and the mini displayport). As of right now I don't think this computer is lagging behind on anything, especially if you get the quad-core model (which is basically futureproof).
It defies reason that the USB ports & audio ports are on the back of the iMac. Not only is it inconvenient to access the ports, but it makes it more likely that users will leave cables connected to the iMac, so as not to need to struggle to reconnect the cables, over and over again. Thus, cables will constantly clutter the work space of this supposedly streamlined computer. What's the point of wireless mouse & keyboard when there will be so many cables dangling from the back of this computer?
@ 1:47 Isn't that false info? Any output from Mini-Displayport can be connected to the iMac, not from Mini-DVI. At least thats what I have read everywhere.
Honestly, If I were going to shell out $1600 for a luxury.. I would either: #1: Get a RMZ250 #2: Custom build a Hackintosh that would make that 27in iMac look like bawls. Never the less, slick iMac
You know a generation or two before this one they used that black plastic backing which in my opinoin looked better. Like they say black gives the illusion of thinness; with this new silver finish the back looks bulbous otherwise it's a stunning machine. I'm thinking of getting one even though I have a Mac Pro and a 30" setup.
@googoo120 I tried pricing up a tower system with the same hardware (or as close as possible considering they use some custom bits like the logicboard). It cost more than the iMac and that wasn't even including any of the software (ie no OS). So yep, you're right, these things are brilliant value for what they are.
27-inch iMac Part Number: Z0GF 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB 1TB Serial ATA Drive ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 8x double-layer SuperDrive Apple Magic Mouse Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) and User's Guide Final Cut Express preinstalled Aperture preinstalled Microsoft Office Mac 2008 - Home and Student Edition ORDERED!
They will on the next update. Next upgrade will probably be in June so you might have to wait sometime. I'm just curious if when they do upgrade the macbook pro's around this time if they will finally go blu-ray. Another thing I'm curious about is that since the new iMacs are in 16:9 aspect ratio for the screens (older versions of imacs & macbook pros are in 16:10) are the laptops going to go to 16:9 aspect ratio also??? Many of the newer laptops that Dell & HP offer are in 16:9 aspect ratio.
Yeah I know. It's a lovely thing. I'm getting the C2D variant basic as I feel that it will be FAR good enough for me. What are you gonna do to use up an i7?
The wireless features are really bad. The battery only lasts a few months and it's a hassle taking the batteries out and buying new ones or recharging them. You want something straight forward that doesn't need worrying about. I've also tried out the magic mouse and it's very flat which makes it quite uncomfortable especially if you're going to use the computer for a long period of time. I'm just going to stick with the wired keyboard and mouse.
@using192 :P well my PC was crappy so I had the worst experience and I like Mac cuz u can hav normal day to day stuff and u can hav games, with PC its either gaming or day to day usage. And the style of the Mac looks nicer than most PC moniters
@takishan Macs are fine for gaming. Just install Windows on it and you have a pretty damn decent gaming machine. It wouldn't be the most powerful thing in the world, but it can play games. Also, there's nothing about OS X that says it can't do games as good as Windows, it's just that publishers simply aren't making their games for OS X.
@plokkkkkkk Maybe PC doesnt cost that alone but after all the damn repairs and new harddrives it cost a lot, and iMac had it all in one and it is HD and looks good
@DickKnowsBest trust me they are not as fast as you think they are, and yes the people doing video editing would notice a diffrence, i do some editing with adobe and you will see a GIANT improvement with an i7
get a macbook pro instead of an imac, i bought the macbook pro in august and i was going for the imac, im so glad i didnt, its amazing, i can take it anywhere around the house and out if im studying or at a friends house. im saving up for an imac as my main desktop computer.
i was so confused at first to which one to get, the 27 or 21.5, im going to go for the 21.5 because i have a macbook pro hooked up to a 23" dell monitor, and i measured it and i think the 27" will be too big, its almost the size of my tv.
@Avataryoutuification it'll last 20 years, but as technology advances, the computers will too, and if Apple didnt update their lineup often, they would get behind and more people will complain
I'm sorry but by default Apple doesn't lead in any hardware department simply because their products aren't designed to be upgradable. None of their computers carry the i7 975 extreme CPU, none of them can run 4x crossfire SLI with the HD5870 GPU, etc. They don't "popularize" different ports, either. The only department they excel in is their mobile device area and in some regards, their OS.
The quad core iMac almost makes the quad core Mac Pro obsolete, why have a huge tower when you can have this, but until they release an 8 core iMac, everybody should own a Mac Pro ;)
@DickKnowsBest its not really biased, apple has screwed its customers horrible over the years, and the imac just cant preform up to par as a windows pc for the same price, they all have thier merits and if i was into video editing for a living id consider one, but most people dont need them
@MultiAppleUser You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. 1. It is called iPhone OS 4 - it's software not new iPhone 2. They stopped calling them iBooks 4 years ago. 3. Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple. 4. Wow, I didn't know that all an operating system present on 90 percent of computers could do was "change size and get virus's". I just used one to write this.
@DickKnowsBest no ive seen that with regular desktops as well, and yes i build my computers but as far as ALL IN ONES go yes imacs hold that, but most 1200 dell or hps have i7 in them, plus their are other manucatures other than hp or dell to choose from if you want a high performance pc, and theres many laptops from gateway dell and hp that would stomp the mac easily
I'm sorry, but if you think the PC is owned by Microsoft, well, you've got to read up. A personal computer can be any computer. It doesn't matter what operating system it's running be it Mac, Windows, or Linux. They are all PCs.
in 3,299 i get:intel core i7 960,8gb of ram DDR3 1800,AMD RADEON 6870,1 tb with 256 SSD,and your waste your money for your imac with 5750,imac is for edit only not for games but you can play games but not hardcore games
I just got the 27" iMac on the fourth of December. It is so amazing. Never had a problem and the display is amazing.
Mine can still play UA-cam videos in 1080p 60FPS FLAWLESSLY! Great daily web driver, and a great college computer! Even in 2020!
I have just bought one 27inch top of the rang ........ THIS THING IS AMAZZZZZZZINNG
@gytis156 full keyboard with numeric keys on the right (wired, not wireless) is a no cost option at purchase
agreed. I'm a pc owner looking to pick up a mac, and i mostly only drawn by the amazing screen and just how well the software works with the hardware. I probably won't convert for the very reason you just mentioned though, they always seem to be one step behind the times in terms of tech...

It's...GORGEOUS!
the keyboard size compared to the display is hilarious. It's huge!!
It defies reason that the USB ports & audio ports are on the back of the iMac. At least thats what I have read everywhere.
I have the core i7 version, 8GB of RAM, 2Tb Hard drive, ATI 4850 vram 512mb.
Its really nice :)
the 27 is huge it would be like sitting in front of you tv, the 21 will be great.
Honestly, If I were going to shell out $1600 for a luxury.. I would either:
#1: Get a RMZ250
#2: Custom build a Hackintosh that would make that 27in iMac look like bawls.

i;m getting the 27".... u shud too... it's my first mac i'm so excited

@egg357 the early 2009 models also have ISP.
@googoo120 I tried pricing up a tower system with the same hardware (or as close as possible considering they use some custom bits like the logicboard). It cost more than the iMac and that wasn't even including any of the software (ie no OS). So yep, you're right, these things are brilliant value for what they are.
@Gipuloe
allegedly there might be a iMac i7 i5 recall because of design flaws.. that includes scratching of dvd etcetera.

What ??? The specs are all in the monitor ??!! How does that not overheat ???
Damn that thing's a monster!
amazing but how much iMac 27-inch, 3.06GHz intel core 2 duo And ATI Radeon HD 4670 (Fall 2009)
@EniMiniMarsiMo The new gen is already out really all quad i5s and i7s. Wait til next year for an update
Yeah I know. It's a lovely thing. I'm getting the C2D variant basic as I feel that it will be FAR good enough for me. What are you gonna do to use up an i7?
OHH YEAH!! u the man!!!!
I have the 21.5 and I love it.
@DickKnowsBest yes and thats fine if you dont game or do anything graphic intensive, the 4850 isnt going to push it for gaming
Im still thinking to get macbook pro for imac, the fact that ill be restricted to my desk is putting me off
@iConstanta ....Yes and Bluetooth allows what?....wireless transmittion to give it wireless connectivity from the device to the iMac...durr
i just won one of these (but the core i7 model) cant wait to get it =]
The wireless features are really bad.
@m0nkeymafia1 its not supposed to be for the average person. Mostly graphic desgner and animators will use it.
now its quad core i7 with the 4850 ati radeon, so its going to kick ass
hey jmt don't forget that PCs can run Linux and Solaris, too. Windows isn't the only OS.
@iConstanta Yeah they are Bluetooth connections to the iMac but there technically wireless from there erm LACK OF WIRES
i think if they do it they wont sell HD movies in itunes, i wish they do it
I think you can buy an adapter or something like that..
the new imac look more vivid
@Calgary713 Not sure what you mean, The mac pro is slower than my pc and costs more....
@CodeRedCardinal2 you buy everything seperately
@chilled99 thank you...
and when did this gen (i5 and i7) came out ?
summer 10?
@using192 :P well my PC was crappy so I had the worst experience and I like Mac cuz u can hav normal day to day stuff and u can hav games, with PC its either gaming or day to day usage. And the style of the Mac looks nicer than most PC moniters

@platstationfaithful
It is a HD 4670 not a HD 4850.
@plokkkkkkk Maybe PC doesnt cost that alone but after all the damn repairs and new harddrives it cost a lot, and iMac had it all in one and it is HD and looks good
@DickKnowsBest trust me they are not as fast as you think they are, and yes the people doing video editing would notice a diffrence, i do some editing with adobe and you will see a GIANT improvement with an i7
In todays world I find it difficult to own a desktop but not own a laptop, you just have to get out of the house sometimes!!! So I have both :)
theres an adapter you need to connect it to the imac, im not sure which one it is though, sorry.
Did I hear right? This thing has 'better than HD' resolution but doesn't run a blueray ? WTF??
@Calgary713 by billion dollars you mean same amount of money as mac costs?
now thats what i call high definition!! ;D
Once you go Mac, you never go back.
@Fatal548 That sucks its a big jump for anyone using windows or PC
@HybrOMegA2 its budget components in a fancy package.
is there a huge difference in terms of gaming between the Radeon HD 4670 and the HD 4850?
does anyone know when theres going to be a new imac generation?
cause its already a year, since the last came out....
why they make so mini keyboard, if monitor is so big... numpad is useful on keyboard
'240p, must have just been uploaded'
*looks at upload date*
'well damn...'
get a macbook pro instead of an imac, i bought the macbook pro in august and i was going for the imac, im so glad i didnt, its amazing, i can take it anywhere around the house and out if im studying or at a friends house. im saving up for an imac as my main desktop computer.
i was so confused at first to which one to get, the 27 or 21.5, im going to go for the 21.5 because i have a macbook pro hooked up to a 23" dell monitor, and i measured it and i think the 27" will be too big, its almost the size of my tv.
Yeah but I don't think you can connect an hdmi cable on it. :/
Noob, bout to buy my first Mac question?
What sound card does the iMac 27 come with? does it come with decent one?
@Avataryoutuification it'll last 20 years, but as technology advances, the computers will too, and if Apple didnt update their lineup often, they would get behind and more people will complain
What's the price of it?
so the hardware is in that monitor?
Very gooooood 27"
People used to love the first imac.... 4gb hard drive! Haha, but you're right, everyone time the next one is released the old on looks like crap.
I'm sorry but by default Apple doesn't lead in any hardware department simply because their products aren't designed to be upgradable. @Calgary713 um my pc is 2 years old and has had no viruses or repairs so yeah... and it cost only 1650$
oh....that is like main IMAC love beeeeeeeeeeest
The quad core iMac almost makes the quad core Mac Pro obsolete, why have a huge tower when you can have this, but until they release an 8 core iMac, everybody should own a Mac Pro ;)
you have the 13 15 or 17 inch mbp?
@DickKnowsBest its not really biased, apple has screwed its customers horrible over the years, and the imac just cant preform up to par as a windows pc for the same price, they all have thier merits and if i was into video editing for a living id consider one, but most people dont need them
@using192 and how much is that additional to the price
i can just imagine steve jobs introducing the ibehemoth lol
@MultiAppleUser You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
1. It is called iPhone OS 4 - it's software not new iPhone
2. They stopped calling them iBooks 4 years ago.
3. Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple.

No bit to win one?
could someone please say what is the belkin product he mentions that turns it into a secondary display
I'm sorry, but if you think the PC is owned by Microsoft, well, you've got to read up. A personal computer can be any computer. It doesn't matter what operating system it's running be it Mac, Windows, or Linux. They are all PCs.
Damn thing is a mirror. Steve Jobs says you dont need matte screen. People say - ok we will change!
wow! the new model makes the 24" model look oLLLLd! like really! n they only did minor design changes to but still....
is their firewire ports?
Does it run 1080p videos on youtube? But like really fast?
@halfapotato am i gonna be able to play madden on it, with good graphics, and good game speed
@Calgary713 the only thing that makes this not true is that its your opinion and its all about what u like
in 3,299 i get:intel core i7 960,8gb of ram DDR3 1800,AMD RADEON 6870,1 tb with 256 SSD,and your waste your money for your imac with 5750,imac is for edit only not for games but you can play games but not hardcore games
@Calgary713 repairs and new harddrives? what the hell are you talking about
@plokkkkkkk My PC had atleast 5 repairs a year, and Mac doesn't get stupid viruses
imac 27 v. sony vaio L...thoughts?
Is this a good Computor for Gaming?
I have a 27", it hardens when iTouch it.
Can you wrest your palm on it still?
Unless you sit really far away from your computer, the 21.5 is perfect.
@TheTyParker how much?
Thinking about getting one of these could anyone tell me if they like it?
