What about uphill on a busy street, say from a stop sign, where going in a circle to start just doesn't work. Is it feasible to just power straight up?
There's going to be a learning curve if you live in congested urban area with steep hills, such as San Francisco. When stopped at an intersection, it's flat and you will can build momentum to get up the hill. However, you may want to avoid busy steep street where you might need to come to a complete stop. You may need to walk your bike to the next intersection. Also, ride defensively at intersections since you may want to keep your speed up.
Hi Rob and Team, Can't wait to get my Babymaker pro and really appreciate the video. I intend to use the bike on some fairly hilly terrain, but firmly believe that this is the future of sustainable local travel. I would like to see a vlog of a general ride over a hilly route and how the battery performs. I think Pete's journey proves the bike, but still nice to strip the performance down to the bare bones. Thanks.
OK, for a tall rider like me 6'8" 270lbs. Can this bike ride uphill like in La Jolla Nautilus st? around 15% incline for a 1-mile length? Is the Babymaker II able to handle that with ease or needs a strong pedal assist from the rider?
Hi! Rider height of 5'9" - 6'4" (Medium to Large Frame) the rated weight capacity of this bike is 275 lbs. To know more details about the Babymaker II, check this out: flx.bike/products/babymaker-2
Rob, is that walk assist still part of the program? Can't you turn that on? I remember it being quite a speed on flat ground so could you use that and push the bike then with a foot on the pedal swing into the saddle, get going and punch into pedal assist 5 asap and away you go va va voom!
@@superhumanbikes Sweet! Errrm I know you just made a hill start video but could you do it again with standing start ---> walk assist ---> PA lvl 5 please 🙏🙏🙏
I'm just wondering how practical both methods will be if you are actually moving off from a complete stop already on a hill, commencing your ride at from the bottom of a hill or on an area with traffic where you don't have the luxury of turning back and looping around. I'm no engineer but perhaps some kind of kickstart, throttle or semi-throttle feature could be beneficial in these circumstances. Otherwise it appears to be a very beautiful bike.
If it can get me half the distance of the Juiced Scrambler, which is about 30 miles with throttle only or 60 miles at their "Eco" pedal assist setting, including many huge uphill climbs, I'd be happy. The scrambler has bigger battery and more powerful motor but it also weighs about 40 pounds more. I'm confident the Babymaker will be able to replace it as my daily driver.
Just wondering, When the Babymaker is not being used, should it be stored with the battery plugged in? I'm enjoying all the instructional videos and live chats. Thanks.
Yes the battery is fully integrated so it will need to stay in the bike. If you are going to let it sit for a long period of time, charge it to 80% before storing it.
So...I just rode the Babymaker from the FLX office and went up the hills. Thanks again Collin! Please note...this is pedal assist. If you are not pedaling the bike does not propel you! I made the mistake of taking a break from pedaling and that hub was like a Prius in deceleration/recharge mode (although this hub does not charge the battery). Just be wise. I wish I had seen this because my hill climb was tough. I started with almost no momentum. All in all, stellar ride. Can’t wait to get mine!
Thanks again for coming in for the test ride Jeff 🙌 We are glad you enjoyed it, and we will keep making videos displaying useful tips and tricks for your Babymaker!
Hi Mo! We’re more able to assist via email - support@flx.bike! We’ll make sure that your questions are answered and you’re taken care of! Our mechanic will be able to help you with any issues. Thank you.
Looking forward to my wife’s Babymaker Pro! One Question, one suggestion for a new video: Will the alternative blue frame color seen in some of the videos be available soon? I did not find any information on the sound of the motor (is it audible at all, what it's like). Maybe some Mic closeup videos would be helpful at different loads.
We will post a video of the Blue Raspberry bike as soon as one is out of production. We could make a video on the belt drive but all you would hear is the wind noise because that thing is SILENT!
Loving the bike! Considering an AZ to SD round trip to see and maybe test ride a Baby Maker. What if you want the challenge of the hill? How is the ride with no assist?
If the hill gets even steeper you can go "S" mode. Making slolam- like S weaving reduces the incline. When I was a kid with a paper route on steep hills - I had to have lots of tricks to get that 60# of papers up those hills. SURE WISH THEY HAD EBIKES THEN. Steam power wasn't good enough -- LOL
I think you should have put a 5-10 speed derailleur (like the 1st roadster) but then the belt drive wouldn't work? Your engineers can come up with some "magic" and get it done!
Lots of older bikes have internally-geared hubs instead of derailleurs, and I'm pretty sure Sturmey-Archer still manufactures those. That could work with a belt drive system, but it means the motor would have to be mid-drive. It's a good idea, but it's a different bike.
When the bike ships to your country, it is configured to comply with your local laws and regulations. However, it can be reconfigured by you for track or closed-circuit use. Before your bike arrives, we'll be releasing the manual, along with several videos detailing how to use, the display functions and how to change settings to suit your riding.

This aint fixed wheel, its a single speed freewheel.
Glad it helped!

I realize I am kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
I really like these videos....but they just make me want my babymaker even more!
Thank you Alex!

Of course! Enjoy riding!🔥🔥
Great advice. Just got a single speed ebike. Will use this technique foresure. Cheers!

You did not say what the pedal assist was set at in the first part ?.
Also level 5!

Hi Stephen, will take note of that. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
Is the seat height adjustable?
Yes it is.
I wonder how many hills you can do like that before the battery is depleted?
With no battery the Babymaker is a standard bike so it's completely up to the rider.

My oh my! Good tips. I wonder how it will manage San Francisco hills
On max it will drain pretty quickly. One or two hills fine but on a single speed it’s not really designed for hill after hill.
It's not specifically designed for hills but it can get you up them 👍
Looking forward to receiving my flx bike! Pro and sterling silver! =)
Good choice!
I want the sterling, but don't want the tan accents and wheels. I think they'd sell so many more if it had black accents/wheels.
Absolutely love my eBike
Yeah! Have fun and enjoy the ride 😍
I ordered the bandit not a lot of videos out on that but super excited for it

Just got my FLX. I noticed when Im crusing & then I stop pedaling, the bike slows down like there's a built in coaster brake. Is this normal?

I’m so excited for ours to come. Both my husband and myself ordered the Baby Maker Pro. How fast will the bike go with minimal peddling?
On flat ground you can get to 20-25mph with an easy cadence. We cannot wait to get you riding!

Sure is man, you can ride it in the rain.

you say it's really easy to get up hills but it looks like you really broke a sweat getting up, how are we supposed to get up hills.
Pedal assist 5 and a little hard work can get your pretty much anywhere.

16-17mph
