great vids posted my mother (rip) was a very proud market woman from little may street wonderful to see the memories kept alive for the next generation to view.....keep up the good work.
Great photos of a great city.....i remember getting my fist dog from a pet shop in smithfield....looks like the one from this video........great memories...thanks for posting
Loved the video. Who cares if the pictures were in there twice. Would have watched it over again anyhow. Keep up the great work. Belfast lives on in the minds of those Born & raised there & left to live in other lands.
The Divis flats are a replica of the Crescents in Hulme Manchester!!!!! Same bastard architect I suspect!! He actually got awards for them! They lasted 24 years in Manchester and they stopped putting families in after 6 years and people would squat there and not even get asked for rent!! Morrrissey , Ian Brown and Steve Coogan are some famous squatters.. Cheers to my Irish cousins!!!!
Although born and bred around Belfast docks, my late dad used to sing this song all the time, specially when he'd downed a few brandy's and soda water...
Worked as an Apprentice in Dunbar Street, circa 1973 would go across to the Dockers Club in Corporation Street at Lunchtime great place and great people...
Mickey Marley and his roundabout I would have seen in the streets around where I lived some 60 years ago. I even plucked grass from the gardens to feed his horse.
It is good seeing the old photos, and stirring up the memory, but as has been said, it is a Derry song; and the lyrics put that beyond dispute...And it is only half the Song. Nice to watch despite all that, and no mistake...It is a pity that all the cities and towns look similar, and are losing their identity. Same shops, same chains of money spinners with the same sad look about them. It is like a disease spreading, and it is not just in Ireland.
Ah, those were the days. Apart from the Troubles that is! Reminds me of how much charm aul Belast used to have, even during the darkness. I'd forgotten about Micky Marley's Roundabout on High St. What a character he was! Now Belfast is just like any other town- bland, corporate and soulless. Damn shame.

@1.44 im so glad to see this photo,i can remember as young child 4 or 5 that there was always a motorbike shop next to montgomerys pet shop, this just transcends me,i think them steel beams that are being erected in the background are the start of castle court??
brooks4x...A lot of my photos on this slideshow. The wheels on the cart are Honda ones...I took it in a yard off the Ormeau Road in the early 90's. The bloke was a knife sharpener.
varaderowill the bloke with the horse and cart was not a knife sharpener.! He collected scrap metal.! One thing your right about is ,yes the photo was took on the ormeau road.!
This song is called 'The town I loved so well' and is about Londonderry, not Belfast ;) What a lovely song though, even though the band singing it are Republican leaning I still enjoy listening to it as a Unionist.
That was great. It's the first time I've actually seen the Park Picture House and Mooney's, places my father has told me about many times, and are the settings for many stories in his memoirs. (He was born in Belfast in 1935.) Do you happen to know if and where I can find photos of those places, and who I might contact for permission to reprint them? I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks again for this. I'll show it to my "da" and I'm sure he'll love it. :)
No matter where I've lived in this world I still call Belfast my home and always will.❤
BELFAST, no place like it in the world. I spent my first 16 years there. It will always be my home.
Very very beautiful.
1:58 Mickey Marlys roundabout! It used to come around our streets in Andersonstown in the sixties. Great wee memories there.

The city has undergone massive redevelopment over the past couple of decades! It is good that the gates around the city centre have now gone.
1:44 Andrews motorcycles, where I bought my new 250 Yamaha in the summer of 1973. Oh that those days could come back.
Belfast yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
