@@Godsslave777 Just to make clear: In case of D:Immortal, P2W stands for Pay2Whale, not Pay2Win. ..... cause even if you pay, you're still not winning. Only if you [massively] whale, you MIGHT win. ( e.g. => p2w2Mw :> )
I’m not gonna lie, seeing anybody in the Diablo community push this game gives me reason to stop supporting them as a content creator. Blizzard deserves all the backlash they are getting for this one. Llama had the right idea, play until it asks for money and bail. He was generous with a whole hour. Imagine releasing a game so bad that the people who have kept your company name afloat can’t even stand the thought of it.
I had higher expectations from blizzard, theyll surely fuck up diablo 4 as well. I hope another studio creates a similar game without the heavy pay2win. Loved d3, felt really smooth to play.
1st of all im a hardcore Player myself, was thinking about to outplay the "whales" by spending more time than these Gates but then i realized that this wont going to happen. So Raxx thanks for confirming that for me, now I can uninstall it with peace of mind.
Which would be almost as bad, as they say time is money. Content gating behind tons of time is not much better then content gating behind tons of money.
@@francoisturgeon1176 No but if you would have spent that time working at a part time job. You would probably make enough money to whale out, and then still have money left over.
I mean, I spent $115 MSRP on Diablo 3, counting all the expansions, and played it for 10 years. I get that those days are over, but the levels of toxic exploitation here are just beyond the pale.
Those days might be over for Blizzard but not all developers seek to rob their fans and create addictive gambling systems in their games. I'm going to support developers who don't do this scummy crap. POE has never ripped me off, same with Last Epoch which is looking to be a great game in active development.
@@Peanutfiendsblog You are absolutely right. You can play PoE 100% for free and all you are missing is some stash space. You can get all the stash space you might need for the 115$ Luke has spend and then some too, so it's not expensive either. That is how you do a F2P game with fair monetization and I am happy to spend my money there for cosmetics or private leagues supporting the developers. Spending money on crap like Diablo Immortal that is designed to give you a little boost of progress each time you spend 2$ is just dumb.
@@Peanutfiendsblog i actually got some mtx in poe, since i just liked the game and decided to support them. Voluntary spending is one thing, but locking you out of pvp and endgame pve is just greed. The more we allow it, the worse it will get.

@@bonevgm Totally Agree Ivo! You don't feel guilty buying some stash space or a skill effect in POE because the game is excellent, developed very rapidly and not at all necessary to "win". I actually like supporting the game. I think GGG enjoys playing POE just as much as their customers do. Imagine the devs of Diablo Immortal enjoying playing their own game knowing that the entire system is designed to rip the user off. I just can't see it at all. There's no passion for actual gaming left at Blizzard anymore.
Comparing D:I to gambling is offensive... to gambling. When you gamble, you spend your time and money for the excitement of having a small chance you'll leave with more money than you started. When you play D:I, you spend your time and money to avoid the frustration of spending even more time watching numbers go up on a screen. Kudos to Blizzard for creating a hobby more parasitic than gambling. No out-of-season April Fool's joke here.
For a better visual comparison (not just audio) for those that don't know, would have been cool to show a 3 rare crest chest opening compared to a 10 legendary crest chest. It's so over the top crazy! You go from getting tons of legendary gems vs not even getting one a lot of the time.
Hardly, the guy is playing the game regardless. Should fuckin blacklist / boycott. And his brother is playing it also. Point is, the guy is trying to make it seem like Blizzard are fucked, when both him and his brother are equally fucked for participating. Keep on riding the bandwagon of others thinking for you, mindless bliss.
As soon as I got through the intro and got to see for myself how bad the pay-to-win I stopped. I have played Diablo since the initial release of Diablo 1. I am still currently a top 500 leaderboard player in Diablo 3. Pay-to-win is worse than the bots and cheating in Diablo 3... I will not waste time on this game.
Did you boycott arcade machines too? P2W and gambling has been around and ingrained in everything for decades it’s not going anywhere. It’s just the landscape and medium have changed. Do you boycott TCGs? Just going to have to avoid buying and try to enjoy the game or play a different game. Heck, even happy meals are loot boxes with random toys for kids.
Thanks for this. I bought D3 and expansions three times for different systems and I don't regret any of it. I'm not even opposed to microtransactions, but that is just... greedy. I was wavering on if I was going to jump into Diablo Immortal, and after seeing your video, I know I'm not ever going to bother. It's not even worth trying to F2P when they're gatekeeping the high tier stuff at that level. I expect something like this from EA, but not Blizzard (well, at least not THAT bad).
After Blitzchung and the sexual harassment and discrimination allegations, you shouldn't expect anything from Blizzard. We also have: Warcraft III Reforged. In summary: fuck Activision Blizzard.
As you said yourself you used 40 bucks and your brothers char blasted past you with targeted money on crests. The empowered battle pass and Boon are mostly traps. The only "value" item in anything is the legendary crests as legendary gems are way more powerful than anything else in the game.
@@Simkets They make direct references to the battle pass for a source for more power inside the game. Same with the boon. And ofc not really saying fastest way of getting power are legendary crests, although it's going to cost you a house.
Blizzard: This game isnt pay to win as we do not sell "Items". So you dont gain any advantage whatsoever. Also Blizzard: So here are these OPTIONAL gems that you can enchant your items with, giving you a "minor" boost in your stats. Just like in Diablo 3. Dont worry this isnt P2W because they arent "items" they are just OPTIONAL additions that you can give to your items.
Can you blame them tho? Idiots in the gaming community justifying p2w games for years now labelling them as pay2convinience and other bs terms like that. enjoyed the game for the first couple days , bought the pass just for cosmetics and then I found cosmetics are not account wide and the more I level up the more I relaise this is just d3 but legendaries and sets are less impactful and the legendary gems which I can barely get my hands on a 1 or 2 star ,are the power house ,which means no ladder for me ,no big numbers no highest difficulty raids ,no pvp ranking ,it will be like playing d3 for free but you are only able to do nephlium rift and struggle while doing them like a noob did , even if I no life it it would still have no meaning cuz paragon levels are capped and eventually everyone will catch up with me with half the time spent ,and elder rifts has no meaning without legendary crests
Half the time? Oh no no. You mean whales will literally be (mathematically, mind you) 1000x stronger than you. Sure, it's not that apparent yet since it's just been a few days, but once the game matures, say a month or so, you'll feel just how far away the distance is.

I have played it since launch as completely free to play. I am LVL 60 paragon 12 right now. What is apparent is you cannot really jump in power without paying to get gems. I can't believe you got those, I've been playing since it came out, I've done the all crest rift a few times yet I've never even seen a three star gem in-game. Honestly, I think I'm about done with this game myself.
Thanks for the explanation. I've heard lots of people saying it's P2W but they weren't able to explain exactly why, they were just parroting the headlines. I'll continue to play as I do other mobile games; just as something to kill a few minutes in a waiting room or on the toilet, but it's clear this isn't the game to try and become super powerful in.
I understand wanting to play for the hell of it but this game needs to crash and burn. Like soon. The fact that you get like 3 free pulls and then have to either wait a month per pull or compete with people who will absolutely gobble up all the crests every server reset? Hooooooooooly shit that's terrible. Judging by how long it takes to get these pulls, it sounds like it would take years and years to get any sort of decent gems and gear. Now imagine that, but with the fact that this game will update multiple times xD It's going to add more gems and more difficult content! It's literally IMPOSSIBLE to catch up to even the basic requirements as an f2p judging by this xD.
Great video again Raxx, I just wanted to put in again, the Diablo part of this game is pretty good, but man this monetization and gatekeeping is so tragic. Guess I'll see you again in the next D3 season, instead of in Immortal. :P Keep up the great work!
Dude, the boss mechanics and such in immortal, just make me sad for d3, all of these cool fights, and class abilities could have been in D3, but it's like they kept it purposefully bland for this shit.
This is and Add. This is Outcome is insanely lucky. Drop chances for a Legendary gems when using a Legendary Crest: 1-Star (1/1 Star ) : 75.395% 2-Star (2/2 Star ) : 20.105% 5-Star (?/5 Star ) : 4.5% When a 5-Star Legendary Gem drops while using a Legendary Crest, further drop rates are: 5-Star (2/5 Stars ) :75% 5-Star (3/5 Stars ) :20% 5-Star (4/5 Stars ) :4% 5-Star (5/5 Stars ) :1% you can check these rates at the crest merchant by clicking the ( i ) in the top left corner
So basically his initial (?/5 Star) roll was pretty average at 6/100 but the fact that he got 2 of the (4/5 Stars) at a 4% chance when he only had 6 chances total is pretty insane luck.
Imagine giving the current Activision Blizzard any money, even for science. Data miners already found these abysmal rates and the true cost of maximizing a character.
they ruined a potentially great game. When i think of the raid system, it really makes me wanna keep playing, but the monetization just makes it unberarable. There's a great game under all the shit, and i hope some devs pay attention, extract the good shit, and make a great game like this one day.

Just to give you an idea of the RNG of the 5/5 gems in this game I'll give you an example using slot machines. A 96.5% slot with a 1 in 200 chance to hit the bonus can run 1000 spins without a bonus. It doesn't happen to often but 500 spins without a bonus does. As per RNG, you will average out over time, 1 in 200 spins. But that 1 in 200 is per spin. There is no entropy on that percentage of 0.5% per spin. 1 in 2000 means you could run 10,000 rifts or more without getting a 5/5 gem. Consider the cost of that. Then uninstall this trash and support real game developers.
To those who don't know about slot machines it is an extremely confusing example, whereas the actual probabilistic process at play with crests is pretty basic.
@@wiwhwiwh1241 that depends on the entropic nature of the RNG, which I believe does have a pity timer from what I've heard in other videos, so it's probably not as bad as slots. But even so, 1 in 2000 is a lot considering the time sink and the money sink on top.
250 bucks for 100 crests means ON AVERAGE you're paying $5000 for one 5star gem. But about 1/10 people will pay twice that much and still won't have a 5-star gem.
@@user-et3xn2jm1u Pretty sure you can use other 5 star gems to upgrade the 3 and 4 stars though...So you don't actually need to hit the crazy odds of a 5/5 star. People doing the calculations haven't taken all factors into account.
I'm having lots of fun with the game currently. I didn't understand where the p2w was though, so thanks a lot for the info. It's gonna be a grind, but I think I can make a great character after a year or two of saving Crest given over time. You don't need to save them. You would end up with the same leg gems doing 10 runs with 1 leg crest each time, or doing 1 run with 10 leg crests. Might as well spend em when you get them ans maybe get lucky early
@@medic0157 it's mostly just for getting legendary drops. I'd like to wait till max level before I use too many crest of any kind, but getting good gems early is also super dope. He and i were expecting to meet with devs but got confused when we met with three sales people. Not one question about gameplay or the game itself. They keep asking if the card system can be implemented like gatcha or how does micro transactions work in the game. At the end of it we couldn’t answer most questions. After that i just said to him “I think we just found out how mobile games are made now.” That was depressing because i hated micro transactions.
I think there would be an easy way to handle this a bit: Daily reward should be an legendary crest and not a rare crest. Even though it would not fix the whole problem but it would be at least something for f2p to have at least any option to be competitive on the long run. I really wonder how blizzard could destroy this game so hard with this stuff because it is basically really fun to play for a while till you want to start something to progress in the endgame. I played the story and enjoyed this part of the game. But i see no real reason to continue playing the game afterwards.
We can only fix something that is broken, this is clearly not broken it`s completely intentional by Blizzard, I went to 9 matches in Battlegrounds, and every match there`s at least 1 guy doing 17/0, 18/0, a staggering 22/1, like the guy literally punching through a whole team by himself, that`s the power of whaling in DI.
@@shippy1001 You are right - it is broken. But it is at least a bit they could do. I personally do not care about pvp, I do not care about ranking, I do not care about being max on day one. The game is just out a couple of days now. They should equalize PvP, but as far as I know there is also a cap for how jewels work in PvP (mentioned by some other content creators but I can not really find a source from blizzard). But like I said: Play the story, don't put money into the game and delete it if it keeps in this current state.
I don't think you get it. There is nothing to "fix." The game was designed this way from the ground up. They most likely have a whole thinktank with a psychologist advisor contriving the best way to induce people to spend money. Someone can spend $200 and immediately feel powerful against free-to-play players, giving them a rush of endorphins and accomplishment. It's not an accident, lol. It's not "broken," it's working as intended. Watch for a year or two later in this game's lifecycle when they announce that they've received the community feedback and will be scaling down monetization in the game, after they've already got the majority of the revenue from whales, of course.
They didn't destoryed it, their goal was to make a shit ton of money. Even if it just 100 whales it's probably worth more than 100k f2p players. They accomplished their goals

Oh, didn't you know that Diablo Immortal actually has a subscription option?! Yes, that's right, you can subscribe to the Boon of Plenty for $9.99 a month and be rewarded by Daily Login bonuses (that disappear if you don't claim them in time). Isn't that some fantastic value for money?

There’s a major difference between legendary crests (the few free to play ones) and ETERNAL legendary crests (those that you buy with actual money) and that difference is that you can’t sell the ftp legendary crests on the marketplace and they are bound to your character. This is done exactly so that you literally CANNOT do anything as ftp and to make you spend money for that battle pass even though it will be 100% USELESS. People, literally, didn't pay anything to download and enjoy Diablo Immortal, but you also want the company to lose the millions they spend making, promoting, and maintaining it, monthly, just because of broke people that are lazy and selfish? D3 and PoE are neither not as massively multiplayer/interactive as Immortal, nor are they as fun to me because--no matter what any game is-- it feels like a "dead" waste of time when I don't have other people running around. Blizzard makes multiple games. Yes, I hate p2w too, but people that download free mmorpg should know that they need to contribute monthly, at least. Maybe, like WoW subscription? The general chat trying to defend this game just kills me, some of the insane stuff they said made me laugh while I was crying listening to this video.
You forgot gem awakening at lvl 10 since it's easier to get fragments and rank up gems while whaling. Some of the awakening bonuses includes cooldown or reduction and skill boosts
This is why I can only smile when someone says they are having 'fun' right now by playing free, knowing what happens when they hit the loot and progression wall soon.
You know what will happen? They'll delete the game and play something else. Or they will re-roll with another character. I'm like 15-20h in and I'm having a blast. Once I hit the P2W wall I'll just create a new character and start fresh. I'll probably squeeze 100h+ with 6 characters for free and then move on with my life. If someone can't help themselves and starts spending thousands on this gambling machine, because their name won't be at the top of the leaderboards, then they need to seek help as it's not healthy.
I’ll take that RMAH enabled shitty legendary drop rate over whatever this impossible bullshit is any day lol - at least I was able to grind with friends to eventually beat post-nerf inferno act 4, as opposed to never having a chance against these whales.
@@TrampyPulsar I could be wrong, but I remember the drop odds bump coming quite a bit after RMAH removal. Either way, my point is a RMAH isn't a bad thing to me on its own, if Blizzard made the inferno scaling as fucked as they did to force AH that is just pathetic on their part. Maybe a compromise would be an AH which Blizz takes no money from...so there is no conflict of interest on their part with regard to game development issues.
a Reddit post did the math and suggested that if you want to max everything on ONE char. it will cost you between $100.000.00 - $250.000.00. in other words, you can choose between maxing everything out in a mobile game or even buying a house or a brand new car! or maybe both depending on what part of the world you live in!
I highly encourage f2p players to go into pvp and throw matches to decrease the incentive to engage in the gem system. Go in, bait your teammates into 2vx fights then run out, misposition on the map, take a pve skill set into pvp etc. Do things that make it hard for the DI systems to detect trolling but infuriate whales trying to climb pvp boards. Because the way pvp is set up, it’s very hard to solo carry matches.
I'm still playing it, currently level 47 I spent like 5 bucks , I try to not boggle my mind much and get Influenced by people but I think ill be up for a rude awakening once I hit level 60 and do end game stuff, but I'm assuming that's how most f2p people will be like, once they reach 60 and see the huge difference, they will all start quitting and Blizzard will start moving their snake tactics again to lure us back in
This monetization is pure evil. The stingiest gacha games give more free pulls than this terrible trash, and their content isn't necessarily built around NEEDING those 5 star characters xD. Imagine playing pvp and fighting a guy with some 5 star gems and just getting routinely blasted because you don't pay money. Idc how people justify it, that's awful, full stop xD.
all the hours of discussion about this issue and all someone really needs to do is watch that first elder rift to see exactly what's going on. The scary part is that you aren't even buying anything except a chance at the best gems until you hit the pity quota. This plus purchasing bonuses that you lose unless you log in every single day is just predatory as hell.
This is why I will NEVER do PvP in Immortal again. In my first (and only) PvP match the instant a player from the other team entered my screen I was dead. It was infuriating. I can’t understand how this is even fun for the whales, unless you just love bullying people, cause it ain’t for the competition, that’s for sure.

People in the comments, it's confusing why you're blaming blizzard for making a mobile game which aligns with mobile gaming's current pricing trends. If you wanna blame anyone, blame the companies that made games like summoner's war, star wars galaxy of heroes, or marvel strike force. Gacha games have been requiring people to spend tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars to be competitive for almost a decade. You can really tell who has and hasn't played mobile games before immortal by how much/little they care about this game having whales in it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting these trends in any way, I'm simply acknowledging their existence. And that it's kind of shocking to see this level of outrage, given that none of this is surprising to see in a mobile game in any way whatsoever
Diablo is an established AAA franchise and Blizzard are AAA publishers. The expectations aren't the same as any other mobile game and this game is also on PC DAY ONE. How is that a mobile game again? Add in the fact that this is basically Diablo 3 down to the engine so once again, how is this a mobile game? they got a predatory version of d3 to work on a phone and I'm supposed to obfuscate reality and pretend it's just a mobile game and nothing else and then excuse absolute garbage? nah, that doesn't sit right at all.

Drop chances for a Legendary gems when using a Legendary Crest:
1-Star (1/1 Star ) : 75.395%
2-Star (2/2 Star ) : 20.105%
5-Star (?/5 Star ) : 4.5%
When a 5-Star Legendary Gem drops while using a Legendary Crest, further drop rates are:
5-Star (2/5 Stars ) :75%
5-Star (3/5 Stars ) :20%
5-Star (4/5 Stars ) :4%
5-Star (5/5 Stars ) :1%
you can check these rates at the crest merchant by clicking the ( i ) in the top left corner
So basically his initial (?/5 Star) roll was pretty average at 6/100 but the fact that he got 2 of the (4/5 Stars) at a 4% chance when he only had 6 chances total is pretty insane luck.

Everyone should have the ability to get the best gear in the game. It really ruins things when you just have zero chance to ever get it. Make f2p people work harder for it, but they should have the ability to get it. It's just screwed up. Sad thing is this is a fun and well done game. I play it for a bit every night and am enjoying it. Wish it just sucked so it wouldn't annoy me so much.
Right
This post right here. Itd be a lot better if People can pay to skip not pay to forever be a lord amongst f2p. F2ps get the real experience and actual good loot propping out after u beat mobs which is the core of diabolo.if f2ps can't feel that why make the game free at all
This sums it up pretty well, I saw this when I was paying the beta. They would trickle feed you currency every day and it was the only way to get the legendary gems.
3:40 This is basically "do 10 pulls" but you actually have to run a dungeon to open them.....that's evil and so well hidden behind gameplay.
Yeah but in gacha games you get pulls fairly regularly xD like I play genshin and I don't have to worry about only getting some weird subpar wishes daily, you get a currency and buy the sort of wish you want (And they don't cost a different amount). I'm not about to defend gacha games in general but the value that Diablo immortal gives you as an f2p is... It's just abysmal. It's beyond reprehensible, it's just evil.

A couple years ago i met a college kid with an incredible little game he is making. Kinda like fire emblem with ninjas.
So i knew a dev and publisher of mobile games so i set up a meeting.
He and i were expecting to meet with devs but got confused when we met with three sales people.
Not one question about gameplay or the game itself.
They keep asking if the card system can be implemented like gatcha or how does micro transactions work in the game.
At the end of it we couldn’t answer most questions.
After that i just said to him “I think we just found out how mobile games are made now.”
That was depressing because i hated micro transactions.
@@shippy1001 monk whales are insane unlimited dmg and stuns lmao

Very intelligently explained, great job mate, now I know exactly why whales pwn me with a pinky flick.
Just imagine with me what fun these mobile MMOs would actually be if it was just subscription based play rather than all this P2W. This is just the launch of the game as well the P2W usually gets much worse as these games progress. Lineage 2 was so fun at launch for me and the community that we built was awesome in the server I played on but week after week just bigger and bigger packs of materials kept showing up in the shop, then 1 day a big update dropped and even bigger packs dropped and the end was nowhere is sight...they just dont know how to stop themselves for the betterment of the game.

Play Path of Exile and stop touching this garbage.
I never touched it, I hade done some math and after this I came to conclusion fuck this shit, I play PoE, Dia3 or other games I own, no need for P2W bullshit game.
We can talk about better ways to monetize, but would you listen to the guy that thinks you should give your RAV4 to him free, or the one that will overpay you two million dollars for it?
@@devastorm356 How about instead of making it a P2W game, why not make really cool looking skins to buy, great looking armor pieces, changing how a skill looks like by making it more badass. I wont pay to make myself stronger, ill pay to make myself LOOK stronger.

@@devastorm356 don’t even try to reach into the “companies shouldn’t just give you stuff for free” strawman, because 1) that’s not what everybody is asking and complaining about, and 2) there’s a HUGE difference between asking people to pay a fair price for a decent product and the utter greedy garbage that these POS are doing to us all, you included.
This is about Blizzard going the extra mile and employing the most predatory, scummy, absolutely manipulative, dirty psychological and monetary tactics to make the biggest profits imaginable in the most dishonest possible way, for what is beyond any doubt an *inferior product* for which they didn’t invest (nor will they ever invest) even the tiniest fractional spec of the resources that could justify your “but it cannot be free” reasoning.
There are methods and there are limits to everything, and this time Blizzard really went over any possible limit.
It doesn’t matter if you’re so used to this kind of mediocrity that you would ignore everything done to lower the quality of games, raise their prices, and push predatory practices that would be illegal even in actual gambling establishments.
I won’t even go in detail to discuss the legendary crest/eternal legendary crest bullshit (which makes the definitely NOT FREE Battle Passes *useless*), the dozens of scummy in-game currencies, the predatory tactics done to skirt around pro-consumer regulation so that they don’t have to tell you their loot boxes odds and can give you completely pitiful loot chances even when you spend 25 dollars for a single rift run (you can’t justify the fact that there are people who spent 10K of actual money in rifts and didn’t even get ONE single 5 star legendary gem, those odds are just wrong), and all the other completely dishonest, greedy mechanics that this game has, and if Blizzard has just done a better game where they YES make you pay but are not so blatantly predatory, nobody would have a single word to say against it!
I personally don’t care if you’re so used to mediocrity that you would rather prostrate and genuflect to the altar of that mediocrity instead of asking to huge companies to make your experience better by giving a decent, fair balance of cost and price to their product.
In other words, it's a well balanced game for free to play people and for those with unlimited bank balance accounts. Good to hear 👍👍

This is why I can only smile when someone says they are having 'fun' right now by playing free, knowing what happens when they hit the loot and progression wall soon.
You know what will happen? They'll delete the game and play something else. Or they will re-roll with another character. I'm like 15-20h in and I'm having a blast. all the hours of discussion about this issue and all someone really needs to do is watch that first elder rift to see exactly what's going on.
