There are only a few times when you find exactly what you're looking for and this is one of them! Absolutely needed this video for our 2013 ls and this guy had it all covered in the video. Thanks a lot for this! You can't imagine how happy I am of finding this🙂.
Thanks for posting this! The Malibu 2.5L 4 cyl you're working on is the same engine that's in the 2015-2022 Colorado/Canyon truck twins and uses many of the same gaskets (except the actual camshaft cover gasket can vary by vehicle model) and vacuum pump. Videos like this on the Malibu help truck owners see the rear of our longitudinal mounted engines when transverse mounted in FWD GM cars & SUVs (Acadia & Blazer). Appreciate you taking the time to make this video so other 2.5L owners have a good visual reference for this repair.
Thanks for this video. The vacuum pump on my 2015 Malibu decided to detonate so now I have to take the "valve cover" off to clean up the parts that got into that area. This is pretty much the only video I've seen for this specific year and engine model combo. Much appreciated!
Artistry photography I have the 2015 Malibu w/241K miles same engine displacement as this one on the video. The dealership replaced the cover because they said something had broken inside causing the cover to break from the inside thus needing replacement. Along with that repair they also change the intake solenoid and rocker arm solenoid (which are the ones you called actuators) and lastly the oil control valve (which is the last convection you disconnected before removing the cover) It alleviated some of the vibration that the car was experiencing when I was at a stop light at idle, however, shortly after those repairs a check engine light with code P0506 came on. So before changing anything I decided to clean the throttle body and the code never came back. The only thing now is that I suspect the timing of my car might be off. Lastly, does the vacuum pump (that’s the part on the side of the cover with a green connection holder) When in operation is it supposed to make a clinking noise? Thank you for the video very few videos on the Malibu simply because it is a new model and not so many ppl are able to work on the vehicle due to lack of knowledge or reading material about the engine. If you come across another Malibu of this model highly suggest to make a video on how to do the timing chain job.
@@crazysexycool180 since then I had the vacuum pump replaced and soon after I also replaced the fuel injectors as they were causing my vehicle to stall …after all that the car continues to work as if nothing has happened. I definitely feel like Ive got my money’s worth for this car as I have done most of the maintenance myself and had very small mechanical issues to address.
Great video varry detailed thank you. I have a question, I have a 2014 chevy malibu 2.5 litter ecotec. I'm change my spark plugs Whats the gap I need for them?
I looked up the part number for the The cam shaft actuator seal and it says uts fir a vacuum pump but looks the same as yours and has the same part number. I ordered it and im assuming it’ll be fine and fit ?
I see this has been awhile. I do have a light oil leak on my spark plug threads. Left to right it’s #2. Is there a seal at the base that can be removed that is around the spark plug? Or could it be the PCV valve that you could’ve seen? Like I said I know it’s been awhile. But I hope you do recall based on the video. Thank you in advance.
if they are not leaking then reuse them, please like, share, and subscribe, also please check out my other channel Salem Taxi, on UA-cam for more material on a different level.
Going to be doing a headgasket replacement was the chain on the cams under tension and how much more work has to be done any tips or tricks, the cams all have to come out so my machinist can resurface the cylinder head
Very good video and easy to follow. Good explanations. Would you please tell the torque value for each bolt you have to remove? Or at least a link to those values. Thanks again for this good made video.
Good video, I have the the same engin on my 2014 buick regal. Got all the bolts off but my cam tower cover is stuck on their. Any advice to prying it off without harming it?

Hey man, you rock. How hard is it to fix the timing chain? Is there much more work than that I mean? Because for you it's a cake walk. Thanks for the video. Awsome.
Excellent video ...may you can do a video how to check voltage/ohms on all 8 wires connector mass air flow sensor 2014 Chevy Malibu 2.2 and 2015 Chevy sonic 1.8 and disconnect a good the sensor with the car running
Where the oil cap is what is that called.. when i open mine and look inside it looks like a broke gasket is pinched.. but when you flipped the valve cover over i couldnt see anything?
I need some help. At 11:00 minutes into the video, you remove a piece from the right side of the assembly. What is the name of that part? The inside of mine broke and it caused the cover plate to bend and leak out a massive amount of oil.
what is the name of the "piece" you keep referring to on the opposite side of the camshaft actuator. The shape of a circle and it goes inside of the engine?

This is the worst engine design!! The whole car sucks, try changing a head light. Gm you should be ashamed of these Malibu and buy them all back or repair with out charge.
Hey so that part number for the Vacuum Pump Seal - GM (12668429) Doesn't come back that it fits the 2015 chevy 2.5L Malibu?? This was info from the dealer

Does it have any antifreeze running through the valve cover?

yes clean before installing the cover

Got an oil change and the guy told me he saw oil on the pan. Could that be the cause? It’s the same car. What other things could it be?
What's the torque specs for the cover bolts? Btw, got a new subscriber in me

It’s called a vacuum pump.

This is the worst engine design!! The whole car sucks, try changing a head light. Gm you should be ashamed of these Malibu and buy them all back or repair with out charge.
The headlight on this gen 8 he is working on the headlight isn't as bad. No bumper removal needed. But yes, the motor sucks.
Took me 5 mins to change the headlight. Spin the cap off and unclip the old light, plug the new one in and screw the new cap on
There is a difference in changing out a headlight (assembly) and a headlight bulb and I don't know which he is referring to.
Worst video ever. At least you could tell us what the parts are called.
