- Watch these eggs wonderously hatch into fluffy chicks!
The first minute is shown in real time - just to show you how slow and exhausting the process is for these little chicks. Click 1:36 to jump to time lapse. It can take 14 hours - so we used some time lapse video to speed things up.
Please ask questions in comments below and I will reply as soon as I can.
After hatching, these chicks lived happy lives and were loved and looked after on a family property. They were a delight to 3 young kids.
Notice how the chicks go through cycles of movement and rest. Poor little fellows - they get so exhausted.
At the start, "Eggs! Ohhh" was an audio of my 2 year old son watching the eggs at the time as they cracked open.

(This was footage captured in 2010 with a Canon EOS 500D. We went through a few memory cards and took ~ 8 hours to film it all. Recently we made a few tweaks and added the soundtrack by the JarrahCelts.)
i love how they all collectively tweak together before collapsing every few seconds

I always get nervous when the first chick that comes out starts playing soccer with the other eggs.

I real wish the amount of time that is passing would be down in the corner it would make explaining that it has been speed up a lot easier.... yep there they are hatching but forget the fact that it has been 24 hours from start to finish....
That’s what I was looking for maybe start time, from first pip to zipping then finally break out a Timelapse doesn’t really help.
Even when you slow it down the shaking of the first is brutal

It was a long time ago ... I think maybe 4hrs for most of the action? When one egg starts, the others slowly kick off.
Ah so they can be hatched without the Hen sitting above it? As long as it is fertilized.

This is great. Does it bother them to be born on metal mesh? I wonder if they would have an easier time on some softer substrate
It’s usually plastic mesh in the incubater and no it does not bother them been done like this for 100s of years
I don't think so.... I'd say its negligible compared to the stress of hatching. They aren't in there long - after they hatch they get put into a nice warm sawdust basket with a heating lamp, water trough and feed (last bit of the video shows that).

I have a silkie chick that started pipping about 9 or 10 hours ago. It's poking it's beak through and chirping, but it's the first I've seen from the beginning. It's got maybe 1/2 or 3/4 inch chipped open. Silkies are smaller so idk if that's helpful but the wait is killing me. I'm not opening the incubator and its definitely alive in there. Is it always this slow? The internet can be confusing. Soooo im asking a chicken person on the internet. Sorry if this is annoying. Im old.

I can't remember the day (it was a long time ago when I filmed this)... but they hatched a few days after Judy dropped them off. They didn't all hatch... you'll see one egg didn't :(

Will it be okay if we try to crack the egg a little bit just so the chicks could come out easy
It's probably not a good idea because bacteria can get inside if the chick isn't ready. The hard shell could also shatter and kill the chick inside. It's best to let them pip on their own.
@@tundrafang7484 thank you for informing but I didn't know that when the egg was hatching my brother cracked open the egg the let the chick come out because it was hard for the chick crack the hard itself the egg was so hard for its small beak and after we broke the egg the chick was alive for 1 week and then it suddenly died with no reason
