I’m also thinking that during the Covid lockdown, our town helped keep Seniors safe. (My husband and I are now Seniors). Volunteers shopped for those of us who called the town. We were allowed 15 items per week. After about 2 months, our town bought staples in bulk ~ a temporary food pantry. We were allowed to choose 8 items at $2 each. Of course, we paid for the cost of the items, and we were encouraged to donate to the local food pantry to say thank you. There were a lot of snow storms that winter. “Snow Buddies” ~ student volunteers from the HS helped keep our car accessible. So, we donated to the Food Bank again. Thank you to the volunteers who helped us!❤ It was wonderful to feel that our town wanted us to survive the pandemic, which my husband and I fortunately, did.

@@Deadstep7 You're naive if you think that. The novel and film, On The Beach, is about the last survivors of a nuclear holocaust who are marooned in Melbourne. They're stuck there waiting for fallout/ radiation to reach them. They are the last people on the planet with no place else to go.

I've spent extensive time in China. There are blast doors on anything that could be used as a shelter. Underground parking lots and malls, etc. There are miles of subways and traffic tunnels everywhere. Traffic tunnels are so extensive they have labeled off ramps and go in and out of mountains with distances far enough to have different weather from one end to another. They certainly have military plans for it all. It is interesting to see old fallout shelter signs in some of the older underground structures. That is to protect them from us, just as we had them for their threat. It all makes one a little frustrated that diplomacy gets relegated to such a symbolic status when using threat as the main obstruction to all out war.
I remember my Mom and Dad showing my sisters and me a storage area in our basement that was where we needed to go in case of an emergency. They had the only window replace with glass blocks. Fortunately we never needed to use this area for an emergency, only to store canned vegetables. The room was a great playroom for plastic Brio-like track and train for my sisters and me. How scary the time must have been for my parents. They passed away much too young so I never had the chance to ask. For folks who were parents in the 60’s, how was the time for you?
Even these “nicer” shelters look dismal. Imagine living like this for weeks or months, only to be rewarded for surviving by now living in a ruined world.

I find it interesting that most if not all of the worlds interest / need for fallout shelters arise from a singular country having a vast nuclear arsenal....
They are scared of some thing that never happened and never will. People running from their own shadow. It reminds me of a 3rd grade school play Henny Penny. THE SKY IS FALLING LOL. I played Foxy Loxy in the 3rd grade play lol. But it is people running from their own shadow.
I don’t know about those that want to die straight away but I’m going to spend my last breath trying to get more breath. Even in a fallout world it will eventually clear but cancer rates will be high for a while. I want to see what the worlds like after.
I never felt more unsafe as I did under the leadership of Donald Trump. And I was a teenager in the 1980s. When Ronald Reagan antagonized the Soviets, and they seemed bent on wiping up from the planet. Remember when Sting had a hit song called “Russians”?

The 80s film Threads is the most harrowing nuclear war/blast film I have ever seen. It shows how surviving isn't what most would want to do

I have no desire to live in a post apocalyptic world. Give me ground zero.
Why? In NZ it might be still good. Even most local civilization will stand.

They won’t.
Get as close to ground zero as possible.
I have looked at their bunker models, they are explosive, dangerous, and straight up not well designed.

Saw that Colin Furze clip at the 2:00 mark. Check out his UA-cam channel for a bunk build that is definitely less doomsday prep and very much mancave!
