I agree. I used to watch this as a child. Years later I became a veggie and watched this again. I had forgotten he was a vegetarian and I'd forgotten this song. I was so happy and touched to rediscover this all! Who knows if on a subconcious level this film helped me on my path to going veg.....
I love this movie. The "remake" isn't even recognizable as the same movie, and doesn't inspire any compassion. In fact, the remake is simply obnoxious. But this 1967 movie is lovely, and this song is touching and inspiring. It is how more highly evolved people view their fellow animals.
Does anyone notice on the cover of the DVD of DR DOOLITTLE that the rat is sitting on the letter D and is therefore situated above all the other animals?🥰
Just think. If animals could actually communicate with us, we would feel waaay more guilty about how we treat them. With how livestock and some pets are treated, if they could actually talk, we would never be able to live out our daily lives with their screams and pleas on our conscience. That's an especially sad thought though, especially sense we don't even listen to them when they cry out with the voices they already have.
Yeah This whole song is TRUE! Love it! Soo True. At least there people out there that actually Love animals and respect them. I do not understand how the human race is sooo cruel. Women see a baby goat skin or a lambskin or a stoat skin and to them its just a COAT SKIN ITS TERRIBLY SAD! When you dress is suede or leather or some fancy fur or feather do u stop and wonder weather for a fact you that ur actually wearing someone's brother or perhaps its someone's MOTHER! ANIMAL RIGHTS FOREVER! Peace
This song sounds at times suspiciously like several songs from Rex Harrison’s better known musical performance in My Fair Lady. Marching tune where a guy who struggles to relate to people uses a good vocabulary to denounce them. Henry Higgins has THREE songs like that!
As a theater lover and expert all my life, I can tell you that Rex Harrison wasn't a singer so he acted and "spoke" all of his musical numbers in that style; that's who he was! Lerner & Lowe were the musical team who did the songs in "My Fair Lady" while the team of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse did the songs in "Dr. Doolilttle."
One reviewer said that this movie flopped because the score was too sophisticated for the child audience. With songs like this and "The Vegetarian", I can see what they meant. I like the lyrics here, especially the ones against wearing fur- I have always felt this is wrong.
I dunno - I watched it when I was ten and I loved the heck out of the whole movie, and this song in particular. Maybe the score was too sophisticated for the adults ;)
More like animal cruelty anthem. If you hurt or neglect animals for your own pleasure or enjoyment, then you are no better than the low standard you impose on them. in short, acting like animals.
Love the song and animals too, but I'm not about to give up eating them, I agree they should be treated better than they are now, "you are what you eat" to me that means that since food is essential to life we should treat our food with respect, treat them like shit and that's how it'll taste and that's what you'll be.
You don't need to eat animals to survive. The vegan diet is healthier. Animals want to live just like you. There is nothing that makes them morally interior to humans. Think of their suffering and how you would feel enslaved separated from your family, and killed when you didn't even need to be killed. Have some mercy for the poor innocent beings
I am an animal and not the first animal that eats both plant and other animals to survive, you choose your diet for moral/ethical reasons and that's fine, I'm not trying to change that nor would I try to, but for me I have no problem eating other animals, but I do have a problem with the process and their treatment, I don't believe in hunting for sport, letting the animal go to waste, or treating it so cruel before it's death. I have teeth made for ripping flesh and a desire to eat that flesh no different than other animals how eat meat.
Yes, you are an animal, but your teeth, your intestin and your DNA is more similar to herbivore' and frugivore animals'! In fact, show me your strength, your agility, your night vision and your sense of smell, like REAL carnivores and omnivores have... You can't, because you don't have them! You are so ridiculous as an omnivore/carnivore that you need tools to kill, skin and cook animals, because you are not able to eat the raw flesh, bones and guts like real carnivores do! You also need a fork and knives to cut your "meat" in pieces, otherwise with your ridiculous canine teeth and your intestin (long, like herbivores have) you would not even able to chew and digest them! So, stop kidding yourself and realize that you do not need to eat animals, you CHOOSE to kill and to eat them! Cats, wolves are carnivores, you are not! Dogs, foxes, bears, birds are omnivores, you are not! So, if you say that you "love animals" you are a hypocrite, because you don't need to eat them to survive (vegans are the healthiest people on the Planet, you know?), you CHOOSE to kill them for your habits and your greed!
And feel as hypocritical as Doolittle did when the animals swiped his dinner... and how he felt on going back on his vegetarianism and eat the culprits...
"Why do we eat pussy like puppy?, Like a snake is not entirely bad. Ho's and Bitches try to feed us And it's not because they heed us 'Cause they really want a fetus From a big old spunk dad!
When I try to explain my animal rights activism, I just quote this song.
aaah me too!! lol
DITTO!!!!! One of my favorite movies, anyway, because of the love of animals so perfectly expressed.
This song was way ahead of its time
I agree.

Brilliant song. “Pretty as a pig! That’ll be the big day, won’t it!” Yes, it most certainly will.
This song makes a very good point
Amazing that a statement this subversive made it into a major motion picture.
Subversive? Don't melt.
a lot can be learned from this one scene
"We create their wretched status/Then we use it to malign them." That's...intense.
I think that's the best line. Because I think that of many types of people (especially poor & incarcerated).
@@goldilox369 So true. It can reference so many types of marginalized people.
@@kennethwayne6857 I've thought of it the past few weeks with the Palestinian situation. 😢
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! i have always felt the exact same way as the doc, thats why i love this movie so much (hate the remake though)
Thanks for that Like Animals "fix"!
The greatest “spoken" song ever! This track is No. 1 in my book!
Lyrically...Sondheim Worthy

Agreed. I had all of Hugh Lofting's books. Rex Harrison's version was great
I agree! The newer Dolittle movie wasn’t very good!
Does anyone notice on the cover of the DVD of DR DOOLITTLE that the rat is sitting on the letter D and is therefore situated above all the other animals?🥰
We honestly don't deserve animals
Doctor Dolittle sounds like he's a Lawyer with Zoology experience as he's a animal Doctor.

hey! good for you, fellow veggie! thats what i love about this film, it really speaks for you and me, especially this song
best movie ever
Actually I am with Dr Dolittle on this, I do understand the human race either. There are people who are cruel to animals.

Humans are animals too, that is right.
i see, how exciting! its the new year over here in the UK though (has been for an hour and 10 minutes) but yeah, looking forward to it!
This has made me feel really guilty about owning a leather coat :(

Original vegan song...haha! I love it!
Snakes are not slimy, so Dr. Dolittle is right
I was very disappointed with the remake, when I found out it was nothing like the original.
Why can't they remake this movie? It wasn't successful when it came out, but hipsters would be all over this.
Do the verse about a rhinoceros and the ☝️ about a hippopotamus remind anyone else of the song If I Were King of the Forest?
❤️

I love this song and movie as well. Would it be too much trouble to send me a link as well? Thanks!
I love that you're uploading the soundtrack, but how much longer must I wait for my absolute favorite song, "I've Never Seen Anything Like it"?
Lol.
Lyrics?
@Olivia2Oscar
so hows that project of yours coming along olivia?
Vegan anthem.
But he clearly indicates cows and chickens work to feed us. Dr. Dolittle was a vegetarian not a vegan

The peta theme song
PETA's latest statement be like
no PETAs mean, they mistreat women. people need to treat animals and women well. not just one or the other.
@@lemurlover7975 we need to treat everybody (people and animals) in the right way.
