Welcome to the millennium and it’s millennials. Be thankful we grew up in a time when we loved and enjoyed the essence of life because we can always remember it as we live in a time that is not a change but a continuation of a dystopian life that started in the late 60s with their young generation
Some lyrics you never forget, " I can walk with the animals. Talk with animals. Grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals!" oh now I remember seeing for this movie for the first time as a class trip.
For animal lovers.......this is the most truth.....take care of your furry freinds.....love them....cheerish them......talk too them......they will understand......believe me......i know.......living proof.......old man rick.....love you all...xxxxx
Rex Harrison was a very poor singer by many standards. His style was always more talking on the note than trying to hold a note. Many of his better performances were set up by song writers who knew of his style and would write the songs to fit the fact that he was not going to hold notes well. Listen to the singing in My Fair Lady and you'll notice the same pattern in all of Rex's singing.
One of my favorite films of my childhood. My parents bought a VHS of this & many other great movies for my sister & I to grow up with. We also had such classics as The Wizard of Oz & Willy Wonka (1971).
Oh my god!!! i've had this song stuck in my head for weeks now! i tried looking for it but i only found the eddie murphey version. i was starting to get depressed. my friends havent seen this version, im gonna make them watch it. :) 500x better than the new ones. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING!!!
When I was a small child my father would sing this to my sister and me while playing a music box which played the tune. He also read us Doctor Dolittle before bed each night.
Song brings tears, for me! Honest to God, I wish someone could as it sure would make their life a litter easier. I'm not talking just animals, bugs too. They are so overlooked. The best way I can describe creatures .... they just want to eat.
I first heard this song on a Fisher-price Little People Musical Zoo Train from 2002, back when I was in preschool. I found that exact same train a few weeks ago, and just recorded it and put it on my channel.
I have a cassette tape where The Chipmunks sing songs from movies, and they change that to "Well I can". Honestly, I think the original line works better.
If we could talk to the animals, just imagine it Chatting with a chimp in Chimpanzee Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting with a cheetah What a neat achievement it would be If we could talk to the animals, learn their languages Maybe take an animal degree We'd study Elephant and Eagle, Buffalo and Beagle Alligator, Guinea Pig and Flea We could converse in Polar Bear and Python And we could curse in fluent Kangaroo If people ask us, “Can you speak Rhinoceros?” We'd say, "Of courserous, can't you?" Gradually, we'd drop it with no fuss If we could walk with the animals, talk with the animals Grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals And they could squeak and squawk and speak and talk to us
I think in the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film one of the characters should introduce this song to Newt Scamander, I think he'd love it! Also I wish they did a wizarding world version of this song!
The books don't stress this point very much, but animagi apparently CAN talk to the animals while transformed (Sirius with Cookshranks, Peter with rats etc.). It's a shame the movies don't explore it more. Newt Scamander would go crazy for this!
Thank you so, so much! I've longed to hear this ever since that wretched Dr. Dolittle with Eddie Murphey came out... This is such a treat, makes me completely remember my childhood~
In my opinion the original film, is and will remain the best. The Murphy's refried versions are crap. Rex Harrison will forever be the true and only Doctor Dolittle.
Important: I'M NOT RACIST, I want to clarify this point to avoid the misunderstandings which arise and lead to comments that can attack them to me for something I'm not. I'm just a man who prefers the original versions, both in music and movies.
its pathetic that we cant dislike anything a black person is involved with without announcing a disclaimer that we arent racist. You can be black and suck at something without being a victim.
This movie is on AMC right now! I should take a shower and go to bed but its NEVER on so I'm just going to stay up and watch it since I haven't seen it since I was a child! Lol. The main reason it's so obscure these days is it was a total failure when released in 1967. It cost like 17 million dollars(in 1967!) and altogether only grossed like 9 million. It almost bankrupted 20th century fox. The soundtrack did better but a million copies were released worldwide and were in "cut out" bins for YRS
After being in this show, I definitely prefer Rex's vocals over the person who was playing Dolittle in our show, who had trouble remembering his songs even on the last day of the show!
I put this song on my list of songs that could fit in with a Darren Shan story because Darren and Evanna could talk to animals also. Darren mainly talked to spiders and dragons, as he had the power to control them, thanks to being related to Desmond Tiny, Hibernius, Evanna, and Steve. Larten Crepsley could also talk to animals including his pet spider Madam Octa which he controlled using a flute. When Darren stole her, he learned how to do that, too.
Best version thus far.why? Because he actually loved an cared for the animals so passionately to learn it. Eddie's version was only because he was born that way an didn't like animals very much at all.
I pray in YAHUSHUA name that one day I can talk to the animals walk with the animals grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals what a marvelous beautiful happy serene world that would be !☺😊
Well, I like this version best! However, many think they are humans. They aren’t. However, as steward of this earth, it’s certainly our responsibility not to keep doing the terrible things, we have. I’m not into PETA. I’m my own advocate as how animals in the wild or domesticated should be treated.
It's a shame that this good movie is fairly obscure today and it is rediculously hard to find. :( I think someone would post this movie, if only they could find it. I know I would.
And RDJ can in fact _sing_ rather than the talk-singing of Harrison. However I just saw the new movie and - nope - one of the few times in my life I wished a movie was a musical. It may have helped give the movie some of that old movie charm it seems so difficult to replicate today.
well i wouldnt say that, its a pretty close call in my books, in fact id probably only vote for this one because i love animals so much, the bare necesseties is more up-beat, lol

I loved this movie when I was a kid. Even now sometimes this song gets stuck in my head when I wish I could talk to the animals!
This movie was so good. These songs are fabulous. Rex was excellent.
All those kids
Some lyrics you never forget, " I can walk with the animals. Talk with animals. Grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals!" oh now I remember seeing for this movie for the first time as a class trip.
Imagine that a Rex Harrison song won the Oscar for Best Original Song. The Beatles never won one.
Oscar for Best Song 1968.
I like this song- fun lyrics and well delivered by Rex Harrison. I personally think it deserved the Oscar.
RIP Leslie Bricusse lyricist. 90 years. Terrific stuff.

Loved this film as a kid...great to hear Rex sing after all these years later!!!
He's rapping before rapping was a thing. He's the OG!

The lyrics are intelligent and very witty; and Mr Harrison's delivery complements them. Thanks!
Amazing how for most of the song, Harrison just TALKS rather than singing, and he still makes it seem musical!

Yes. Unfortunately in real life and behind the scenes, Rex Harrison was a racist b@stard.
