Would love to see a BigBoy instead. It might be a little heavy on the track however. I didn't think the Americans made such 'small' locos as this. It's just a yard shunter by their standards!
Trains ran through my back yard in Boston, Massachusetts back in the 50’s. I’d stand on the fence and could just about touch them. I waved instead. When I moved to Florida, the back yard of my rental in Safety Harbor had trains running through it. No fence, though. Right now I’m about a mile from tracks and hear trains at night.
Yankee Doodle plays in the background
Fun fact: the S160 was built in the Lima locomotive works with the 2-8-4 Berkshire and GS-4 Daylight
Seeing locos such as this reminds me of just how good our engineers were, having the ability to fit excellent engineering into such handsome bodies.
Imagine if they looked at it and thought all American engines looked like this. "Huh...not as different as I expected."

They are restoring a wartime USRA S-160 up here in Alaska

but, but... theres no cowcatcher X 3 , im assuming thats cause of regulations...
Great video Mike, should be a great asset to the railway I should think this steam loco could battle the Washford bank without and effort at all.
Really cool to see a train like that in the UK
Beautiful
Yes we were there 3 years ago saw that.
Good footage of 5197 and 6046....The sooner 6046 is here the better !!

She was due to attend the Mid-Norfolk Railway Gala earlier in the summer, Mike, but pulled-out at the last minute.
Still wish it was on the railway as part of the home Fleet
Nice videos, although they were two different locomotives there. I see the Dartmouth Railway will also have a S160 next year so two at work in the SW.
Are there ever ant train whistle competitions for loudest or most melodious? It’s done with old paddle wheeler whistles. One carried 10 miles
I love to listen to them breathe
