Between this, The Starwars Holiday Special and the Krofft shows, my generation has certainly seen more than our share of insanity. Funny thing though? I wouldnt trade the experience for anything. It made my childhood memorable. Im glad they post these things as they are hard as hell to explain :)
The funny thing is that the witch is supposed to be yellow, at least according to the books, so they actually got something right. Not that I justify this show's existence or anything.
I thought it was the WINKIES that were supposed to be yellow in the book......but either way my theory is the reason they didn't choose yellow for the movie is it might have looked like jaundice!
@@CoopyKat You're right, it was the Winkies. If you're talking about the MGM movie, they changed the Munchkin Country from having the favorite color blue into a place with every color in-- or indeed over-- the rainbow. As much as many of you may laugh at the Brady Bunch Variety Hour, how bad could it have been if the Simpsons did a parody of it.Robert Reed(R.I.P.)actually felt much more at home on here than the original series because he could sing and dance, much like he used to on Broadway prior to the Brady Bunch's debut in 1969.He was formally trained, after all.

Why did they have Rip Taylor instead of Bobby as the Cowardly Lion? And my favorite part is that Alice's crystal ball is really an umbrella--couldn't they at least spring for a really crystal ball?!
Mike Lookingland (and Susan Olsen) was still young enough to be subject to the child labor laws, so he was limited on how much time he could work per day. His time limit was probably all used up rehearsing the group songs.
Another reason on why I was a Partridge family fan growing up..I must have had my licence then and out having fun. I never ever saw this and glad I didn't..lol
I remember this when it was first telecast....never thought I would see it again. Definitely bizarre, the closest thing that compares today is "Family Guy...Surfin' Bird"
This is like an acid trip Brady Bunch does Wizzard of Oz in a disco car wash Those dancers dressed as car wash sponges. The crystal ball is an umbrella. Who the hell made the set and costumes LOL
Soooooo.......a mash up of The Wizard of Oz and the Careash movie? Produced by the guys who brought you H.R. Pufnstuf?? Yep, those guys were puffin’ some wild ass stuff
I remember as a kid watching this. To this day it haunts me. I can STILL hear them sing "Car Wash" in my head! I just turned up the audio for a few seconds and then started screaming. HORRIFYING!!!
I was trying to figure out who the lion was. It’s definitely not Bobby or Mike or Sam. I was guessing it might have been one of them since Greg is the scarecrow and Peter is the tin man, but he doesn’t look or sound like any of them.
@@homespunhomefragrance5659 Allan Melvin who played Sam was not in this show. Rip Taylor played the Brady's landlord and Alice's love interest. However, their personalities clashed, and they would not speak to each other off of the set.
I remember seeing one episode of it and turning it off after 10 minutes. I can't imagine how anyone but the most diehard of Brady fans would have tuned in for it.
@Wild1995 What's wrong with the costumes? Or do you mean the backup dancers' costumes? The Oz gear is spot on. It may have been designed by Bob Mackie; at least the Lion suit looks like the one Mackie put Paul Williams in when he played the Lion in Donny & Marie's "Oz" takeoff. As for the brolly, it is canonical; the Wicked Witch of the West did carry an umbrella. Okay, it wasn't clear plastic and she didn't use it for scrying, but she did have one.

When the heck was this variety hour on? What years and what station? This must have been on the early cable television channels back in the day when not too many people had cable yet because I don't recall it ever being mentioned. The sad truth is, I probably would have liked it back then.
The odd thing is that you'd think neither the Scarecrow nor the Tin Woodman would be too comfortable in a car wash.
And don’t cats hate water?
It simply doesn't get any worse.
Unfortunately it does. Pink Lady and Jeff, anyone?
It was like 1975..cmon now.. now, they're all just happy meal toys😅
I never would have believed this existed unless I saw it. I may not still believe it.
This is the suburban version of "The Wiz".
These are the things nightmares are made of.
Only road Maureen was on at that stage was the white line freeway .. sniiiiiiifff😂
This is funny . I love how Alice the witch was sing ' they are going to a " a moment of pause " to a car wash " I love that line
LOL tell me about it! I lose it everytime.

Even weirder: Rolling Stone magazine's 10th anniversary special from 1977.
It's simple: people in the 1970's knew how to have FUN! It's a lost art now, it seems.
@@MaskedMan66 Yeah I miss the days when people had a sense of humor. Movies like Blazing Saddles couldn't be made now.

I've never seen this skit before...and sadly now I will never be the same again.
I think the snow is awesome
The first time I ever heard the song, "Car Wash", I immediatly thought it would be so much better if Rip Taylor covered it.
When I see Rip Taylor, two things come to mind - I'm about to see something very corny, and there's bound to be a whole lot of confetti!
The funny thing is that the witch is supposed to be yellow, at least according to the books, so they actually got something right. Not that I justify this show's existence or anything.

The WWW isn't described as being yellow. And shows like this are for fun, and therefore need no justification.

This "show" came about after the Brady Bunch kids made an appearance on Donny & Marie and it "went well." And then..........THIS happened. : O
so if you ever wanted a reason to hate Donny & Marie just show them this.
Geeez that car wash segment was excruciatingly long
Rest in Peace, Ann B. Davis.
How can she after this?
@@LanceABoyle ?
This is amazing! The Brady Bunch doing the Wizard of Oz & disco ??!! I love it!
Maureen McCormick(SP?) playing Marcia is one of the most beautiful women in the world!!!
She was an underrated hottie of the 1970's. I guess because people remembered her as a child in the early years of The Brady Bunch.
I just finished watching this, and I...don't feel well
Take 2 Quaaludes and wash it down with a bottle of Vodka. That's how they got through it in the 70's.
Thank you for posting these!!!
Wow....I actually heard my brain cells screaming in pain at this.
It was so bizarre. But Ann B. Davis always came off the best.
Yes, Bobby and the other girls wisely chose to sit this one out!

I think that this skit was very entertaining. The Brady Bunch Variety Hour was pretty cool. Long live the 70's!!!!!!!!
This show was cheesy but it's not like today's music or pop culture is that great.
They gave Alice a new costume instead of having her wear the maid outfit.
The older I get, the younger Alice looks.
I'll have what she's having!
I actually like this one
I can die now. Ive seen everything.
Oh, never say you've seen everything! You'll be wrong every time.
This is like the exact opposite of The Wiz!
Did this disappear and surface 40 years after the Star Wars Holiday Special?
Whoever came up with the Witch design was on acid...
It was designed by 3 time Emmy winner Pete Menefee, that man is brilliant. To come up with stuff this insane he has to know what he's doing.
Fabulous camp! Only the Wicked Witch couldn't love it!
Warning: Do NOT watch this on Klonopin!
Some of the show's dancers were stacked. I bet Mr. Brady hit on them.
Oh, wait......
That's where Rip Taylor came in
Sid and Marty Krofft designed it! (No, seriously they were head of design and producers on the show LOL)
Did Rip Taylor live on the set of this show?
