I have something in common with Maureen McCormick. For one thing, we're both named Maureen. 2. I actually broke my nose. It was very painful, especially if I sneezed. Doug Simpson, broke our date as well.....LOL
I had soooo much FUN watching this video!!! I watched reruns of the Brady Bunch TV show as a kid and still do as an adult, but I never saw an episode of the variety show. I am so happy to see this and I swear- I was dancing right along with them! Oh my gosh, did you notice how amazing Carol dances?!!!
Honestly, the workmanship that went into creating the sets and costumes cannot be underestimated, but the sincerity of the performances make the entire thing seem like a grand parody
Thank you for sharing. I don't feel so alone. I appreciate the variety genre, light-hearted entertainment, and I enjoy revisiting this Variety Hour (on UA-cam) maybe more now than when it first aired. One reason is I now know Bob Reed was largely unhappy filming The Brady Bunch, but grateful for this creative opportunity and challenge. I like the fact the cast made the effort, took a risk. The musical numbers resonated with me. It takes courage, guts to perform for others - on any stage. There are a lot of critics, some within the ranks, that seem to hold their nose viewing, reflecting upon episodes of this series. I'm not swayed. Many critics are paid to be critical. I applaud anyone making the effort versus those who don't even try. There are so many attributes to dancing. I am much more bothered by "entertainment" the likes of Nicholson's Cinderella Man when up for an Academy Award, the clip selected to air at the ceremony only a few selected words (verbs?) were audible, the censor bleeping out the rest. Now that's embarrassing.
So many put this show down; because of disco. My opinion is similar to it’s upbeat and positive. I definitely enjoy it. I was lucky to see Florence in person. She was amazing! I’ve also become FB friends with Geri Reichel. She’s a lovely woman, with a lot of talent. I’ve saved some of these for when I feel down. I also miss the other Variety shows, like Andy Williams and Perry Como. They were fun! Lets Do the Hustle!
I thought this was corny back in the day but I find it wistfully endearing now. I enjoy visiting all of yesteryear's family friendly nostalgia along with many other light hearted fare from far in the past.. Throw in some Soul Train, American Bandstand, Carol Burnett , Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie and Midnight Special and mix thoroughly. Add a whole lot of Ed Sullivan, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell and Andy Williams. Helps to remember how sunny and silly and cheesy and upbeat we were once upon a time. Especially today in these dark and dire and distressing days.Saccharin sweet marshmallow? Better than bittersweet harsh mallow.
Oh...gods...I am torn between parsing the song and costume choices, the relative abilities of the cast at singing and dancing, the choreography, the 1970's disco Era arrangements...and crying "make it stop!" Yes, kudos to the cast for going all in and all out in this extravaganza. Now that I have seen it, I am inspired to go all out at doing what I want to do with my life and not watch this again unless I need to be reignited.
Being a "Brady Bunch" fan...growing up, in the day where the show was Prime-Time on Friday nights - I kind of, sort of remember this show. I'm reading the book "Love to Love You Bradys: The Bizarre Story of the Brady Bunch Variety Hour" & it's very entertaining. Especially the photo of Susan Olsen, 'flipping the bird (that was shown on T.V., because of the poor & rushed editing job).
Funny I read that barry Williams was doing this to try and show that he could dance and sing with a lil funkiness for a little move that was just starting to be talked about. This movie was solely to be built around a guy that danced at disco ,um don't know if anyone remembers it was called Saturday night fever.barry's people thought it was great to show how versatile he was ... How he was a natural great dancer..this should have showed the powers that be that rightfully so....he was stiff, and had no rhythm and could not dance groove form. John travolta was the right pick for that move. Barry needs to go and sit down .shamefull , all people have rhythm some whites and some black people have great rhythm ,as some black people and white have no rhythm what so ever and dispell the myth that with blacks -that they all have rhythm,as the myth that white people have no rhythm ..ha ha barry falls into the no rhythm ...this is sad, none of those kids can dance you would think someone could dance in groove with the musi
I'm mindblown... I've been in a deep obsession with Mamas and Papas lately, and now I randomly decide to look up Brady Bunch videos... almost clicked away after a few minutes until I saw a comment mentioning Marcia and California Dreamin... so of course I had to find that LOL what a coincidence
Several thoughts occur to me while watching this. Did these actors ever get tired of being paired with their same age TV sibling in every song and dance number? If I hadn't know it was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, I should have guessed from the crazy costumes and colors, especially those poor background dancers. "Fake Jan", aka Geri Reishl, has a good voice. Kudos to them for learning all this choreography and singing while doing it. Just because a song is popular doesn't mean it should be sung on a variety show by a group of singers. Thank God the 70s and their fashions and color combinations are over! I'm kinda glad I didn't see it when I came out, though my younger self may have been more forgiving. Now I'll have to watch an episode to see the storylines. Thanks for this compilation.
I'm old enough to have actually seen these shows when they aired back in the day. So as cheesy, cringey, corny & showy as this show was in all of it's shameless, shiney, glittery tin-foil glory, I still get nostalgic when I watch it.
When Germans say, "We have ways of making you talk.", showing episodes of this is one of the ways, and if you do not cooperate, "We will show you video of Robert Reed singing and dancing again." is certain to be one of the threats they will make.
Huge fan of The Brady Bunch when I was growing up, but, sadly, Sid & Marty Krofft was always a recipe for disastrous outcomes. And the addition of Rip Taylor? It was like saying, "We've thrown every bad idea into this possible -- why not?"
They all could carry a tune except Peter, but I don't think any of them were destined for the Grammys by any means. I always enjoyed Mike Lookinland though, I thought he was a born entertainer. I think he could have been a Donny Osmond if his career had taken him down that path.
Greg could've been a teen heartthrob, but he was so goofy, most importantly he thought he was it. He should've humbled himself. Even older movies where he comes out as an adult he thinks he's super 🔥>🤔🤨
So Jan was always the one with all the middle child problems. She had low self-esteem, yet they go and get this new Jan who sings better than all of them which really throws the whole thing out of proportion because she doesn't belong there to begin with and yet they give her all the big singing parts. It just doesn't make sense, just never really realize that back then because quite frankly, even back then it was really goofy to watch all this musical craziness from BB.
So, wait, Robert Reed refused to be in the LAST episode of The Brady Bunch b/c it was too ridiculous...but this? THIS he had NO problem with!? C'mon....
the lip-syncing, canned applause, and the sheer cringe of it all brings me back to my teen years. Not as bad as the Lawrence Welk show of the same era, but damn close.
Variety shows seemed typical of this B list of usual people They were around for years back then. There was five channels back then. PG and rated R didn’t exist back then. So many forms of variety shows. Hollywood Palace Sonny and Cher show Carol Burnett show Ed Sullivan All have that formula I couldn’t stand these shows as a teen.
It seemed like it started with good ratings, mainly because The Brady Bunch found its audience in reruns as a kids’ after school show, but quickly cratered. I think ABC and the Krofts didn’t realize that Donny & Marie did well because Donny was super popular, not because their show was good. This is practically a copy of the D&M show, but without D&M.
This show always puts a smile on my face.
I need to smile now.
Geri is a Lovely Lady. I count her a friend.
If I didn't like this show, I would change the channel; and I wouldn't be a fan for So Long.
I have something in common with Maureen McCormick. For one thing, we're both named Maureen. 2. I actually broke my nose. It was very painful, especially if I sneezed. Doug Simpson, broke our date as well.....LOL
Maureen was actually on Happy Days.

The music was just so good back then. Such a talented group.
Such a good vibe, Happiness, cheerfulness, comradery...

You have to give them credit for their effort and showmanship.
They did it because they got good momey
I saw Florence Henderson in person. She was wonderful!
This show is best appreciated stoned and with the sound off!
14:30 Mr. Brady said the heck with it.
Hahaha
"Turn the Beat Around" -- Wow! Fake Jan has a tremendous voice!

Florence was just amazing! Absolutely Beautiful!

Super fun to watch these guys! That Choreography. Hahahah.
Love The Brady Bunch, Great song,s.
I will always love The Brady Bunch ❤

I saw her in person. She was incredible!
I actually like Marcia's cover of California dreaming
"Best" is really a relative term...but I couldn't stop watching!😂😂 (I love the Brady's original songs...for real.)
Barry Williams was a confidant singer. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I really enjoyed this segment.
Watching the Brady bunch sing and dance actually made me smile. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Geri can really sing!

Maureen McCormick had performed in Grease on Broadway as Rizzo. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Great show!!!!!
I Loved the dancing in the 70s.
I Loved The Hustle.....we did it as a couple.
Not sure where you found this, but so bad it almost made me LOL.
Regarding the "Hooray for Hollywood" number, looks like someone invaded Captain Kangaroo's wardrobe
How well do you sing and dance?
Searching their pockets for carrots.
This is right up Robert Reeds alley.
I like the yellow nut huggers!
Never thought I would EVER hear a disco version of Live and Let Die 😳😳🤣😂🤣😂🤣
They are great
What I find interesting is that Ann B. Davis was a good dancer! She seemed to have the knack… 🤔
Kinda unexpected.
The rest of them are stiff as boards. She seems relaxed and having a good time.
She did a little Charleston step there.
Today is the first day of Spring! Good bye Winter!
Was Barry trying to imitate Elvis in the opening number?
Barry Williams was hoping to be the next David Cassidy.
Sweet God, those edibles are kicking in, wicked..
Amazin'!
Bobby was a born entertainer. It's too bad he didn't have more success than he did. The kid was charisma personified.
If by Bobby, you mean Fake Jan, then yes.

Robert Reed had a problem with the Brady bunch but not this?
Huge fan of The Brady Bunch when I was growing up, but, sadly, Sid & Marty Krofft was always a recipe for disastrous outcomes. And the addition of Rip Taylor? It was like saying, "We've thrown every bad idea into this possible -- why not?"
Who stole Jan? Is she hiding in Barry Williams’ bells?
It's sad that not one of them could sing especially Barry! Lol it's no wonder this show didn't last long! 😆
Florence had a great voice. Barry wasn't bad. Faux Jan was a good singer.

Johnny Bravo.

I understand Barry wanted to make it into the music industry. Never happened.
Barry Williams had appeared in a couple of Broadway musicals. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

Fake Jan seems to be the best all-around talent in the group aside from Florence Henderson. We won't mention Robert Reed.
Greg could've been a teen heartthrob, but he was so goofy, most importantly he thought he was it. He should've humbled himself.
Even older movies where he comes out as an adult he thinks he's super 🔥>🤔🤨
Barry admits he was arrogant then. Like when someone wanted him to audition he would say turn on the TV and watch me there.
I agree. It's quite amusing to see just how hot stuff he thought he was when he really wasn't all that great.
