Wonderful & brings back memories! We are Dutch and drove this route Oct 2016. Had some fresh snow on the higher points of the route. Did have lunch in Silverton and a stops in Ouray + Durango also. Our finish was in Montrose.

Whether it's swimming in the Ouracy hot springs, hiking trails, learning about the Ute Indians and mining history, shopping on our unique Main Street or seeing wildlife, wildflowers and waterfalls.I have visited Silvestron many times, it is a place you will enjoy again and again.Silvestron is a National Historic Ladmark , part of the San Juan Skway ( with the Millian Dollar Highway connecting Silvestron with Ouraya. In the nearby Weminuche Wilderness, Silvestron is a haven for hikers. We rode this 550 route passing Ironton, Red Mountain No.3 , Anwil Mountain, a route with minimal hills , calm with lots of beautiful views.Greetings from Chicago, Illinois.

I've never seen the river the color of the Uncompahgre-truly amazing: It could be named Gold River, for sure. And thanks for driving through Silverton and Durango. Ya; you don't want to BLINK, let alone be distracted by a bee, cell-phone, or some sudden weather event, et c. With no railing, warning strips, and an unforgiving drop off, I'd say you're spot on, and there IS somethng to worry about. there are roads like this in Utah and Oregon, as well. Million dollar, as in "cheap."
I can relate, as I watched this after I got plastered from half a bottle of vodka... Woowweee!! I was hallucinating like crazy! It was like a rollercoaster!! 🎢 whhheeeee 🎡 I really should cut back a bit but damn, that was fun!!

It's been over 40 years since I rode through here as a passenger, parts of it day after day. But that tight hairpin at Lime Creek at about 1:06:00 is still as vivid in my mind's eye as if I was just there today. Well, after watching this, I guess I practically was!
OMG! I'm still having a panic attack reliving this epic drive. When we drove it years ago, there were NO GUARDRAILS on the Million Dollar Highway! Brings back memories of several fantastic vacations in SW Colorado. Driving 550 was a blast. Just watch the road (and other, inattentive drivers) , not the scenery, while driving.
I think a great video would be a trip through the entire Route 66. I have a lot of driving vids from other channels but this video would be unique. I know that part of the Route 66 is not in a good condition but some parts are very well. you are one of the greatest channel with best quality. I follow you since the beginning.
Of the Hwy content I've seen on UA-cam, yours is the best yet. Stabilization and audio level are spot on. Are you using a helmet mounted system? At times the video is 90° to almost 180° from direction of travel. How are you pulling that off without wrecking? Passenger shooting? Sounds like a motorcycle, no pillars or bugs on windscreen. Great production! I watched your RMNP first and then 550 was in feed next.
Drive this from Durango to Glenwood Springs in early April. Snow on the ground but not on the roads, and clouds swirling all around me. I've driven CA1, Blue RIdge, Natchez: this is the most spectacular drive in the USA.
The mountains views are forever, one thing I noticed is there are no railings. 😮. At least the drives around the curves are 25. My sister would have a cow if I took her on this trip. But sure would be worth the drive. 😊 Thank you!

It's definitely quite a ways from the interstates, but definitely worth a visit if you've got the time. The drive from Montrose, Colorado down the San Juan Skyway and Million Dollar Highway is tremendous, one of the best we've ever seen.
Back in June 2019, And traveling from Silverton to Ouray, and when we reached 0:15 road, I said WOW look at these roads with no guardrails, and driving a class C rv, I told my wife , on the way back the drop is on your side, and she tells me you're going to have to find another road, I was so scared that I was driving 20 mph , at the RV Park I asked an rv'er How was your drive from Silverton to Ouray, He said I Took a different route. 😂
Hopefully, but it does close at times due to winter weather issues. Definitely want to check online before heading to the area specifically for this drive in case it’s closed. Hope it’s open for you when you come to visit!

For example, the one of you doing the 120 to Yosemite, the Priest's Grades between Moccasin and Big Oak Flat. Compared to this stretch and the other side of the Pass between Ellery Lake and Lee Vining Meadows, the 120's elevational changes are actually rather subtle. I've traveled this stretch and more, in person, many times. Priest can and will trigger a whole lotta carsickness in fragile people.
