For me personally, this is COFs best song ever. There isn’t another one that makes me feel the way this one does.
How does it make you feel?
Top 10 to drum for fun too...wheeeoooob!!!!! !!
It's the crescendo. Unparalleled in its blend of british goth rock n roll and bloody faerytale storytelling. A true classic
It's that ending lead guitar. Just very powerful.
I downloaded this song by accident off of limewire back in like 2005 and it completely changed my life. I had only listened to rap before then. Shit was like the red pill for me
That whole part starting at 05:00 has always been my highlight of the album
mine too!!
For me it starts at 4:11 onwards
@@klausherbert3040 yes 100%
Still ends way to soon. Wished they played on for like two more minutes or so.
Same. Best part of the album
One word for this album..... Poetry
yes son so lovely
I bought the original CD when it came out in the late 90, and this song has been giving me spinal chills ever since
Chicken shit
@@brookewildthomasbill762 No, just someone who deeply enjoys good music. But thank you for your input all the same ma'm.
Same.
It's a perfect album, and that's hard to find. Beginning to end - perfect.
I bought it when I was in 6th grade I believe lol staple of my childhood 🖤
I stole it. It's the song that made me be a degenerate 37 year old. I blame Dani Filth
Metal masterpiece, even music in general.
The end of this song is beyond this World.
Even the drums are emotional.
What a great band it was.
You said it all!!! Btw,that's why i always loved Nicholas on drums in Cradle! He always knew what to do,his drumming always fit the songs so perfectly. In fact, tbh,it was so important as the guitars/bass,voice,keys,to the feeling of their music, imo. From "The principle..." to "Cruelty and...",they were amaizing!!!
It still is...
I grew up on hip hop and it was hip hop that made me appreciate different forms of music. But it was a disciple of black metal that put me on. And it was this album that made me love it. The world is too big for one genre. And this song is fucking beast. This album is a sonic masterpiece. Long live.
@@pharaohbronze
No offense, quite the opposite, but I don't believe that hip hop helped you appreciate other music, I believe that was just something within you all along - to be able to hear the majestic qualities in many sounds.
Still is
When the production value of a Black metal track exponentially exceeds that of anything being released in this decade.
Everything from 3:56 is pure gold.
True
yessssss
Nah... the entire song is gold. After the intro and the next 2 minutes is incredible
This new mix reveals a lot of different keyboard sounds that were not that present in the original release... cool
and drums are more clean.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall
Shouldst not grave pleasures be my all?
For if I shall see thy Will be done
Grant Me the Witchcraft of thy tongue"
Three moondials froze in the shadow of six
As another soul passed to the grasping Styx
Clutching their trinket crucifix
Bats blew from caves in a dissonant surge
Omens of corruption from within the church
A fetid, dank oasis still clung to fool rebirth
Alone as a stone cold altar
The castle and its keep
Like faerytale dominion rose
A widow to the snow peaks
Wherein reclined the Countess
Limbs purring from the kill
Bathed in virgin white and like the night
Alive and young and unfulfilled
Was it the cry of a wolf
That broke the silver thread of enchanted thoughts?
Of Her life as a mere reflection
(As the moon's in narrow windows caught)
That opened like dark eyelids on
The sigh of the woods that the wind fell upon
Like a Siren weaving song
From the lilt of choirs choking
Where the vengeful dead
Belong...
To the Sorceress and Her charnel arts
She swept from ebon towers at the hour of Mars
'Neath a star-inwoven sky latticed by scars
To unbind knotted reins that kept in canter, despair
Shod on melancholy, fleet to sanctuary there,
In netherglades tethered where onyx idols stared
Was it the Kiss of the mist
That peopled the air with the prowess of absinthe?
Lost souls begging resurrection
From Gods upon their forest plinths
Whose epitaphs read of re-ascending to win
Remission from despair through a holocaust of sin
In a tongue hilted in invective rectums
Over signs and seals the sorceress prayed
To Death, to rend the slender veil
That Ancient Ones might rise again
As shadows swelled
The Countess fell
To masturbating with Her dagger
As the Witch gabbled spells
Cumming heavy roses all the way to Hell
As sudden thunder's grue harangue
Announced two pincered worlds
Exuding bane, something came
With the stench of necrophiled graves
To these clandestines
Who shrank from glimpsing horror
That the growls of mating houls inclined...
Resplendent
In pendants
(Natal trophies torn from bellies of desanctified nuns)
A demons, bewinged, bedight
In scum, prowled their circle seeking entry to run
An arctic tongue upon Her vulva
Where rubies smeared to alabaster thighs
Glittered like a contract in the purse of a whore
Receiving sole communion from the body of christ
"If blood is what thou carves, foul fiend
I will yield this witch to thee
If thou wouldst draw a veil for Me
O'er lengthening scars of age and grief"
As the Demon slavered foetid vows
And bore His prey away
In talons itching to perpetrate
The nausea of eternal rape
The Sorceress screaming in His grasp
Spat a final curse to stain
The Countess with the promise
That Her lord at war would be cruelly slain
And She would rot.
Alone
Insane.
On the twisted nails of faith.
"what thou craves" dummy
@@8523wsxc That's because they've most likely pasted & copied the lyrics from the "official source". Which ironically is incorrect. I've listened to & typed out the lyrics myself atop the comments. (I've accounted for most if not all discrepancies if you feel inclined to read them in tandem with this masterpiece?)
@@blackerscreenproductions1368 yoo no wath??? It really is thee Masterpiss!!! Beyond many Shakespeares and other bool that hardly reaches 1/4 of this atmosphere.
Just Bravo CoF
@@TK-fd3qtthe most intricate and tough English since medieval poetry. Almost unreadable to modern day people.
This album brought me to the world of black metal. This album is a work of art.
Ya same dude. I didn't know metal could be so beautiful until this.
Ah, the COF days with Nick Barker on drums and Robin Graves on bass. They'll always be my favorite COF members.
They both combined were about as in-sync of a rhythm section you can get. One of the hardest sections to make a perfect match. Rhythm section gets the blame when timing goes off. More like the rest of the band does, drums and bass guitar try to reconnect the timing change. I've played both instruments in a band before. This album was perfect in my opinion in timing.
@@phillipcarpenterjr1576 agreed my friend!
What about Stuart? He did the amazing guitar work?
@@lukeskywalkerjediknight2.013 yes very true. I miss the line up they had from back in the day.
@@lukeskywalkerjediknight2.013 stuart is my ultimate favorite member. 2and was Barker. LOVED their work
You know the music is good, when you have intense chills throughout the song !
Damn I forgot how thrilling this was!
The atmosphere from the 98’ album is definitely the one and only, nice job though!
The clearity is unreal. 🖤🖤⚰
you are very beautiful
Cradle of Filths golden era!
Stuart was amazing on guitars!
One of my favourite Cradle songs
Best Cradle Of Filth song ever made ! Right off my favorite album! 🤘🏻🖤🖤🖤.
Agreed. This is Cradles crown jewel. They never reached this peak again. This is pure art.
Damn right... They played the entirety of this album a few years ago, was lucky to see them at in SF, even if the line up has changed so much through the years. That song is spectacular live too :)
They managed to make what already was an awesome album sound even better. This is without a doubt my favourite album from all.
Just have to say that nothing will ever touch this piece of sonic perfection.
Still makes me lose my fucking mind!
The lyrics and music are so incredibly linked it makes me feel like I’m in the story. Still. After all of these years.
5:04 Hell breaks loose.
it's been more than a decade and i can't get enough of this album
Still my favorite Cradle of Filth song. 🤘
Another Anstis Masterpiece!
His song writing and guitar craftsmanship is of another world. I am so thankful that he was in Cradle of Filth and gave us such masterpieces as C&TB. This line up was laced with sonic storytelling and a complete, coherent and emotional chemistry that has stood the test of time and continues to age like a fine wine.
@@HerNameIsMurderProductions I could not have put it better. Exactly. And it's awesome to see well articulated people recognizing what you said. I still remember being shattered when this line-up broke in 1999. What a premature loss when there could have been so much more...
@@JaimeNoro how do people know who makes what since this was never really informed us? I understand that it change a lot cradle from this album to midian. Btw, what happened to him?
@@chevalierdulys fired.....
@@chevalierdulys He and Dani didn't get along, but good lord Stuarts work is amazing. I'll have to say, hate me if you want about this, but I'm glad Stuarts time in this band was short, because he would have gone down in quality in his songs when Cradle got bigger. I hate Cradles new sound, so i'm glad he left with AMAZING musical dignity.
This is a masterpiece of absolute haunting blackness, aggression of power, I've never heard anything so beautiful and fearsome at the same time.
went to london to see the, in 97
been a fan ever since...
IN A TONGUE.... this passage is just spectacular. Always loved the shrieks and howls, and Sarah's amazing vocals on this track.
This wasn't Sarah, this was Ingrid Pitt. She was the actress and lead in the film Countess Dracula (1971) that Dani had as a guest to do voice over lines in the album. She played a version of Bathory in the film. God rest her soul.
IM CRYIN..... FINALLY
ive been counting the days since the announcement 2 years ago
thank heaven and hell

Hell yeah
@@lordgargamel4124 You tough. You true? Listening to COF isn´t that fuckin true.....
I’m still trying to figure out if I like the remistressed album better than the original. Lots of ppl disliked the “typewriter” bassdrums but I kinda like those for this album. New version sounds a little muddy at times, but great too. Hey, having more choice is always good I guess!
@@gammaraider fukin hell I typed an essay in response accidentaly hit the cancel fukin damit
Such a beautiful fucking song.....gets me in the feelers.......the part where it turns into just drums and organ, or keyboard.....whatever....it's amazing.
This one was my favorite of the original album and this new version is even better.
The best album of metal music history...
I heard this on a weird late night radio show 8 years ago. I loved it right away despite the lousy mixing of the original album. The intensity increases towards the end and makes you want to hide in a blanket. For me, Ingrid Pitt's speech is the turning point of this album and she sounds so badass in this edit.
I love this Calming music 🎵 🤘
This album cover is much better. Great song. Much better version. Cleaner and so epic.
One of my all time favs!! 🤘♥️
And have seen live a few times.
As the Demon slavered foetid vows
And bore his prey away
In talons itching to perpetrate
The nausea of eternal rape
Still get chills in 2020 🤘🖤🤘
Perfection 😱😱😱
I enjoy the bass more in the older version, I feel it is more pronounced
They need to make songs this heavy and evil again
oh yes please love it
This is my favorite song on this album. I love the long-winded poetic lyrical style of saying so many words in one measure which is mostly present in their early stuff. The guitar riffs and keyboards are just so good. My take on Nick Barker is that he has more creative, mystical beats that compliment the gothic groove more, whereas Marthus is more creative with the cymbals, but all around heavier and loves his signature cacophonous exreme metal blast beat. Marthus on Godspeed is excellent. I also personally like the original tippy-tappy drum sound of this album. I feel like it offers more to the other instruments and actually sounds in place with the setting of this album. Cruelty really has one of the most beautiful and unique symphonic elements to it of any album. I love how the end of the song becomes this hopeful dream. Also, I love Dani's final screams on this song: FAAAAAAAAIIIITTTHHH and you hear that brutally subtle demonic growl in the background FOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTHHHHH. It's hard to describe CoF to other people.
DUDE, I COULDN'T AGREE MORE WITH YOU, YOU REALLY HIT THE POINT.
listening to COF since 1998 when i found my big brothers K7 , was 10, couldn't sleep at night , but became a night bat after that forever COF MEGA FAN
It sounds great! I love it! Thanks!
Great song! Masterpiece!
Damn I love this song! The remix is super awesome!
Nick is the man
Isnt it just? Love Beneath the howling stars too. The whole lot actually
Three moon dials froze on the shadow of six was the influential phrase for a young me. Thanks for all my problems Dani :P
You can actually hear the cymbals on this remastered version! Difficult to phantom how whoever mixed the original version put them so low in the mix that it was even released. This mix is significantly better.
Rest in peace Ingrid Pitt. She was Countess Dracula (1971) who did the voice of Bathory in the this song and Bathory Aria.
Legende of Metal
THIS IS SO MY STILXUM 🖤
Three moon dials froze in the shadow of 6 as another pass to the grasping Styx ❤
Best concert I been to
What a fuckin song! Got to be one of my favourite COF songs of all time !
I saw someone asking for a VEmpire remaster, but...there's nothing to remaster, fool!
What retard asked for a Vempire remaster??? that record is untouchable.

Οne of the Cradle of Filth darkest intros!
Art in sound.
Дико и страсто и безумно обожаю эту изумительную,дьявольскую,прекрасную группу👿👍👍🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
The keyboards adds a whole new level of epicness to this song, Les Smith was a monster as the keyboard player.
All in all, the best keyboard players Cradle had were:
1. Martin Powell
2. Les Smith
3. Ashley Ellyllon
4. Damien Greg
In fact, they never had bad keyboardists but the ones I mentioned were insanely talented songwriters and shined in their respective records.
i love this song all absolutly!! Its u are still your style !
Esta chimba la canción parceros...good Song 🔥💯🤘
Nick Barker was incredible. COF's loss was Dimmu's gain

My and my friend just had a deep dive over the past few days… This song, Funeral in Carpathia, Bathory Aria, Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids, and Dusk and her Embrace were the 5 we came up with

Well fucking done👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is my favorite Cradle of filth album besides Evermore Darkly. I've been listening to Cradle of filth for over a decade. They got me into metal when I was in high school. Been a metalhead ever since. I got the original cover of this album patch on my metal vest.
