I’m a Vietnamese with ancestry from Tonkin. My 4th great-granduncle fought against the Legionnaires in the battle of Son Tay (1884). Welp, he lost and got demoted. Hearing the song mentioning Tonkin is just chilling for me. Viva la Legion Etrangere!
@@smpanimator6536How? You can't eat a sleeping roll, so why would the Belgians not get any? And originally the Belgians were dissed because one of their kings asked the French to excuse Belgian Legionarres from fighting. In Dahomey I think? Anyway, they got no sausage because they were shirkers.
During the franco-prussian war of 1870 King Leopold of Belgium wouldn't let belgian legionairs participate in the war because he was afraid the war would escalate to Belgian soil. That's why they sing the Belgians are cowards
Apparently, the king of the Belgians asked that Belgian nationals not be used in a war with Prussia (now part of Germany). He had good relations with Prussia and didn't want to be seen supporting France. They sat out the war (probably reluctantly, but who knows), even tho Lorraine's, Swiss, and Alsatians (ethnicities with close links to Germans) still fought. The Legion, I guess, didn't forget.
There's no glory in invading and conquering foreign countries who never did anything to France. France's Colonial Period is of one shameful criminal war after another. France should apologize to all it's former colonies, as should the rest of the Western colonialists. Do they have that courage?

Parait-il que le boudin désigne le sac de couchage plutôt que la saucisse
That makes more sense!
