Not going to lie, the Canon EOS R. I bought it at the end of August because I wanted a new camera for a photo walk tour in London, I was already planning to get a new camera anyway so I fast tracked it l. Beforehand I used the Canon 1100D which was my first camera, it was very lovable but it didn't seem to be of the quality I needed for my future in photography. The camera was a toss up between the EOS R and the EOS 5D, I liked the 5D because it's bigger, slightly heavier and it has the mirror which I like. But I got the EOS R because I listened to people and was told DSLR's are dying and mirrorless is king, so I bought the EOS R. There are two main pet peives with the EOS R though, one is the touchscreen, I dont like touchscreen and I sometimes hit the screen and change my focus point whilst going for the veiwfinder, and also the battery, it does not last anywhere near the time of my old camera and the batteries are expencive for it. Overall I still like the camera and it will stick with me through univercity and beyond.
@ thanks for the comment! I know what you mean about the touch screen its frustrating at times. I’m relatively used to it coming from the canon M50 but that Touch Bar thing is rather ridiculous. The Eos R has the same sensor as the 5d IV which is nice so you’re always guaranteed that quality just with the annoyance of no focus joystick. I got used to it with the M50 so it’s not too much of a deal breaker for me. As for the battery I’ve had no issue with them at all. they were pretty decent but again I’m coming from the tiny LPE17 batteries which are complete rubbish. When I purchased the camera I paid £60 for an extra three after market batteries (neewer ones) and they are pretty decent they come with a three way charger as well. I think a lot of the issues with the EOS R were fixed with the R6 model cameras. Problem is it’s a bit more of a financial investment. Again thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
What gear are you using in 2025?
