It IS pretty awesome. There are a number of blogs I've lately been following, and it strikes me that they all show a different level of emotional temperature. You, among them, are the confident, robust hiker who knows he can do it. It makes those rare moments of you showing discomfort or even doubt that much more convincing. In this vid some 'making of', showing just how professional you have become at it. I'm looking forward to your new plans and adventures!
Every time I do a trail, I hike it for Different Reasons. The AT was a way for me to develop as a Hiker, spend 4-6 months with my Wife in a Raw State, & make lots of Friendships along the way by submerging myself in the Hiking Comunity... Success! The PCT was a "Challenge" for me. I wanted to see how far I could push myself, test my limits, & find out what type of Hiker I am. From Day 1 (20 Miles), I went out to Hike Fast & get inside my own head. The hike was truly about Testing Myself... Success! Next year when I Thru-Hike the AZT, it's to shoot a Full-Length Documentary to showcase the Amazing Trail Community, the Raw Beauty/Energy of the trail, & why these National Scenic Trails are so important. Going out to create something that I can give back to the Hiking Community that has given me so much (Read about it here - www.patreon.com/darwinonthetrail)... Meeting people along the way & having "Fun" times is the Bonus that comes along with doing a Thru-Hike. Everyone hikes these trails for different reasons & I always try to represent the True Meaning, Feeling, & Raw Energy of the hike in my videos for the viewer to feel what I'm feeling... Thanks for Watching!
Hike On,
Darwin
Hi Darwin,
First, thanks for your thoughtful and extensive answer. I really appreciate it that you have taken the time to write these words.
Second. I find the words 'true meaning, feeling, raw energy of the hike' very revealing for your approach. You are not out to bare your soul to the public every day, I don't see any artificial tension arcs in your videos, just the hike and the hiking. And, as I said before, I like it a lot.
Some of the other comments under this video suggest you might wish to insert some more interaction with other hikers, show a bit more of the 'works behind the scenes'. I, for one, would be interested to see what you make of that; you could extend, I think, your videos with another 10 minutes, I'm sure that would not negatively affect public interest.
Of course, there is always going to be an element of artifice in what you present on youtube; some stuff is always going to remain hidden, and where you draw the line is your decision. I have read your very polite answers to some rather negative comments under past videos, and I can only admire your tact in dealing with these; in reverse, these type of comments might make you hesitant to be over-sharing. One cannot, I think, live one's entire life under the eye of the camera, there has to be some time and space for yourself, and I get the idea that you are consciously guarding that space: well done for you, again! But (haha, always that 'but') there are aspects about you (and your wife) that intrigue me, like you having been the owner of a pizzeria and of a recording studio. It might be an interesting angle to future videos to use that a little more, for instance, by explaining why that particular pizza you ate at that tank stop restaurant was so very good, or by making an entire video on your music choices. You could insert interviews with people relevant to or interesting for the hiking community, and I also liked the videos that featured Snuggles on her own. Just some ideas. Anyway, keep on developing as a hiker... and as a documentary maker. I'll be watching it!
Cheers,
Ton v.O. (m)
i realize I'm quite randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released series online ?
@@DarwinOnthetrail I really want to thank you for sharing this amazing experience with us! I enjoyed it very much and I learned a lot from your adventure.
If that’s the worst of your outtakes then you made things pretty easy on Cat. :). You did great, so did Cat. What a wonderful gift it is to your life to hike this trail. Sure glad the folks of our country had the will to make it happen and the desire keep it alive. Peace to you all.
This may have been one of my Favorites!! Why you ask? It makes everything you did seem more real to me. We watch your channel instead of TV. We gave up our actual television and cable a couple of years ago. And thanks to you and others like Dixie we don't miss it a bit. Thanks for all you do. Awesome job and you have come a long way baby! No pun intended :-)
Congrats (D ). Glad you included me in your adventure. Was fun tagging along. Make it a great day.
You really make it seem effortless and easy to hike and film but I know how hard all that is to do. Thanks for sharing your adventure and yourself. Love you!
Well done, Darwin...thanks for taking us along for the walk!
Awesome! Congratulations, and glad,to see some of the funnier sides of the camera shots! And, un, thanks for bringing us all with you, it was spectacular!
Thanks for coming along Bob!
Hike On,
Darwin
The plant at 10:07 is called a snow plant or snow flower (Sarcomas sanguinea). It lacks chlorophyll and therefore cannot photosynthesize. Native to the Sierra Nevada and the Cascades, it has a rather complex parasitic relationship with another plant and a fungi. More information

This was awesome. As much as I enjoyed (all) the PCT episodes, this was the most enjoyable video for me to watch you’ve made. Love this. Please do more of these.
I think you’re normal videos are so well put together that it’s nice to see some impromptu stuff.
I"ve just finished watching the entire PCT playlist, again.
It's just as awesome the second time.
Thnks again for sharing the ride, sir.
Cheers!
This video gives people an idea of how much work goes into filming a thru hike! Nice job, Darwin! (And Kat!) :)
Thanks for taking us along. I have enjoyed your videos, Can't wait for your next adventure! Thanks for inspiring this old man to get back out in the woods!
Thanks for Coming Along!
Hike On,
Darwin
even the 'bad' shots look great...fantastic achievement Darwin...good to see your videos still...
Thanks Mark!
Hike On,
Darwin
hello darwin... enjoy your vlogs. between you and dixie i get all my vicarious long trail hiking in. good to see the idea that we can still walk this awesome country of ours.
I'm super happy to see I'm not the only person who needs to start over when talking to the camera!
I absolutely love your channel I love when it's time for bed and I can pull up one of your videos and just sit and watch and let my mind drift Please keep them coming
Thanks! I try...lol
Hike On,
Darwin
Lol no problem I'm addicted to your videos This weekend in Boston we're gonna have a nor'easter. I have my gear all set and me and the wife want to camp in it, you made me crazy with backpacking lol. We want to do a section of the Appalachian trail next spring in New Hampshire. This will be our first big hike ever so being a newbie this will be a hell of an experience.
Seems that the capturing of the video is just as much work as walking the trail, lol. It’s nice to see that you have outtakes like the rest of us, love it!
This video was just as AWESOME as your trail videos. Keep doing pist trail reviews on your gear and what a PCT hiker should plan for. I hike a lot but never a thru hike.
Completing the PCT is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations, sir! Looking forward to seeing some vids of the Blue Ridge Parkway soon. Congrats on that, too!
Thanks!
Hike On,
Darwin
Just great! Thanks for the beautiful, funny and emotional moments, Darwin!
Greetings from Switzerland. Matts
Darwin: *lays down in the tent, gets set up, finds a good place to frame myself, figures out exposure and focusing, FLUFFS BEARD*
Me: LMAO!
Beard Fluffing is SOOO important!

I think thats your next video idea! You're Top 5 Ways to Look Good on the Trail!
In all seriousness, I like your videos! I hiked around Mt. Hood about 2 months ago and watching your footage of hiking the PCT made me realize I need to hike the PCT before I'm 35. Hope to catch you on the trail sometime!
Congrats! love the bit with the bug on your leg andthe one where you were getting attacked by the brush
Thank you for documenting all of this. I just watched all of the videos in just a few days. I really want to do this one day. For the next few years I am going to try and start up a Wilderness Club for at risk and troubled teens in NW Wyoming near Cody and YNP.
I like this you better than the animated you of your regular videos. This was fun to watch. Next time you do a video on "Gear you can't leave behind on a thruhike", make sure you bring up that mosquito netting you were wearing on your head. That weighs like nothing and I'm sure it gave you so much relief. Congrats again on your remarkable achievement. This was your Triple Crown, right? Hoowah!
Not yet his triple crown, he hasn’t done the whole CDT yet
I caught a glimpse of Chicken Springs Lake! We hiked up there for lunch last Friday. Good times 🌲🐻🌲
SOOOO Beautiful!
Hike On,
Darwin
This was fun! Thanks for putting it up here. Good job, Cat!
Congratulations on your trip! I enjoyed watching!
I finished in late July and have really enjoyed reliving some sections through your videos!
late july ? that's pretty fast isn't it?
Nice! Congrats on your finish Hiker Trash!!!
Hike On,
Darwin
@@dansynth8408 I started in late March and went straight through the Sierra which helped!
This is great. Thank you so much to those of whom involved. Hike on
About 14:30 - it's a snow flower. Love the videos
10:04 Cool, good eye on that ID.
So I just finished the entire series. And i am not saying that I do not like your face, but maaaan, we got to see your face a lot mate :D
I would have loved to see a little bit more nature, and maybe some little interviews with your fellow hikers, to actually " meet " some of them :)
Apart from that, I loved the series. The inspirsation I got from you, is limitless.
To the next mile!
Those few moments when you're ready to shoot a scene, open you mouth, and, long hesitation .......... "EDIT that Kat!"
Thanks for this fun vid Darwin.
Thanks for sharing!! Enjoyed the whole PCT series.
This side of you is super fun, thanks for sharing
Great to see all the extra stuff! Good to know a lot of people have the same difficulties while filming that I do!
Oh yeah! It comes with filming for sure!
Hike On,
Darwin
How could you not like this video: out of focus, shaky to the point of nausea, too dark, too bright, picture out of frame, slanted and crossways! Kat you did an awesome job!! Thanks Darwin!
Great video. Can’t wait to see the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Very awesome! Congrats on another milestone achievement.
Excellent!!!! Funny all the messages to Kat as you hiked...
Well done! Thank you for sharing with those of us who can only dream.
The best video from PCT! So funny and true!) Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks for documenting your adventures.
Great stuff, hope you do more of these !
I loved seeing mile 1!!
Thank you for all of your videos really makes me wanna hit the pct for sure
GET OUT THERE!!!!
Hike On,
Darwin
I agree with the comment below that this was more fun to watch. You seemed less serious and more at ease. You were “fun Darwin.” Would like to see your sense of humor come out more! I also liked seeing other hikers. It would have been interesting as part of your videos to at least get an introduction to them. You hiked with a few of them for a while. What was their story? The dog in the hat was great! So was the llama. All these things, the people and unusual encounters, along with the stunning panaromas are what make the trail so interesting. You’re great too!

Blu-ray Extra Features! Love it!
The madden thing is so accurate
I have no Idea what either of you are talking about...lol
Hike On,
Darwin
... just thanks for this all Darwin.
Amazing videos collection! If it is ok with you, I would like to show your videos to the scouts during some of our weekly meeting. Your videos can help motivate the kids to go out and enjoy the outdoors!
Heck Yeah! That would be great!
Hike On,
Darwin
Simply, thank you Darwin!
Great video. It was nice to hear your laugh, too.
Thanks!

Thanks for the out takes!!!
No prob!

“I’m not really a video game guy” 😂😂😂
What, no face plants, no missteps, no spilled meals, no stream crossing spills?
There were definitely a couple but unfortunately the camera wasn't rolling...lol
Hike On,
Darwin
I was also hoping for some falls into the streams!
This should be a regular feature for you and Dixie.
Perhaps...

Loved seeing moonshine and bean dip. :)
thanks for sharing that moments
Thanks for Watching!

Darwin
Bravo! I loved it, thanks for sharing.
Ok, one more: Trans Canada Trail! You can do it!
Thanks Darwin
Darwin. Risk of doing a Ankle in shoes? possibly covered somewhere.
I really enjoyed this video... thanks
Love it! Looking forward to more:)
I think you should do some more of the national scenic trails on camera. Especially the AT because the last time you did it, it was just pictures
You mean videos like my 2016 AT Series, 2017 CDT Section Hike, 2017 AZT Section, 2018 Pinhoti Thru-Hike, etc?...😂 Search around on the channel, you’ll find them.

I’ve never been a video game guy. YES!
We had alot of those types of Conversation. They always ended the same way....lol
Hike On,
Darwin
Loved it!!!
So. All of this is what Cat had to deal with? Amazing she stayed on. She really did an excellent now see ok ng what see had to work with. Haha
You are the man!!
Those flowers were snow plants!
THANK YOU
“I’ve never really been a video game guy”.....lmao. Same here.
At 8:06 why did the hikers crawl on their knees in the snow? Love your videos!
The top crust of snow wouldn't support their weight, they'd post hole. So they spread their weight by crawling.

It was INSANE!

Did you loose the spork along this trail somewhere? Maybe you can see where you put it.
My trail name is Chubs McRoundhouse...Jr....The 3rd.
Hi Darwin, I see that you don't have your gators on at the end of the trail. Why?
Have you ever thought about doing the PNT??
Why yes I have!
Hike On,
Darwin
why do you keep saying 2652?
You video taped it but didn't say those magical words we have come to expect from you.....post-holing.
We couldn't put "Those" Outtakes in the video. Not appropriate...lol

I'll fight those sunflowers too!
FIRST!!! WHOOOOOEEEOOOOOOOEEEEE!!
Gee, that took a lot of talent. Very special.
"I've never been a video game guy" ;)

As a non-native English speaker the word 'Thru' makes me want to vomit, anyone else has that issue? Is it slang for through by the way?
It is slang for through, the phrase you might be referring to is to throw up, lol.
Maybe you don't want to bore people with too much detail, but it seems like the videos would be much better with just a few seconds of natural history. What are the trees and bushes you are walking through? What is the geology of the regions? Just a few seconds per episode would make it much more rich.
Did he say snakes? I'll fight them!
I actually wish you would have used many of the out takes in your videos. I fully appreciate the difficulty in shooting on through hikes, but felt that they were a bit sterile at times. I like the interactions with other hikers, the crazy winds popping umbrellas, tripods falling, and the other not so pretty things that just happen.
Love to see your videos improve with your monumental achievements and experiences.
Look forward to your next adventure. Peace!

this is better than no vid at all, but this has relatively little substance.. dixie manages to put out multiple vids a week.. step it up... more gear reviews, etc.. - tough love
WOW... This is an unbelievably RUDE comment. You know these videos are free right? No one makes you watch them? Perhaps you can create your own channel, take time out of your life to create videos, & show me how to "Step It Up"..... You should consider Unsubscribing from my channel since it is not up to your standards.
