I know that this was five years ago for you Darwin, but for me it's brand new and I'm enjoying you and your style on the PCT! Thank you so much for your incredible documentation and hard work to make this epic multipart UA-cam series.
First video talking about "us," "we," and "our"...no longer a solo hike! Glad to see another week of fun...no injuries, fairly uneventful. Bummer about Mr. Night Terrors!!!
You've got to change your descriptions, not fellow hikers, Fellow Mountain Climbers!! Super happy to see you are with others, being safe, and being smart. We have a great country and you are sharing it with the world, go Darwin!!
This week pretty much summed up the essence of what makes up the amazement of hiking for me. a big old mountain, a landscape that is so amazing and alien that you can only experience it by going out there on foot + the whole experience of actually doing all this by yourself. there is simply no better feeling in the world than completing a good mountain hike and coming back to town afterwards. i enjoyed this episode a lot! keep on hiking, always!
Great footage, man. Really great to see Whitney after doing the HST last September and climbing Whitney. Brought back some some great memories....stay safe!!!
I'm considering Whitney at the end of summer. Definitely a notch on the bucket list. Thanks for showing more of the terrain through this section. I hope you went to Schats bakery while you were in Bishop!
I love your videos! Especially how you describe the trail and how you truly enjoy it. Definitely a huge inspiration for me! Can't wait for the next video of your PCT hike!
Not that you ever seem grumpy or anything, but there were a couple of deeper relaxed smiles on you in this video than I have seen in a while. Good to see!
So awesome.... and I knew you had moved to the BW the moment I saw the round arches/wall... and before you even mentioned it ;) I stayed there in 2016 right before camping at Tuolumne Meadows and hiking my 2 miles on the PCT (so far LOL). Fantastic video, love your journey!
Beautiful, breathtaking, amazing! I am so Jealous!!! My Brother, my Son, and possibly 2 others and I are going to do a 70 mile section hike on the AT in September; I can't wait to hit the trail!
Went on my first overnight hike of the year last weekend in the Trinity Alps. Nw I'm really Jonesing for some more backpacking and your videos are only making the craving worse. I just need to wait until the end of August for my only real backpacking trip (2+ weeks) of the year. I think my favorite pass in the Sierra is Probably Mather. I love the Upper Basin on the south side of it.
Wow. What a night in that hostel. Congrats on the two big summits! Colorful little town. Love your videos. Such gorgeous places. Be safe and God bless you.
Nice job with Whitney! I aborted my attempt due to shin-splints! I was over doing it and carrying too much weight. Sometimes you learn things the hard way. Really enjoyed your videos on this tremendous hike! More power to ya!
Freaking LOVE your vids, brother!! Hate when they end. I'm turning 50 this year and we are avid hikers. I haven't hiked Whitney yet... might do it in my 50th year.
Damn, sorry to hear about your weird experience at hostel California. I stayed there and never had a problem. I thought it was such a great place. Slept well. People were very respectful and always friendly. They even lend us crash pads to go bouldering for the day for free!
Enjoyed the video and the trail report. One thing I wish all hikers include in the video is the dates. I only saw one hiker always starts the video with with the date. Can you include some the large stream and river crossings how difficult some are. Thank you.
I don't think it's too much to ask to put dates. I'm going up Whitney in late September and am curious about when they went up, what with all the snow. The sites do say that late June there is likely still snow, though, and that snow and ice often begin to start building again in September. You can always post the vids a couple of weeks after the actual section hike. That helps take care of worrying about random fans showing up at the next stop.
Darwin's resigned delivery as he described his experience at The Hostel California was hilarious! I'd like to be able to see the look on his face and peer into his thoughts every time he got blasted from below by that guy screaming obscenities in the wee hours of the morning.
Hey Darwin, I have been watching your journey on the pct and I am living thru you! Sure would like to meet up with you when you get to Washington. Keep the videos coming my friend and happy trails!
This is more a general comment - not directed at Darwin, but I always wondered why folks who are semi supported (have friends / spouse, that will meet them) don't just blaze through Kennedy Meadows and connect at Cottonwood lakes campground area (which is less than 2 miles off trail), and get their bear can and snow stuff there. If you do that, it is easy to skip going off trail over Kearsarge pass and you can stay on trail until VVR or Muir trail camp.... Actually, if you are moving quickly, you can go all the way to Red's Meadows if you do that. There are a number of folks who do that and it seems like a good strategy, I don't understand why more folks don't do that. Nothing wrong with the way that you are doing it, but you can spend more time on trail and go more or less directly through the Sierras without a massive off trail resupply.
Good week. I'm so jealous you did whitney. Going in August Glad to see your health and legs are good. How many miles have you covered since last week post.
Thanks Dude. Those Mountain Passes through the High Sierra got my juices running, more like Mountaineering than hiking. I Have a sentimental attachment to Mt. Whitney. I did the 22 mile up and down hike several times in my 20's. This was before bear cans, permits, lotteries etc. In addition as a student of Sanskrit, I have studied "Whitney's Sanskrit Grammar" (they were brothers). In addition as a ham operator, I have chewed on operating a small Morse Code rig from the top of Whitney, that is if I can dodge lightening bolts with 20 to 30 feet of wire antenna? The question is: Bear cans are unavoidable but is there a section hike to the Summit of Whitney that avoids some of the red tape? I'm an old man and would like to summit Whitney again before I croak ☠ Thanks Dude.
Awesome. Didn’t hear when you started for Whitney, just early morning, was kind of curious. Sad about the guy having night daemons. Carry on, onward and downward, at least until your ready for Denali (Mt. McKinley 20320’).
Just curious, how many calories a day do you eat on average? Pizza sure seems to be the number one choice for a lot of backpackers due to the high calories I assume.
Question: How does it work leaving your tent/gear behind to go up Mt Whitney? Are there ever any instances of stuff going missing?..(I think I'd be worried)... or is it just so remote 'those kind of people' can't get onto the trail?
Thank you for sharing beautiful trail views. (I have a phobia and cannot climb ever, so I don’t know why I ended up in your channel, but I am glad that I am able to enjoy what you and Snuggles share with us: her writings and book reviews are insightful) I guess as you been saying, thru hiking is like being on an emotional roller coaster, so you bump into yourself going ups and downs and sometimes you unexpectedly run into others experiencing those emotional heaps and so on. How do you cope/deal/live with it when others have those emotional venting going?
I guess your way behind releasing your videos. Forester Pass didn't have that much snow 2 weeks ago. Also I saw that you met Tom and Becky from across the pond.
Man! I live in Bishop. Would have totally hooked you up. But didn't know when you were here. Love the vids, but haven't been watching your Instagram sadly.
I was curious, I noticed that someone crossed a creek/river barefoot...is this commonly done or do you see this a lot? I can understand not wanting to walk with wet feet. Have you picked up your waterproof socks yet? and if you have how are they working out?
I like your attitude pretty mellow guy. If I was young, I would try to mimic the way you speak. Like when I saw a great white shark during a night dive in la Jolla CA. I would say: " I am hanging out with this wonderful creature. " I'll try to swim slowly back to shore." It was a mix of fear but amazement. She circled twice around me. Why panic. I knew they were around. Many swimmers she probably passed by. You're a mountain man. You'd do fine out there. In the sea.
That's some serious vertical ground coverage, what a day!! Whitney is a mighty colorful feather in any hikers cap. There wasn't any footage of the switchbacks or ridge climb... did you have to use your micro-spikes or ice axe?
What gorgeous weather for the Mt Whitney climb! Also either there were not too many other hikers or you did a great job of keeping them out of the video. Can I ask which was it?
Am impressive ascent, the more so for having been achieved without supplemental O2 (which I am sure I require). 4:00 What big squirrels are found in the mountains!
hey Darwin, I'm climbing Whitney July 8th, I'm concerned about ice axe and micro spikes, I will not be using them, did you use your ice axe and micro spikes?
Football. Sometimes sou Loose, sometime the others win. What about Schweinsteiger? He is a grandpa with a funny Name. BTW i didn't watch the worldcup because of Situation of the next FIFA-Cup in Qatar.
Love this video series... great observations on the group hike.
You've got to change your descriptions, not fellow hikers, Fellow Mountain Climbers!! Super happy to see you are with others, being safe, and being smart. We have a great country and you are sharing it with the world, go Darwin!!

I guess Im quite off topic but does anyone know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
Great video- esp loved the scene at 8:25. Nice to recall the hike I did there a few years ago. One of the best stretches of trail in America.
I got off the PCT at Kearsage Pass today also! Needed to add some stuff to my resupply before VVR. Decided on Independence instead of Bishop though.
Good work, Darwin. Awesome to share your view at the summit and pass.
this makes me miss home, i lived near three rivers the majority of my life. Climbed Whitney a few times. Amazing hike
Great footage, man. Really great to see Whitney after doing the HST last September and climbing Whitney. Brought back some some great memories....stay safe!!!
Always nice to see you in good shape, enjoying the days !
Keep up the good work !
And Enjoy the nature for us all !
This was such a great video. The joy on your face when you got to the top of forester pass was inspirational.
Wow! Great views. Really enjoyed the video. You make it look easy. I would be wheezing all the way. You're very inspirational. Thank you!
Been looking forward to this part of the series. I really enjoy the mountains much more than the desert both from a viewing and a hiking perspective.
Amazing footage, Darwin. Thank you for taking us along for the ride :) Definite vicarious enjoyment on my end
Great video! Had to chuckle out loud about the night terrors!
Not that you ever seem grumpy or anything, but there were a couple of deeper relaxed smiles on you in this video than I have seen in a while. Good to see!
Wow. Some amazing views and places.
Thank you for sharing.
Goods stuff! Looks like you’re getting your hiking grove and your video grove back on. Favorite of you PCT videos thus far.
I not only appreciate the content of your video… I really appreciate the production value… Great job… Hike on!
Dang. You make it look easy! I went in via kearsarge pass for 2-3 days & that was a huge workout in itself! (Needed more preparation/planning). Nice!
Super stoked you get to do the PCT. I hope it becomes your new favorite!
Dude you’re a beast Whitney zapped me, that 14,000 feet is tough breathing right there. Congratulations a good solid hike. 😂🍻👍
Coming at Whitney from the JMT/PCT has you better prepared and acclimated than the portal trail.
Beautiful, breathtaking, amazing! I am so Jealous!!!
My Brother, my Son, and possibly 2 others and I are going to do a 70 mile section hike on the AT in September; I can't wait to hit the trail!
Doing great... keep it going. I look for your new episodes everday!

I'm turning 50 this year and we are avid hikers. I haven't hiked Whitney yet... might do it in my 50th year.
Do it! It's actually pretty easy to get last minute permits in Lone Pine Ranger Station
I'm 63 and I'm thinking about doing it for the first time
Dave Weaston - hope u did it for the 50th!
Best scenery yet! Someday I will section hike that area. Thanks for the vid.
Amazing scenery! Good narrative also. Great to follow your journey. Thanks!
You're about to hit my fav part of the sierra. Its really spectacular for 100 miles or so north of kearsarge.
Thanks for showing what the trail Angels are about.
Just WOW! great video, amazing views and just want to be there myself. Really enjoy your videos!!
Just got home with new sports tshirts and watched the video. Thanks Darwin
I'm glad you didn't do Whitney alone! Keep on trucking!
Damn, sorry to hear about your weird experience at hostel California. I stayed there and never had a problem. I thought it was such a great place. Slept well. People were very respectful and always friendly. They even lend us crash pads to go bouldering for the day for free!

Not only dates but places... where they are, and when they are there... small text inserts would be easy to do.
If it was me, I wouldn't use dates and locations mostly for privacy reasons.
That's cuz your a celebrity so you might get mobbed at every town LOL
I don't think it's too much to ask to put dates. I'm going up Whitney in late September and am curious about when they went up, what with all the snow. The sites do say that late June there is likely still snow, though, and that snow and ice often begin to start building again in September.

Most beautiful shots so far💪🏻
What a fantastic video, well done.
If you get off trail in Mammoth Lakes, hit me up! I work at a brewery in town so beers on me...or a ride if you need one.
Victor Lester lol this videos are a few weeks behind where he really is. He’s already past Burney, check his Instagram
Darwin's resigned delivery as he described his experience at The Hostel California was hilarious! I'd like to be able to see the look on his face and peer into his thoughts every time he got blasted from below by that guy screaming obscenities in the wee hours of the morning.
Excellent stuff! Posts are just outstanding, keep on trucking keep it safe!
Majestic definitely will be one of the highlights of your trip thanks for sharing!
Hey Darwin, I have been watching your journey on the pct and I am living thru you! Sure would like to meet up with you when you get to Washington. Keep the videos coming my friend and happy trails!
2:55 somebody shut the dang window! A beautiful video with wonderful views. Now I want to do it. Shoutout to Pat for her editing skills.

congratulations on your climb i love watching your videos very well done from sleepless in seattle
Good week. I'm so jealous you did whitney. Going in August
Glad to see your health and legs are good. How many miles have you covered since last week post.
Beautiful scenery. You're making this look too easy!
could be best episode yet.
Amazing!! Wow! Can’t wait for the next week!
Nice one Darwin. Beautiful scenery.....stay safe mate 😉
Amazing footage of Mt. Whitney 😍

Thank you for those beautiful vlog, you inspire me.
Amazing accomplishment Darwin. Congrats.
Love your videos! I have a question for you. If I was going to hike only one section of the AT in my entire life, which one should it be?
Awesome. Didn’t hear when you started for Whitney, just early morning, was kind of curious. Sad about the guy having night daemons. Carry on, onward and downward, at least until your ready for Denali (Mt. McKinley 20320’).

Yesss the weekly gift to UA-cam!! Keep it up!
Man it's beautiful out there! That summit is amazing!!
Bishop is my home town. I had a bear steal all my food by Kersarge pass once. Great video.
Great video!, love your channel, it has a great cinematic and true feeling to it. keep them Coming, and come to Patagonia, Chile!
Question: How does it work leaving your tent/gear behind to go up Mt Whitney? Are there ever any instances of stuff going missing?..(I think I'd be worried)... or is it just so remote 'those kind of people' can't get onto the trail?
Awesome footage and views! Thanks for sharing.
What’s your trail name Darwin? Thanks for sharing your journey, really enjoy the scenery.
He said in an earlier episode that he doesn't really have a trail name and that it's just Darwin. Cheers!
Glad you are having the best time ever
Nice pics of the back side of Whitney lots of snow.
Thank you for sharing beautiful trail views. (I have a phobia and cannot climb ever, so I don’t know why I ended up in your channel, but I am glad that I am able to enjoy what you and Snuggles share with us: her writings and book reviews are insightful)

Another great vid, love from the UK brother.
Love watching your videos
You just cruised over the whole night terror thing. That's pretty nuts.
glad your going up Whitney....I have not seen anyone summit this peak on the video's I'm following...have fun.....
V Poppawolf Dixie from homemade wanderlust did it last year I think :)
I'm talking about the group of hikers I am following this year....
I'm going hiking the PCT next year!
Amazing! You make out look so easy. I'm training to get there (Whitney, not PCT)!
I guess your way behind releasing your videos. Forester Pass didn't have that much snow 2 weeks ago. Also I saw that you met Tom and Becky from across the pond.
Looks that way. His Instagram posted forrester pass being days 44-47. Pics posted on May 19!!
LIVIN!! L-I-V-I-N... Very motivating to watch
Man! I live in Bishop. Would have totally hooked you up. But didn't know when you were here. Love the vids, but haven't been watching your Instagram sadly.
Congratulations on MT. Whitney. Looks like the altitude didn't really get to you.
This is a very nice Awesome Adventure there keep on hiking
Beautiful. Love the music too.
I was curious, I noticed that someone crossed a creek/river barefoot...is this commonly done or do you see this a lot? I can understand not wanting to walk with wet feet. Have you picked up your waterproof socks yet? and if you have how are they working out?
What a wild time you are having!!!

Wow! Really amazing! Best wishes from Germany!
Sparkassenmensch What happened in the World Cup? I had a feeling they would lose without Sweinstiger.
Off topic, doubt he wants to talk about it and you spelt Schweinsteiger wrong.
Football. Sometimes sou Loose, sometime the others win. What about Schweinsteiger? He is a grandpa with a funny Name. BTW i didn't watch the worldcup because of Situation of the next FIFA-Cup in Qatar.
Awesome experience thanks for sharing.
Congrats on Whitney.
Thanks. Always a good story
Guy in the hostel had nightmares about going back to work after the PCT
Haii Darwin I was wondering the lenght of the corsa axe you are using is it 60cm or 70cm ?
