I really like your knowledge on the mx5 thank you
I wished I knew all about that stuff. My dad gave me a harmony box. I'm getting a mic & working in getting the proper Amp for it all. Thanks for sharing. And no apology is needed for the new baby! But I did laugh at the beginning because I thought that before said it.
So it adds harmonies while you are singing? That sounds like fun.
Congratulations on the new baby
Thanks!!!! He is doing great.
Thanks for another great video. I am using the MX5 with the AMP1 and your videos have been so very helpful. I am trying the MX5 in the effects loop on parallel. It allows me to use the volume pedal to mix in the effects level. Have you ever tried this out. It also keeps the analog signal solid from guitar to speaker so no latency.
I have tried the parallel option yet but I was using the Amp1 in the loop of my Gigboard with excellent results. I will be doing a video on that soon.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Hey Doc. That would be great to hear how you have come to running the Amp1 after a while using it. I’m pretty fresh to the set up but love the Amp1 and I can imagine the amazing possibilities when combined with the Mx5 or helix. If have tried the 4 cable method but it just doesn’t feel right. I’m fine with losing the Mx5 drives and having everything after my drive section in the Mx5. So I was thinking the Mx5 in the effects loop of the amp 1. The parallel just sounded better of the two. I feel like I need to check my global settings to get the levels right and retry the 4 cable method. I look forward to seeing what you have come up with. Thanks for all the great content and education.
I have headrush mx5 and yamaha thr10x as amplifier, when I use thr10x as sound monitor the output sound is not good enough in clean chanel, what should i do to use it, straight to aux output or buy in-ear monitor? thank you
Thanx for the vid! How is the quality with headphones? Furthermore, I wonder whether I should buy a pair of FRFR's or a pair of studio monitors. Do U think I could get overdriven sounds at a lower volume levels with MX5 into studio monitors than with an OD pedal into an amp combo (Plumes into JC-40). So that I won't drive my wife crazy (even further). Thanx very much!
How do different power amps/tubes effect the mx5 in the room? Like some Fenders and Marshalls count on power amp clipping too.
the Master volume on the amp sims will replicate the power amp distortion when turned up. There will be a small difference in solid state vs tube power amps but may not be enough to notice in a room. Just crank it up and have fun.
I bought the dt 770s. Why does only one side function when plugging into the output?
I am currently using my HeadRush MX5 through a small solid state Fender amp in clean mode with no effects. It sounds pretty good, but I back ordered a HeadRush 108 to try out. The 108 FRFR speaker is lightweight, and the price is low. I also have some headphones, but I prefer a real speaker.
where do u plug into the back of the MX5 when going to the headrush 108?
I recently purchased the mx5 and was introduced to doc McFarland videos and quickly subscribed. The issue I’m having is when I find a good sounding rig thru my headphones… it sounds like crap at band practice thru a FRFR cranked up… and vice versa… find a good sound cranked and when I get home it sounds like crap thru headphones. Are there headphones that you would recommend to make the transition a lot closer than now? (Currently using AKG72s for headphones)
I mainly listen through studio monitors and really enjoy Audio Technica headphones. Which FRFR are you using?
How about using the stereo returns as an input from a keyboard... just wondering, as it seems like the flexibility of the chain would allow you to build two seperate paths... like guitar in for some of the fx, then an output for that using the stereo sends... then an input for a keyboard through another mini chain to the main outputs... just a thought, views?
The new Prime can do split paths but you won't get that functionality with the "legacy" units.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Thanks for the info :) Fast response - impressive!
Would using the phones out or even both line outs to one headrush supply stereo effects ?
Yes a Phones out or L/R line outs to two channels on an interface or mixing board will give you stereo results assuming that setup is feeding two speakers and not just one speaker.
Question for you, is it ok to run a 108 and a 112 together or just run two 108.
yeah man you can totally do that.
what shotgun mic are you using?, (just a side note), coz it sounds really good, i also have the mx5 that's why im watching your video
I got the Rode NTG 2. I really like it so far.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios ok thankz sir, appreciate your reply
Great video Thanks
How’s theBaby?
We had one that wouldn’t sleep properly for a longish time
I feel your challenge👍👍
Baby is doing great :)
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios I’m21 years on from that stage , if I may say memorise every giggle and smile because you forget them too easily 😁👍xx
Until i get an frfr 108 im going mx5 into the aux in of a peavey vypyr vip2 40w 12" this should work on a katana too. Seems unflavored for mp3 music playback and peavey advertises fr multi instrument speaker for bass keys synth guitar. I cant compare to frfr108 yet but its much more convincing and pleasing than going into a twin or trace elliot model on the input of the vypyr using my SLO drive and Engle powerball hi gain models on my mx5. I got the Vypyr for $75 on fb
Sounds like a cool setup.
Hi There, I’ve watched almost all your Mx5 videos but can’t seem to figure out how to split my output signal, so that i can independently set my output lvl sent to Foh, and then turn up my monitor lvl. The issue im having is that my monitor isnt loud, but the lvl being sent to the mixer is already very high. Any help would be greatly appreciate! Thanks
that option is only available on the Pedalboard and the Core. Not the MX5 and Gigboard. If it was I certainly would have covered it.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Thanks so much for you reply. Is there a solution to run into an Frfr speaker which then has an option to increase the volume of the speaker itself without affecting the Foh level? If so can you recommend me any Frfr’s that could do this?
Your only option is to utilize the headphone out to run to your FRFR and then control the volume on your speaker.
can i know why i cant hear my mx5 when i already connected my headphone to using phone hole, i cant hear my playback on reaper, help me sir
send me a message on my website with some pics of your settings. Gotta be something simple.
If I buy an amp with FX return and send, can I use the amp and cab simulators in my mx5?
I would not use the Cab sims because you already have a physical guitar speaker providing that part of the chain. If you want to use cab sims then an FRFR speaker would be ideal.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios How much difference does that make in sound? Let's say I want to hit a John Mayer Fender type tone. So I simulate a Fender Amp in my Headrush, but run it through another physical amp (that will work just as a cab then?). Will it sound like some weird mix? Appreciate it :)
@@gratengelsker7614 sending an amp model to the FX return of an amp will sound great. Its when you plug into the input of an amp is when things can sound weird because you are blending the preamp of the physical amp with an amp model. Same weirdness can happen why a guitar speaker (not FRFR) and a cab sim/IR. Its a sound I don't prefer but you can try it out to see what you think.
if someone know dynamic range of mx 5 ? its over 120 db? or less than that?
there are specs on the Headrush website
There is a way to Connect mx5 direct to FOH and use the amp to monitor?
You would have to use the Headphone out to go to FOH and the Left line out to go to an amp but you won't have independent volume control over either output.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios I see, thanks. I thought that using a return box in the effects chain it would possible! Thanks! 😁
umm yeah you could do that. Put an FX Loop block right before the cab and use the Send of the FX Loop to send to an input of an amp. But without a return signal you would be bypassing the cab entirely so the signal being send to FOH wouldn't have a cab and would not sound very good.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios amazing dude, thanks!
Hi
What are you in-ears reference please?
Thanks
My recent pair are from Ultimate Ears.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Thanks, but woua! the price is not in my budget😞
@@pascalbourhis depends if you want molded or rubber tips. There are lots of good companies out there. Shure makes some good IEM for around $100-300 dollars.
9:21 - The manual is nearly worthless. It certainly doesn't explain ANY of the effect parameters. This is an 1.5 hr video... Is there any way to provide separately EQ'd outputs on the MX5 without using up the effects loop?
Well with this being a livestream I am freely talking about different monitoring options. The Global EQ settings applies to all the outputs on the MX5. The pedalboard is the only version that has separate EQ options for the XLR and 1/4 outputs.
Shame the guitar input is not on one side...
So can I connect it to katana mk2 100?
sure can
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios mono sound?
@@sunnesonne If you want stereo you will need two amps.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios but it should be ok to use katana instead of monitors for playing and practicing?
@@sunnesonne yes of course
