Nina Simone's rendition is considered the 'Gold Standard' for this song but Angelina just tweaks it in such a way that has a subtle difference to Nina's version, but just allows her to command the room with the way she allows this song to build slowly before her 'wow' finish.

I think her best vocal is her most recent from Valentine's Day, where she sang the classic jazz standard, My Funny Valentine. Both of them are amazing, particularly for a child, but the 16 yo version is simply the best of the many versions I've heard from legends of the past & present. It's a Masterclass in vocal nuance & control.
Great reaction! Glad you commented on the way she says "dawn"! It's one of my favorite parts of her singing this. I'm a Georgia-born Southerner, and though she's from Oslo, Norway, she sounds so "Southern country girl" the way she pronounces it! Also the way she does the little "eye tease" with the camera is so cute, yet professionally astute! Lol! She's amazing!

This is one of her best performances as a child. Everything about it is gorgeous; the arrangement, the band, her VOICE, and Angelina herself. A masterpiece. And that glance at the cameraman right in her face is special! Angelina's enunciation has always intrigued, and quite honestly, intoxicated since the beginning. I can't figure out how someone who doesn't really pronounce her words clearly yet conveys the emotional content of lyrics so beautifully. You've got a fun ride ahead of you, if you continue on this remarkable journey. I like how you caught the little moments here and there, in both of your AJ reactions so far. That moment when she looked into the camera and smiled is actually the one thing I could criticize her for in this performance. (!?) I mean, not that look itself, but the fact that it came after she looked _away_ from the camera briefly. She catches the camera, then looks down, and then looks up at the camera again. If she had not looked down, the visual aspect of the performance would have been just as perfect as the vocal aspect. (The blinding light at the beginning notwithstanding. [I actually don't mind that as much some other people… but we're getting off-track, here.]) I suspect that the reason she looked down was not out of shyness or nerves, or anything (I mean, I pretty much _know_ it wasn't those things), but instead had to do with the fact that the cameraperson was moving between her and the monitor in front of her. To me, it looks like she was concerned that he/she might run into the monitor, and that's why she looked down. Then, when they successfully got past the monitor, she looked up and smiled, as much at him/her as at "us", the viewing audience. Hey, it's possible… 🙂 There's another performance of hers where a small glance is very significant, IMO (this time in a good way): in her finale on _Norway's Got Talent_ [Norske Talenter], right in the middle of Gershwin's "Summertime", she glances a little to her right and smiles, apparently at someone in the audience (not at the trumpet player, whom she also looks at a few times during the performance). That little moment just _kills_ me: she's singing live on a nationwide (maybe more than one nation) TV broadcast, trying to win a talent competition that she's wanted to participate in for _years_ , and she takes the time between lines to look at someone in the audience (possibly a family member) and _smile_ at them! Amazing! Talk about "being present"…!
The camera is not so obvious to the performer. The distance is considerable and you have blinding lights in your face.. Yes her short smile during Summertime in NGT is lovely!

I'd say she was almost as close to the floor monitor as the trombonist was to the trumpet player - between whom there was only the saxophonist. (And BTW, I think it's pretty clear that the shot was made by a person walking with a steadicam rather than by the camera suspended from above, which provided the opening shot, for example. You can actually see such a cameraperson in the wide shot when she sings "Freedom is mine", near the end of the song.)

It's hard to tell what he has with him (let's just say it's a "he" for convenience), but it could be a modestly sized video camera. Finally, at 2:29-2:35, you can clearly see a cameraperson on the right side of the shot, standing and then crouching down on the floor (not stage) as the shot zooms in (and he exits the frame), and another cameraperson standing just offstage on the left side, who then puts his foot up on the stage to steady himself (again, gender…). This could be the cameraperson who did the magic tracking shot. The camera on the right is pretty clearly connected to a cable, but I can't tell whether the camera on the left is. I assume so. (BTW, by "steadicam" I didn't mean the trademarked technology, necessarily, but the camera on the left doesn't seem to move a lot when the person "hops" to get their leg into a better posititon at one point, so they do appear to have a "steadying" mechanism of some sort.)

Then to truly appreciate how much her talent has grown I recommend you review her Bohemian Rhapsody performance at age 13 on AGT next. After that YOU MUST!!!! DO Angelina's 1st original release "Million Miles" from Republic Records where she got signed at age 14. Not only did she wright this song at 14 years old, but it was in memory of her Grandfather who had just died. it will just melt your heart. Also her latest release is called 7th Heaven, which she also wrote, and it's very jazzy which shows she's sticking to her roots and developing her own style. I believe we must support this talented girls present and budding career and promote not only what she's done but to promote and introduce her original work as well. She is the definition of an ARTIST!
She might treat us with an updated performance soon, with her current voice twice as broad and powerful. She teased us acapella on tiktok. There's often a follow-up by a professionally recorded performance.

Sorry to say Chris, didn't enjoy your two reaction's to Angelina? Among other affections, you express yourself with childish noise's and comments that have no reason to be screamed over the music.
