Ferrari 550 Maranello GT1 - 2003 would be a treat to see out there. That and the DBR9 are two of the best looking front engine GT1 cars from the Mid 2000s. Especially the all red #88 and #66.
As a car lover and car videogame enthusiast, it is amazing to see these (in game) so-regarded top dog cars ACTUALLY being pushed. They were so rare in-game and there was so little footage of them in the last two decades that they seemed like they were just a myth, or prototype. Lucky drivers and amazing footage. Thank you to all the people who make events like these, and the broadcast of them, possible!
The F40 was past the end of its lifespan and still managed a few wins against the new F1 GTRs. The F40 LM & F40 GTE's were basically the "F40 GT1" in all but name. The real reason we didn't see an "F40 GT1" was that the F50 was already the flagship car by 96 and the Dallara F50 GT1 was under development. The F50 GT1 would've easily been competitive with the F1 GTR but Ferrari wisely pulled the plug & shifted funding to F1 when the FIA killed the series by allowing the 911 GT1 to fly when it should've been banned.
Would've preferred if ferrari actually built more than 3 f50 gts and raced that and ditched the f40 . The v12s of the mclaren f1 and ferrari f50 gt together would've been amazing
So impressive! They're 25 to 35 years old, and didn't age at all aesthetically spoken! And the different sounds! Many thanks to the owners, we still can savour these cars!

I go back to watch the clip on UA-cam of the F50 GT hammering around Mount Fuji Speedway over n over. Im not from Norfolk but I took my Elise there for some new seats and thoroughly enjoyed a factory tour and seeing some 'interesting' developmental cars being thrown around the track whilst we waited

The 911/996 was 'hated' by the so called purist for its head-lights ,they stupidly called them 'fried eggs' ,but I think they look fantastic ,especially on the GT1...
I think most purists hated the 996 because of the fact it had a water cooled flat 6, the first to depart from the iconic air cooled unit. Although the looks certainly didn’t help it’s case
@@name-oc2df Agreed..big mistake by Porsche to change the dashboard design (they're back to it today)..but mechanically these first water cooled engines were bullet-proof and the base for today's best N/A engines ..like the GT3 RS..they had to start somewhere..,I own a 2003 996/C2 bought with 194.00 KM ,fitted with Turbo wheels ,a normal oil & filter maintenance every 5000 km, has over 200k mark now and this car has never had a glitch...not even a light bulb ,Porsche went over the top for the 'hidden' important things like the chassis & a high tech engine (variocam + PSM....for the the interior ,expensive options were the solution for people who wanted great seats & top materials..

I love how easy oil changes are, even if it is a lot of oil. only real complaints are the cost of a clutch job the pedal position makes heel toe a bit annoying on the street, and those are hardly complaints. also had to upgrade the breaks and break fluid for the track.
my favorite livery/car combo of all time. the "oil splash" design itself isn't at all complex and it's quite minimal in coverage, but just seems to really work with the exaggerated shaping of the bodywork. LOVE IT!!!
Glad to see Nick Mason's F1 GTR back to its former glory after that nasty wreck. Though I'm not a fan of the livery, it's now such an iconic machine and I'm glad that the Mason family still rings it by it's neck every year regardless of the skyrocketin values of these cars.

I was born in 91 so star of the show for me is the 26 Porsche GT1 this car has a very special history in 98 flipped over at road Atlanta it was nearly destroyed but Porsche managed to rebuild it and went on to win La mans in 98 Also I love Nick Masons GTR it’s Chassis number 10 of the racing cars but it’s the first to be converted from Race to Road Which McLaren only did 10 of them so it’s a very special car

I’ve got a piece of a front splitter of a Porsche 911 GT1 in my garage. Off a GT1 racing at Croft many years ago.
