For the Def slot it's content specific. Let me give you an example. If your fighting a earth boss you might want to put viper or anything that gives earth resistance. For general usage you can run simple DMG resistance. And if you have iris change of pace. He can low-key heal your team with the stats up, cause him being able to cut the equips CT by half is insane. So it depends on what you are trying to do. Since you're new use what you have till you can target what's troubling you. Hope this helps!

Things like "True izanagi" and "True Exceed Zechs" are amazing options. Even the free version aswell. Anything to boost his arts gauge and lower his equipment CT. For nuking look for resistance downs and damage boost with big modifiers. Like 10,000% DMG+ hope this helps!
