Super awesome video. Thanks for the explanation. Having a hard time with lead changes teaching my three year old. I'm a DIY amateur and having a hard time eliminating the trot step in a lead change. I have a lot more to work on thanks to this video!
Why is his head down so much? Is a counter canter when you’re doing the walk on the line but at a canter? I’m trying to learn lead changes. Also this horse is beautiful!!
4:45 Concerning lead changes: 'In the beginning, speed will be your friend' That's funny you say that. I came to this video specifically with one question in mind: Is it possible/what does it look like to do a lead change while the horse is walking. I haven't seen anything about this anywhere on the internet, and I'm beginning to think it is not possible.
This horse is so often nearly kissing his chest, behind his perpendicular….it doesn't look healthy and all his natural beauty is just pulled down. I know in western riding this is something wanted and considered to be nice and also in english riding they do that but in my eyes it is just a kind of sad expression and not natural.

A counter canter is cantering on the “wrong” lead🙂 it’s very useful for training!
