I definitely think you're right. But then, it is funny to think that they are essentially some of the best pretenders in the world, so we may never know.
00AssassinOfkings000 I love Amy Adams and I'm truly sad for her repeated Oscar rejection (6 times already). No nomination this year as well. =_= Oh well, I will root for Julianne Moore instead. Amy will definitely get it in the near future.
Except for the interviews ran by Stephen Galloway. There's multiple times where his interruptions are jarring I can't stand it. other than that, they're great
Julianne Moore is one of the greatest actresses of our generation. She is also a personal favorite of mine. If any one actress deserves an oscar after years of being robbed and looked over it is Ms Moore.
Amy Adams was amazing in American Hustle. Julianne Moore gave a brilliant performance that made me cry in Still Alice, she was long overdue for an Oscar, but I'm glad she finally won. it took her one less Nominations then it took Decaprio
Hahaha, well this is my side hustle not my main job but I can actually watch these in the office too. I'm an artist, I do comic books, posters, news letters, lots of visual media. I think I was working on a storyboard on this particular day.
They all had such intelligent and engaging feedback/comments. And the love and support of one another wad lovely to see. This was a great round table. People can hate all they want but this was a very interesting video.
Felicity Jones kept looking as though she wanted to say something but either held back or was spoken over before she could get her bit in, which is upsetting because I'm sure she has so much insight to share being a young actress, but her quietness is totally understandable -- she's around very veteran, experienced actresses, so along with intimidation, I'm sure her focus was on taking in what they had to say. I can only hope she's on a future round-table having succeeded with another smashing role, and with a bit more conversation to provide. Also, Patricia Arquette was bringing it, she was being downright real -- loved her commentary. This was a very lovely round-table, but yes, I like everyone else hope to see more diversity, and more PoC from films when it comes to leading roles -- there are so many voices to be heard, and so many different perspectives from so many different people and cultures and I would love to see that at a round-table very soon. Here's to next year!
I'm a black filmmaker who hopes to work in the industry one day, and I don't think there's anything wrong with having an all white roundtable. I say that because people act like this is done on purpose, but the truth is all of these actresses are on the oscar radar for their performances this year. I haven't seen all the movie but I've seen Boyhood and I think she should be nominated for her work. So why would you replace her with a black actress just for the sake of having a black actress on the roundtable. That would be racist. Also look at last years roundtable, they had Oprah, Lupita Nyongo, and Octavia Spencer. But because they all had great performances.
IA. Hollywood does have a diversity problem (and a gender problem) - more so when it comes to LEAD actors and people at the top (producers/directors) rather than just actors in general - but pointing to this one table and collection of actors to prove racism in Hollywood is misguided. Black Americans are only 13/14% of the population, so there's not going to be a black actress nominated every year. I do think the lack of quality material centered around or given to black female actresses this year, though, can be partially attributed to an intersection of racism/sexism.
Thank you for your comment. As an older black woman, I find these red herring grievances to just dilute the real social issues that need to be addressed. This was a panel of 7 actresses for one particular year of filmmaking. Last year the panel was 50% black. This constant whine and refrain really detracts from valuable issues these actresses were discussing.
yes you are right boyhood she is excellent felocity excellent julianne excellent dern always good i loved them all want thinking shit they all white girls i was not thinking that or came to my mind just as i can go off and say viola davis best freking actress ever made i could be mad cause she dont get the everything she deserves but she knows she is good and we know she is so its all good viola davis to me is amazing but maybe someone dont think so and i dont love her and her acting cause she happens to be not white
Patricia Arquette, wow! Never thought much of her, but she's amazing in this. I really really liked her. Laura Dern has always struck me as a very nice person and this roundtable just reinforces my suspects ;)
Go Felicity Jones! If I was her i would be petrified to be at a table with such legendary actresses I really admire the way she contributed to the conversation.
I love Julianne Moore...she is the best!! Beautiful, talented, polite, kind, nice, bright and smart, elegant, gorgeous, very civilize, pretty, beautiful, sweet and many more ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This interviewer is a ton better than the interrupting one. The conversation flows and no one gets abruptly interrupted like with the roundtable of directors or of the male actors. People actually get to share their love and admiration for one another here.
I love this round table so much, because it's all strong, yet gentle and vulnerable women, who build each other up and genuinely support one another. It's beautiful to see.
They were all so sweet and gentle with each other. Love the end where they all in unison say, "thank you," in reply. That was great. You get a supportive/ed feeling afterwards.
I love the woman who starts talking shortly after 39:06 about the photographer who was following her & her daughter and she said, "This is a teachable moment for my daughter. If a man is following you, and you ask him to stop and he doesn't," [you should tell him to fuck off in a loud voice (my paraphrase)]. ITA.
"Keep your eyes on your own paper." Wow, that was the best way to end the round table discussion. My interpretation from that was you don't compare your life or successes to others, you run your own race. It's your journey and it's your life...do your thing. I'm seriously going to take that to heart for the rest of my life. I loved this! No interruptions and these women really respected each other.
I was surprised they didn't get her for one of these roundtables back in 2012. She had 9 movie releases that year and was nominated for best actress (oscar & golden globe).
+Mateus Murozaki I agree. I would have rather had Jessica Chastain on than Felicity Jones. Jessica Chastain is young, so a younger actress would be represented in this talk, and she has had much more experience than Felicity Jones has had.
I LOVE these actress round-tables, not only because they're so interesting, but that you've revealed and validated how supportive they are of each other, which the gutter media don't seem to want to divulge i.e. there's no jealousy or infighting amongst actresses; the gutter press are so sexist and disgusting, it makes me cringe.
I can't believe everyone is talking about racism in the comment section. These women told phenomenal stories, and portrayed profound characters. This panel was just so lovely and insightful. Every year THR picks actresses whose films generated oscar buzz. We do not know who they invited prior, and I would rather see actresses who are there based on their performances, not to fill a quota.
Jk11zo you are so right daff it was lovely almost delicious you seen them i dont know normal or like us loved it was they white i dont remember was just listening to grown ass smart women
Agreed. It makes me laugh that people are complaining about lack of diversity at a roundtable. You're pointing in the wrong direction; Hollywood is the one who is making the casting decisions. How can POC actors participate in a roundtable if they don't have an Oscar-worthy role?
***** we don't know who got invited we only know who showed up. For all you know they invited the actress from selma but she couldn't make it. Calm down!
They're all wonderful rolemodels. I like how Hilary Swank said the thing about people not showing their colours all in one go. Everybody's different with a different story so it's good to see that not everybody makes a snap judgement of a person off of face value.
I watch these roundtables every year and I can say without a doubt, this is the best set you've guys have had yet. An actual round table with lots of space, yet still intimate
i don't know why it's only clicking for me just now that felicity jones from theory of everything is the actress in rogue 1!!! that just makes me even more excited. i always enjoy the discussions and candidness of actress roundtables, but hoping for more diversity in the future :)
These women touched upon so many important questions of our lives, I wish we had more of these kinds of conversations in everyday life. Reflective, constructive, and based upon a set of very good values. You can really tell how grown each one of them is and how brilliant their world view is. This makes me realize I should really get rid of some friends with poor value systems and low emotional intelligence who judge a lot and unfairly and treasure friends with emotional maturity like this
I love getting the chance to listen to amazing actors and actresses share their insights. Patricia has always been an awesome person with great insights into life, and am always excited to hear what she has to say. The only thing about these shows is the Male interviewers rarely seem to really listen to their guests. They have a set of questions and they stick to the formula even if the conversation is heading in a completely different direction. It’s greatest when one of the other guests asks are question, which is usually really interesting and insightful. I have been in a UA-cam spiral watching these all day. :)
These are some of our best actresses, and the best parts of the is are when they talk about ACTING. Not bad, but I'd like to hear more about that, and less about sensationalism and fame in the future, The Hollywood Reporter .
I want all the disciplines to sit represented at one Roundtable together so that the TV and film and theatre people can all argue what's wrong with each other's industry!
they are focused on oscars or award categories. ie best actress, best actor etc. the director ones are not single gender but there aren't many female directors T_T
Thankfully and finally conversation with these amazing women: witty, intelligent and resourceful actresses! This is the side we want to see from them. I'm sure they are grateful, as am I, for this opportunity to share insightful experiences. Someone (THR) got it right!
It's fucking ridiculous how some people are commenting that this roundtable is racist. Shut the fuck up seriously just because there is no black actress it's not because they are racists. If a black actress didn't delivered a great performance to be there should they just put there just because it's what sounds correct to do? These actresses were invited here because of the movies that are featured here not because it's some conspiracy of racism. People are so hateful these days and literally criticize everything without knowing anything they just try to make a statement.
I know, is not the reporters fault, there just aren’t that many great roles out there for people of color. Whenever there are, they always invite them to the roundtables, for example last year there were many people of color in all of the roundtables, because they were great Oscar contenders.
Critiquing the severe lack of diversity and available work for women of color in Hollywood is not hate in any way, shape, or form. It'd be one thing if people were putting these women down, but I don't see that. If anything, it's an accurate commentary on the fact that the collective movie making industry as a whole needs to do better. Asking for better opportunities and more representation is not hateful, not even in the slightest.
Rebecca K. This women are here because of the films they did which are up for oscar nominations and they didn't had any woman of color because there was no specific performance they could have have added for this specific roundtable. Besides there are great roles for people of color on films there are many. Last oscar ceremony many Steve McQueen won an oscar as well as Lupita Nyongo. There are roundtables with actors and directors of different races but not for this specific one. If someone didn't gave an interesting performance it wasn't because of the race it was because of the actor, character, script, direction whatever many things could go wrong but not because of race.
Enrique Godinez Did you not read my entire comment or... Also, last year was a standout rarity. Women of color in film are constantly talking about the lack of roles. Really, google it, it's not some made up issue. Asking for better is in no way "hate."
Julianne Moore and Patricia Arquette great, amazing in this round table. Thank you for invited them. I hope we could see Rosemund Pike soon after her baby.
Rosamund Pike is not invited ?? She deserved to be in this table more than any of these actresses , she will win the Oscar too ! That kind of performance is rarely seen by any kind of actress!
All these women are universal super stars, and not in the sense of being famous, but in the sense of being eternal and ever shining. It's amazing to live in this age with these fantastic human beings.
Why you people just can't recognize, that this was genuinely very interesting conversation among 7 very interesting women? I enjoyed it immensely just for what it is and I bet lot of you did as well.
Aaw, Laura Dern's reaction to Hilary Swank's comment of "All roads lead back to Laura Dern" was so sweet, Laura shuffled and seemingly melted in her seat. ☺️
"All roads lead back to Laura Dern."

Has there even been a more prophetic or truer statement ever spoken?

Oh Hillary Swank
Please give me a spank
you can tell all these actresses respect each other
+Krishtie Mofazzal That's because the camera's rolling ;)
+Will Scarlett Hahahaha
+Will Scarlett Lol, probably true.
No, it''s because they clearly respect each other.
I definitely think you're right. But then, it is funny to think that they are essentially some of the best pretenders in the world, so we may never know.
Still waiting for the day Amy Adams wins her first Oscar. Big fan here.
Sean Ooi Oscar snubbed her
Same
YES ME TOO!! Brilliant actress!!
From day one when she played the fat chick on Smallville I knew she deserved an Oscar.
She doesn't need an Oscar. She's one of the best actresses of her generation. Oscars don't mean anything.
Amy Adams is so beautiful it hurts.
Agree to the power of 10,000
IK!!! It makes me violent 😂😂
Why are ppl hating on Amy Adams?.....oh wait it's cause she is more talented and successful than any of you could ever be
Seriously, what did she do to make these people so angry?
Vlad Tepes she's gorgeous and succsessful. what else?
Geez she's just TOO good every year!!! How dare she!!!
Plus she is like so sweet, how could you even hate her?
00AssassinOfkings000 I love Amy Adams and I'm truly sad for her repeated Oscar rejection (6 times already). No nomination this year as well. =_=
Oh well, I will root for Julianne Moore instead. Amy will definitely get it in the near future.
God fucking dammit, now I'm going to binge on these roundtables.
Except for the interviews ran by Stephen Galloway. There's multiple times where his interruptions are jarring I can't stand it. other than that, they're great
SAME! I'm glad I found these on my "You might like" list.
If they posted the full Actors Roundtable with Jeff Daniels, let us know.
Vvvv
Lol I have same problem.
I now want Laura Dern to be in all round tables. She sounds like an awesome person.
Yes
Holy cow Julianne Moore's resting/listening face is so emotive/expressive!
Very smart Julianne❤️
ACTING - Wayne Gretzky - Michael Scott
Why can't Hilary Swank be my therapist? She seems so kind, sensitive, eloquent, and thoughtful.
+Matt Clark Because she would be none of those listed traits if she had to listen to rattle off your life problems on the regular ;)
She's brilliant
She'd be a great wood-chopper too.
Julianne Moore is one of the greatest actresses of our generation. She is also a personal favorite of mine. If any one actress deserves an oscar after years of being robbed and looked over it is Ms Moore.
She is such a terrific actress and always comes across in interviews as incredibly sweet and kind and genuine. Love her
Patricia Arquette had the most brilliant response to the leaked nudes scandal. Bravo.
Yes haven’t heard it articulated that well before.
What did she said?

Im really glad Felicity was able to add some input throughout.
I kind of wish she'd talked a bit more since she's my favourite
I love that Reese saw Whiplash. Absolutely INCREDIBLE film
They all had such intelligent and engaging feedback/comments. And the love and support of one another wad lovely to see. This was a great round table. People can hate all they want but this was a very interesting video.
I agree! This is one of my favorite roundtable episodes.
wooow julianne moore gets more beautiful with age

Yes I think so But Laura is way or even more hoter 🥵 just wow 🤩 😯 Julianne is beautiful to through .
I could listen to Julianne Moore talk the whole week.
patricia went full badass at 39:40

Couldn't you guys get Jessica Chastain for one of her 20 movies coming out this year?
they had her on the interstellar roundtable already
Lea Gebbie yeh and chris nolan did two round tables. So jessica should be there for her second time as well

Hilary Swank in Boys don't cry is an Oscar standard... that performance was maybe the best I have seen!

Reese and Patricia worked together 30 years ago. So awesome to see how far they’ve both come.
So no Molly Hawkey?
I watch these roundtables every year and I can say without a doubt, this is the best set you've guys have had yet. An actual round table with lots of space, yet still intimate
Reese Witherspoon is as gorgeous as ever

its so interesting seeing the differences in the conversations between the all male round tables vs all female.
love these roundtables every year, they get me so excited for awards season!
Wish Julianne Moore spoke more in this! :)
why was the focus of this round table more on celebrity and less about their craft?! Please ask meaningful questions about the ACTING! not celebrity!!
I love Patricia Arquette :) I hope she wins. But Meryl Streep's on the way so whoever wins supporting actress, I'm fine. :D
Felicity Jones is too cute
Laura Dern seems like the nicest person in Hollywood!

Did you not read my entire comment or...
The best roundtable! Such cool people!
Rosamund Pike is not invited ?? She deserved to be in this table more than any of these actresses , she will win the Oscar too ! That kind of performance is rarely seen by any kind of actress!
Felicity jones is an amazing actress she has a fantastic future ahead of her
All these women are universal super stars, and not in the sense of being famous, but in the sense of being eternal and ever shining. It's amazing to live in this age with these fantastic human beings.
They are truly Gandhi reincarnated.
I'm here for Felicity Jones and Amy Adams. Two of my favorite actresses today.
That is all.
Amazing women - confident yet humble, dedicated to their craft. And amazing actresses.
Why you people just can't recognize, that this was genuinely very interesting conversation among 7 very interesting women? I enjoyed it immensely just for what it is and I bet lot of you did as well.
Out of all Round Tables I have watched, this group is the most fun.
Who's here after the parody video of Reese Witherspoon? :D
Aaw, Laura Dern's reaction to Hilary Swank's comment of "All roads lead back to Laura Dern" was so sweet, Laura shuffled and seemingly melted in her seat. ☺️
Yeah that was sweet.
