@Christopher Brennan i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
32:20 you are incorrect. Having served and used the respirator '58 pattern. In the film it shows the small flap pouch on the left side, also when it shows it open it has 2 velcro patches with a central press stud. The straps fasten on the rear of the pouch not the sides.
I've seen evidence that Ripley used the Haversack S6 (or S10?) respirator bag at the end. However Dietrich's and Frosts bag clearly did have side mounted strapping and no pouch. In the set/continuity photos you get a much more clear look at their gear. Check it out forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15230&p=233421#p233421 You can find similar continuity photos of Frost and the same side mounted straps and lack of an extra pouch visible there.
Great vid! Aree there any good alternatives for the steadicam rig? Getting an original is obviously out of the question but there are modern rigs for sale that arent too expensive and work the same way and look pretty much the same.
I don't have a specific brand/model#s to recommend, but my main advice is be mindful of the weight limits on any vest/arm/rig. Metal builds vs. resin smartguns (like HCG's or Matsuo) have a huge weight difference and you don't want to be caught with a "cheap" arm that can't carry the weight. You also don't want a overly strong arm that keeps you fighting to push the smartgun down. Function is more important than looks in this case because these things are cumbersome! The main thing is get your smartgun first then chose an appropriate vest/arm for that weight. If you have a good chest plate, a good smartgun, and you can move about comfortably then no one is going to even notice your arm/rig.
Re: Belt Tool/Smart Gun Battery: I wonder if that is an allegory to the Infantry Squad practice of everybody carrying a 100rd 7.62 NATO linked ammo bandoleer box for the Squad Pig (or GPMG Gimpy) M60/M240/L6/C7? The Squad helps bear the load for the M53 Smart Gunners hauling the steadi-cam support arm, breast plate and weapon system?
Is it possible that they used a Parker Brothers Survival/Boot Knife as the Gerber Clone as well? Those have the exact same handle and sheath as the Explorer MM IV. Thanks!
Actually some time after I posted this video, Hudson's screen used knife was found and auctioned at the Prop-Store of London. The screen used knife was indeed revealed to be an MM-IV. As a stand-in or replica, the Parkers are excellent choices as they are structurally the same, just a shiny blade instead of dark oxide like the screen used/MMiv.
I don't remember if the Technical Manual tried to explain the yellow cap grenades. The movie never gave them a unique purpose, but Weirzbowski had a yellow cap grenade in his straps and I always liked it. I hope to find a few blue ones someday as well (like Frost and Ski had) but I haven't found a source yet. I do believe the S-5/8 caps are a good match.
@@bigbisontprops6860 thanks for taking the time to reply mocap sell the yellow an blue am about to order have spent alot of my spare time fully moding a snow wolf making it more pleasing to the eye now it is done luv it would like a full metal version but maybe someday
That is a full on metal build I did several years ago. It has milled out HCG Aluminum shrouds, real SPAS parts, APS shell cycling 870 airsoft, all metal airsoft thompson and home made steel stock and barrel vents. I plan to do a full disassembly and video about how it all goes together later. In the meantime, for more details see the original build thread with photos here forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15035&hilit=hero+build+aps
I swiped the yellow guy off an "oxygen/ acetylene" port-a-torch kit. The "MC" size acetylene tank caps have the same diameter as the SD studio grenades. The length had to be trimmed down, but overall it was a great and lucky find. Try swinging by a welding shop and see if they have any? Unfortunately the most common color on those caps are red.
Would the l85A1 - SA80 be welcomed say at dragon con for the colony sweep ? I did a full marine at 2007 dragon con and had a blast ! Now I am putting together a drop ship pilot and plan to use the L85A1 as a primary weapon for this years dragon con
Funny story about that (and to be clear, I wasn't there it is just one of the legendary tales). So the UKCM guys (the Brits) were at a convention several years ago where Trevor Steadman (Wierzbowski) was in attendance and someone tried to give one of their members a hard time about not having a pulse rifle. The troll said something along the lines of "well that isnt very screen accurate, is it?" and gestured to the SA80. Trevor himself had overhead and replied "there is an entire rack of them on screen if you ever actually watched the film". Suffice it to say, the SA80 is a perfectly acceptable prop weapon for conventions and sweeps! I dare say a certain amount of street cred for knowing your history will come with carrying one.
@@bigbisontprops6860 is there a specific model ? Specifics on accessories ? Are there any production photos ? I went thru the 2 disc dvd set last nite and couldn’t See any - any help is appreciated
@@randallace It was the L85A1 with a "susat" optics. A lot of current airsoft replicas have "ACOG" optics. In a way it doesn't matter because the optics/sites were never seen on screen, but based on the production phots the 'susat' optic is correct. Here is a thread about it forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15688&hilit=suset
Right now, to be honest I am not sure there is a truly 'perfect' pulse rifle supplier. The main thing you need to decide is what you want from your rifle in features and materials. Spat from spatcave.com is still doing resin casts (but they are solid with no moving parts). There is a guy in europe selling casts of the 'stunt' rifles (as seen in another of my videos) made from fiberglass, but they can be a bit rough requiring a LOT of finishing work, also have no moving parts, and are not the 'ideal' look. There is an airsoft version made by evike/snow wolf that has some metal parts and a BB firing functionality but has numerous accuracy shortcomings and cheap plastic other parts. HCG makes a licensed version that is more expensive than all of the above and also has no moving parts (not to be confused with their metal parts release 10 years ago that are long sold out), but they require no effort/skills to make it look good and accurate. There are a few people making quality 3-D printed rifles but that landscape seems to be changing month to month. Whatever you do, don't buy a 3D printed one that looks like the airsoft one (worst of both worlds in my opinion there with limited accuracy and features). The nicest you might buy is to find an old HCG release with the metal shrouds or commission Matsuo to build you one (although he is not cheap and his waitlist is something like 3 years at this point). So yeah, sorry there is no easy answer to that question at the moment. Good luck in your search!
Do you mean the range-finder Bag? Or the Fero D NVG Goggles? The bag was a custom made by "Noble". He is not making them anymore so you just have to find one on ebay or the forums. The Goggles appear on ebay sometimes, but the "functional" working ones can cost several thousand dollars. Mine is just the shell that I will fill with binocular parts some day. I got my shell on ebay.

That damn face hugger totally ruined this video. Now I'm creeped out for the rest of the night, and it is going to be a two-Ambien night. Thanks a lot.
5:44 If you’re going to say the airsoft ones have discrepancies, it would probably help to ELABORATE what those discrepancies are. Because most people will look at them and say they’re good. I need autistic levels of detail to understand what makes them bad.
Fair enough request and I will make extra sure to address those specifics on a video dedicated only to pulse rifles (which I plan to do very soon). I feel like this one was already too long at 45 mins, so getting too deep into the weeds wasn't the goal here. I think you'll be pleased with the next one.
I don't think they had an official name as several different companies produced them with minor variations. The most common key words I used to use were "80s/vintage" "multifunction" "torch/light/flashlight". You can include specifics like "4-function/5-function/7-function". Brands include Brinkmann, Signal, T-Lite, GE, and Uniross (that I know of). Really is a bit of crapshoot sometimes
